Blest Sunday: Always Giving Thanks

C’mon Raena, we gotta get our Blest Sunday posty written befur the storms come back. We don’t wanna miss the oppurrtunity to give fanks fur all the blessings we’ve received.

Dezi looks out door from atop the Liberty cat tree while Raena sleeps on the ledge below her

Ifin you didn’t spend so much time UTB when it’s stormin’ sissy, we wouldn’t have to be in a hurry. ‘Sides, where’d these storms come from anyways? Mommy was just talkin’ to awnty Vonda, who was havin’ really bad storms, and sayin’ we were all clear?.

Dezi atop the Liberty cat tree

Leave it to the weather guessers to get it wrong Raena. The furcast might have said all clear, but the skies had another plan. Anyways, speakin’ of awnty Vonda, what did you think ‘bout the purse she got mommy fur her birthday?

Raena peeking out from under packing paper

I’s like it sissy, don’t you? And, did you see all that pawsum packin’ paper that came in it? What fun!!!

Yeah Raena, me can’t miss it. It’s all over the floor. You sure can be messy.

Messy?!! I’s just havin’ fun, sissy.

Dezi looks down from atop the liberty cat tree

Yeah, it does look kind’a fun Raena. Maybe me will join ya’ slidin’ ‘round the floor later.

Raena pees out from under the packing paper

That’d be great sissy, there’s purrlenty of paper fur both of us. Ya’ know, mommy was really happy her purse had gone on sale. She has a sayin’ that you shouldn’t spend more fur a bag than you have to put in it. Altho’ awnty Vonda had sent mommy some “anything/furivolous” money, she still didn’t wanna waste it.

Paw Print purse gift from Vonda

Mommy says Fank you awnty Vonda.

That’s true Raena. Mommy can hold onto a dollar and stretch it like it’s rubber. So, that sale was just what mommy needed. When awnty Vonda asked what mommy was gonna buy, she held off sayin’ till the purrice fell low enuff. And then, she got us some treats with the rest.

          Treats? Are we havin’ treats?

Dezi eats Primal rabbit, duck and chicken and salmon

No silly, it’s brekky time. You know we don’t get treats till after we eat all our brekky.

We better hurry then, cuz I’s want some treats. We sure are blest sissy.

We are indeed Raena. But befur we go, we wanna say a meowsy big Fank you to awnty Carol and awnty Kathleen fur donatin’ to mommy’s dental fundraiser. We’re so close to gettin’ mommy all taken care of. Ifin you can help with a donation, share and/or a purrayer, we sure would ‘purreciate it. You can give thru the fundraiser here, or donate directly to our paypal at: lexi.dezi@yahoo.com.

Raena sleeps with her angelic face, close up

Here’s mine’s sleepy selfie. Mommy says i’s have an angelic face.

Pardon the blur, mommy was usin’ the telescopin’ lens.

I’s so happy and x’cited fur mommy, sissy. Ya’ know, she’s had teefy purroblems since I’s came here. I’s bet she’s gonna be a whole new purrson when her mouth’s no longer in pain. And, I’s can’t wait fur tomorrow when we go to get impressions made fur mommy’s new teefies. She calls ‘em dentures and says once she’s healed she’ll be good as new with her fake teeth.

Dezi and Raena eating Primal rabbit, duck and chicken and salmon freeze dried food

Me’s happy too Raena. Ya’ know, she’s had teefy purroblems since long befur you came here. She survived 3 rounds of cancer, several severe car accidents, and a couple really bad ‘bouts of pneumonia. Mommy says she had actually resigned herself to the fact that her teefies would be the thing that killed her. Fur years she’s been battlin’ infections and constant breaks. Me’s just glad she’s furinally gettin’ to feel better. And, that she’s gonna stay ’round fur a while.

Here’s me’s profile selfie.

And on that happy note sissy, let’s wrap this up and see ‘bout gettin’ some of those treats you meowed ‘bout earlier. As always we wanna remind everypawdy to give thanks today and every day fur the many blessings in your lives. And, we’re linkin’ up with the Kitties Blue fur Sunday Selfies.

