Meowllo evewypawdy and happy Caturday. Me wants to mention stwaight off dat me joined da Pet Pawade over at Rascal and Roccos. Evewy week weez join ‘em and evewy week mommy furgets to put their link in meez posty. You know sum fings oughtta go wiffout sayin’. Me can’t dictate evewyfin’. Me needs meez booty west. But me did want’cha to know dat meez joinin’ ‘em again this week along wiff many more pawsum pet blogs. Yous oughtta head over, after yous wead and comment on meez posty of course; and check ‘em out. You can go ahead and paw dat linky, it’ll open in anudder window so you can finish here furst.

So, most of ya’ know dat sissy has a Facebook page wiff hers name on it. Weez change out and make posties on each udders pages all da time, and meez bloggy goes up there evewyday. Or at least evewy time me can get mommy to take dictation. Anyways, she asked ow furiends ifin they wuld like a daily chwonicle ‘bout how she be duin’, how da meds awe workin’ and so on. Mommy wanted to keep a wecord fur hers selff and they fawt ifin ow furiends wuz innewested this wuld be a purrfect way to journal it. Well we hav da mostest pawsumest furiends in da universe and of course they all sed yes, they wanna hear all ‘bout it. So Lexi posted yesfurday after dinner and it wuz mostly borin’ cuz da day had gone purretty good. Well she spoke too soon. Yous wanna knmow why?

Well just let me tell ya’. It went sumfin’ like this. Mommy wuz takin’ dictation when me had to go to da pawdee box. (she shlda took dat time to add da linky to da Pet Pawade) Just as me headed back, sis Lexi came wunnin’ fwu da house like hers pants wuz on fire. She had hers tail tucked down and hers hiney all sucked up. Come on yous ladies know what meez talkin’ ‘bout when yous twyin’ to get in those jeans you wore when you wuz still a teenager?. Anyways, me had to go so me didn’t fink much ‘bout it. Maybe hers meds is givin’ hers da zoomies. Well me wuz in da pawdee box twyin’ to do meez businesss and me heard mommy say, “Oh Lexi. It’s okay sweety, accidents happen. Let me help ya’. Honey, don’t run off. Wait!! Stop!!” but did sissy wait or stop? Nope hers whizzed past me and into da udder pawdee box hers went wiff mommy hot on hers heels.

Lexi: Well Dezi ledid me tell ya’ sumfin’, derz nubbin’ okay bowt dat smell or feelin’ or habbin’ a ji-unt chayzin abter ya’ wiv a wad ov toylit payper cuz sumfin’ beez hayngin’ frum youz hinee-bow. Itz jiz down rite im-bayrizun. Jiz cuz youz doo it awl da time duzunt meen I’z wanna habz a tern.

Well sissy me dusn’t like it, but it just happens sumtimes wiff all meez fur. At least yous not hav all da bwitches me has. Anyways, wiff all this commotion goin’ on it’s a wunnew me wuz able to handle meez business. Altho’ guess me spoke too soon. Cuz da nex fing me heard wuz mommy hollewin’, “Oh My Bloomin’ Cat!!!! Cant’t either of you hit the pawdee box? Me had a little stickin’ purrawlem too, and it fell off to da floor when me jumped outta da pawdee box. And…..pawently mommy went and stepped in it. (snickers) Okay yous wight, it wusn’t funny (chuckles under her breath). Poor mommy. All she wuz twyin’ to do wuz hav a cup of hot coffee. And she’s almost out. Da only fing we can say to dat is, why shuld we change how ow house wuns just cuz yous at da bottom of da coffee can mommy. Ifin yous been followin’ eever of us fur anytime yous know dat mommy rarely if ever gets to sit down and hav a whole cup of fwesh hot coffee. Well mommy had a big ole mess to clean up in da pawdee box woom cuz of course mw didn’t hit da piddle pads eever. And of course after mommy stepped in it and smooshed it evewywhere it wusn’t gunna be an easy job. No, don’t worry weez not hav any fotos of this. Poor mommy wuz gwossed out she wuldn’t subject yous all to it. And all this happened in da foo hours after Lexi posted hers update on Facebook. Hope all of you hav fings movin’ nowmally and not be havin’ dirty bloomers fur yous mommys to clean. And we hope yous hav a pawsum Caturday.

