Last week we started a mini-series on Kitten/Cat Proofing your home. Most of these tips are also good for puppy/dog proofing as well. You can read Pt. 1 here. Cats are curious by nature, and that can spell trouble if we get into something we’re not supposed too. Like two legged children, we rely on you, our human to make sure our home and surroundings are safe for us. We started inside the house since we think it’s important for kitties to live inside. It’s just too dangerous for kitty to be outside roaming the streets.

The Bathroom and Laundry room:

Let’s take a look at the safety issues in the Bathroom/Laundry room. Now, we know that not all laundry rooms are in the bathroom, but clumping them together just seems natural. After all what other 2 rooms are designed for cleaning something dirty? Anyways, whether you have a vanity or just a sink, be prepared to find kitty lounging about the porcelain on those really hot days of summer. Mommy prefers cleaning with steam, but she also makes a homemade all purpose cleaner using 1/2 cup of Vinegar, 1 Tbsp. of Dawn dish detergent and water in a 16 oz. spray bottle. Mommy’s also used this same concoction to mop the floors, clean mirrors and windows. It’s a great all natural and safe cleaner. If you use bleach or other harsh chemicals for cleaning, be sure to store them out of kitty’s reach and rinse all surfaces thoroughly after cleaning. Remember, kitty will walk across most surfaces and then lick their paws.

Keep the toilet seat down, especially if you have or plan on adopting small kittens. Did you know one can actually drown in as little as 1 inch of water? So please keep that toilet seat in the downward position. We don’t recommend using those leave in toilet bowl cleaners just in case you or perhaps company forgets and leaves the toilet seat up. Accidents happen and it only takes one time to turn your life upside down.

Most laundry rooms have a small shelf up high for storing dangerous chemicals. Always keep washing machine and dryer doors closed and check and double check before turning them on. It’s a good idea to have a vent cover over the dryer exhaust vent outside to keep small animals and cats from trying to crawl in that way. If you don’t have a dryer but have the vent, it should be covered from the inside too. The exhaust vent isn’t meant to be a kitty/doggy door.

You should also store human soaps, shampoos and conditioners closed and out of kitty’s reach. Altho’ most of these won’t kill kitty, they could result in sickness or other long term health diseases. If you’re a bath taker, never leave kitty/woofy unattended with a full tub of water. Do Not use human bubble baths, bath oils or bombs when bathing kitty/doggy. Please be careful when using products like hair spray, deodorants, perfumes, hair dyes, lotions, toothpaste and other hygiene and grooming products. Never use them directly on kitty/woofy and be careful they don’t get caught in 2nd hand sprays or applications. Only use toothpastes and shampoos specifically made for kitty/woofy.

Raena lays on shower bench

The bathroom probably has the fewest electric outlets and the most hanging cords in the house. Blow dryers, curling/straight irons, shavers, toothbrushes, and other small appliances can all be shock hazards. Make sure all cords are properly stored and unplugged. Remember, kittens get into everything, and even older cats are curious about new surroundings and things. Keep trash cans covered or under the sink if possible. Bathrooms that come with windows, usually have very small ones, none the less, keep them closed or at least keep an eye on kitty so he/she doesn’t try to get out of it or fall out by accident.

One last thing before we leave the bathroom as we have personal experience with this one. Any over the toilet storage/shelving units should be anchored to the wall or have a sturdy base that allows it to be a stand alone product. Choose non glass items to display on the shelves. You never know when kitty’s curiosity might get the best of him/her and the unit including all it’s contents come crashing to the floor.

Raena close up of eyes-blooper

Can you believe it? Mommy cut half mine’s face off and

got all that goopy stuff in mine’s eyes. Just one of the many bloopers we have.

Well, fur the smallest rooms in the house, they sure do have a lot of dangers. MOL Anyways, we’ve got just a few more rooms befur we’re finished. So, get your questions and topic suggestions in now. And don’t furget, you can ketch un on any post on this series by clickin’ the links on our Training Tips and Everything Feline page from the menu above. We’re gonna be joinin’ Comedy Plus fur Feline Furiday and the Cuddlywumps fur Pet Photo Fails and Bloopers. And do we ever have bloopers. ‘Course, we wouldn’t x’pect anythin’ else with mommy behind the camera. MOL  We plan on sleepin’ soon and we’re not settin’ any alarms. So, we’ll be ‘round to visit just as soon as we can.