Prepping The Dance Floor #ChewyInfluencer

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. It’s furinally the weekend!!! What does a kitty care ‘bout the weekend you ask? We really don’t, but all humans seem a little happier come Furiday. And, that makes us kitties happier too. We know that mommy’s a lot happier on Furidays’. I’s think it has somethin’ to do with the office bein’ closed, so we won’t be bothered fur the next 3 days.

Dezi sits on scratcher and looks back at Raena laying on the nip mat

You’re right ‘bout all of that Raena, but it really has nuffin’ to do with our posty today.

Maybe not sissy, but, shouldn’t we acknowledge that peeps be happy and wish ‘em a happy weekend?

 Chewy Logo

(Dezi shakes head) Whatever Raena. Anyways, as pawrt of the Chewy bloggin’ furmily we get to try out and review great purroducts every month. This month was no different. As most of ya’ know, we use a natural litter in our pawdee boxes. Mommy likes natural cuz ifin it happens to get stuck to our furs and ultimately ends up in our tummies, it’ll move right on thru us and not become a clump in our intestines. And, most natural litters are flushable. Altho’ as most of ya’ may ‘member, we got one of those litter genie’s fur Raena’s birthday that we now use. And, maybe the most purrtant reason, or at least the second most purrtant, they contain no purrfumes. You know us kitties have the most sensitive sniffers ‘round.

This is a sponsored post. We received the Okocat Cat Litter in exchange for our honest opinion. As always, we tell it like we see it and only bring products we use or have tried and feel would be of interest to you, our readers and friends.

Dezi lays on scratcher while Raena lays on nip mat

Those are great reasons sissy. Mommy’s always lookin’ out fur us, ain’t she?. Anyways, fur many years, these natural litters have been made of corn, paper or wheat. All great purroducts, lessen your kitty happens to have an allergy to corn or wheat. Wha’ch’a gonna do now?

 Okocat cat litter

Good point Raena. Well, enter Okocat, a natural litter made of wood. Altho’ we must add they do have one litter made of paper, but, we’re gonna be meowin’ ‘bout the wood today. We got to try the Okocat Soft Step Natural Wood clumping litter. It’s called soft step cuz it’s finely milled to make it easy on kitty’s tender paw pads. Let’s see what Chewy has to say ‘bout the Okocat litter:

Key Benefits

  • Naturally lightweight natural cat litter with a super soft texture your cat will love. Soft Step™ is a fine wood granule, a texture similar to that of clay litter so transitioning your cat to natural is easy. True to its name, it’s perfect for delicate paws, seniors and kittens.

  • Made to control odors for up to 7 days with its patented Odor Shield Technology. Okocat litter binds and traps liquids and odors longer without using chemical additives,

  • Its specially formulated pellets are firm on the outside and soft on the inside. It is fortified with long lasting odor control technology and has been lab-tested and proven to absorb more than 5X its weight in liquid.

  • Higher absorbency and higher yield means litter stays dry and lasts much longer than clay litters, or even other naturals. Superior clumping makes scooping and cleaning easier with less mess and less waste, saving you time and money.

  • It also has the added benefit of being biodegradable. Okocat is naturally lightweight and comes in a smart compostable package with an easy carry handle and pour spout

 Okocat Cat Litter

We received the 7 pound box. Now mommy knew that 7 pounds wouldn’t fill even one of our litter boxes, so she poured it across the top of our regular litter. Okocat recommends the litter box be filled to a depth of 3 inches. Trust me, this is fur sure somethin’ you wanna do, ‘specially ifin you have diggers like me. Mommy says I’s gonna end up in China one of these days. I’s don’t know what she’s talkin’ ‘bout. I’s luvs mine’s home and fur sure don’t wanna go to China without mommy and sissy. Anyways…

It’s a figure of speech Raena. Me knows, human’s sure do have a lot of them. And, half the time they don’t make any sense what so ever. Me asked mommy ‘bout the dust factor and she said, to be honest, she didn’t really ‘member ifin there was a dust cloud or not. That usually means there wasn’t one, cuz she ‘members every time she hacks up a hair ball due to litter dust.

