Chatting Cats: Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey #ChewyInfluencer

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Furstly, I’s sure wanna fanky fank everypawdy fur their purrayers. Sis Dezi is feelin’ much better and availin’ herself of the pawtty box again. Mommy seems much happier ‘bout that too. I’s really gonna miss the slip slidey piddle pads all over the place. What fun!!! Mommy will purrobably be a lot happier ‘bout that too. Anyways…

Raena sits on cat mat while Dezi sits in front licking lips

RaenaBelle!!! We ain’t spendin’ a whole ‘nother posty meowin’ ‘bout me’s piddle issues. But, me really does ‘purreciate the purrayers. Now, we’ve got a review to write today.

Dezi watching Raena while they eat

Sure ‘nuff sissy. As most of ya’ know, we eat freeze dried noms on the regular. As anypawdy who has ever shopped freeze dried raw noms knows, it’s kind’a ‘spensive. ‘Course, mommy says ‘nuffin’ but the bestest fur her girls. We sure are Blest. Anyways, that bein’ said, we’re on a fixed income so mommy’s always lookin’ fur ways to save a few dollars while still purrvidin’ us with the bestest quality on the market. To do that, mommy mixes a couple of brands of freeze dried noms together. Mommy’s also always lookin’ fur new proteins fur us to try. While it might not be ideal fur us kitties to eat somethin’ different at every meal, it’s also not good fur us to eat only one food or protein. Ya’ never know when fur whatever reason (allergies, health problems, etc.), we might need to mix it up. So, we all got x’cited to see Stella and Chewy’s freeze dried cat food up fur review this month from Chewy.

This is a sponsored post. We received a 3.5 oz bag of food in exchange fur our honest opinion. Neither Chewy nor Stella & Chewy’s are responsible for the opinions expressed in this post unless otherwise stated. As always, we tell it like we see it and only bring products we use or have tried and believe would be of interest to you, our readers and friends.

Yep Raena, we sure were. Me used to eat it all the time, till we got a few bags that had way too much bone in them and mommy saw that they were usin’ that bad vitamin K. But wait, savvy customers like mommy and most of ya’ll alerted the peeps at Stella & Chewy’s and they removed the bad stuffs from their noms in Feruary 2017. Now that’s the kind’a respawnse we’d all like to see from pet food manufacturers, ain’t it?

Dezi and Raena sniff Stella & Chewy's freeze dried turkey food

Yep sissy, it sure is. Anyways, as most of ya’ know, we luvs us some rabbit. Unfurtunately, mommy says rabbit is one of the most ‘spensive proteins on the market; so she has to supplement our rabbit with other proteins. That mostly means chicken, but Stella & Chewy’s make other proteins too: Salmon & Chicken, Duck, Duck, Goose, Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey, Sea-licious Salmon and Cod and of course, Chicken and our fave, Rabbit. They also have lots of flavors fur the woofies. You might ‘member that we luvs us some fureshly baked turkey tom lurkey, so mommy thought she’d get us a bag of that Stella & Chewy’s Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey to try. Let’s see what Chewy says ‘bout it:

True enuff sissy. Let’s get to the taste testin’. That’s mine’s favorote pawrt. We like small bites, so mommy had to break the little nuggets in half and add some water. I’s not a fan of the Tummy Ticklin’ Turkey. I’s would much rather have a freshly cooked turkey tom lurkey. But, I’s do like that the company lissens to it’s customers, so fur that reason me will give it 2 paws up. What ‘bout you sissy?

Blest Sunday: Tummy Time Is the Right Time

MeOW Raena, did you see the clock? We’re runnin’ late fur our Blest Sunday posty.

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

I’s think the clock is wrong sissy. Brekky was on time, so the clock must be wrong. Maybe the power went out durin’ that big o’l wind storm we had last night.

Dezi lays on scratcher and looks back at Raena

That doesn’t even make sense Raena. Ifin the power had gone out, the clocks would be way late. Besides, even ifin the power goes out, the catputer always tells the right time. Haven’t you heard? Catputers don’t lie.

