Tell All Tuesday: Who’s Eating What #ChewyInfluencer

Hey everypawdy, it’s me, RaenaBelle. Can you believe it? It’s almost Christmas!!! I’s just can’t wait. In t’ween tryin’ to ketch up on our visits, take care of mommy and nap, we’ve been shoppin’ hard fur the bestest gifts to put on our big Gift Guide next week. And yes, we’ve got ideas fur the whole family, men included…and no, they’re not ties, socks or underwear. Mommy said I’s needed to meow that so you all won’t worry. Ya’ know, cuz what could a house of girly’s know ’bout gifts fur men, right?. Sissy? Are ties, socks and underwear not good gifts?

Dezi sits on scratcher watching Raena play in chewy box

No Raena, there’s nuffin’ wrong with those things as gifts, but they’re not very creative. It’s like the gift one gives when they don’t know what else to think of.

Hmmmmpht  Well, I’s can tell ya’ after seein’ some of the holes in mommy’s socks and drawers, I’s know she was thrilled with the new socklets awnty Cindy just sent her. Anyways, we didn’t pick any fur the menfolk. You’ll just have to stop by and check out the guide. We think we’ve got some pawsum picks that just ‘bout anypawdy would be happy to receive.

Me totally agrees Raena. But, that’s next week; today we need to tell everypawdy ‘bout this new food we tried the other day.

We did sissy? I’s don’t ‘member tryin’ it, did you?

Dezi and Raena eat out of their new dishes

Uh, well, why don’t we get to that pawrt after we tell everypawdy ‘bout the basics. Like, mommy would purrfur that we could eat a variety of things, at least every once in a while. You know, ya’ just never know what might happen in the future, so it’s always good fur us kitties to have at least a couple of options so we don’t have to go hungry. As most of ya’ know, we eat freeze dried raw.

Mommy would purrfur we eat all raw sissy.

That’s true Raena. But, mommy is happy enuff that we eat freeze dried raw, so she doesn’t push us…least not yet. Anyways, she would like to find a couple of quality canned foods that we could eat just in case.

In case of what sissy?

Miko poultry variety pack cat food

The ingredient list doesn’t look too bad. The variety pack, 12) 3 oz. cans comes in poultry and tuna or seafood and chicken for $14.99. You can also buy them in single flavor packs for the same price. As you can see from our fotos, the contents of the can look like shredded or pulled meat in water/oil. There’s purrlenty of juice in the cans. Mommy says the juice contains some oil based on it’s appearance. She also said that the longer it was on the plate, it appeared to oxidize. Three hours after opening the can and putting it out, the liquid had the appearance of dirty dishwater. I’s sniffed it from afar, but wouldn’t go near it. Furthermore, I’s wouldn’t touch mine’s regular food either till it was removed from mine’s mat.

Dezi and Raena check out the Miko cat food

As you can see by me’s foto, me did check it out and then me looked over at Raena’s pawtion, just to see ifin hers might have looked better or somethin’. Me sniffed it a few times and then ate me’s regular dinner. It smelled kind’a funny. Me would have normally at least lapped up the juice, but this one just wasn’t fur me.

Raena looks at dinner and Miko cat food Uh, you need to move that stuffs so I’s can eat mine’s dinner now.

Me either sissy. And the fish formula’s have the bad vit. K ingredient, Menadione Sodium Bisulfate Complex. Since we don’t eat fish, this wasn’t a very big concern fur us, but should be fur the fish eaters. While this food doesn’t make the cut in our house, Chewy has purrlenty of things that do, and at great prices. They have pawsum customer service peeps and free speedy shipping on all orders of $49.00 and more. There’s a low flat rate shipping charge for all other orders. And they have products for the whole family.

Dezi peeks out from a chewy box

Don’t furget some of the greatest boxes ever. While you’re there, check out the holiday shop. Ya’ just might find a gift or two to put unner the Christmas tree.

We need to check out the Christmas shop ourselves sissy. Anyways, let’s get outta here and do some shoppin’ fur our Gift Guide. We’ve got a few more gifts to choose.

Service Cats: Making A Local Move With Kitty

MeOW  Welcome to Service Cats and Everything Feline on Furidays. When we started this series back in June of 2016, we had no idea how it would be received. Nor did we know all the directions it would take. But, we knew that cats were often misunderstood and many lost their furever homes due to some of those misunderstandings regarding natural behaviors. And, we’re always looking for the opportunity to share how smart and talented kitties really are. So, a little over 2 years later, we’re still here taking your questions and post suggestions and hoping that we’re helping kitties everywhere. Ifin you’ve missed any of the posts in this series, you can always ketch up by clickin’ the links on our Training Tips and Everything Feline page in our menu. And as always, you can submit your own questions or topic suggestions by leaving a comment in the comments section or sending us an email via our Contact page.