 Okocat cat litter

Yep, I’s didn’t notice all that much dust durin’ mine’s diggin’ forays either sissy. It doesn’t have much of a smell, which is really nice. It feels soft on mine’s paws too. We insist the pawdee box be scooped after every use, so we can’t really meow ‘bout how long the Okocat would hide the smell, but, mommy said it didn’t stink while she was scoopin’. I also didn’t end up with a bloomer full of wood chips. Let me tell ya’, that’s been really nice. Mommy says it has somethin’ to do with the way I’s squat and the litter bein’ wet when I’s stand back up. So, we can surmise that the Okocat natural wood litter clumps and dries almost immediately. And, the clump remains a clump ‘stead of breakin’ up durin’ mine’s attempts of dislodging covering it up.

You and your diggin’ Raena. Me just walks in, squats, goes and leaves. It’s so much easier that way.

Fur you maybe. I’s come ‘round behind ya’ and cover it all up. Did your sis Lexi (God rest her) do that too?

tracked okocat

Okocat tracked onto floor right in front of litterbox and mat.

Who asked ya’, Raena? Mommy’s gonna scoop it out when me’s finished. No need to spend time diggin’ when me could be bathin’ or gettin’ some beauty sleeps. Me must tell ya’ll that while the Okocat wood litters may not stick to our bloomers, it sure does track. Mommy says the bathroom is like a dance floor now…all dusted and ready fur jitterbuggers.

tracked okocat

Littermat in front of large litter box.

Yeah sissy, I’s didn’t unnerstand that one either. But, mommy says she used to luvs to dance; and that all good dance floors had a little sawdust put down to keep them from bein’ too slippery. She said she hadn’t thought ‘bout it befur, but the light bulb went off when she saw the dust on the floor. Wood chips equals sawdust. Anyways, the Okocat comes in several different formulas and textures, from finely milled wood, pine and paper to pellets. It’s also flushable and eco-friendly, bein’ made of 100% reclaimed fibers, free from chemicals, dyes and other synthetics. It ranges in purrice from $11.19 to $18.14 and comes in sizes from 7 pounds to 20 pounds, depending on formulas. All in all, we give it 3 paws up and a thumb up from mommy.

Dezi lays atop the Liberty cat tree

Yep Raena, the only downfall we saw was the dance floor effect. Altho’, mommy says trackin’ is just one of those things kitty peeps get used too. As always, we ‘purreciate Chewy lettin’ us try out the Okocat cat litter. Chewy has purroducts fur all the furry, feathered, and scaled members of your household. You can also set up an auto-ship so you never run out of your favorite purroducts. And Chewy’s customer service is the bestest. You can check out the Chewy blog hop fur other pawsum purroduct reviews.

Chatting Cats: We Can See A Bright Light At the End of the Tunnel

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Looks like I’s might get to lead every Wednesday. At least fur the summer. The lawn crew seems to have chosen this day to annoy us this year. And, does this sound furmiliar? We’re preppin’ fur yet another inspection this month. Befur ya’ get your knickers in a ruffle like mommy does, NO, it’s not legal to bother us this much. The law says management can pull those silly inspections, exterminations, etc., but they must not exceed 1 purr month. Everythin’ that they wanna look at and do, excludin’ maintenance requests, must be done at the same inspection. Do these peeps care what the law says? you know the answer to that one. Anyways, let’s get to the happy stuffs.

Raena looks up at Dezi while they sit on the Liberty cat tree

(Dezi meows loudly from the bedroom door) There’s happy stuffs to meow ‘bout Raena?

Oh yes, sissy. Yesfurday’s ‘pointment went purrfectly.