Chatting Cats: Celebrating Furevers And Leaving The Cage Behind

Hey everypawdy, it’s me, RaenaBelle. How are ya’ll doin’? It’s furinally here, the day mommy said we could celebrate mine’s Gotcha Day. Mommy came and rescued me from a cage in a smelly house 2 years ago on June 8th. I’s was a scared little kitten, shakin’ all over with lots of gunk in mine’s eyes and nose. Mommy says she could feel the tension in mine’s body when the lady handed me to her. Mommy says contrary to mine’s breed, there wasn’t anythin’ floppy ‘bout me. I’s was shaky and stiff as a board. Mommy says her heart broke fur me and mine’s littermates cuz she couldn’t ‘magine what could make such a young kitty be that scared and I’s wasn’t tellin’.

RaenaBelle bunny kicks a chicken leg

I’s ‘member the exact minute all that tension left and I’s furinally quit shakin’ and flopped like a purr-opurr Ragdoll. Yep, mommy carried me outside of that place and sat me in her lap. I’s could feel us movin’ but I’s had never been in a car befur, so I’s didn’t unnerstand what was happenin’. And then, mommy picked up mine’s stiff little body, held me close and looked into mine’s gunky blue eyes and said she was gonna luvs me furever and ever and that I’s was gonna live with her. She said I’s would never have to be ‘fraid again and then she kissed me and held me close to her heart. I’s could feel her heart beatin’ and just knew she meant it. That’s the minute mine’s life was furever changed fur the better. And, I’s never looked back.

Raena hanging on the Liberty cat tree playing whacky paw with Dezi

Oh c’mon now, you’ve been here fur a couple of weeks

now, are you ever gonna stop?

Me ‘members that day too Raena. Kittens!!! ‘Pawrently, you’d never seen a toy or cat tree or bed or anythin’ else. You were like a tornado runnin’ and jumpin’ all over the house. It’s like you didn’t know what to play with furst.

Raena plays with the flying toy
I’s gonna ketch it this time sissy.

I’s didn’t sissy. I’s couldn’t believe how blest you were. I’s didn’t know a kitty could have so much pawsum stuffs. All I’s had ever known was a cage with a pawtty box in it. And mine’s littermates of course, but they’d never seen any toys either. What a life we have. And then you and mommy told me that I’s had awnties and uncles and lots and lots of furiends who already luvved me. It was almost too good to be true. I’s was ‘fraid to go to sleep that furst night. I’s thought I’s might wake up and find that it had all been a dream.

Dezi lays on scratcher yawning

Nope Raena, it wasn’t no dream, it’s been me’s nightmare. MOL  Me’s just kiddin’. You’re alright fur a bratty li’l sisfur. Me sometimes wonders ifin sis Lexi thought ‘bout me that way. Anyways, me saw our furiend Valentine from Noir Kitty Mews hopped in his stroller and headed to our house to join in the celebration.

Raena's Gotchaday card from Pipo and Dalton

Did you see the cutesy smilebox card he made fur me, sissy? Pipo and Dalton made me a card too. I’s so blest to have such amazin’ furiends. Fanky fank you all. Ya’ know, this month is almost over and with it goes Cat Adoption Month. But we think every month is Cat Adoption Month as well as every day. There are so many kitties out there that need savin’. Shelters and Rescues are almost always full to overflowin’ with amazin’ kitties just waitin’ fur their furever to show up and tell them they are luvved and will never have to be ‘fraid again. Maybe you’re not ready to adopt a new kitty, but you can still help. Ya’ know fosterin’ is a great way fur kitties to find their furevers, ‘specially ifin they’re one of the fraidy cats that doesn’t do well in cages.