Yeah sissy, I’s heard that. Haven’t you heard that catputers are only as smart as the purrson inputin’ data? That means, catputers can lie. They can be just as wrong as anythin’ else.

Dezi lays on scratcher with paw up

Whatever Raena. Mommy says the catputer is tellin’ the right time. She says humans did that thing with the clocks again last night and we lost an hour.

We lost an hour? Where’d it go? Ifin we lost an hour, why was brekky on time?

Dezi lays on scratcher with mouth open

Me has no clue where it went Raena, and neither do any of the humans behind this clock changin’ thing. Contrary to their beliefs, we don’t actually get that hour back in the fall when they insist on changin’ the clocks again. Fankfully, mommy unnerstands the circadian rhythm that we anipals gauge time by. Since we can’t actually tell the time, we depend on our own bodies to tell us when it’s time to eat, sleep and everythin’ else.

Raena lays on floor with tongue touching nose

          Like bath time, sissy?

Sure Raena, bath time too. Anyways, while lots of anipals who live with humans are all confused this meownin’ cuz their peeps fed them at the wrong time, that didn’t happen here. Mommy uses tummy time fur our schedule. Me did a little research last night and learned that peeps should help their anipals adjust to the clock changes by only alterin’ their schedule by a few minutes a day over the period of a couple of weeks, ‘stead of expectin’ us to change everythin’ just cuz of some hands on a clock. Ifin they don’t, they might find themselves with really upset and confused anipals who act out a little or even get sick. Me even learned that heart attacks in humans increase the furst week after pushin’ the clocks furward every year. Seems nopawdy was meant to mess with time.

That’s innerestin’ sissy. But all I’s really care ‘bout is that our dinner’s still gonna be on time.

Dezi lays on scratcher looking cute

Well Raena, the bestest me can meow is that it’ll be as on time as usual. Since mommy uses tummy time, she won’t be watchin’ a clock any more than usual.

Dezi and Raena touch noses while laying on the heated cat mat

Well, fanky fank mine’s tummy. Hey, sissy? I’s think we also have a few blessings we need to give fanky fanks fur this week. As most everypawdy knows, the dentist office is insistin’ on more money to finish mommy’s teethies; money we don’t have. So we were pawfully fanky fankful when some angels stepped up this past week to help out. It irks mommy to pay their extortion, but ifin she doesn’t she won’t get the teethies/dentures she needs. Altho’, she does have complaints ready to file the minute this is all over. She’s a little scared to file while the work is in progress cuz they could really mess things up fur her.

Dezi lays on scratcher while Raena sits behind her

Yeah Raena, a rock and a hard place really isn’t a fun place to be. So fank you so very much awnty Susan, and our Anonymous awnties and uncles that have sent green papers. We’re gettin’ really close to the total amount needed. And, fankfully, your eyes have been doin’ okay, but you still need to go to the V E T. Mommy says she’s workin’ on that one too. Ifin anypawdy would like to help with either mommy’s teethies or your V E T ‘pointment, they can always donate to our paypal at lexi.dezi@yahoo.com. Mommy uses any money that comes in fur our care unless the giver specifies somethin’ else.

Pussy willow cuttings rooting in water

We are so Blest sissy. And hey, did you see the pussy willows mommy put in water? They’re not just growin’ roots, those things have new growth comin’ out the top of the stems. Mommy’s so x’cited. We’re gonna have our very own pussy willow tree/bush. Mommy plans on tryin’ to keep it cut back and small more like an 8 – 10 ft. bush. Awnty Ellen has offurred to help mommy figger it all out. Their trees were transplants too, so they’ve already done it. I’s can’t wait to see what happens.

Pussy willow cuttings with new growthCheck out all that green new growth. OMC

Me neither Raena. They sure are cute. Anyways, we better wrap this up finish our brekky. Ya’ know somepawdy said they couldn’t believe we only ate a little of our noms and went back later to finish ‘em off. The most ‘purrtant reason we take a break is to check on mommy and see ifin we’re missin’ anythin’ outside and to go to the pawtty box room. The second reason is that ifin we scarf it down, we throw it right back up, and mommy hates that almost as much as we do. Anyways, let’s go eat and get some cuddles. We’d like to remind you all to take a minute today and every day to give Thanks fur the blessings in your life.

