Thanks Dezi and Lexi. I have a few letters here from some very sleep deprived humans. Let’s take a look.

Dear Morris,

I’ve been experiencing difficulties with falling asleep, tossing and turning once my head hits the pillow. I don’t get it because I feel tired all day at work; then I come home, brush my teeth, flip on the TV, and just… lie there. I’m hoping I can learn from the expert. Morris, what am I doing wrong?

Sincerely,

Sleepless in San Fur-nando

Dear Sleepless in San Fur-nando,

Your case, unfortunately, is not at all uncommon. When you’re going all day long at the speed of a cheetah, it’s no wonder your mind darts around like a red laser dot at bedtime. Luckily, as a cat, I spend up to 140 hours per week sleeping and I can tell you there is hope! For starters, I notice you mentioned turning on the TV before bed. Cats don’t watch TV – this is partly because the majority of us can’t speak English that well, but mostly because it interferes with our snooze time. Scientifically speaking, the ‘glow’ emitted by an electronic screen enters the brain and slows the release of melatonin, the hormone that helps us sleep. So next time you want to turn on the tube before bed, try counting sheep instead – or better yet, mice!

Kitty hugs,

Morris

Dear Morris,

My cat and I are BFFs. We do everything together – play, eat, snuggle – we make a purrfect team. But in the bedroom, I prefer to have my space. My cat, on the other hand, thinks there’s no better place to sleep than right on my head! Why does she do this? I’m not all that fun when I’m sleeping.

Warmly,

Tired Tails

Dear Tired Tails,

You have been bestowed a great honor. As cats, we don’t always wear our hearts on our paws, but one tell-tail sign we love and trust you is when we choose to make YOU our bed. Plus, you’re warm. And getting our warmth from you helps us to conserve our own energy for more important things like eating. The rhythm of your breath also creates a calming effect and the curve of your face, stomach, or legs perfectly forms to our bodies. Basically, you’re like a waterbed, heated blanket, and memory foam all in one! So the next time your cat goes to curl up on you, think of it as a compliment and drift off to sleep knowing you are loved… and you’re very comfortable.

A Southern Belle and Her 1/2 Ton Pick Up Truck

Happy Caturday. Well we went AWOL this past week cuz mommy had to hunker down and help me make a cool ride fur da Cardwood Derby at Cat Scouts. She got a 1 week reprieve last week, but didn’t figger dat was gunna happen again. She also got a little sick, so it was purretty slow goin’. Anyways, by da time we went MIA mommy had already destroyed 3 boxes and was tryin’ to find more. Mommy tried followin’ da written instructions, da picture instructions and da pics in her head. But she readily admits she isn’t da crafty kind. She is in awe of those dat are, but dat just isn’t her talent. Mommy be da artist part of da arts and crafts. She paints and draws and sings and plays instruments and writes of course; but give her craft paper, glue and scissors and she breaks out in hives. When she was yunger, like when dinosaurs walked da earth, she even messed up da linky circles kids made fur Christmas trees.

Dezi poses for the camera from the arm of the chair

So after box 4 was all cut up and didn’t resemble anythin’ but a cut up box, she threw her hands in da air and sed, “Dezi my dear, there are just some things your mommy can’t do, and I’m afraid this is one of them. I’m sorry sweety.” And she sat down and started coughin’. (member she had gotten sick) Me jumped up in mommy’s lap and meowed and patted her face wiff meez paw. Me was tellin’ her dat she was meez mommy and there wasn’t anythin’ she kuldn’t do. And durin’ her coughin’ spell a light went off in her head and she decided to try to draw a car fur herself. So once she quit coughin’ she grabbed up her sketch book and pencils and started drawin’. Me laid on da arm of da chair watchin’ mommy make magic wiff a pencil and she looked over at me and sed, “Y Baby, you’re a little Southern Belle, you need a pick’em up truck.” Meez moniker at Cat Scouts is Dezi La Belle. Anyways, mommy took da pencil to da sketch pad once more and drew up a truck. Voila, Dezi’s Motors was born.