The following post will be written in human English for reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Training Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy A thru her many years of animal training, cats in purr-ticular. And to offer insight into your questions about Everything Feline. Always remember, successful Training is all about Repetition and Rewards.

First up, we’d like to apologize for not posting last week. Mommy had a doctor’s appointment and just wasn’t up to computer time. But, we’re here this week and we’re going to be talking about Moving with cats. We thought our sweet angel Lexi should write this post. After all she and mommy moved 12 times throughout her lifetime.

Lexi rides in her travel carrier home from BlogPaws Nashville

Thanks Dezi, I’s did see a lot of new homes in my lifetime. Today I’s thought we’d talk about local moves, you know moving from one place to another that’s less than a 2 hour/100 mile drive. These moves usually occur over a couple of days. If you’re renting, Please, never lie to landlords about having cat(s). Inevitably we’re going to end up in a window and be seen; so honesty is the best policy. In our experience, it’s always good if you can get a letter of recommendation from previous landlords regarding your kitties. You know, like kitty is well behaved, didn’t destroy their property and wasn’t allowed to run loose and wreak havoc in the neighborhood. So, moving week is finally here and you’ve gathered boxes, turned on the utilities in the new home, scheduled turn off times for the current place and turned in your change of address forms.

Dezi bathes while laying among packed boxes druing the flood of 2014

Packing Day:

Most everybody knows, kitties love boxes, so make moving time fun. It will help relieve some of the stress and anxiety kitty may feel as more and more things disappear from shelves, closets and cabinets. Don’t forget to keep a Decompression room or area set up just in case kitty needs to chill. As you pack, talk to kitty about the move. Mommy always says things like, “you’re gonna love the new place.” “Don’t worry, I’d never leave you behind.” “You’re going with me.” “There’s a great window in our new place, you’ll be able to see everything.”  Whether kitty understands all the words or not, the positive tone in your voice and the inclusion of kitty will make him/her feel more secure. Lay aside a few of kitty’s favorite toys, blankies/mats/pads/bed for kitty to continue to use. Allow kitty to check out the boxes as you pack. As you start moving boxes, be sure to keep an eye on the door. You don’t want kitty dashing out or escaping. If you have help (movers, friends, etc.) close kitty up in a bedroom or bathroom for safety and let everyone know not to open that door. We also suggest putting a sign on the door that states kitty is inside. Things can get confusing and people do get sidetracked and forget, so the sign is just a little reminder to all.

Dezi climbs among the packed boxes during the flood on 2014

So many places to play with all these boxes.

Kitty’s New Home:

When you’re finally ready to move the last of your things including kitty, make sure the new home is set up and ready to welcome kitty home. The new place should have a litterbox, water bowl/fountain, favorite toys, blankie/bed and a highly scented piece of clothing from you. We recommend setting these things up in the areas they’ll be once everything is unpacked. You may or may not want to set up a small Decopmpressions Room/Area. Mommy’s never done so and doesn’t think it’s truly needed at this time. Kitty should be part of the last trip from the old house to the new. Because of this, you will be with kitty and that will help to relieve any stress kitty may be feeling.

Now is not the time to deep clean the litterbox, however, we do recommend scooping. We do understand that Jackson Galaxy recommends leaving a few deposits inside, but we don’t find that necessary so long as the box itself hasn’t been cleaned and some of the old litter remains inside. Once you bring kitty in, mommy recommends releasing kitty in the litterbox. Yep, she carries each kitty to the litterbox and sets them down in it. Of course, no kitty stays, but we never forget where the pawtty box is. MOL

Dezi and Lexi play together

Life has returned to normal. We’re together with our toys

and mommy. Nuffin’ else matters.

New Normal:

Hopefully You will have already put away a few things so there’s some semblance of normalcy in the new home. Don’t worry if kitty hides for a day or three or even skips a meal or two. However, you should keep kitty’s schedule as normal as possible. Remember, it’s you kitty is bonded too, not a home or even things. Your calm presence will bring kitty around in no time and you can all enjoy the new place. Local moves are the easiest moves you’ll ever make with kitty. Join us next time, for long haul moves. There’s more planning and chances for things to go wrong, but they can be highly successful and easy peasy when done right.