Service Cats: How Long Does It Take To Train A Cat Pt. 2

MeOW and welcome to a new installment of Service Cats and Everything Feline. Keep the questions coming. ‘Member, there’s no stupid question, we can’t all know everythin’ all the time. We do want to remind you to be as specific as pawssible when askin’ behavioral questions. We want to give you the best Training Tips to correct the unwanted behavior. Well bahaved kitties mean more kitties stay in their furever homes. And yes, a lot of mommy A’s Training Tips can be used to Train dogs, horses and other species, not just the finicky feline in your life. You can ketch up on any of the posts in this series by clickin’ on Training Tips and Everything Feline on our menu bar. There you will find the links to all our Educational posts and Training Tips. Today’s posty is a continuation of last weeks post where we began to address the question, “How long does it take to Train a Cat?” Let’s get the business out of the way and get this pawrty started.

Dezi laying in cat tree in new harness

The followin’ post will be written in human English fur reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Trainin’ Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy A thru her many years of animal trainin’, cats in purrticular. And to offur insight into your questions about Everything Feline. Always remember, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

Raena sits posing in her tiger harness

Last week we explained that we couldn’t really put an exact time table on Training because there are a lot of factors to be considered, such as age, breed, abilities/disabilities and personality. But, all kitties/cats can be Trained and actually enjoy Training. We briefly told you about how long it took Shad, mommy’s first Service Cat, to Train herself. You can read all about Shad here. We then moved on to Lucky and sis Lexi,  mommy’s first “driving” (wheelchair) kitties. The greatest thing you have when it comes to Training, is an animals’ curiosity and desire to please their human(s). A Bonded animal will go to great lengths to get their human’s approval and love.

 Lexi lays in wheelchair

So, let’s take a look now at how long it took sis Lexi to learn to drive mommy’s first wheelchair. As we mentioned it took about 3 months for Lexi to get over her fears of the wheelchair. You have to remember, a wheelchair isn’t just a big chair, it’s a big, heavy moving piece of furniture. Unfortunately, many a kitty has probably had their tail run over more than once by someone in a wheelchair. Unintentionally of course, but me’s sure it hurts just the same. So, we left off with Lexi trying to push the joystick one morning after having watched her brother move the chair the night before by doing just that. Altho’ the chair was plugged in and wouldn’t operate, mommy praised Lexi for her attempts and told her how proud she was. Once mommy was in the chair herself, she held Lexi in her lap while letting Lexi rest her front paws on mommy’s driving hand (mommy could still move her upper body well in the morning’s at that time). As mommy’s hand and Lexi’s paws pushed the joystick forward, mommy continued to praise Lexi and say “Good girl. Let’s go to the potty room.” yes, the first thing mommy ever needs to do in the morning is hit the bathroom. Seems everybody including the kitties all have to take advantage of the facilities first thing in the morning, so Lexi had jumped out of the chair and after using the litterbox took up her watchful place on the bathroom sink’s vanity.

 Lexi's signature pose

Mommy did well under the ever watchful eyes of sweet Lexi.

The next stop mommy always makes is the kitchen to prepare a kitty feast. Again, Lexi sat in mommy’s lap with her front paws on mommy’s driving hand as they headed to the kitchen. And again, mommy praised Lexi and said “To the kitchen, it’s time for brekky.” Yes, mommy’s always used a lot of baby talk with us. This pattern was repeated off and on during the day for the next several months. Training sessions lasted about 15 minutes each time for each kitty, Lexi and then Lucky. Remember, Training is ALL about Repetition and Rewards. In this case, taking kitty for rides and praising them throughout each session. Lucky caught on much quicker than Lexi and was driving without mommy’s hand in about 4 months. Lexi took her successful, no help from mommy drive about 2 months later; for a total of 6 months Active Training. That means a total of 9 months passed from the time the wheelchair entered the house to the time Lexi successfully maneuvered it by herself. When we say “by herself”, we mean that mommy’s hands were no where near the joystick. However, mommy did and still does use her hands to steady and support us on her leg.