Dezi hides in bedroom and Raena heads down hall to her

(Dezi slinks halfway down the hall towards the living room and meows) Oh yeah, yesfurday’s news was happy news Raena. We’re so glad to furinally get some good news on the dental front fur mommy. (Dezi hears the leaf blower on the porch and runs back to the bedroom

I’s agree sissy. By now, most of you know that mommy’s been dealin’ with some really bad teeth issues fur quite a few years. Fanky fankfully, she started down the path to remedy those purroblems earlier this year. Anyways, yesfurday mommy trekked back to Ardmore to meet yet another dentist and get a quote to finish up and get the dentures she so badly needs. Let me tell ya’, it was some kind’a hot out yesfurday, but fanky fankfully, the a/c was workin’ and runnin’ full blast. We actually arrived fur mommy’s ‘pointment a few minutes early. That’s a big deal. Fur the last few years, mommy’s been late to almost everythin’. Mommy finds that a little annoyin’ as she was always the purrson to arrive at least 15 minutes early fur everythin’. But, she ain’t gettin’ any younger, so, I’s guess lateness is just one of those things that she’s gonna have to get used too.

Raena laying in stroller at dentist

Anyways, the office seemed quite comfy and relaxed, and the folks at the front desk were really furiendly. Mommy signed in and sat down to wait her turn. She didn’t have to wait fur long befur they was callin’ her to the back. They took some new x-rays and put her in a room and asked a few questions to purrpare her fur the doctor. After a few minutes alone watchin’ some silly movie on the small screen in front of her, a nice and very purretty lady walked in and innerduced herself as Doctor Amy. You know mine’s mommy, she’s always tellin’ peeps how nice they look and this was no exception. Mommy actually told her that she was too purretty to be a dentist. MOL They all had a good laff and Doctor Amy went in to look at mommy’s remainin’ teethies.

Profile of Dezi sitting on the floor and looking toward the door

Ya’ know Raena, me will never unnerstand why they always ask questions while they’ve got fingers and tools inside mommy’s mouth. Me doesn’t know how in the world they can unnerstand anythin’ mommy’s sayin’.

Me either sissy, me either. Nevertheless, mommy and doctor Amy had a back and furth mumble and came up with a plan. They’re gonna pull the rest of mommy’s teeth except the 2 canines on the bottom. Apparently, lower dentures can be quite a purroblem what with movin’ ‘round, becomin’ dislodged and even fallin’ out without some kind of anchor. Ya’ know, like that denture glue or somethin’. So, in mommy’s case, that anchor is gonna be those 2 canines. Technically, mommy will need what they call a partial on the bottom, and a full denture on the top.

(Not hearing the loud noises from the lawn crew anymore, Dezi heads back down the hallway towards the living room) Well, Raena, me’s glad they could figger out a way fur mommy to keep those things in place. Wouldn’t that be just to funny fur mommy to be talkin’ to someone and have her teethies fall out in her lap. MOL

Dezi and Raena playing on floor

That would be funny, sissy. But, I’s glad mommy won’t have that purroblem. Let me tell ya’ how it’s all gonna work. Mommy goes in next Monday to have impressions made so they can make her new teethies, called a plate or denture. She chose the cheap one that comes with a 6 month warranty and no frills. After havin’ those impressions made, mommy will make a ‘pointment to have all those top teethies removed. She has 4 more teethies in her sinuses, so looks like she’ll be takin’ more Sudafed and not blowin’ her nose again fur a while. The cost fur all this is $1,219.00.

Dezi sniffs tree ledge while Raena watches her

The day she has all those top teethies removed she’ll need to make another ‘pointment to have the bottom teethies removed. She’s gonna have to separate her ‘pointments cuz she doesn’t yet have enuff green papers to get it all done at the same time. Altho’ we do have our paws crossed, that by the time the dentures are made, we’ll have all the green papers and mommy can just do it all at the same time. The bottom cost is a bit higher than the top cuz they have to create teethies with a gap and wires to account fur those canine anchors they’re leavin’ in mommy’s mouth. The cost of the bottom is, $1,799.00.

Let me see ifin me can simplify these nummers Raena.