Thanks sis Lexi, me wouldn’t mind a move and me knows mommy wouldn’t either. Anyways, anypawdy who may be thinkin’ ‘bout movin’ doesn’t wanna miss our next Service Cat posty. Mommy and Shad moved from Texas to New Mexico, to Georgia, to Tennessee, and back to Texas successfully. So, ifin anypawdy has experience in movin’ with kitties, it’s mommy A. Chatting Cats: Is Pine A Good Cat Litter

Hey everypawdy, it’s me, RaenaBelle. I’s sure hope you all had a pawsum weekend. Things have been a little crazy ‘round here. And not even fur the reasons you might be thinkin’ ‘bout. Let me tell ya’ a little story. It all started a couple months ago when mommy ordered our review items from Chewy. We get asked all the time fur recommendations. Ya’ know the kind, what food is bestest? What litter do you use? And so on. ‘Course, we always tell peeps that we purrfur our natural litter over clay every day of the week and twice on Blest Sundays. Anyways, lots of peeps wanna know why we don’t like clay and even tho’ we don’t, is there one we would recommend over another. So, mommy decided we’d give one of those clay litters a try and she purromptly added it to our normal litter. (Raena shakes her head) Sometimes mommy ain’t the crispest cracker in the box.

Dezi looks at Raena from atop the liberty cat tree

RaenaBelle, what are you meowmblin’ on about?

I’s tryin’ to x’plain what’s been goin’ on ‘round here lately sissy. Ya’ know, with you and the pawtty box? Ya’ know, how you quit usin’ it when mommy added that clay to it.

Dezi looks up at Raena atop the Liberty cat tree

Uh, that might have been the main reason Raena, but it fur sure wasn’t the only reason. Don’t furget to tell everypawdy what a pain you are. Jumpin’ on top of the pawtty box and whappin’ me’s tail while me’s tryin’ to do me’s business. Nopawdy or kitty wants to have your paws unner their hoohaw while they’re goin’ pawtty. Just ask mommy. ‘Member when you tried to stick your paw in the toilet while she was usin’ it?

Frisco pine and corn cat litter,

Anyways sissy, back to mine’s story. (Raena thinks a minute) Actually sissy, ifin ya’ stand at the openin’ with your tail flyin’ ‘round like a flag, you’re just askin’ to get whapped. You know we kitties can’t resist a wavin’ object. Anyways, I’s, bein’ the good girl I’s is, continued to use the pawtty box of course. Even when that nasty stuff ran every where and globbed on mine’s bloomers. I’s could see how frustrated mommy was havin’ to clean your messes several times a day. Fanky fankfully, as soon as mommy got paid this month she bought several jumbo bags of our good litter and completely changed out your favorite box. It took a while, but you furinally started usin’ the pawtty box again. And lo and behold, but what did Chewy offur us this month? More litter. Fanky fankfully, it’s the natural kind we like. You can see that review here. But wait, they also offured another natural litter. See Chewy has their own brand called Frisco. And, they have a natural pine and corn litter that mommy thought we might like, so she ordered a bag. We received a 28 lb. bag of Frisco All Natural Pine and Corn Clumping litter that sells for $20.99, $19.94 ifin it’s on auto ship. Let me tell ya’, it ain’t lightweight in the bag, so be sure ya’ have your muscles ready when it arrives. Let’s see what Chewy has to say ‘bout it.

After recent events, mommy decided not to place this is both of our pawtty boxes right off.

At least she learned from her mistakes, Raena. After all, me might be a little purrticular, but me does purrfur to do me’s business in the appropriate place.

Frisco Pine and corn cat litter

lightweight with some sharp edges

Sure sissy, whatever you meow. I’s heard stories ‘bout when you were a baby kitten and tried to…

RaenaBelle!!! Just get back to the Frisco pine and corn litter. Nopawdy wants to hear your so called stories.

Frisco pine and corn cat litter,

Mommy poured 1/4 cup water in the middle of the bowl. As you

can see, the water ran from the middle and only stopped

because it ran into the sides of the bowl.

I’s bet they do sissy. Wanna bet? Why don’t we ask ‘em?  Anyways, I’s gettin’ off track here. Where was I’s? Oh yeah, after openin’ the bag, which by the way has no way to reseal any unused pawtion, mommy decided not to put the litter in any of our pawtty boxes. It smells kind’a moldy and funky, altho’ we didn’t see any mold and I’s not sure what funk looks like. So, mommy placed some in our handy dandy bowl so we could purrform some tests. You know the ones, what’s the texture, does it make a good clump and is it easy and clean to scoop?.

So, what were the results you ask? Well, it’s dusty as a construction site and has some pointy sticky pieces that might be a little rough on tender paw pads. When mommy poured the 1/4 cup of water over the top, it ran everywhere, kind’a like the clay did. That means it would’a been stickin’ to mine’s bloomers. Not a good thing let me tell ya’. So, we had a clump and some fur mommy to scoop. The main clump started breakn’ apawrt the minute mommy tried to scoop it. You can kind’a see it in the fotos. Mommy overfilled the bowl and it’s really fluffy and lightweight so it kind’a scattered everywhere when she tried to scoop it.

