Service Cats: How Do We Respond To The 911 Operator

MeOW Welcome to Service Cats and Everything Feline on Furidays. We spent the last 3 weeks givin’ ya’ll a little background into how long it took fur us to learn some of the tasks we purrform fur mommy. We’ve covered lots of great topics and offured tons of Training Tips that are good fur not only kitties but woofies too. Keep those questions comin’. The followin’ post will be written in human English fur reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Trainin’ Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy A thru her many years of animal trainin’, cats in purrticular. And to offur insight into your questions about Everything Feline. Always remember, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

We’ve discussed our Training to call for help by using a land line telephone many times. In response to that we were asked,What do you do when a call is answered? Are you trained to meow a certain number of times? As we stated last week, part of our telephone training is learning to listen for the voice on the other end of the phone signaling that our call has been successfully made. Mommy says she’s been blessed with chatty kitties. Meaning, we love to chat it up…all the time. MOL

Anyways, before we answer this question, let’s take a look at how emergency calls are handled. And remember, It’s a Crime to call 911 if you don’t have an emergency. So, if you’re Training your anipal to call for help, be sure the phone has been disconnected, or better yet, use a pre-programmed number to a friend or family member that can imitate the response of an emergency operator. Or maybe you would rather have a friend or family member be your emergency call. With the ability to pre-program numbers into your land lines, it makes calling for help that much easier. There’s fewer buttons to Train your anipal to dial. It is our opinion that cell phones can’t be used by your anipal to call for help. So, if you need your Service Animal to perform this task, you must have a land line with basic service. We use Magic Jack at a cost of about $40.00 billed yearly for unlimited calling anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.

Dezi lays on the heated cat mat with the phone

Now, let’s take a look at that Emergency Service call. When a call comes in to an Emergency Services operator, they can see the number the call is made from and the name and  address associated with that number. That means they already know where they should send emergency personnel. Again, this is when using a land line. Altho’ most places have implemented GPS locators for cell phone users calling 911. Some telephone companies work in conjunction with Emergency Services to provide additional instructions displayed to the 911 operator when an Emergency call comes in from certain numbers. Years ago mommy filled out one such form that told the 911 operator to send an ambulance if they received a call from our number and either heard nothing or only meowing. You might check with your local phone company or Emergency Services to see what options may be available to you in your area.

So, what is it that we do when we call for help? First let me tell you that in all the time me’s been with mommy, we’ve thankfully not had any such emergencies. However, mommy makes sure to keep our Training current just in case. When mommy falls or passes out, we get quite worried and don’t like to leave her side. That being said, we’re Trained to make that emergency call and start meowing when we hear a voice on the other end. Altho’ it’s not uncommon for us to start meowing the minute mommy falls or passes out. Typically, we meow in the direction of the phone, run to mommy, back to the phone and then back to mommy again. We are Trained to repeat these steps a few times before finally settling in beside mommy until help arrives or she can get up and around. Me’s particular love of the phone means that me will often bring the phone with me to rest at mommy’s side. And, like Shad and sis Lexi before me, me has been known to make calls to other pre-programmed numbers from time to time. As me’s told you before, me does love the telephone. Mommy says me’s a typical teenage girly curious cat.

Raena learning to dial the phone.

As for Raena, she has this signature “hum” sound that she’s made from day one when she jumps up/down or starts to run. She tends to “hum” a couple of times before starting to meow. She’s not nearly as obsessed with the phone as me is. Mommy says that’s a good thing. At least we don’t fight over who’s going to make the call. The bottom line is that if you want to Train your anipal, you must have a land line phone. What they do after making the call is up to you. Any call made to Emergency Services must be investigated. So, even if your anipal doesn’t meow or bark, police will be sent out to the address on file.

Well, that’s a wrap for today. Always remember, Training is all about Repetition and Rewards. If you’d like to read the Training Tips on how to Train your anipal, click here. We also discussed options like the “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” buttons/boxes here. Remember to leave your questions and/or topic suggestions in the comments below or send us an email. Chatting Cats: Technology And Secrets

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Ya’ know, I’s a young kitteh so all this tech stuffs has been ‘round mine’s whole life. Catputers, cell fones, tablets and such are normal sights fur me. But mommy talks ‘bout a time when she didn’t have any of these things. I’s can’t ‘magine what life would’a been like without at least a catputer. But sure ‘nuff, mommy says there was a day when nopawdy had these necessities.

Dezi lays in wheelchair watching Raena in the new stroller

Raena, what are you meowin’ ‘bout now?

