I Would Like To Place An Order

Meowllo everypawdy, me hopes you’re all rested up and ready fur a tale. You know me was tryin’ to think of somethin’ to get mommy fur Mother’s Day and thought orderin’ me and her a new helper would be a great gift; so me set out to figger out how to do just dat. Me had mommy call on over to da shelter in da “little city” ‘round here, and voila’, they had girly kitties. Well, me told mommy to get it together and let’s go look see.

Dezi cocks head to the side in thought
Me has a story fur you today

So yesfurday mommy gathered up some bagged kibble so we could donate it. You know, we don’t eat kibble in our house, but we had some from when mommy was tryin’ to help sis Lexi gain weight. ‘Pawrently kibble is really fattening. Anyways, me’s getting’ off track here. Mommy gathered up da donation stuffs and off we went. Shelters and rescues can always use donations, and it doesn’t always have to be money. Anyways, off we went. And let me tell you, with all da rain and storms we’s been getting’ lately it was hot. We found out last year da compressor of some sort is out in da car and so da air conditioner doesn’t work. And mommy’s ‘lectric window broke so it doesn’t roll down. Me wants to know what happened to da old fashioned hand crank windows? Cars shouldn’t be run by ‘lectronics and catputers. We all know how reliable they are. Anyways, me’s getting’ off track again; off we went.

Dezi bright eyed looking out of stroller

We finally arrived and mommy got somepawdy to help her take in da donation stuffs. Then we were off to visit da kitties. Hmmmmmm Mommy, where’s da girlys?

No mommy, don’t stop, those are all boys.

Hey, buff boy, hush, me ordered up a sisfur. Over here mommy, me thinks da girlys are this way.

Mommy, quit cooin’ at dat buff boy and head this way.

(walks over to a small stand alone cage) Meowllo girlys, time to purr on da charm. You ladies need to look your bestest, me’s here to get a new sisfur and one of ya’ just might be her.

Here, mommy take this one out. She’s mewin’ meowllo to ya’.

Aaaaaaaw She’s really sweet isn’t she mommy?

Dezi's profile in stroller

Yes she is Dezi, but I think she just wants out of the cage. That doesn’t necessarily mean she wants to come home with us. (puts her back in the cage)

Mommy, we need to take all da girly’s to a room. Yep, dat’s ‘xactly what we need to do.

Um, where are we goin? No mommy, da boys were in here. Yep, there’s dat little buff boy again.

Put your paws back in dat cage buff boy.

Mommy, where are you goin’? He does dat to everypawdy. Didn’t you see him doin’ it to da peeps in here befur us?

Uh….Just put him back mommy, me ordered a sisfur not a stinky brofur. Just smell him, he’s got…well, it’s boy stink, mommy. Put him back.

Hey, buff boy, quit kissin’ me’s mommy. What are you doin’ now? Hey, don’t nuzzle me’s mommy’s ears. Dat’s me’s job.

Alright mommy, dat’s quite enough. Put him down.

Lookit, here’s a little girly and she’s goin’ nutso tryin’ to reach ya’. She’s purractically yellin’ your name.

Hey, girly, ya’ might not wanna throw yourself against da cage like dat, mommy might think you’re a little too wild.  And besides, you could hurt yourself. (mommy puts the buff boy back in his cage)

Dat’s it mommy, this little girly really likes us. Meow. she’s purractically jumpin’ in your arms. Hey, girly, calm down.

Oh look mommy, she likes to ride on your shoulders like me does.

Hey girly, don’t you be growlin’ at me’s mommy. What are you thinkin’? And dat hissin’ is really uncalled fur. Okay mommy, put her back.

Where are we goin’? She ain’t da one mommy, didn’t you hear her growlin’ at ya’?

Oh lookit, she can walk on a leash. Whoopee, like dat’s a big deal. There she goes, growlin’ again.

Mommy, they just can’t fill me’s order. It’s time to go. No mommy you don’t need to hold da buff boy again, c’mon, let’s just go home. Me’s tired and so are you.

Dezi rests on the Liberty Cat Tree.

Well, da search is still on. There are fur sure some really cute kitties at da shelter, but none of them fit da bill. Or rather, would be a fit fur our house and needs. But we thought you might enjoy hearin’ a trip to da shelter from da resident cat’s purrspective. Mommy didn’t actually take me to da shelter with her, but she knows me really well. When she got home she was indeed exhausted and smelled of shelter stench but told me all ’bout it.

Luckily da shelter peeps were friendly, this has not always been da case with dat shelter. Most of da kitties looked fairly healthy; again, not something dat’s always da case. This shelter doesn’t have any VETs on staff and doesn’t treat or test fur illnesses. It’s kind of a survival of da fittest atmosphere. Mommy didn’t take fotos, cuz she didn’t initially know what she would be walking in to and unfurtunately all da litter boxes were full and everykitty had a bad case of da runs; includin’ da adults. Mommy cleaned a few da bestest she could while she was there, but mostly they just laid in it. It’s very sad and made mommy cry…a lot.