Side view of home made cardboard truck

We had a few more boxes, but this was da last of them, so she had to get it right da furst time cuz we only had 1 really nice sized box dat me wuld fit in. And to enter da Derby, me must sit in meez vehicle. So once more da measurin’ tape came out and da liquid pencil marked da areas fur cuts. Me hopped on da cat tree to watch from a safe distance as mommy can be quite dangerous wiff cut cardboard pieces and and a box cutter. A cut here, a fold there and a piece of Duck tape later and meez pick up truck began to take shape. Me kuld see hers vision now and it was purretty cool. She was workin’ hard and fast and started sweatin’ up a storm. Mommy decided it was time fur a break and so me looked over da unfinished truck and headed to da back to take a nap wiff sis Lexi. It wasn’t long afur me heard da sound of cuttin’ on da cardboard and duck tape bein’ applied. Suddenly mommy appeared in da doorway of da bedroom and sed, “Come see your truck angel. We need to take your picture so we can get you entered.” Meez respawnse, A half opened eye and a yawn dat sed, yeah, not right now mommy.

Me finks me can squeeze fru here.
Me finks me can squeeze fru here.

After all dat work, mommy wasn’t takin’ no fur an answer. She came in and picked me up and carried me to meez awaitin’ 1/2 ton chariot. She put me in meez truck and inserted da last piece of box dat separated da cab from da bed. Well me wasn’t havin’ any of dat. Da largest cut me kuld see was da windshield, but there was actually a windshield there so me kuldn’t escape dat way. Mommy was tryin’ to hold on to me fur dear life and snap a foto wiff hers other hand, but dat wasn’t workin’ out so good fur her. Me saw an openin’ she was callin’ a window, and stuck meez head fru it. Let me tell ya’ ifin a cat can get there head and whiskers fru sumfin’ we are pawsitive we can fit our whole body fru. (dat is a fallacy)  So me purrceded to try to exit out da window. One thing we cats don’t think ‘bout is dat our whiskers can be smooshed flat, our bodies…not so much. Head fru me pulled meez furst paw fru and…OMC…me got stuck. Mommy fru da camera down and tried pushin’ me back in da cab of meez truck to no avail. Me wasn’t goin’ back in there fur nuffin’. She was sure we was gunna have to use da jaws of life to get me out. Dat wuld mean no truck and no entry fur da derby. And well, mommy wasn’t havin’ dat. Me finally managed to get fru da window wiff da truck and meself still in tact. Scroll over da fotos below to see da captions.

Mommy picked up da camera and took out da cab insert and sat down. She looked at me wiff a tear in hers eye and sed, “Oh darlin’ I worked really hard to make you a truck, won’t you purrlease let me take your picture?” Me cocked meez head to one side, very doglike, and meowed, “Well, since you asked so nicely and you did put a lot of work into meez truck, me will let you take sum fotos.” And me jumped right in meez truck and started checkin’ it out. And yes, da flashy box was flash, flash, flashin’ away. We didn’t have anythin’ to wrap meez truck wiff and mommy didn’t have enuff acrylic paint to paint meez truck so it still looks like a brown box wiff duck tape, but hey, rednecks luv duck tape, it’s a miracle worker. But we didn’t have enuff duck tape to wrap up meez whole truck eever. Considerin’ this is totally not sumfin’ mommy be good at, me thinks she did a fine job. Meez gunna go muddin’ now, so hope you all have a pawsum weekend. And weez joinin’ Athena today fur da Caturday Art blog hop

Dezi and Lexi in their harness dresses laying together

We be feelin’ really purretty today. It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day and we just had to purrticipate. Bein’ Service Cats we offen go out wiff mommy. We are so fankful to awnty Jennifer and grand awnty Peggy fur our pawsum stroller; but just cuz we be zipped in dusn’t mean we don’t still need a harness and leash. We don’t always wear them, like when we go fur a stroll round our partment or sumfin’, but they’re in da storage compartment on da stroller just in case.

Lexi in her scarf

Last year mommy also discovered dat me is much calmer durin’ storms and fireworks wiff meez harness on. So sumtimes me wears it just round da house. Me luvs meez harness. And last year we got sum cute harness dresses from a furiend dat we really like. Mommy wuld luv to have more choices fur us, but even fur us, “clothes” ain’t cheap. MOL  Mommy sez dusn’t seem to matter how much material goes into da makin’ of an outfit, they all be over purriced. Anyways, hope you enjoy our playin’ dress up fotos today. Me has to go now, mommy and me be workin’ on meez car fur da Cardwood Derby at Cat Scouts. See you soon.

