Happy Labor Day!!! Yep it’s a day we celebwate workin’ wiffout actually workin’. Mommy sez when she was yunger literwally everyfin’ was closed on Labor day. We now live in a 24/7 world and so there awe a few fings still open today. Mostly wetail stores what be havin’ sales. All government places awe closed. Dat means no bankin and no snail mail among udder fings. And in our little town everypawdy else finks they be a government agency as well cuz they be closed today too. You know mommy went to hers mumffly doctors pointment last Furiday and Doc told us dat hims was gunna play da get lost and be outta pawcket game all weekend includin’ Monday. Mommy sed even we was takin’ da day off fwum writin’ and just duin’ sum casual visitin’.

While this lack of workin’ and businesses bein’ open dusn’t weally affect us, we know lots of peeps dat be aggwavated dat they can’t carry on business as usual. But hey there’s purrobly purrlenty of ya’ enjoyin’ da last bit of summer hangin’ out at da lake, or spendin’ time wiff furmily and furieds. Maybe yous just sittin’ on da porch wiff a nice glass of sweet iced tea takin’ in da smells of an outgoin’ summer and incomin’ fall. Dezi, you got sum ‘splainin’ to do…

Yep dat’s zactly what mommy sed to me when we began to wead da comments fwum Fursday’s posty and our emails. And what better day to put a pawsitive light on a negative than Blest Sunday. Cuz yous know we be blest. So weez told you Fursday dat we was gunna be takin’ sum cweative licenses wiff our Izzy and Tristy flat scout twavel posties. And dat it was gunna be fun. We also added dat it wuld be a challenge cuz mommy has a blood clot on hers bwain dat affects hers cweativity and short term memorwy. Thus story tellin’ (ie: lyin’) isn’t sumfin’ mommy duz very well. Me must tell ya’ dat mommy never did like lyin’ and lyers so dat pawrt of da injury dusn’t weally bovver her. Da pawrt of da short term memorwy fing dat duz bovver her is da furgettin’ fings and peeps and names and such. So mommy lives by a calendar. She puts everyfin’ she needs to do in not 1 but several calendars and sets up weminders fur da weally purrtant stuffs. Da puter has been a pawsum help wiff these fings. As fur da cweativity, mommy wrote fings like songs and poetry and short stowries all based in fact. She sez it dusn’t take a lot of cweativity to write facts. Least dat be hers ‘pinion. So da clot never weally bovvered her in dat wespect. ifin our Flat Fursday adventures wemind you of a book yous read or movie yous seen it’ll be cuz mommy and me will draw fwum those speriences as well as sum of mommys own to write ‘bout Izzy and Tristy’s adventures. Mommy has led a very adventurwous life back afur hers accident. Who is she twyin’ to kid…it’s been purretty ‘citin’ since da accident too. And as you can see fwum our fotos today, mommy’s been playin’ in da foto apps again. MOL Hope yous enjoy seein’ them.

It’s not all good tho’, it duz come wiff it’s own issues. Da blood clot be da main weason mommy has constant migwaines. Migwaines be pawrtly a blood flow issue and when da blood can’t flow fureely it causes purroblems. So da clot on mommys bwain duz affect her health and pain levels. But mommy sez da bestest medicine is a purrin’ kitty massagin’ yous head. But mommy sez da blood clot be da least of hers concerns cuz da pain in da rest of hers body, da sciatica and da neuropaffy causes hers more aches and affects hers daily life in ways da clot dusn’t.

Fur those of you dat asked, No, there weally isn’t any tweatment. Yes they kuld do surgerwy and twy to dissolve or wemove it, but there’s a huge chance she won’t ever wake up again. And since it’s affects awe manageable she dusn’t weally fink ‘bout it much. By manageable we mean calendars, notes, schedules, purrin’, massagin’ kitties, and migwaine medicine. The good news is dat it hasn’t moved or grown in all these years so it’s purretty stable. There is always a pawssibility dat it kuld bweak loose. Ifin dat was to happen…mommy wuld dwop dead instantly. Now mommy’s fur sure in no hurry to die or leave us, but she duz say dat she’s weady to meet hers Maker ifin and when da time comes. After all it wuld be immediate, and pain furee. Dat’s sumfin’ to be fankful fur. Now weez in no way mean this to be a sad and somber posty. As you know we don’t live dwellin’ on these fings. We just ‘cided it wuld be easier to tell everypawdy at once stead of twyin’ to write it a bunch of times to tell yous individually. And lots of you dat asked awe on blogger and don’t know when weez weply to yous comment anyways.

We give fanks everyday dat we have anudder day togevver. And we feel extwemely blest to be here and to have met all of you. Seems this past year has flown by so fast and it’ll be over afur yous know it. But what a blessin’ this year has been. We’ve met in purrson so many more of our wunnewful innewnet furmily and it’s been furbulous!!! We do hope to be able to attend BlogPaws this next year so we can meet and weconnect wiff all of you. Only time will tell, and weez purrayin’ it happens fur sure. Weez also sendin’ out purrayers to all our furiends, and extwas fur those in need. Well we was as busy as me had fawt we wuld be yesfurday and didn’t get to visit wiff anypawdy. So guess what weez gunna be duin’ today? Yep dat’s wight, weez gunna be twyin’ to get caught back up. Since Monday be a holiday everypawdy was out yesfurday. Da doctors office was packed and there was standin’ room only at da fawrmacy. Speakin’ of holidays, this mumff da blogosphere be celebwatin’ cats. Mommy sez we kitties shuld be celebwated all da time, but she’s always happy to have da rest of da world celebwate wiff her. Now ifin yous been followin’ meez postys lately yous know today shuld be anudder Cat Scout Flat Scout Caturday. But Sammy P headed home Monday and weez not had any new visitors show up. But hey, all’s not lost.