Frisco pine and corn cat litter,

The center clump started breaking the minute it was lifted out of the bowl.

Yep Raena, mommy made a real mess with this one. Me’s sure you were no help bein’ right unner her feet tryin’ to see everythin’. You know, you don’t have to be a pawrt of every little thing that happens.

Frisco pine and corn cat litter,

The dust is so lightweight, it spilled over the top of the bowl during the scooping process.

It’s also a bit staticky and some stuck to the edges of the bowl. Based

on prior experience we know that it would also cling to fur.

Yes I’s do sissy. You never know when mommy might need me. I’s just bein’ a good girl and lettin’ mommy know I’s there to help her any time, any way she needs me. Mommy shouldn’t have to holler fur us and wonder where we are. You know how much she hates that. Mommy’s always sayin’ she likes fur us to be where she can see us and hear us and touch us ifin she wants. I’s just doin’ what mommy wants me to do. She’d like you to do it too, but noooooooo, you were too busy bathin’ on the scratchin’ pad.

Dezi lays on scratcher and licks paw

So what Raena. Me’s sure some of that litter dust got on me. Me didn’t wanna stink like that so me had to hurry and get it off. Mommy could still see me. Ifin she had needed me, me would’a been right there. But, me knew she didn’t need both of us t’ween her legs. Sometimes, your help ain’t very helpful. You just oughtta be glad you’re not the reason mommy falls so much. You know she ain’t no ballerina. Grace ain’t her middle name.

You better be nice sissy. I’s gonna tell mommy that you’re makin’ fun of her. Anyways, we need to wrap this up. We can’t speak fur odor control cuz we think the fresh outta the bag litter already stinks. It might not smell like cat pee, but it ain’t purretty let me tell ya’. And, we kitties actually purrfur unscented litter. Since I’s didn’t actually use the stuffs, I’s can’t meow to how it feels, but based on our tests, I’s can tell ya’ I’s wouldn’t like it.

Well Raena, me fur sure wouldn’t like it. Me doesn’t like it when me’s business runs all over the place and gets me dirty. That’s why me quit usin’ the pawtty box when that clay stuff was in there. Besides, all that dust and stench, is totally unacceptable fur any self respectin’ kitty’s pawtty box.

Mommy was quite disappointed sissy. She had really hoped this would be a good alternative to our regular litter. Ya’ know, in case she wanted or needed to add it to our rotation. She says ya’ never know what might happen and when ya’ might need an alternative. The size and purrice are right up there with other quality natural products and it’s made in the USA. We give it one paw fur bein’ made here at home, but we think they need to go back to the drawin’ board. It could fur sure use some upgrades. Our idea of a soft clump isn’t somethin’ that breaks apart the minute ya’ touch it. Can you ‘magine the mess you’d have with it breakin’ apawrt all the way to the trash or toilet to dispose of it? We’ve tried other Frisco purroducts that are top notch, but this one’s a miss in our opinion.

Dezi sits in chewy box

But we still luv Chewy. They’ve got great customer service that’s available 24/7, and purroducts fur the whole family, furred, feathered, scaled, finned and skinned. And, they offur speedy free shippin’ on all orders $49.00 and over and speedy flat rate shippin’ fur all other orders. They even offur a great auto ship program that allows you to save an extra 5% off your orders and makes sure you never run outta your pet’s faves. Don’t worry, you can skip, cancel or delay anytime.

Blest Sunday: It’s Our 4th Blogoversary & The Blessings Continue

Meweek, Mew, Mew, (Dezi dances around and runs back and forth from the kitchen to her meal mat in the living room) hurry with that brekky mommy, we’ve gotta write our Blest Sunday posty. It’s our 4th Blogoversary!!! And what better day to celebrate it than Blest Sunday. Don’t put too much gravy in Raena’s, you know she’ll throw it all up ifin ya’ do.

Dezi, Raena and Lexi in a pink circled frame with a heart

(Raena jumps down from the wheelchair and runs right into Dezi re-entering the kitchen) Sissy…

Hisssssssss…Watch where you’re goin’, Raena!!!

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

I’s not the one runnin’, sissy, you are. Maybe, you should watch where you’re goin’. I’s want the exact same brekky as you. The more gravy the better. (Raena rubs against the wheelchair and one of mommy’s legs) Meowwwwww  Mommy, I’s want the same brekky as sissy. I’s a big girly now. I’s even got to go the the Cat Scouts Valentine’s day dance. By the way sissy, what’s a Blogoversary?

