Dezi:  MeOW  C’mon RaenaBelle, it’s time fur our Blest Sunday posty. (Dezi looks around but doesn’t see Raena) Raena, where are you? C’mon, we don’t have all day.

          Raena:  ‘Course we do sissy, it’s not like we have a schedule we have to keep. It’s our bloggy, so we can make or break any of the rules we want too.

Dezi:  So you wanna be known as Raena the rule breaker? 

 

          Raena:  No sissy, but where are these rules you’re meowin’ ‘bout?

Dezi:  They’re unwritten rules Raena. The sooner we get our post posted, the sooner we can start visitin’ furiends. 

 

          Raena:  Hmmmmpht  Like mommy’s gonna let us on the catputer with it stormin’ outside. Did you see all those puddles? It’s been rainin’ so hard we’ve actually got flood puddles. It’s amazin’ to me how we can go from desperately needin’ the rain to flooded over night. 

 

Dezi:  Yeah Raena, that’s true. Y, just a couple weeks ago we were unner a burn ban, and now you couldn’t find a dry piece of wood to even start a fire.

          Raena:  Like you’d even know how to start a fire sissy. 

 

Dezi:  Shows what you know Raena. Me’s a cat scout. Me knows all ‘bout fires and campin’ and all kinds of other ‘purrtant things.

          Raena:  Yeah, sure sissy, whatever you meow. Anyways, I’s thought we were gonna count our Blessings. I’s countin’ mine’s mommy and me cuddle time. I’s so luvs cuddlin’ with mommy. And with all the storms this week, I’s had extra cuddle time. How ‘bout you?  

 

Dezi:  Yep Raena, me luvs cuddle time with mommy too. And, t’ween storms, me got some extras this week. Ya’ know, me was thinkin’ ‘bout all our furiends and those who have left us recently. We really miss them, but we were so Blest to have known them in the furst place. You know how mommy’s always sayin’, we’re never purromissed tomorrow, so you should never wait to express your feelings to those you luv.

          Raena:  That’s why mommy’s always tellin’ us how much she luvs us, isn’t it sissy?. Sometimes when I’s layin’ all curled up in mommy’s lap and she thinks I’s sleepin’, I’s can hear her fanky fankin’ God fur me and sayin’ how much she luvs me and needs me. Sometimes she even gets the leaky eyes. I’s can feel them when they fall on mine’s furs and she gently wipes them away. I’s don’t know why she’d cry like that. I’s never leavin’ mommy.

Dezi:  Me thinks those are the happy tears Raena. You know, the kind humans get when they’re so overcome with luv and joy? Me’s heard mommy say the same things ‘bout me and sis Lexi befur you. We are very Blest to have a mommy who luvs us so much. We’re Blest to have such amazin’ furiends. We wish they never had to be sick or leave us and go to heaven. It makes us so sad and our hearts hurt. But, we cherish each moment we have with all of you. 

 

          Raena:  You can meow that again sissy. Mommy says the sads of loss are just another pawrt of luvs. And luvs be the greatest Blessing we can have. Well, besides mommy, our furiends, our home, our noms, our toys, our…

 

Dezi:  Alright Raena, we get the point. Let’s wrap this up and go get some of those extra cuddles from mommy. As we do each week, we’d like to remind you all to take a minute today and every day to Give Thanks fur the Blessings in your lives. And let the special ones in your life know how ya’ feel. Thank you fur bein’ Blessings in ours.

The following post will be written in human English for reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Training Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy A thru her many years of animal training, cats in purr-ticular. And to offer insight into your questions about Everything Feline. Always remember, successful Training is all about Repetition and Rewards.

We recently mentioned that we have a natural daylight lamp. Mommy bought it years ago because they’re supposed to use less electricity, last longer, and give off the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs without the heat. So, we were asked if it might help provide indoor kitties with Vitamin D. We gave a casual answer in the comments, but the more we thought about it, the more we decided it needed to be addressed; after all, everybody knows how much we kitties love a good sun puddle.

Can Cats Absorb Vit. D:

     The first thing we should look at is the lamp itself, or rather the bulb. Daylight lamps are in no way akin to Sun Lamps, which many used to “tan” inside. Daylight lamps do provide miniscule amounts of Vitamin D, but not enough to make any medical claims. However, it should be noted that cats Do Not actually need the Vitamin D provided by sunshine. The feline body doesn’t absorb Vitamin D through their skin the way humans do. Cats get all their Vitamin D from the food they eat, so feeding kitty a proper diet with the right nutrition is paramount. Do Not give kitty Vitamin D supplements unless prescribed by your V-E-T.

 

Vitamin D Toxicity:

     Cats can become very ill if they get too much Vitamin D, a condition called Hypervitaminosis D. Symptoms of Vitamin D toxicity usually occur within 12 to 48 hours of ingestion and include:

Vomiting

Weakness

Depression

Lack of appetite

Increased Thirst and Urination

Diarrhea

     Possible accidental causes of Vitamin D toxicity include ingestion of rat poison or human vitamins. If you think your kitty has gotten into either, please contact your V-E-T ASAP. Long story short, kitty doesn’t need that great sun puddle, they just enjoy it. And, kitties don’t need to go outside, they do just fine as indoor only pets.

All this sun and heat’s a bit overrated.

Raena:  Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Hey sissy, did you notice anythin’ different this meownin’?

          Dezi:  Different? Like what Raena? Did you do somethin’ new to your furs? 

 

Raena:  Don’t be silly sissy, I’s can’t change mine’s furs. I’s meant did you notice that old fly is furinally gone? I’s got him befur he could multiply again.

