Spay And Neuter What’s It All About

Mr. Sunshine!!! Where are you? Lady Spring!!! Me thought you was comin’ early? Oh, meowllo everypawdy how ya’ doin’? Member all dat purretty weather me had reported ‘bout? Well it went away and Old Man Winter came back with da colds, da storms and all. Mommy had been tellin’ me it was comin’ but me kept remindin’ her dat da weather guessers was sayin’ just da opposite. So Tuesday night when da sky started rumblin’ and lightin’ up like Cristmas trees mommy ‘splained to me dat da weather guessers must not know old man Arthur-Itis like she does. Me told mommy she needed to quit hangin’ out with old man Arthur-Itis cuz all he ever brought round was bad news, pain and yucky weather. Mommy agreed with me but sed he was an innerloper, an uninvited guest dat showed up whether you wanted him to or not. Bein’ da Southern Belle me is, me thinks dat’s just rude.

Dezi laying on the floor in front of the fireplace

It iz rude Dezi, but old man Arthur-Itiz visits most of us az we get older. I hiss at him and old man Winter ever year and yet they still come back.

Well sissy me thinks sumpawdy shuld teach him sum manners. And dat’s all me’s gunna say ‘bout it fur now, cuz in all da stormin’ and cold we missed World Spay day.

As ya’ know we believe in spayin’ and neuterin’ your anipals. As with any medical purrcedure there’s a little controversary surroundin’ da when it can/should be done. Mommy remembers a long time ago when VETs recommended waitin’ till an animal was 6 – 8 months old or da females had their furst heat cycle afur altering. She even remembers a time when they thought it was good to let a female have 1 litter afur bein’ spayed. (shakes head) Fank Catness we know better today. With so many unwanted anipals in da world, da last thing we need is a bunch of kitties and puppies bein’ born to respawnsible pet owners. Anyways, in recent years spay and neuters have become commonplace in very young animals. Da new requirement seems to be dat da anipal in question must be 6 weeks old and weigh 2 pounds. This purrcedure is technically called a Gonadectomy and refers to the removal of the sex organs or gonads in both female and male animals. Spaying a female animal means dat da ovaries and usually da uterus are removed. Neutering a male entails removal of da testicles.

Neutering is about more than just de-sexing an animal. It can also alter some of da behaviors exhibited by in tact animals. Fur instance, neutered animals no longer feel da need to breed and pass along their genes and thus rarely exhibit territorial behaviors such as spraying, fighting or caterwauling. The medical benefits of neutering an animal include, reduced risk of mammary gland tumors, testicular cancer is eliminated, a decrease in da risk of prostrate disease and ovarian and uterine cancer is reduced or eliminated; especially ifin done before da furst heat cycle. And of course it does away with the vicious cycle of propagating and adding to da nummers of unwanted animals in shelters and rescues. As with any surgical purrcedure there are risks. But da benefits far outweigh those risks in most cases. Ifin you have any concerns da bestest thing to do is talk with your VET.

World Spay Day is an annual campaign by da HSUS and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association to bring awareness to spay/neuter fur companion, community and street animals. But every day can be Spay Day as far as we’re concerned. Ifin you have trouble comin’ up with da funds to spay or neuter your furry furiend, check with your local shelter. More offen than not there is a low cost clinic dat can help you out. Even we have one about 35 miles from us. Mommy used to volunteer a lot; and me was spayed there many years ago now. Me was 6 months old at da time of me’s spay and sis Lexi was a bit older. But only cuz she was so tiny and her VET wanted to cut down on da risks of surgery by allowing her to gain weight afur goin’ unner da knife. Ifin him only knew. Sissy hasn’t seen those tiny days in a long time. MOL  Mommy purrsonally isn’t a fan of da Gonadectomies and purrfurs da 6 month time line, but we encourage you to talk with your VET ifin you have any concerns. Spay, neuter and adopt. Words to live by.

Contrary to some beliefs, neutering does not make your pets lazy or gain weight. Your anipal will stay active as long as you continue to purrvide stimulation. And a propurr diet and play life will keep your pet healthy and weight appropriate. Me’s gunna go now and try to find Mr. Sunshine. Or maybe me will just take a nap by da lectric fireplace.

What are your thoughts on early spay/neuters (Gonadectomy)?

