We know mommy. And we boff luv ya’ fur it. But we know you can’t do dat fur us any more than our furiends pawents can do it fur them. So me fawt me wuld talk a bit today on how to make this holiday better fur yous furry furmily members. Cuz altho’ most of us kitties get scared of da fire boomers, so do a lot of our doggy furiends. So let me say furst, KNOW yous fur baby. Come on, you know whedder they be fwaid of this nonsense or not. And ifin they awe, don’t force them to go wiff ya’ to see da fireworks show in da pawrk. It’s not fair to them or you; and nopawdy has a good time. So da furst fing you can do fur yous fur babies duwin’ all da celebwations is make them feel safe. Mommy closes da big door and it muffles da sound a bit. Ifin da fire boomers awe goin’ on wight outside, then maybe yous can put yous furry in a bedroom and close dat door. Member ifin yous shut them up in a room to purrvide furesh water so they don’t get dehydwated. Member this is Pet hydwation Awareness Mumff. Altho’ anytime is a bad time fur yous furry to be dehydwated, it sure wuld be a shame ifin it happened this mumff fur sure.
So yous closed yous furry in a room all their own fur their safety, what’s next? Purrvide them wiff sumfin’ they find comfurtin’. You know a favowit bed, or toy, or sumfin’ wiff yous scent on it. A shirt or pillow. Mommys scent is stwongest in da bed sheets so a lot of times dat’s where we hide. Have you ever looked fur yous kitty or doggy only to find them hanginn’ unner da covers of da bed? Weez be surrounded by yous scent and feel safe there. Be sure we have identification on our collars or awe microchipped. You never know, we might get so scared we jump fwu a window. or a BBQ guest might open da door to our sanctuary while lookin’ fur da pawdee box room, and in all da ‘citement, we might run out. Speakin’ of pawdee boxes, don’t furget to leave us one in our safe place. Just cuz weez scared dusn’t mean we stop needin’ to pee.
And all dat cutesy glow in da dawk jewelry…it’s poisonous. Not so much so dat weez gunna die (dependin’ on da amount), but it will make us sick and feel like weez wanna die. You know dat feelin’. Most adults have had it at least once in their lives. And even tho’ we may be beggin’ fur BBQ extwas, don’t give ‘em to us. And absolutely NO alcohol. Lighters and matches, used to ignite yous fire boomers awe also dangerwous fur us. Deadly in fact, so keep ‘em outta our reach. In udder words best you celebwate this holiday on yous own. Hey sumtimes you hoomans need to have sumfin’ dat dusn’t include us. And fur this one day, weez okay wiff dat. Just make sure weez safe, wiff furesh water, food, tweats, toys and a pawdee box or piddle pads. Weez’ll be hidin’ out, but weez safe so you go and have fun, and weez gunna close up and play wiff mommy. Sissy got a purrezzy this week and weez havin’ a blast. It’s finally summer and weez feelin’ da humid heat left behind fwum da mumff of rain we had. But we do have sunpuddles so dat’s nice. And of course we be sittin’ in da house unner centwal air conditionin’. Me wanted to go fur a stwoll yesfurday so mmommy got me all fixed up and in da stwoller. She kept sayin’ fings like, “honey, it’s too hot fur this”, and “Are you sure you want to go out in that heat?” But me just kept mewin’ yes, so out da door we went. OMC Me musta’ been cwazy, cuz we didn’t even get off da porch and me wanted to come back in. Mommy was wight…it was H O T hot. As most of ya’ know last mumff was adopt a shelter cat mumff, and lots of kitties found furever homes. Dat’s da good news. But just cuz June be over dusn’t mean dat there awen’t still kitties in need of homes and savin’, cuz there awe. Ms. Katie Kat has those cute little black kitties dat still need to find homes of their own and so many more. We fink everyday be a gweat day to adopt a kitty and save a life. After all when yous adopt yous savin’ 2 lives; da kitty yous bwing home and da one comin’ in and takin’ dat empty cage or open spot in a foster home. One of our pawsum furiends even sed yous savin’ 3 lives, and da 3rd be yous own. Most everywhere it’s illegal to set these fings off in town, but peeps do it anyways, and most of us cats don’t like it one bit. Weez even have sum doggy furiends dat not like ‘em, so there’s gunna be purrlenty of hidin’ goin’ on this week. Well Sunday was a mawaffon copy day and mommy got everyfin’ put all togevver late. It was pawrtly Lexi and meez fawlt it took so long cuz we made hers stop and have a luv fest a kupple times. We was boff runnin’ a bit of a temp. And no call fwum da VET. So furst fing Monday meownin’ mommy called da VET at da office and was told Dr. C was on vacation and Dr. M was in surgery but they wuld have hers call us as soon as she got out. So mommy gwabbed da fone and put it in da basket on hers wheelchair and took da paperwork up to da office. Whew (wipes brow with paw) Now da weal fun work begins. A mumff of “they” won’t accept this, or “they” need this or that. Cuz nuffin’s ever easy wiff this manager. As most of you know weez lived here a very long time, and mommy used to manage pawrtments just like these a long time ago. So she knows what she needs to turn in and has always done it wiff no purrawllem till this manager. And cuz she wants mommy gone she has to pick on us every year. So faw she’s not been too bad this year, and dat’s fanks to da purrayers of all of you and dat she got in twubble last year fwum da Purresident and VP of da management company. So keep those purrayers comin’.
It was early afternoon when all this got finished, and still no call fwum da VET so mommy called over to da office again, and got da run wound ‘bout how busy they were and dat Dr. M hadn’t had a chance to make any calls but she wuld be callin’ us afur she went home. So mommy cleaned a bit and put all her “lease wenewal” copies on da shelf fur easy access ifin she needs ‘em, and sat down to help us stawrt visitin’ all our furiends. And…OMC we didn’t have any innewrnet. Awe yous kiddin’ me? It’s been goin’ down everyday here wecently, but here it was da middle of da day. So mommy gwabbed da iPaw and headed fur mr. W’s to use hims fone to call ATT and saw our neighbor out on da porch. Since she has a puter mommy asked ifin she had innewrnet and she sed, “Nope and I don’t have a phone either. I got cut off in the middle of a conversation. It just does this all the time and there’s nothing we can do but wait it out.” Well mommy’s not all dat good wiff waitin’ it out. But since nopawdy had a fone, mommy got hers cell fone (which usually dusn’t have service in da house) and went on a walk-about twyin’ to get a signal.
Signal acquired, mommy called ATT and an hour later was told da innewrnet wuld be back up in an hour or two. Dat was @ 5:30 yesfurday afternoon and we hadn’t had service since 3:30 p.m.. But there was nuffin’ else mommy kuld do but wait. We didn’t get service back till 7:30 this meownin’. OMC Was mommy ever fit to be tied. MOL But at least we got a lot of hugs and luv and mommy and us time while we had no innewrnet. Hopefully weez back now and can stawrt visitin’. So weez’ll be by to see ya’ in a bit. Mommy checked da voicemail when we finally had service again, and there was a message fwum da VET office fwum da office manager. She sed she pawlogized dat Dr. M hadn’t called us and dat it was hers fawlt cuz she never gave hers da message to call us. Dat was at 6:30 last night. Course we had no fone by then cuz of da innewrnets bein’ down. Well needless to say, mommy’s purretty angwy ‘bout dat situation too. We do hope yous Monday was more purrductive than ours. Weez boff be feelin’ better today so mommy hasn’t called da VET office yet. Hers not sure how she wants to handle this yet. So ifin yous kuld send a few purrayers dat Lexi and me continue to get better.