Dezi lays stretched out on scratcher

That’s true Raena. But peeps can also donate their time to volunteer. Ya’ know they could go and play with the kitties and luv on ‘em and help socialize ‘em. And shelters and rescues are always in need of supplies like foods, towels, litter, cleaners and all kinds of things. All one has to do is check with their local shelter or rescue and see what they might need at the moment. Easy peasy, it is. Every so offen mommy sacks up some of our old toys and foods that we get and don’t eat and we donate to those kitties less furtunate. And, mommy sometimes drives ‘round lookin’ fur signs of stray kitties who might be hungry. Ya’ don’t have to be rich to help, everypawdy can help in some way.

Raena lays sleeping on mommy's lap

Mine’s favorite place in the whole wide universe is mommy’s lap.

Oh sissy, those are all great ideas. Ya’ know what would make mine’s celebration even more pawsum? Knowin’ that we helped to make some kitty’s dream of a furever come true. Fanky fank you all fur celebratin’ with me. Why don’t you take a minute today to see what it is that you might could do fur the less furtunate kitties in your area. Now, let’s go eat some pizza and play with the nip toys. I’s even told mommy to pull out the silvervine.

Wee Wee Piddle Puddles #ChewyInfluencer

MeOW Welcome furiends, Dezi here, me needs to clear a few things up fur ya’.

Raena lays on the liberty cat tree looking off into space

Raena: Sissy? What are you doin’? Today’s mine’s day to take the lead. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are all mine’s…mommy said so.

Well Raena, you should’a thought ‘bout that when you spent all day makin’ fun of me the other day. This is me’s bloggy what has me’s name on it. Any time you get is just cuz me’s let’s ya’.

Uh uh sissy. Mommy says we have to share everythin’. That means the bloggy’s as much mine’s as it is yours. I’s tellin’ mommy you’re takin’ mine’s day.

Dezi lays on the arm of the chair, Selfie

Go right ahead Raena, who do you think told me that me could meow today and clear things up?.

(Raena shakes her head) That’s not right, just not right at all. I’s only meowed the truth.

Dezi lays on scratcher posing with the wee wee piddle pads

Anyways…You meowed on ‘bout me not usin’ the pawtty box the other day and makin’ it sound like me’s just peein’ all over the house. Furst of all, that’s just not true. But, any time kitty doesn’t use the pawtty box shouldn’t be seen as spiteful. ‘Stead, you should check everythin’ and find out why. In the meantime, havin’ a good piddle pad on hand can make everypawdy a little happier and clean up much easier. So, when we saw piddle pads on the Chewy list of items to try out this month, mommy jumped on ‘em. We got the 8 pack Wee-Wee Gigantic Pads 27.5 X 44.

Raena stands on liberty cat tree posing with the wee wee piddle pads

I’s could’a meowed ‘bout these too sissy. I’s getting’ to use ‘em too.

You’re not usin’ ‘em the way they were intended Raena. Anyways, let’s see what Chewy has to say ‘bout ‘em furst.

Description

Gigantic Wee-Wee Pads are 14% larger and more absorbent than the average housebreaking pad. Perfect for BIG dogs and multi-dog households! Made with leak proof Floor Armor system, the special quilted top locks in moisture and neutralize odors while the leak proof liner protects floors and carpets.

Key Benefits

  • Built-in attractant draws dog to pad

  • Uses 5-ply leak-proof Floor Armor system with 100% leak-proof guarantee

  • Heavy-duty leak-proof liner protects floor and carpets

  • Super-absorbent quilted core provides maximum absorption, and quick-drying top layer prevents tracking

  • Measures: 27.5 x 44 inches making it ideal for large dogs

Let me start by meowin’ that piddle pads can be used fur lots more anipals and things than just pawtty trainin’ woofies. Mommy was really impurressed with the size of these pads. One pad can almost cover the length of our hallway. Me’s not sure ifin that makes a great piddle pad or just says our hallway’s too small; but, sure ‘nuff, one pad can purretty much cover it. There’s 5 ply’s of quilted padding, so they can hold quite a bit without leakin’. Since we’re not woofies, we can’t meow ‘bout the attractant pawrt, but we were both drawn in to check ‘em out. Me even piddled a little on one end. The piddle pad soaked it right up and dried purretty quickly. ‘Course, that made mommy really happy. No pee runnin’ onto the floor or wet spots to step in. Me also noticed that the amonia smell kind’a disappeared when it dried. Also a good thing. Cat urine can smell purretty toxic, so anytime you can hide the smell is a good thing.