Anyways, join me tomorrow fur somethin’ really special, and member me talked ‘bout havin’ a give away? Well Canadians and Americans get ready, and purrlease stop by. Me thinks you’re gonna like it.

Do you donate to shelters or rescues when you can?

How do you feel about your local shelters?

Does Your shelter work to keep the animals healthy?

Spring Got Kidnapped

Meowllo everypawdy, and miserable Monday too. And me oh my it does look miserable outside. You know it’s May now and we needed da ‘lectric blanky last night. Mommy has already put it up till next winter tho’ so we did a lot of cuddlin’ and snugglin’ to keep warm. We just can’t believe this weather we’re havin’. Course we know it’s bein’ strange all over. Several of ya’ recently got snow. Me really thinks sumpawdy done went and kidnapped Spring.

Dezi sits on floor looking sad
See me’s ears? They’re lissenin’ fur those thunder boomers.

Mommy says me’s bein’ silly; but she doesn’t have to spend all day hunched over and hidin’ behind da chair. Okay, me knows me doesn’t either, but c’mon, those thunder boomers are loud and scary. Me thinks a lot of you would be joinin’ me behind da chair. Anyways, enough ‘bout da weather and da back of da chair fur today. Notice me said today? MOL

We had a couple peeps ask fur updates on Buddy and his new food. You know mr. W ordered a new bag last month, but not befur complainin’ ‘bout da price. Mommy hushed him real quick when she told him what she spends to feed just me. See, he makes quite a bit of money, he just doesn’t like spendin’ it on anypawdy but himself. Anyways, mommy asked him ifin he was ready to order some more, and he started hem hawin’ ‘round ‘bout how Buddy’s been throwin’ up and all. Trust me, dat’s a lie, cuz ifin Buddy had been throwin’ up, we woulda heard ‘bout it befur now. And fur those of ya’ wonderin’ why mommy’s doin’ da orderin’, it’s cuz mr. W doesn’t have a catputer and doesn’t wanna pay shipping and so we add it to our auto ship. But yes, mommy makes him pay fur Buddy’s food.

Buddy licking lips

Now me has to put me’s thinkin’ cap on and come up with somethin’ fur mommy fur Mother’s day; it’s this Sunday you know.  Me’s never been alone fur a celebrate mommy day, so me has no idea what to do. Sis Lexi always came up with da plans. Me sure hopes me has some help befur mommy’s birthday at da end of da month. Me has to have sumkitty to blame ifin me makes a mess. Like da time me left da can of coke under da wheels of da wheelchair. Or da crackers dat ended up in da bed where mommy rolled on them. You know sis Lexi always blamed me, so now it’s me’s turn to blame sum other kitty. Hmmmmmm maybe me can order a new helper. Does anypawdy know where to do dat?

Dezi sprawled out on the floor tummy up
Yep, me’s thinkin’ really hard. MOL

You know mommy blames our lateness on me since me’s da only one helpin’ her and all; but let me tell ya’, all this rain and cold means dat mommy’s movin’ slower too. In fact this very meownin’ me was dancin’ ‘round and tellin’ mommy dat she was gonna pass out and do you know what she did? She reached fur da camera. Yep dat’s right, she went right fur da camera. Me’s tellin’ her to sit down and take it easy so she doesn’t come crashin’ to da ground, and she thinks it’s a great time fur a foto shoot. Well me didn’t oblige, me sat right down and stared at her. She was finally forced to sit down befur she started seein’ stars and all fank catness. Me’s sure me can’t pick her up off da floor by meself. Not dat dat’s somethin’ we ever did, but just sayin’, me ain’t dat big. Me has to go rest up now. You never know what mommy might try to do these days, and me needs to be rested and ready. Any ideas fur mother’s day would be purreciated.

Maybe instead of stars, mommy sees somethin’ like this.

Do you get your human a Mother’s day gift?

Is it a gift fur you or fur her/him?

Today is da start of National Pet Week. Like me said, May is full of celebrations and events. We wanna thank you all fur your patience and unnerstandin’. Sis Lexi’s birthday was really hard on mommy, and we spent da weekend luvvin’ extra and lookin’ at old fotos.

Dezi in an oval royal velvet frame close up

Mommy and me were able to go out fur a nice stroll on Furiday. With all da recent storms, da few flowers round here have taken quite a beatin’. But there was one rose bush dat seemed to be bloomin’ in honor of sissy, so we had to stop and take a foto while literally smellin’ da roses. As we did our reminiscing this weekend, we thought about how blest we are. You know as much as we miss sis Lexi we are so grateful she is no longer in pain. And mommy is thankful fur all da wonderful years she shared with her. And we are so very grateful fur all of you. Because of you, sissy’s last years were full of fun, adventure and extra luv. Her legacy will live on.