Dezi checks out the new Powerchair

The joystick extends anywhere from 6 to 12 inches from the arm. The wheelchair’s arm is approximately 2 to 3 inches wide, so there’s technically not enough room for us to stand, lay or sit on the arm and drive. We must remain in mommy’s lap and stretch/lean forward to connect with the joystick. This “stretch” makes us a little unsteady, especially when the chair is in motion. Because the chair can continue to move slightly even after pressure on the joystick stops, means that it can be extremely dangerous if we were to fall, thus the need for some support from the rider/mommy.

Baby Dezi looks up at Lexi laying in the wheelchair

Hey sissy, how’d you get up there? Me wants to be just like you.

Let’s move forward a bit to the time me joined mommy, and sis Lexi. By this time, sis Lexi was 10 years old and pretty much everything was old hat to her. Meaning, she was fully Trained and wasn’t learning anything new. At least that’s what mommy thought. We’ll come back to this a little later. So, me came to live with mommy and sis Lexi when me was about 2 1/2 – 3 weeks old. Me was very tiny and very sick. Thankfully, me was in the purrfect home with just the right mommy. Me had picked mommy instead of her picking me, so me bonded with her right away. Oh how me loves and adores mommy and me’s then sis Lexi. Me wanted to be just like sissy. Even though she was huge compared to me, me tried to do everything she did.

Baby Dezi her first week at home

35mm camera image

Yep, me was so tiny the only potty box me could reach was a foil bakin’ pan.

Mommy remembers one of the first showers she took after me came to live here. When mommy would get in the shower, sis Lexi would automatically jump into the shower with her and stand at the back or on the other side of the shower curtain that was in the tub. This time, mommy had just stepped into the shower accompanied by sis Lexi when she heard a banging echo on the tub. She pulled back the curtain to see little o’l me trying desperately to jump into the bathtub with her and Lexi. Me wasn’t even as tall as mommy’s ankles, so the tub was certainly to tall for me to get into. And, ya’ know what? Those tubs are slippery. There’s nothing for a kitty to grab onto for climbing. But me had watched mommy get into the shower accompanied by sis Lexi for a couple of days, and remember, me wanted to do everything sissy did. Anyways, sis Lexi jumped on the edge of the tub and laid down to comfort me while mommy continued her shower. Mommy says shortly after she got into the shower, she could hear me meowing me’s squeaky meow like crazy. And, when she came to, she found me laying under her wet hair on the floor. Little did mommy know at that time, but me had been trying to tell her that she was going to pass out.

Lexi lays in bathroom sink while Dezi lays on vanity beside her

Me sure did luv me’s sis Lexi.

Mommy says this topic is lengthy, so we need to wrap it up fur today. But, we’ll be pickin’ up where we left off next time. We know you want to know all ‘bout how me learned to help mommy and how long it took, so be sure to click that follow button ifin you haven’t already done so. And don’t furget to submit your questions, whether about us, Training, Health issues or Anything Feline in the comments or via email thru our contact page. Mommy has experience with other animal species as well, so just leave your questions and we’ll try to give you an answer. And, you can ketch up on any post you may have missed or just want to re-read by clickin’ Training Tips and Everything Feline from our menu above. Well, that’s it fur now, see ya’ soon.

Chatting Cats: When Best Laid Plans Go Awry

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Welllllll, Hmmpht……..

Raena stands on the Liberty Cat tree while Dezi looks back at her from the ledge

          Raena? Are you okay?

Yeah, fanky fanks sissy. I’s just have so much on mine’s mind, I’s didn’t know what to meow fur a minute.

Dezi with mouth open over nip toy from EllenMOL MOL MOL

Really? You? Not know what to meow? (Dezi heads for the phone) Hold on, let me call those world record peeps right quick. They’re gonna wanna put this one down in the history books me bets. Yep, the day Raena didn’t know what to meow. Me bets they’ll even wanna make a movie or somethin’.

Very funny, sissy. You’re quite the comedienne aren’t ya’?

Dezi lickes paw while laying on the heated cat mat

Sometimes me does amaze me’s self. Why don’t ya’ start with why ya’ll came home so early yesfurday.