Cost of top teeth removal and full denture, including adjustments as mommy’s mouth heals and shrinks:

  • $1,219.00

Cost of bottom teeth removal and partial, including adjustments as mommy’s mouth heals and shrinks:

  • $1,799.00

This all comes to a total cost of:

  • $3,018.00

We’re gonna guestimate the cost of Sudafed and other medicines at ‘round:

  • $200.00

Mommy currently has: $1,800.00.

So we need a total of:

  • $1,418.00 by the end of July

Dezi and Raena and mommy A in a frame collage

We luv our mommy so very much. We want her to be the bestest

she can be, and the happiest she can be. So, we need your help,

cuz we can’t actually make any green papers.

That’s great sissy. Fanky fanks fur simplifyin’ it like that. We’re gonna open a new fundraiser with the new figgers. Here’s the linky fur the new fundraiser: Help Mommy A and of course, you can always donate directly to our paypal at: lexi.dezi@yahoo.com . That’s lexi (dot) dezi (at) yahoo (dot) com. Because of the credit card fees, you’ll see the fundraiser is set at $1,500.00 so we can cover those charges and still get the actual amount needed. Anythin’ extra will go towards our care.

Dezi and Raena lay atop the Liberty cat tree

We really ‘purreciate all your help and support and purrayers. Even ifin ya’ can’t donate, purrlease share. Ya’ never know who might be out there that could help mommy. And, ifin anypawdy knows where mommy can sell her gold crown, purrlease let us know. They’ll be pullin’ it out soon and mommy would luv to be able to put that money towards her care or ours.

 Raena lays on shower bench

You got that right sissy. We have the bestest furiends in the universe. I’s just know we’ll be able to get mommy to the other side of this soon. Now, the lawn crew’s gone, so let’s go play.

Service Cats: Surviving A Remodel Intact

Welcome to another Service Cat Monday. We so totally furgot that mommy had an early ‘pointment today. And, that today is Boxing Day here in the blogosphere. That bein’ said, we’re not gonna leave ya’ hangin’. Let me get the business outta the way so we can get on with it. As with all our Trainin’ posts, the followin’ will be written in human English fur translator and reader ease. Our Trainin’ posts aren’t meant to be a step by step manual, but rather, Tips, Tricks and Techniques mommy has used/developed throughout her many years of animal training, cats in purrticular. Ifin ya’ have any questions or trainin’ questions, purrlease leave them in the comments or send us an email. Purrlease be as specific as pawssible when askin’ behavioral questions. Ifin you have missed any posty in this series, you can ketch up by clickin’ the links at the bottom of this or any Service Cat Monday posty. And always ‘member, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

Dezi laying in cat tree in new harness

Well, the last several Service Cat Monday posts have been about dealing with the “Aggressive” Kitty. As we stated last week, that topic is almost unending, but we felt we had covered the issues that had been presented to us and were planning to move on this week. But alas, our sweet friend Valentine left a comment after last weeks post that requires an almost immediate response. The one thing we won’t do, is leave a topic when a kitty or it’s human are in danger or being hurt. And, the reason we’re addressing this here instead of an email is our belief that if one person’s asking, there are more wondering.

Dezi lays on piano bench after apartment flood

After our apartment flooded, we were all packed up and livin’ in

inches fur months befur the remodel was finished and we could get back to livin’.

Let me explain the situation and question as posed to us: A friend is having their house remodeled and one of the 3 indoor kitties is having a very hard time of it and has become “Aggressive”, going so far as to bite and scratch her human. Kitty has been shut in a back room to allow her to decompress, but it’s not really helping. There may also be an outside factor, as there is a family of strays living under the porch. Apparently, kitty has also attempted to escape to the great outdoors.

Lexi floats on carpet after flood with dryers blowing

Fearless sis Lexi cautiously floats on the carpet after the flood while

the noisy fan dryers were blowing.