          Dezi:  Oh, that. Did you really get him or did he just furinally die of starvation? And, ifin you actually got him, then why was there a teeny fly in me’s food this meownin’? 

 

Raena:  I’s got him sissy. Mommy even called me the Mighty Huntress, Queen of her jungle. As fur your teeny fly, mommy says that’s a gnat, not a fly. Did you eat him? He’s just a nibble of protein. But don’t you worry, I’s RaenaBelle, Queen of mine’s jungle will ketch him in no time. 

 

          Dezi:  Oh yeah Raena? Is layin’ in front of you plate bobbin’ your head what you call huntin’? Me saw that gnat in your plate too.

Raena:  I’s just plannin’ mine’s pounce sissy, that’s all. You know, form is very ‘purrtant when huntin’. And, I’s a girly, I’s wanna look good even when I’s stalkin’ mine’s prey. You know, like a lean mean killin’ machine.

          Dezi:  Seriously Raena, you’re watchin’ far too much teevee. Girl, you need to get out some. (Dezi shakes her head while mumbling) Lean mean killin’ machine…We’re housecats, we don’t have any need to be lean, mean or killin’ machines. Hmmmpht  You know mommy likes us to have a little meat on our bones, don’ch’a? ‘Member the last time mommy took you to the V-E-T and said she felt like she was starvin’ ya’ cuz you’re so skinny? 

 

Raena:  I’s do sissy. But mommy ain’t starvin’ me. I’s just built different and so I’s skinnier than you. 

 

          Dezi:  Are you callin’ me fat, Raena?

Raena:  ‘Course not sissy. I’s was just meowin’ that some kitties have a stockier build, like you do and some of us are long and lean…that’s all. Anyways, ‘nuff weight meowin’, we’ve got lots of other things to do and meow ‘bout. Like our upcomin’ playdate with Prancie. I’s can’t wait. I’s luvs our furiends soooooo much. I’s wish we could meet ‘em all and have everypawdy over fur a play date. (Raena’s eyes get bigger than saucers as she daydreams about meeting all her friends) 

 

          Dezi:  Me too Raena. That would be amazin’…and ‘spensive. We’d have to figger out a way to make some green papers so we’d have a way fur everypawdy to get here and a place fur everypawdy to stay. 

 

Raena:  Well sissy, I’s saw on the teevee the other day where peeps were rentin’ their cars out. You know, peeps are doin’ a lot of strange things to make money these days.

          Dezi:  Yeah Raena, me’s not sure anypawdy would pay actual money to rent our car. While we may feel blest to have it, it’s not the bestest lookin’ car on the road, nor the most reliable.

 

Raena:  You’re purrobably right sissy. Maybe we could rent out our services. You know, purrs fur green papers? How much do you think we could charge?

 

          Dezi:  Ya’ know Raena, that’s not the worst idea you’ve come up with. That actually sounds like it could work. Ya’ know, ‘specially fur those that don’t want all the respawnsibilities that come along with ownin’ a kitty. They could pay like a thousand dollars fur 30 minutes of full on purrs. And we could charge extra fur makin’ biskits.

Raena:  (Raena meows excitedly)  Ooh Ooh yeah, and we could charge another thousand fur your drool. You know, we could tell peeps that it’s special drool…maybe even anti-aging. You know how women are ‘bout wrinkles. MOL Oh sissy, I’s think we need to put us a business plan together and see ifin we can’t get a start up loan or somethin’. We could advertise on our bloggy and the facebutt (facebook). They advertise everythin’ there. Y, It’d be purrrrrrfect!!! 

 

          Dezi:  Slow down Raena, slow down. Me’s not sure mommy’ll go fur this. After all, who’s gonna look after her while we’re workin’? 

 

Raena:  Hmmmmm Okay, so maybe I’s don’t have it all worked out yet. But, I’s really think we should put some more thought into this. Maybe we could just run the business and hire other pussy cats to actually do the work.

         Dezi:  (Dezi looks off and thinks for a minute while getting love from mommy) You might have somethin’ there Raena. Let’s go mull this over and meow ‘bout it a little more. Maybe we can hammer out all the deets (details) after a mid meownin’ nap.

Raena:  I’s right behind ya’ sissy. Let me just grab a pen and paper in case somethin’ comes to me in mine’s dreams. Like, a name. We could call it, Purrs of Gold. Or maybe Purrs fur Papers, ya’ know, the green ones?. Purrs With a Purr-puss, oooooh I’s really like that one. Get it, Purr Puss, Purr-puss (purpose). Purrs…(Raena settles in for a nap while yammering on and on.)

Raena:  Hey, Is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle!!! Mommy!!! I’s can’t hear mine’s self over the noisy lawn crew machines!!! I’s hate yellin’!!! (Raena jumps off the back of the chair onto the scratcher beside mommy’s chair and looks around) Hey sissy, where’d you come from? Can you not hear the lawn crew? I’s thought you would’a been unner the bed?.

Raena: Wait sissy!!! (Raena runs after Dezi who heads down the hall and UTB) C’mon, sissy, wait fur me. I’s wanna tell ya’ somethin’. 

 

          Dezi:  Go away Raena, this is me’s spot.

Raena:  But sissy, I’s wanna learn how to hunt fur intruders too.

The lawn crew’s still making a lot of noise outside but the girls are hungry and start to slink towards the living room)  Sissy, do we have to crouch down so low? I’s have longer legs than you do and this isn’t all that comfurtable. 

 

          Dezi:  Nopawdy said you had to follow me Raena. Don’t you have somethin’ else you could be doin’?