Raena bathes while Dezi lays in the cat beds behind her

Oh sissy, was that weather skeery or what!!? Power flickers, hot one second then cold the next. And the rain and thunder and lightnin’, oh my!!! And mommy was so tired, she couldn’t even see to clean her teethies and put ‘em in. She didn’t think much ‘bout it tho’, after all, we were goin’ to get her purrmanent ones. Least that’s what we thought.

Yeah, she did seem kinda upset when ya’ll got home, what happened.

Well sissy, that was purrobably a mixture of everythin’ includin’ how tired she was. But, it started when the peeps at the dentist office said that those things she’s been wearin’ were gonna be her purrmanent teethies cuz she couldn’t affurd the new denture. Mommy calmly but furmly flew off the handle and told ‘em she’d been complainin’ ‘bout those things since the day they she furst saw ‘em. And that had she been told that then, she would’a never accepted ’em. And, that at every ‘pointment, she had been reassured that those were just “place holders” and that she would get a new denture that not only fit purropurrly but looked good, ya’ know like actual teeth. They had given her this gummy thing that was uneven, undersized and had teeth, ifin you could call ‘em that, that looked like they fit in a child’s mouth; one that had some sort of gum disease at that. When the girly went to meow at the office manager, me and mommy began to purray. Quietly of course, we didn’t wanna disturb anypawdy else. Anyways, after repeatin’ her story a few times they furinally agreed to make mommy a new one. So, they took new impurrsions and scheduled another ‘pointment fur next week. We didn’t get nuffin’, and as we walked out, they told mommy to be sure to bring that nasty thing next week so they could “see” it. Hmmmpht

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Oh Raena, sounds like we need to do lots of purrayin’ t’ween now and then. Well, did your ‘pointment go better at least?

Oh Yes, sissy. Mine’s ‘pointment went purrfectly ifin ya’ ask me. Seems they had told mommy to just pop in since she didn’t know how long we’d be at the dentist, so we didn’t have an actual ‘pointment time. so, when they closed cuz of the weather, they didn’t call us and cancel. I’s didn’t have to see the V E T at all!!! WooHoooooo (Raena does the happy dance) By that time, it must’ve been a hunnerd below zero out cuz that wasn’t rain hittin’ the car, it was ice!!! Mommy needed some bandages fur her leg and awnty Cindy had sent mommy some green papers to get ‘em so we rushed to Wallyworld to get some and then home. No treats, no bacon cheeseburger, no nuffin’…just home. Mommy did pawlogize tho’. She said next time, that she was so tired and didn’t wanna take any chances with mine’s life and that we needed to get home befur it got any worse. I’s guess I’s can furgive her. I’s much purrfur mommy’s luvvin’ arms to bacon cheeseburgers any day.

Dezi licks paw while laying on heated cat mat

Yeah, me too Raena. Did you know yesfurday was show your pet some luv day, and we missed it?

Raena lays on the liberty cat tree

Really sissy? Ya’ know what? I’s don’t think we missed it at all. Mommy luvs us so much and not only says it all the time, but she shows us too. I’s don’t think we need a day fur us. I’s would much rather get good luvvins all the time than to have to wait fur a special day.

Yep, me too Raena. Hey, did you hear that our sweet furiends Valentine and Princess Erin also have Blogoversaries this month?

I’s seem to ‘member you meowin’ somethin’ ‘bout that last night sissy.

Dezi sits pretty in front of door

Well, while you and mommy were out gallavantin’ in the storms and ice, me made plans with them to have a pawrty this Sunday. We hope everypawdy will stop by. It’s gonna be fun, fun, fun, and nopawdy’s gonna take the t-bird away. MOL Sometimes me’s so funny me cracks me’s self up.

Sleet in our yardThat’s the ice fallin’ right now.

But sissy, we don’t have a t-bird…do we?

Xxxxxxx-zactly!!! Nopawdy can take what ya’ don’t have. It’s rainin’ ice again. Me’s gonna go take a nap.

Raena lays on heated cat mat

I’s right behind ya’ sissy. What are we gonna do fur the pawrty? I’s gonna have to dream on it…