Meowllo evewypawdy it’s Furiday!!! Like yous didn’t alweady know dat wight? Just in case, me fawt me wuld clue you in. Da weekend’s finally here. An OMC awe we ever glad. Well yesfurday wuz mommys mumffly doctows pointment and so yous know we wuz busy. We usually enjoy da day even tho’ it means we get weally behind on visitin’ and weadin’ yous bloggys. Altho’ meez mommy wishes she kuld figger out a way to do boff. Anyways, it stawted out like most evewyday wiff us givin’ mommy a massage. Altho’ weez kulda gone fur anudder 30 minutes of sleep. Sissy and me wusn’t weal fwilled when mommy sed we had to get up. But sumtimes da bladder wules. You know what me means?. So massagin’ we went and then off to da pawdee box woom and then up da hall fur bwekky. Mind you it wuz colder than a well diggers a_ _ and so Lexi and me hung out in fwunt of da lectwic fireplace while mommy fixed bwekky.

Then we heard it…a gasp fwum da kitchen. Mommy had opened her coffee can and even fwu da sleepy eyes kuld see da bottom. OMC Weez wunnewed ifin she wuz gunna stawt climbin’ da walls. Ifin she duz weez’ll let ya’ know. But fur now she made a cup of coffee and served us ow noms. And then it wuz time fur us to get weady to go to da doctow. Let me tell ya’ it hadn’t warmed up a bit by da time we left. Mommy wuz all wrapped up like a eskimo and she put a blanky in da stwoller fur me. And yes, me used it. Hey, sumtimes meez fur’s not enuff. Mommy and doc musta talked ‘bout evewyfin’ unnew da sun includin’ hims Mawdi Gwas tie. Which weminded me weez got sumfin’ comin’ up at Cat Scouts ‘bout da Mawdi Gwas me just dusn’t member when. Me needs to wemind mommy to check dat out fur me.

Anyways, we finally headed out and made a quick stop at da local fawmacy to get mommy’s OTC’s (over da counter meds) and then we headed out of town to da fawmacy to pick up mommys purrscwiptions. As always they wuz very nice and got us all fixed up fast. But when we checked out they told mommy she had 3 purrscwiptions. Mommy didn’t know what they kuld be. She bwought one dat can’t be called in or faxed over, but now dat doctows do dat faxin’ and emailin’ of scwipts, mommy never weally knows what to ‘spect when she goes to da fawmacy. After all they had discussed sevewal fings. So maybe he sent over sumfin’ fur hers pneumonia or dwy skin, or any nummew of fings. She picked up a bag of dollaw peanuts and we wuz off. We had a foo more stops and then…home mommy, let’s go home.

Once we got home and mommy got evewyfin’ settled. You know, take of da coat and pashmina and shoes and purrpare to stay awhile, she sat down to look at hers purrscwiptions. And then we got a supwise. OMC Dat 3rd scwipt wusn’t fur mommy’s dwy skin, or pneumonia or nuffin’ like dat. It wuz anudder nawcotic. Mommy’s name wuz on da bottle, but there’s no way doc wulda sent dat over fur mommy. Da last fing hims wants hers duin’ is takin’ 2 diffewent pain pills. But just to be on da safe side mommy called da doctows office and asked what hims sent over to da fawmacy fur her and sure nuff this wusn’t on da list. So she called da fawmacy and they didn’t even wealize they had given her sumpawdy else’s purrscwiption. Now unnewstand it wuz one of those scwipts dat peeps sell on da stweets. But of course ifin it had to go home wiff anypawdy, mommy wuz da purrsun to make da mistake wiff. Cuz hers be weally honest and told them it wusn’t hers. They decided to come and pick it up since we had alweady left town and came home. Well at least we got all dat took care of and hoo ever wuz gunna be needin’ dat medicine can get it now. Busy day over we sat down to west a foo afur time to make ow dinner and weport on Lexi to all ow Facebook furiends. A bit of dinner, a foo emails and meez blog posty written, we called it a day. Hopefully weez’ll get caught up sumday. Fur now all me can say is weez’ll see ya’ soon. Cuz weez Home now and in fur da weekend. YAY!!!