 #Dezi laying in chair

Taggin’ along to a dance doesn’t make you all grown up, Raena. Now leave mommy alone so she can fix our brekky. Haven’t you figgered out by now the more we bug her the longer it takes to get fed? (Dezi meows as she runs back to her food mat. Then she hears the coffee pot beep and runs back to the kitchen, where she watches mommy get her cup of coffee and head for the living room to set it down. Dezi follows mommy back to the kitchen where she picks up the breakfast plates and heads back to the living room. Dezi runs ahead excitedly) Meweeeeeek, Mew, Mew. Here mommy, here. Put me’s brekky right here. (Turns to Raena and meows) We’ve been bloggin’ since February of 2014, Raena. Mommy had just got her furst real catputer and knew nuffin’ ‘bout the world of bloggin’ or the innernet. We actually created a blog totally by accident. But, it’s been one of the greatest things that ever happened to us. We’ve met so many amazin’ furiends, both human and anipal. We can’t ‘magine what our lives would be like without all of you in it. We’ve come so far from our furst posty and our second, both on the same day to innerduce ouselves. We didn’t have a clue ‘bout what bloggin’ was or how to edit fotos, or even what to write ‘bout.

(Raena runs to her food mat in the living room and looks back for mommy.) MeOWwww I’s so hungry. Put mine’s plate right here mommy, hurry. (Mommy parks the wheelchair and sits in the sitting chair and opens a bag of chocolate chip mini muffins. Raena looks up from her plate and walks over to sniff the bag in mommy’s hand. She goes back to “cover” her plate and then jumps in mommy’s lap.) I’s want some of that mommy…Why? Why can’t I’s have a bite? A little chocolate can’t pawssibly hurt me. (Looking down at Dezi, Raena meows) Well look at us now sissy. I’s can’t ‘magine you ever had a hard time comin’ up with somethin’ to meow ‘bout.

Lexi lays in wheelchair and looks up

Ya’ never know Raena. Chocolate isn’t good fur us kitties or doggies. Besides, we’ve got great food, you wouldn’t like those muffins anyways. But, it sure was nice of awnty Cindy and angel Maggie Meme to send it to mommy. She luvs those little muffins and brownie bites. (Thinks about what Raena just meowed) Me’s not sure ifin you’re givin’ me a compliment or bein’ mean Raena, but me’s gonna choose to believe you’re bein’ nice. Back then the blog was mostly me’s meows; sis Lexi had facebook and me had the blog. It’s really nuffin’ like it used to be. But, mommy says that’s a good thing. We have to evolve and learn or we’ll fade away into the lost bytes and bits of the innernets.

Happy Blogoversary sissy, I’s hope we have lots more. By the way, did you see those Hawaiin rolls? Mommy can’t get enuff of those things. They are purretty tasty. I’s got to try a little bite once. That we are Raena. Another blessin’ we got this week was help with mommy’s leg ouchie. Some of ya’ may ‘member that mommy fell right befur Christmas and hurt her leg purretty bad. It got to hurtin’ somethin’ fierce last week, so we asked ifin anypawdy had any suggestions on how to treat it. Mommy’s V E T had told her to keep puttin’ that triple antibiotic cream on it and keep it wrapped. But, it didn’t seem to be gettin’ any better. And cuz mommy had to use a few bandaid type bandages cuz she ran out of gauze pads, she had some new sores where the sticky had been. Mommy’s ‘lergic to bandage sticky, and we’re thinkin’ triple antibiotic cream. As always, our pawsum furiends purrayed and gave us some great ideas fur treatin’ her ouchie. Warning: Below are purrgressive fotos of mommy’s ouchie. Ifin ya’ have a weak tummy, scroll quick, there’s only 3 and we made them small.

Sure ‘nuff, sissy. Somepawdy suggested she put Manuka honey on it. She just happened to have some of that cuz she had bought it fur your sis Lexi. I’s thought she looked kind’a crazy slatherin’ honey on her leg, but it really seemed to help, a lot. That honey took the heat and the soreness outta mommy’s ouchie really quick.

It even looks better too, Raena. And fanks to awnty Cindy fur sendin’ some green papers, mommy got some more gauze pads and is lookin’ into somethin’ called colloidal silver.

I’s hopin’ we get to pick up some extra treats while we’re in Ardmore. Maybe I’s can meow mommy into gettin’ us some bacon or somethin’. What a week of blessings we’ve had. Good furiends, good food and lots of luvs…What more could a kitty girl ask fur.