Sooie! #ChewyInfluencer

Meowllo everypawdy and Monday too. We were actually excited fur Monday to get here this week. We told ya’ last week dat sis Lexi seems to get sick late Furiday after da VETs close and then starts feelin’ better late Sunday; just in time to not have to go to da VET on Mondays. Well it happened again this weekend, so we kuldn’t wait fur Monday to come rollin’ in so sissy wuld start feelin’ better. And sure ‘nuff, she’s duin’ much better today. While talkin’ with others, we’s found out this is quite common among our older and/or sick furiends. Good days and bad ones seem to come and go in a cycle. Da really good thing ‘bout sis Lexi’s bad days this weekend is dat she was still eating and able to keep most of da noms down. And dat brings me to today’s posty.

As Chewy.com #Influencers, we get to try a lot of great purroducts; and this month was no exception. As you all know me recently changed me’s eatin’ habits to a raw freeze dried diet. It’s yummy and me’s a lot healthier. So when da opportunity came to try out sum freeze dried liver treats we was all over it. We received a 2 ounce package of Primal Freeze Dried Pork Liver Munchies. Now there’s only 1 ingredient in these treats and it’s pork liver. Yep liver from da pig and nuffin’ else. Primal uses only pork raised in da USA without antibiotics or added hormones. These treats are grain and gluten free with no preservatives or added salt or sugars. Primal has a variety of flavors in a variety of textures.

#Primal Pork Liver Munchies

Now let me tell ya’ a little sumfin’ ‘bout freeze dried foods and treats in general. Some are kinda soft and easily break or crumble and some are really hard, similar to a kibble. Mommy sez it’s mostly cuz of da protein source. This is one of da reasons we have sed dat switchin’ your cat from kibble might be easier with freeze dried noms. Dat bein’ sed, da Pork Liver Munchies we received are on da harder side of freeze dried. Livers usually are. Da pieces are kinda big and needed to broken up into smaller bite size pieces. So let’s get to da taste testin’.

Dezi smells the Primal Pork Liver Munchies

Mommy broke up a piece and offered it to me and sis Lexi. Sis Lexi immediately grabbed a piece and started gummin’ it. It wasn’t too long and she spit it out and walked off. It was a little hard fur a mature girly with no teeth. Well since sissy spit it out there was no way me was gunna try it. So off me went too. A few days later when sis Lexi was nappin’ and mommy and me was havin’ some special alone time she offered me a few bite size pieces. Me looked ‘em over and had a good sniff and then took one. Yep me had furgotten ‘bout sissy spittin’ it out and was ready to give ‘em a try fur me’s self. Me chewed and then switched it to da other side of me’s mouth and chewed sum more. Finally me spit it out too. Dat munchie was still in one piece. It had a few extra holes, and was a bit slimy now but still looked like it did when me started chewin’. Me picked it up and repeated da earlier steps and spit it out again. Thinkin’ maybe me got a bad piece, me took a fresh one from mommy’s open hand and started chewin’ away at it. It didn’t take me long to spit it out too. Me was done. No more lookin’ sniffin’ or chewin’ fur me. These things were too hard and there was no pay off. Me never got anythin’ to swallow. What’s up with dat? Ifin me can’t get it to me’s belly then it ain’t food or treat accordin’ to sissy, and me has to agree.

Sissy sed we needed to be fair and truthful as always in our review, so we both give da Primal Pork Liver Munchies 1 paw up cuz we were innerested enuff to try them. But since neither of us kuld actually chew them up enuff to swallow, we won’t be buyin’ any. Now me knows you wanna know what mommy thought, so here she is.

dw-DeziprimalporkliverDSCN6010 (640x480)

Thank you baby. I wish you and Lexi would/could have eaten them because liver is a great source of protein. I love the fact that there’s nothing in them but the pork liver. There’s no bad or controversial ingredients in them. That’s always a plus in my book. Altho they are a bit hard, they are still fairly easily broken into smaller pieces. And because it’s just pork liver, the treats are great for mixed households. Doggy and kitty can both have the same treat at treat time. The bag is pretty full so the price of $6.99 is fair. But because y’all didn’t actually eat them, I can only give them 1 thumb up.

dw-DeziprimalporkliverDSCN6009ribedit (640x480)