The Feline Pearly Whites

Meowllo evewypawdy, how ya’ duin’ today? As me told ya’ on or ‘bout da furst of this mumff me wuz gunna be duin’ sum educational postys this mumff seein’ as how it be National Pet Healff mumff and National Pet Dental Healff mumff and National Purrvent a Litter mumff and all. So me fawt today wuld be a good day to post one of those since mommy and me will be goin’ fur hers mumffly visit to hers doctow. Me wanted to talk a bit ‘bout dental diseases in kitties, so da learnin’ pawt of this posty’s gunna be in hooman speak so yous can all unnewstand evewyfin’.

Your cat’s dental health is very important. What goes on in the mouth can affect the rest of the body as well. It seems most cat breeds are purported to have some degree of gingivitis. This is something we know all too well as sis Lexi has had chronic gingivitis her whole life. At least for as long as she’s had teeth. When looking up information about the different cat breeds even the hearty mixed “tabby” is prone to periodontal diseases of some kind. Just what kinds of diseases are we cats prone to you ask. Well, gingivitis is at the top of the list. It comes with inflamed red gums and bad breath. But it doesn’t stop there.

Gingivitis migrates to the bones ad ligaments that support the teeth and if left untreated will cause the teeth too become loose and fall out. (or they can be removed by a vet.) But the bacteria that causes all this inflammation can also be carried by the blood stream to the rest of the body such as the organs (liver, kidneys, etc.) and cause damage and even organ failure. This gingivitis is caused by a buildup of plaque (food and debris) on the teeth that doesn’t get removed and then turns to tartar (the yellowing near the gums). FIV and FeLV are known to cause gingivitis, (altho’ not backed up by studies) but even an otherwise healthy kitty can be afflicted as in Lexi’s case.

Tooth Resorption is another dental affliction that may affect your feline friend. It is estimated that 28%-67% of cats have some amount of Tooth Resorption. It’s the most common cause of tooth loss in cats. It is very painful and can cause many other problems as well. You can read more about it here. Stomatitis is another dental problem cats may be afflicted with. Little is known about the cause of Stomatitis, but it is painful and doesn’t respond very well to treatments. The best course of action although drastic is typically removal of the teeth.

Stomatitis is best described as an atypical immune response to the chronic presence of organisms. The classical Stomatitis lesions are located at the back of the mouth. Again FIV and FeLV can be precursors to this disease as well. But it’s important to remember that even an otherwise healthy cat may be afflicted. The treatment for all of these diseases is similar and may include antibiotics, dental cleanings and extractions among others. Please consult with your Vet for the appropriate treatment for your feline family member. Lexi would like all of you to know that a cat can live a happy and productive life without their teeth. And can continue to eat most everything. It’s always a good idea to train your cat early to enjoy getting their teeth brushed. And if possible daily brushings are best. Remember to use a toothbrush made for your cat or dog as well as toothpaste. DO NOT use human toothpaste it is harmful to both cats and dogs.

We have barely scratched the surface of dental diseases and their effects on your feline friend, but we hope we’ve shared enough to make you think about the dental health of your pets. And take some steps to help prevent tooth loss as long as possible. And maybe talk with your Vet about your cats teeth and gums and implement your own dental program at home. Dental health is important to your cat’s health and can effect other areas of their body, so it is something to take seriously. And while weez on da subject meez gotta go and get meez teefys bwushed wight now.