Well now, sounds like there’s a few problems here, right? The first issue we have, is that we wouldn’t call this kitty’s behavior “Aggressive”. Nor, are we surprised this is happening. As we stated in our previous post, Cats Do Not Like Change or Loud Noises. Having lived through a flood, move, apartment remodel, new roof, new a/c, new hot water heater, and more stranger’s traipsin’ through me’s house than me cares to remember, me’s here to tell you that can really stress a cat out; even one as laid back as us Ragdolls. This is one of those situations, where more information is needed to determine the exact problem. But, we’re going to do our best to help with what we have. Based on the fact this is a remodel and the kitty in question wasn’t presenting this behavior beforehand, we feel pretty safe saying, the feral family under the porch probably isn’t a problem. However, it wouldn’t hurt to feed them a bit further away from the house. We also don’t know exactly where this person lives, but we do suggest providing shelter for the ferals’ away from the house as well. You know, gotta take care of our ferals.

Dezi sits in box with mouth open

Now let’s get to the heart of this problem, the Remodel. This noise is kind of like the carpet monster (vacuum cleaner), you can’t get rid of it until the job is done. That means, kitty is going to have to learn to live with it. Thankfully, it’s only temporary. Now me knows some of you just said to your selves, What? Your mommy wouldn’t do that to you?. Well folks, let me tell ya’, sometimes, life just isn’t perfect and everybody/kitty has to adjust. What we don’t know, that would really be helpful, is why and when is kitty biting, scratching and trying to escape. A scared kitty will often react with claws and teeth, and that’s what we suspect is happening here. The good thing is this can be fixed.

(While me’s at it, let me give you an example of a “specific”. The workers are in and out and my kitty is trying to run out the door. Or, the workers are hammering and making a lot of noise and my kitty went running crouched down and I grabbed her to put her in the decompression room and she scratched and bit me.)

 Dezi sits on a box

The Decompression room needs to be a kitty oasis until the remodel is over and the human needs to remain calm and positive when dealing with kitty. The room needs to have a litter box, food, water, cat bed, covered box or cat carrier (with the door open or better yet, off), a few favorite toys, and a well scented piece of clothing. And not the shirt you’re wearing during that fight with the contractor. (MOL) Leave a piece of clothing you were wearing during a time of no stress and happiness. Remember, cats are all about the smell. And trust me, we know happy smell and mad/upset smell. A small perch or cat tree placed near a window would also be good. Before the workers come in the morning, kitty should be taken to the Decompression room for a quick play session and a bite of breakfast. Maybe even a few of those extra special favorite treats you only buy at Christmas and birthdays. Now’s the time to buy them. It would also be good if you could put on some calm music or one of those white noise machines. Or, if you have kitties like us that like to watch teevee, turn on the boob tube (television).

Raena plays in a chewy box

As long as all the cats are getting along, all 3 should be in the Decompression room together. Believe it or not, their presence will help “Scared” kitty to be more relaxed and secure. Make sure there are several hide outs (covered boxes or carriers) available, so all kitties can hide if they need too. If this room is a bedroom, leave the closet door open. Mommy says to please remove any expensive or treasured clothes or quilts. Can you believe we’re not allowed in the closet at all? Anyways, this would be the exception to that rule. And as silly as it sounds, think positively. Yeah, we said it, think happy thoughts. See all of this as a good thing. Tell kitty how wonderful everything’s going to be when all this is over. And each day when the workers leave, let kitty explore and get used to her new territory. Remember, it’s kitty’s newly remodeled home, you just pay the bills. MOL

Raena laying in a chewy box

As for the “trying to escape”, we really don’t have enough information to even guess at a solution. We seriously doubt it has anything to do with the ferals’ under the porch and more likely trying to escape the noise and strangers in her home. But again, we just can’t be sure. It would be irresponsible for us to give a specific answer about that.

We hope we’ve helped a little, and we’re sorry we can’t offer more. The friend is welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll do all we can to help her and kitty. A happy peaceful home is our desire for every kitty in the world. As always, we welcome your questions, comments and post suggestions. And, ifin you’ve missed any of the posts in this series, you can ketch up by clickin’ the links below. As me said earlier, mommy has a ‘pointment today and one tomorrow, so we’ll be ‘round to visit as soon as we can. In the meantime, have a great Boxing Day. Hope you enjoyed our boxing day fotos and a little blast from the flooded past. (See, we can laff ’bout it now).