Thanks mommy. So there ya’ have it. Da Primal Freeze Dried Pork Liver Munchies are a great treat fur kitties and doggies. But purrobly not a good choice fur da kitties with teeth purroblems or no teeth. They’re a bit hard so not everykitty is gunna like ‘em but most of our peeps will luv them cuz of da goodness of ‘em. You kuld add water and purrobly soften them a bit, but once it’s in a bowl it’s no longer a treat to us. Chewy has lots of great products so we’re certain you will find somethin’ to meet your needs. There’s always free and speedy shipping on orders of $49.00 or more and a flat rate shipping fur all others. You can set up an autoship so you never run out of your furries favorites again. And don’t worry you can skip cancel, edit or delay any shipment. We are linkin’ up to da #ChewyInfluencers review hop hosted by The Golden Woofs. Check out what others sed about da purroducts they tried this month.

Blest Sunday: Passing The Blessings On

Meowllo everypawdy. It’s a furbulous Blest Sunday here. Altho’ we don’t have any sun puddles da weather has been a bit warmer. And you know we don’t like da winter colds so we’s sure enjoyin’ da warmth. Mommy’s been a little sickly and paw fur da course sis Lexi got da sicks late Furiday evenin’. But ya’ know what? Sissy still be eating and keepin’ most of it down, so all’s good there. She has developed a new habit dat mommy’s not real happy ‘bout tho’.

Dezi's selfie as an oil painting

See it all started last Fursday meownin’. We all headed to da pawdee box room as we do every meownin’. Me hopped on da counter to get a drink, sis Lexi crawled into da pawdee box and mommy sat on da human pawdee box directly across from sis Lexi. Sissy pawed at da litter and mommy looked up just in time to see sis Lexi lift her tail and start streamin’. And what mommy saw caught her completely by surprise. Lexi was standin’ so close to da edge dat she was streamin’ right over da edge of da pawdee box onto da floor. And me isn’t talkin’ ‘bout just a few drops eever, it was a full on stream. Thankfully mommy had covered da floor round da pawdee box with piddle pads, but none da less, sissy was missin’ da pawdee box altogether. Of course mommy didn’t yell or say anything, but she sure was thinkin’ a lot. She sed da whole time sissy streamed all she kuld think was, “Really? Can’t you take one more step forward?” Well ‘parently not cuz she’s dun it a few more times since then. Mommy’s just thankful she put down da piddle pads and dat sissy’s still usin’ da pawdee box…sort of. MOL

Lexi's impressionist selfie

As long as we head to da pawdee box to take care of business, mommy’s happy. Even ifin we miss every once in a while. MOL  We are very blest. And bein’ so blest we wanna share ‘bout sumpawdy who kuld use a few blessings. One of our fellow bloggers really needs your help. Awnty Katie Kat from Katiez Furry Mewz has quite a few kitties who need medical care, and furever homes. She also has a furiend who she’s tryin’ to help out so money be in short supply. Awnty Katie recently became a rescue. Even tho’ she’s been duin’ all she kuld to help da kitties there’s just never enuff green papers to go ‘round. We’s a little late to da party, but she set up an auction so she can continue to help out where needed. Ifin you have da means, you can donate directly to her PayPal via da Donate button on her bloggy. But let’s say you don’t have any green papers to donate. Take a look around your house, you might have sumfin’ you can donate to da auction. Or maybe there’s sumfin’ there you wuld like to buy. You know we told ‘bout how wunnerful and supportive da Blogosphere was last week on our Blogoversary; so let’s rally and do what we can to help awnty Katie Kat.

So on this Blest Sunday when we are all givin’ thanks fur da many blessings in our lives let’s ‘member those who might not be as blest as us. We’s sendin’ lots of purrayers fur all our furiends and wishin’ ya’ da bestest. We’s also joinin’ da Kitties Blue fur selfies today.

Exquisite Feline Art

It’s time fur Caturday Art with Athena. We don’ have any long detailed instructions of our foto shoppin’ techniques; cuz well, we don’t have foto shop and mommy…well she don’t have a clue ‘bout how to maneuver those apps. She’s always ‘fraid she’s gunna mess sumfin’ up dat she won’t be able to change back. Trust me, she’s come a long way since we began all this, but she’s still no foto editin’ Picasso.   So on with da show.