Dezi in her work harness on cat ledge

Do you like to dress up? Or Duz your human like to dress you up? And fur da humans, do you dress up your fur babies? (We know this is a controversial subject among da cat peeps, but we think ifin da kitty likes to get dressed up it’s okay. We rarely wear hats, cuz we don’t really like things on our heads.)

Ants In Me Pantaloons

Well!!! Me Never!!!! Me has no idea what mommy is talkin’ ‘bout, ants in me pantaloons. Me dusn’t have pantaloons, me has bloomers. And there’s no ants there fur sure. Meez a very clean girly and since switchin’ to da freeze dried raw noms me hasn’t had any bloomer stinkies dat required cleanin’. So me dusn’t know why mommy finks me has ants. As a matter of fact, me hasn’t had any bugs since those nasty worms when me was a baby. So there, mommy, wha’d’ya’ say to dat?

Dezi playing with a nip paper and cleaning her paw
This is a gweat piece of nip paper Ali brought fur sis Lexi and me.

You’re right sweety, you haven’t had any bugs since those nasty worms when you were a baby. And you are very clean and there’s been no accidents since switching your noms. But baby, ants in your pants is what we humans say when someone can’t sit still or calm down. And you have for sure been “antsy” lately. I know it’s been storming and raining and cold and gray outside a lot lately, but you’re about to drive me nuts. lol

Me dusn’t even know where nuts is mommy. And me only drives you to da pawtty box room and da kitchen.

Dezi biting on a piece of paper
Me dusn’t have ants, meez just bored.

Oh Dezi you still habz so much to learn. Nutz ain’t a place sissyfur, it’z a state of mind.

A state of mind sissy? Well me didn’t learn to drive dat, did me? Da only thing mommy taught me to drive was da wheelchair. When did we learn to drive a state of mind?

Dezi in stroller outside
Me luvs to go fur strolls wiff mommy.

Well Dezi dat’z not sumfin you learn to “drive”, it’s juzt sumfin’ you habz da ability to do frum da minit youz born. And you waz born wiff a lot of it. MOL

Whew Me thought me missed a lesson or sumfin’. So me was born wiff an extra talent, huh?

Dezi in stroller outside
What’s dat? Me sees a birdy.

(Lexi puts a paw on her head and then shakes her head) Yep Dezi you waz born wiff an extra talent alright, quite a few fur dat matter.

Aaaaaaw Fank you sissy. Anyways, ants aside, da sun came out and it warmed up a bit yesfurday fur da furst and last time in a while. Me was so excited dat me was meweekin’ at mommy all meownin’. Me was playin’ wiff every toy we have and runnin’ up and down da cat tree and up and down from mommy’s lap every few minutes tellin’ her to look at da purretty day. After ‘bout da levinty thousand meweek, mommy decided to take me fur a stroll. Ah da sweet furesh air was divine. Me even heard sum birdies singin’. And we met a new neighbor and hers daughter who also be cat luvvers. They each have a rescued furry purrer in their house. And based on what they was sayin’ they spoil their kitties too. Mommy sez me be spoiled rotten, but me knows dat can’t be true cuz me dusn’t stink. Now dat garbage disposal was rotten, but me smells like a purretty girly shuld smell. Me so enjoyed meez stroll and alone time wiff mommy. It’s always nice when mommy takes da time to have sum one on one time wiff sissy and me. Mommy kuldn’t see da camera display very good cuz of all dat sunshine, but me hopes you enjoyed meez strollin’ fotos today, me sure did enjoy da purrocess of takin’ ’em. Gotta go now, da sun is here today fur da last day in a while accotdin’ to da furcast, so me has to try to get mommy to take me fur another stroll. MOL  Me dusn’t have ants in meez pantaloons but me duz wanna enjoy da nice weather while it’s here.

Dezi in stroller outside
Mmmmmmmm smell dat furesh air.

Do you get antsy when you have to be cooped up because of da weather? What do you do to relieve some of dat tension?