Member our awnty dat came fur a visit da uvver day? Well she was weally ‘cited ‘bout our twavelin’ adventures. She wecently lost hers own sweet kitty and cuz she be fwum da U.S. but livin’ in Slovakia wight now she can’t weally get anudder pawsum ball of fur. So she asked mommy ifin me, aka Izzy wuld like to twavel to Slovakia wiff her and see a few sights. Oh me cats and kitten what fun me fawt dat wuld be. And so mommy sed dat wuld be wunnewful ifin she wanted to show me, aka Izzy da sights acwoss da world. Sis Lexi heard us talkin’ and piped in dat she wanted to go too. She meowed she hadn’t dun anyfin’ like dat in all hers 16 years. So a kupple purrint outs later, and by da way mommy purrinted our fotos on da wrong side of da foto paper; flat Izzy and flat Alexis (aka sis Lexi,) was weady to become world twavelers. We twaveled back to Austin wiff awnty Lizbeth where she packed and got weady fur hers weturn to Slovakia.

Our furst stop after awwivin’ in Austin was da Fiesta gwocery store where our new awnty, Sonia, is da manager. Da awnties took us to Starbucks fur one last coffee afur awnty Lizbeth had to leave. We, our flats, was so ‘cited. Weez never been on a plane afur. Even when sissy was yunger and mommy twaveled a bit they always took da cawr. We arrived at da airport in Houston in purrlenty of time to go fwu all da security purrcautions they take today afur lettin’ ya’ on da plane. A quick stop fur a foto op and we boarded da plane headin’ fur da uvver side of da world. We had a quick stop in Paris, too quick fur foto ops and we was off to Vienna. Izzy (aka Dezi) and Alexis (aka Lexi) was well behaved while twavellin’. Awnty Lizbeth sed we was purrfect angels. Finally we awwived in Vienna. OMC What a place. We had our fotos taken in fwunt of da welkum to Vienna sign and then headed off fur Slovakia. We (flat Lexi and flat Dezi) can’t wait to see where weez be off to next. Fanks fur takin’ us awnty Lizbeth; weez havin’ a blast.

Poison In A Bag

Well it’s finally Furiday. Mommy has hers mumffly doctors pointment today so we ‘cided to write a short posty since we won’t be able to do much in da way of visitin’. We was gunna write a Service cat twainin’ posty but we got a email yesfurday dat weally disturbed us so we wanted to take today to write ‘bout it and warn peeps.

Wiff more and more peeps bein’ disabled and havin’ aches and pains these days, there awe lots of studies into pain management. One of da newest options is one of da oldest dwugs wound, Cannabis. Yep pawently good ole once illegal everywhere marijuana’s posed to help wiff pain. We get lots of purrsonal messages and emails askin’ us to sign petitions to legalize da medical use of it. Mommy supposes we get asked so much cuz peeps know hers lives wiff tons of pain and wuld be sympaffetic. And da twuff is we awe empaffetic wiff those speriencin’ pain cuz mommy duz know what it’s like. And Cannabis isn’t any more addictive than any uvver nawrcotic pain weliever. So what’s da big deal you ask?

Well it’s fur sure hawrder fur most animals to get into a bottle of pain medicine than a bag. And peeps tend to be more careful wiff a bottle of pain medicine and don’t tend to just leave it layin’ wound. Now dat’s not to say dat there awen’t animals out there getting’ into those pills and getting’ sick, but da nummers awe purretty low cuz most peeps know most human meds be dangerwous fur their animal furiends.

But da use of marijuana is much more welaxed cuz it’s sumfin’ dat be smoked. And most peeps don’t fink twice ‘bout smokin’ wound their furry babies. And leavin’ da bag of marijuana layin’ wound is similar to leavin’ a pack of cigarwettes layin’ wound. Da active ingwedient dat gives hoomans those welaxed feelins is called delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. Afur da use of marijuana as a pain med, da THC levels was wound 1% – 3%. But today THC levels awe much higher and have even been noted at over 30%.

This ingwedient is highly toxic to yous cats, doggies, wabbits, pigs and all small animals; specially those wiff bweavin’ conditions. Smokin’ da dwug wound yous pet is hawrmful, but not nearly as hawrmful as them eatin’ it fwum dat bag dat be layin’ wound. Since da legality of Cannabis fur medical conditions has occurred there has been a rise of marijuana poisoning in dogs and cats. There awe more documented cases among our canine furiends, but studies show dat kitties have more severe and lastin’ weactions. Da symptoms of Cannabis poisonin’ in cats and uvver small animals is: Lethargy, Uncoordinated (falling over), Depression and/or Anxiety, Vomitin’, Slow Heart rate, Seizures and sometimes Coma. It can be fatal.

We wuld like to wemind you dat ifin yous usin Cannabis fur any weason dat yous keep it out of da weach of yous furry pal. Purrlease don’t leave it where your pets can get into it. And ifin yous spect marijuana poisonin’ call da ASPCA poison contwol line and get yous pet to da VET immediately.