Raena stands on cat tree looking at wee wee piddle pads

Ooooh Look’it, a new slide.

They make great slides and skateboards too, sissy. I’s could ride that thing all the way to the front door. (Raena runs and jumps on the piddle pad and slides down the hallway to the front door) Wheeeeeeeee Here we go!!!

RaenaBelle Mayce!!! Quit playin’ on the piddle pads.

But sissy, they’re so much fun. I’s give ‘em 4 paws up fur sure.

Wee Wee piddle pad on top of regular piddle pad
Wee Wee pad on top of average store brand piddle pad.

Good fur you Raena. Me would also give them 4 paws up. As me meowed earlier, piddle pads have lots of uses besides just bein’ a pawtty trainin’ tool fur woofies. They can be placed outside of the litter box to ketch any overflow caused by high peein’ kitties. A phenomenon known as helicopter butt. ‘Course, we don’t have that purroblem here. Anyways, we’ve also heard some of our furiends sayin’ they tape them on the walls ‘round kitty’s pawtty box fur those kitties that stand to pee in pawtty boxes without lids. The Wee-Wee company makes several different options and sizes to choose from includin’ odor control. The ones we got don’t say anythin’ ‘bout controlin’ the odor, but as me meowed earlier, the smell did seem to disappear once the piddle spot was dry. They range in purrice from $5.37 to $41.99. And of course, you can always put ‘em on an auto delivery option and save an additional 5%.

Wee Wee piddle pad on floor

The Wee Wee pad is extra long and has 5 ply padding.

We luvs Chewy’s auto ship purrogram, don’t we sissy? It means we never run out of our noms and other favorites. Well, so long as mommy has money to pay fur it. Anyways, you can always make changes, add to or take away items, skip, cancel or delay any shipment up to 24 hours befur it ships. And you’ll always get a great toy outta the box your goodies come in. The Chewy customer Service peeps are the nicest agents we kitties have ever meowed with.

Dezi sits on a Chewy box

So true Raena. Anyways, mommy gave the gigantic Wee-Wee piddle pads a thumb up. She was really impurressed with the size and durability of these pads. Mommy said based on the purrice, we paid ‘bout .70¢ purr pad. She thinks that’s a bit high, but she says unfurtunately, these items seem to be a little overpurriced no matter where ya’ get ‘em. So, all in all, these piddle pads were a hit at our place. Ifin ya’ haven’t checked out Chewy’s website lately, ya’ might wanna head on over and look at all the new stuffs goin’ on. They’ve added a lot more purroducts includin’ things fur all the furred, feathered, finned, and scaled anipals in your life. They even have some goodies fur the peeps. There’s always speedy furee shippin’ on all orders $49.00 and up and a low flat rate shippin’ on all other orders.

Raena sitting at her box while giving an angry look

Don’t furget to let everypawdy know they can see other items reviewed this month by checkin’ out the Chewy blog hop, sissy.

This is a sponsored post. We received the Wee Wee piddle pads in exchange for our honest opinion. As always, we tell it like we see it and don’t leave anything out. Neither Chewy or Wee Wee are responsible for the opinions in this post unless otherwise stated. We only bring products we use or have tried and feel would be of interest to you, our friends and readers.

Blest Sunday: Getting By In The Heat

MeOW  RaenaBelle, hurry up, it’s Blest Sunday. What are you doin’ anyways? You know it’s time to count our Blessings, so get the lead out!!!

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

Raena: Sheesh sissy, chill out. What’s gotten into you? And what’s lead and where is it? I’s don’t have any lead, I’s all fur and goodness.