Dezi in stroller smelling the roses

We have lots of good things comin’ up fur you this month, so stay tuned. We even have a give away or two. Ifin we just take da time, we can see how blest we all are. You know we’s had lots of storms lately, and there’s more in da furcast, but through all of them we’s been safe. Me may hide out behind da chair, but me’s safe inside with mommy. Ifin you’re lookin’ after ferals, purrlease keep your storm season in mind. There are lots of shelters you can purrvide at little cost. Certainly you want to purrvide shelter in da winter, but sometimes peeps furget about storm season. It can be just as dangerous. Dat link will take you to an image search with tons of DIY links. Share your blessings with those in need. And as always, mommy and me thank those of you who work with ferals day in and day out without any notice or gratitude. We see you, and da ferals whose lives you enhance see you.

 Dezi in purple splendor

Well me’s been a little scattered today; me is just so thankful fur all da blessings in me’s life. Take a moment each day to say thank you fur your blessings. Remember, ifin you’re here to take dat moment, you are blest. Me has to go and get some cuddles in befur da storm hits. Me’s also joinin’ da Kitties Blue fur Selfie Sunday. Paw on over and check it out.

The Nasty Hackys: Hairball Prevention

Meowllo everypawdy, today is National Hairball Awareness Day. Ifin you have a cat, you no doubt know when kitty has a hairball. Mommy says almost all kitty luvvers know da sound of a hairball comin’ up; we call it da nasty hackys. And of course we kitties are so careful to place them fur maximum effect. While you sleep we may place one in your slippers or da path you take furst thing in da meownin’ when you still have sleepy eyes. Where ever we put them, we’re telling you somethin’. We’re telling you dat we need some help cuz our furs are sheddin’ like mad. Mommy says watchin’ me hack up a hairball is pawful and she’s never seen anythin’ like it befur. She says me’s face says me is terrified and me convulses till da hairball comes up as a purrjectile and lands across da room. Let me tell ya’, me may not know what me’s face looks like, but me can tell ya’ dat is some scary stuffs. Me doesn’t like doin’ it not one bit. (don’t worry, we’re not showing fotos)

Dezi grooming on the cat tree

Most cat pawrents just accept hairballs as one of the unpleasant things dat goes along with luvvin’ and sharin’ your home with a cat. And truth is, most hairballs move through our system just fine and either become da nasty hackys or go out da other end. But in rare instances hairballs can cause a life threatening blockage. Ifin you notice kitty exhibiting any of da following symptoms, purrlease take kitty to da VET. Always better safe than sorry.

  • Ongoing vomiting, gagging, retching, or convulsing without purrducing anything

  • Lack of appetite

  • Lethargy

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhea

Thing is, me gets very few hairballs. And trust me, me’s very glad ‘bout dat. Sis Lexi used to get them almost daily, even when she was young and healthy. Mommy says in all da years she’s dealt with kitties, da short haired kitties seemed to have more hairballs than da long. Seems a little backwards, but it is what it is. So how can you humans help us with those nasty hairballs? Well Wellness purrvided us with this great infographic with some pawsum suggestions.

Brushing always helps get out some of da loose dead fur dat would otherwise end up in our tummies and eventually in a wet slimy pile somewhere inconvenient fur you. Now me knows dat not all kitties enjoy bein’ brushed. Me is just one of those kitties. Fank da cats me’s fur doesn’t mat or me would be in trouble. But there’s a product out there dat your grooming challenged kitty will like; you just have to keep trying. Me luvs da grooming glove especially well. Now it won’t get out mats, but ifin you’re using it regularly, mats shouldn’t form. There are many other grooming brushes, combs and helpers out there, so keep trying, you’ll eventually find kitty’s sweet spot. Mommy says she’s even gone so far as to use a moist paper towel or microfiber cloth. Again, those won’t take out mats, but ifin used regularly they should take enough of da dead furs out so dat hairballs don’t form. As cats, we naturally groom ourselves. Ifin you notice kitty seems a little OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) about it, try to discourage this behavior. Ifin neccessary, see your VET; kitty may have other health issues dat need to be addressed.

There are treats, and pastes, and foods to help with hairball control as well. Wellness has just one of those foods. They’ve been busy creating a new formula dat be good fur kitty and helps with those nasty hackys. It includes deboned chicken and turkey as well as vitamins and minerals to support skin and coat health. And a precise blend of natural fibers to help move those hairballs thru da digestive tract. This formula touts supporting whole body health and well being. At this time it appears to only come in kibble form. It’s available in 3 sizes and runs from about $12.00 to $34.00. As you know we don’t eat kibble here, but this could make a helpful treat.

Me has to go get some brushin’ and play in now. You know, gotta keep those hairballs at bay. Me’s joinin’ Rascal and Rocco fur da weekly Pet Parade.

Today would have been sis Lexi’s 17th birthday. It’s hittin’ mommy purretty hard. We’re also havin’ some storms, so we’ll be ’round to visit soon, but purrobably not today. But we would like fur you to ‘member sissy today and smile. She brought so much luv and happiness to mommy, me and so many of you, and she deserves to be remembered.

Happy Birthday to angel Lexi in a heavenly frame with wings