Fones and stuffs, sissy. You know that married at furst sight show we were gonna sign mommy up fur gave all those couples a challenge the other day to let their new spouses look thru their fones and all their messages and stuffs. Seems several of the men didn’t want their wives goin’ thru their fones. They claimed it was an invasion of purrivacy. And mommy said those girls oughtta run fur the hills. Mommy said that she ‘members when nopawdy had their own purrsonal fone to carry ‘round with ‘em, and any call or letter came to one address/home. Husbands and wives shared a fone, and didn’t make calls or send messages in secret, lessen they were doin’ somethin’ they ought not be doin’. So, it got me to thinkin’…

Raena stands on the Liberty Cat tree while Dezi looks back at her from the ledge

          Oh MeOW  You were thinkin’?

Sissy, that’s not nice. You better take that back or I’s gonna tell mommy. You won’t get any treats lessen you be nice. You know the rules, treats are fur good kitties.

Fine Raena, me’s sorry. What were you thinkin’?

 Raena lays in new powrchair

Fanky fank ya’ sissy. I’s was actually wonderin’ ifin any of our furiends felt the same way as mommy? We don’t have a daddy, but I’s sure ifin we did, mommy would wanna know who he might be callin’ or sendin’ messages too; ‘specially ifin he had his own purrsonal fone. And why is it okay to keep secrets t’ween married peeps? We don’t have any secrets here. Mommy tells us everythin’ and we meow to her everythin’ too.

Well Raena, me doesn’t think secrets are okay in any relationship. Then again, maybe that’s why we don’t have a daddy?. One of those men from the show told his new wife that the minute she went thru his fone, they were done. You heard mommy tell her to run. After all, what could be so “purrsonal” or “purrivate” that his wife couldn’t see it?

Dezi lays in wheelchair watching Raena inside the stroller

Yep sissy, when he said that, I’s fur sure wanted to know what was in there.

Me too Raena. Mommy says, ifin ya’ wanna make a girly suspicious, that’s the way to do it alright. Maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t get mommy signed up fur that show. Any man who comes into our lives aren’t gonna be able to have any secrets.

Raena bathes while laying on the floor

That’s fur sure sissy, we meow ‘bout everythin’.

Yep Raena, that we do. As fur that trust stuffs, it has to be earned. Even then, it should be okay fur husbands and wives to share everythin’, includin’ fones.

Dezi and Raena touch noses while laying on the heated cat mat

Psssst Raena, can you keep a secret?

I’s agree sissy. So, what ‘bout ya’ll? We wanna know what all of you think ‘bout this topic and keepin’ secrets t’ween married peeps.

And kids too, Raena. Do ya’ll think it’s an invasion of purrivacy fur your spouse to go thru your fone or fur pawrents to go thru their kids fones? Inquirin’ minds wanna know. MOL

Raena sits pretty on scratcher

Oh sissy, you’re too funny. Well, guess we oughtta wrap it up. All this meowin’ ‘bout trust and secrets has mine’s head spinnin’. Let’s go play.

Chatting Cats: Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey #ChewyInfluencer

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Furstly, I’s sure wanna fanky fank everypawdy fur their purrayers. Sis Dezi is feelin’ much better and availin’ herself of the pawtty box again. Mommy seems much happier ‘bout that too. I’s really gonna miss the slip slidey piddle pads all over the place. What fun!!! Mommy will purrobably be a lot happier ‘bout that too. Anyways…

Raena sits on cat mat while Dezi sits in front licking lips

RaenaBelle!!! We ain’t spendin’ a whole ‘nother posty meowin’ ‘bout me’s piddle issues. But, me really does ‘purreciate the purrayers. Now, we’ve got a review to write today.

Dezi watching Raena while they eat

Sure ‘nuff sissy. As most of ya’ know, we eat freeze dried noms on the regular. As anypawdy who has ever shopped freeze dried raw noms knows, it’s kind’a ‘spensive. ‘Course, mommy says ‘nuffin’ but the bestest fur her girls. We sure are Blest. Anyways, that bein’ said, we’re on a fixed income so mommy’s always lookin’ fur ways to save a few dollars while still purrvidin’ us with the bestest quality on the market. To do that, mommy mixes a couple of brands of freeze dried noms together. Mommy’s also always lookin’ fur new proteins fur us to try. While it might not be ideal fur us kitties to eat somethin’ different at every meal, it’s also not good fur us to eat only one food or protein. Ya’ never know when fur whatever reason (allergies, health problems, etc.), we might need to mix it up. So, we all got x’cited to see Stella and Chewy’s freeze dried cat food up fur review this month from Chewy.

This is a sponsored post. We received a 3.5 oz bag of food in exchange fur our honest opinion. Neither Chewy nor Stella & Chewy’s are responsible for the opinions expressed in this post unless otherwise stated. As always, we tell it like we see it and only bring products we use or have tried and believe would be of interest to you, our readers and friends.

Yep Raena, we sure were. Me used to eat it all the time, till we got a few bags that had way too much bone in them and mommy saw that they were usin’ that bad vitamin K. But wait, savvy customers like mommy and most of ya’ll alerted the peeps at Stella & Chewy’s and they removed the bad stuffs from their noms in Feruary 2017. Now that’s the kind’a respawnse we’d all like to see from pet food manufacturers, ain’t it?