Dezi bowed head selfie

Yeah, sure you are, Raena. Get the lead out is just another one of those silly human x’pressions that’s s’posed to mean hurry up.

Raena lays on the liberty cat tree

So in other words, you just meowed hurry up twice? Like I’s didn’t hear ya’ the furst time. Anyways, what’s up with you; Peein’ everywhere but the pawtty box? Furst you started hollerin’ fur mommy to come carry ya’ to the pawtty box and then ya’ just started peein’ where ya’ stand? I’s mean, really? It’s not very ladycat like, ya’ know?. Have you furgotten that we’re like extra clean and super duper smart? Not to mention, gawjus?

Why don’t you quit tellin’ tales on me and worry ‘bout yourself. Here it is summer time and ‘stead of hangin’ out and watchin’ purrime time on nature teevee from your purrch, you’re sleepin’ the day away in the pawtty box room. Who does that?

Well sissy, the sink in there’s nice and cool. And it’s been really hot ‘round here lately.

Dezi looks at camera selfie

You’re right ‘bout that, Raena. We’ve definitely had the hots this past week. Mommy says it’s only gonna get hotter, so me guesses we better get used to it. ‘Course, that brings me to the furst Blessin’ me’s grateful fur this week, air conditioning. We don’t have to try to find a cool spot, the whole house is a cool spot.

Raena lays on the liberty cat tree

That’s so true sissy. And we’ve got purrlenty to eat, and a mommy who luvs us unconditionally. We sure are Blest kitties. I’s mean, did you see all the noms we got? ‘Pawrently there was a sale, so mommy stocked up on one of our faves, Primal freeze dried rabbit.

Yep Raena, me saw it. And, she just ordered 2 big o’le bags of litter. She says it was on sale fur half purrice.

That’s great sissy, but maybe ‘stead of buyin’ litter, she should’a stocked up on piddle pads.

Dezi with lowered head and flat ears selfie

Well Raena, maybe me’s peein’ outside of the pawtty box has somethin’ to do with that stinky purrfumed clay litter we tried out last month. Mommy plans on throwin’ it out when our new litter gets here.

What x’cuse are ya’ gonna use then sissy? Ya’ know, when you still pee on the floor?

Why don’t you not worry ‘bout it Raena. Hmmmpht  Besides, me used the piddle pad, not the floor. So, what’s the furst Blessing you wanna count this week?

Raena lays on the liberty cat tree looking off into space

Well sissy, like always, I’s wanna give fanky fanks fur all our amazin’ furiends. Last week we posted a give away and asked our furiends to nominate their favorite shelters to receive a Cat Amazing Shelter Kit of their own. Fanky fank you all fur your nominations. We put all the names into Random Picker and asked it to choose a winner. The lucky shelter that will be receiving an amazin’ purrize is Safe Haven for Cats in Raleigh North Carolina. We hope they enjoy their Cat Amazing as much as we do. We have the most wonderful and generous furiends in the universe. I’s can’t ‘magine life without ‘em, can you?

Yeah Raena, Furiends are always a great Blessing, and you’re right, ours are the greatest. Every day we ask God to Bless them and their families.

Ya’ know sissy, I’s been thinkin’…

Dezi lays on arm of chair and looks down

Oh No Raena, don’t let your head explode. When you start thinkin’, somehow, we always seem to get into trouble. What do ya’ say we do less thinkin’ and take a nice afternoon nap?. Maybe we can play when it cools off some. Me seems to ‘member we got a new toy this week. Mommy hasn’t takin’ it outta the box yet, but it’s s’posed to be guaranteed to appeal to our sense of kitty adventure.

Raena lays on the liberty cat tree-profile selfie

Really sissy? Then how can you take a nap, knowin’ we have a new toy that we haven’t even seen yet? Where is it? I’s wanna see the new toy now!!! You can nap ifin ya’ want, but I’s gonna go have a little chat with mommy.

You do that Raena. In the meantime, we’d like to remind everypawdy to take a minute today and every day to give Thanks fur the Blessings in your lives. Fank you all fur bein’ such amazin’ furiends. We luv ya’ll bunches and bunches.