Dezi and Raena sniff Stella & Chewy's freeze dried turkey food

Yep sissy, it sure is. Anyways, as most of ya’ know, we luvs us some rabbit. Unfurtunately, mommy says rabbit is one of the most ‘spensive proteins on the market; so she has to supplement our rabbit with other proteins. That mostly means chicken, but Stella & Chewy’s make other proteins too: Salmon & Chicken, Duck, Duck, Goose, Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey, Sea-licious Salmon and Cod and of course, Chicken and our fave, Rabbit. They also have lots of flavors fur the woofies. You might ‘member that we luvs us some fureshly baked turkey tom lurkey, so mommy thought she’d get us a bag of that Stella & Chewy’s Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey to try. Let’s see what Chewy says ‘bout it:

True enuff sissy. Let’s get to the taste testin’. That’s mine’s favorote pawrt. We like small bites, so mommy had to break the little nuggets in half and add some water. I’s not a fan of the Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey. I’s would much rather have a freshly cooked turkey tom lurkey. But, I’s do like that the company lissens to it’s customers, so fur that reason me will give it 2 paws up. What ‘bout you sissy?

Blest Sunday: Slip Sliding Away

MeOW  Leave me alone Raena. Me doesn’t feel good.

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

I’s just wanna help sissy. Do ya’ want me to write our Blest Sunday posty?

No Raena, Blest Sunday is me’s day. Me doubts you really wanna help. Me thinks you’re just nosy and wanna be in the middle of everythin’, all the time. Ifin you’re not the center of attention, you get all jealous.

Raena sits on cat mat while Dezi sits in front licking lips

That’s not true sissy. I’s luvs you. I’s just don’t unnerstand why you got so mad when mommy saw you peein’ on the floor and raced ya’ to the pawtty box room to the litter box. Why would ya’ wanna pee in the floor anyways?

It’s not like me really wants too Raena, but that nasty old pawtty box made me’s wee hurt.

Raena lays on cat mat while watching Dezi play with Yeowww nip nanner

Mommy says the pawtty box didn’t do it, sissy. She says it’s cuz you’re not drinkin’ enuff water. That’s why our meals have had extra au jus (juice/gravy) lately.

Me still thinks it’s the pawtty box’s fault Raena.

Well sissy, least mommy had some medicine left over from your sis Lexi. She said it was gonna make you feel all better. Well that and purrayers. What did the medicine taste like? Mommy wouldn’t give me any.

Trust me Raena, you don’t want any. It tastes yucky.

Really? Ifin it tasted so yucky why didn’t you fight with mommy ‘bout it?

Raena lays on cat mat while Dezi plays with nip nanner

Hmmmpht Haven’t you figgered out by now that mommy always wins? It’s just easier to take the medicine the furst time than to have mommy hold ya’ down and force it down your throat.

Yeah, I’s guess that’s true, sissy. At least we can have fun slidin’ ‘round on all the piddle pads mommy put down.

Me doesn’t think mommy’s too impurressed with your slidin’ games Raena. She nearly tripped over the bunched up pads in the pawtty box doorway last night.

Purrlease sissy, mommy luvs watchin’ us playin’ and havin’ fun.

 Dezi digs in toy box

Normally she does Raena, but me’s not so sure ‘bout all your slidin’. Me’s purretty sure “RaenaBelle, stop that” doesn’t mean she’s happy with what you’re doin’.

‘Course it does, sissy. Mommy says that all the time. Wait, where are ya’ goin’?

Dezi beside the toy box

Me has to go pawtty. And me’s sure mommy would get mad ifin me went on the carpet.

Ya’ better use the pawtty box sissy. I’s will ask all our furiends ifin they could spare a purrayer fur ya’. We are so Blest to have so many peeps that luvs us. Unfurnately, it’s stormin’ and cold here again, but I’s sure mommy will take you fur a stroll in our new stroller the next time mr. Sunshine comes back. That’ll fur sure make ya’ feel better. Right sissy? Sissy? Uh Oh, I’s see mommy comin’ down the hall with that syringe full of medicine.

Dezi looks out front of the new stroller while outside

Ain’t no point in runnin’ and tryin’ to hide Raena. Mommy knows all the hidin’ spots. Me fur sure ‘purreciates any purrayers me can get. Sick or not, stormy or not, we are so very Blest to have so much luv. And even tho’ me knows mommy doesn’t like it when me doesn’t use the pawtty box like me should, mommy still luvs me. We’re so Blest to have had some medicine in the house and a mommy who knows what to do. And, we’re so Blest to have our new stroller. We are indeed very Blest kitties. We’d like to remind everypawdy to take a minute today and every day to give Thanks fur the Blessings in your life. As long as you have luv in your life, you are Blest.
