Meowllo everypawdy weez twyin’ to hurry and get meez posty out afur da next big funderboomers followed by da lightin’ up of da sky. Now let’s see where did me leave off…Oh yeah me wanted a few more minutes of Zzzz’s So while mommy took care of meownin’ pawdee box business and sis Lexi played in da water me laid down in da shower chair and had a few. Sissy laid down on da vanity and meowed fur mommy to leave da water runnin’ till bwekky was weady so mommy woke me up to dwive her to da kitchen. Well of course me obliged, it is meez job after all. And it means me gets a few extwa licks of butter and/or ham spoon. Now weez not weally told ya’ what da ham spoon is so meez gunna tell ya’ today. Sissy told ya’ all da meds and supplements she be taking, and dat she gets ‘em in a tablespoon of ham and ham gwavy baby food. Well one of those supplements be fur UTI’s and can be used as a purrventative too. So after mommy mixes all of sissy’s medicines into da ham, she puts a little of dat D-Mannose on da spoon and mixes it up wiff hers finger and gives it to me. Oh da ham is divine. (looks off with a glint in her eyes)
Gimme da ham spoon mommy, it’s meez turn.
So anyways mommy and me headed fur da kitchen to fix bwekky. As me sed mommy be getting’ wound purretty slow these wet, rainy days, so it takes furever to make bwekky, so me stands watch. And sumtiimes me will have a good scwatch on da post, but me can still see and feel mommy so ifin she needs me it’s no purroblem. And sure nuff this meownin’ she needed me. Mommy was twyin’ to hurry and get our bwekky made and suddenly me felt dat sumfin’ wasn’t wight wiff mommy. So into da kitchen me went and pawed at hers ankles and meowed and twirled. See mommy likes to twy to stand up and fix our bwekky. She leans on da counter to stabilize her. But ifin she passes out, it dusn’t matter what she’s leanin’ on, she’s gunna fall. So after me danced a little me got da chair and bwought it over to her so she kuld sit down and finish makin’ bwekky. Bwekky all dun and me hopped up in hers lap to have me sum ham spoon and mommy hollered fur sissy to come eat.
Sissy came saunterin’ up and jumped on da table to have hers ham plate and canned noms and mommy took meez plate to da livin’ room where me eats. Mommy and me went back to da kitchen to get hers coffee and then we all settled in. Sissy and me stawrted eatin’ and mommy sat in hers sittin’ chair to have coffee, read emails and pass out. MOL Eventually mommy stawted getting’ wound a bit better as da day went on, but wiff all this rain and ole man awfur-itis hangin’ wound most of our days this mumff have been purretty much like this one. Mommy sez she wuld still be layin’ in bed ifin not fur Lexi and me and dat she be so fankfull to have us. We fink we be da lucky ones. So togedder we be a very gwatefull furmily.

Me also wants to take a minute to fank our awnty Cindy and Maggie Meme fur sendin’ us a few pawsum boxes. Mommy got more coffee and fank catness cuz her was out and climbin’ da walls. She gladly came down off da ceilin’ to make her a fwesh cup and we gladly let her dwink it all. MOL We allso got sum more filter fur our fountain and sum kitty gwass. And she sent 2 bonus sets of sheets fur da bed. What dat bonus means is dat weally we got 4 sets of sheets. And then last night awnty Anonymous called mommy and wanted to give hers sumfin’ fur hers Meowday which be da day afur BlogPaws, da 27ff. So mommy got anudder Meowday purrezzy. Mommy sed she felt like a queen. We told her she’s always our queen, but a meowsy big fank you to all of ya’ fur makin’ mommy’s day.
And we was finally able to get online fur longer than a minute yesfurday and awnty Jennifer had left us a message and she’s gunna be sendin’ sissy a Meowday cawd and sumfin’ fur mommys Meowday too. We have da most pawsumest furiends ever. We have been so humbled by da generosity and love shown to us by so many. Fank you seems so inadequate to expwess our gwatitude, but we weally do fank you all. Hope you can hear us purrin’ our gwatitude.
And on anudder fwunt, weez be getting’ all packed up and weady to go to BlogPaws. We be so ‘cited we can’t hawdly stand da wait. We can’t wait to meet so many of you and finally put togedder da hoomans wiff da cats. Mommy knows all our kitty furiends names, but needs a cwash course in da hoomans. So purrlease furgive us ifin weez not recognize you wight off. Weez countin’ down da days. And we almost furgot, weez joinin’ up wiff Rascal and Rocco fur da Pet Pawade Blog Hop. It’s still stowrmin’ so meez gunna go check out da Cat twee and sissy’s gunna take a nap and mommy’s gunna fix anudder cup of coffee, weez’ll see y’all soon.
Meowllo everypawdy meez back!!! Hope you enjoyed hearin’ fwum sissy. We fawt it was weally purrtant dat hers tell hers own stowry. She’s duin’ weally good right now and dat’s what counts. Let me tell ya’ she was sum kinda ‘cited when she came home dat day. She meowed ‘bout it fur hours. She luvs to go so much and we don’t fink she ever gets tired. Everytime she comes home fwum an outing she wants to go out again. Mommy sez she dusn’t know where she gets all dat energy. MOL We awe so blest dat sissy’s still got it. Now as you all know, eever cuz weez told ya’ or yous watched da news; weez been havin’ lots of stowms. Actually it seems more like one big stowm dat never goes away. Mommy sez she dusn’t member a time in wecent years when weez had a whole mumff of stowms in May. It is our rainy, tornadoey time of year, but this year has been pawful, and it’s not over yet.
Last night me wuld swear da wind was blowin’ a hunnewed miles purr hour. And da funder was in our house. They still say weez in a dwought, but we have twubble believin’ dat since everyfing wound here is standin’ in water. But even in all this we awe blest. Mommy was able to find sum dwops dat help me calm down and not be so scared and wiff meez hawness on most of da stowm’s not so bad. Me will say dat when fings was bangin’ wound outside and hittin’ da windows and door, me did hide fur a bit. Weally it sounded like everyfin’ was twyin’ to get inside wiff us. It’s still carryin’ on out there, but da wind has calmed sum so it dusn’t sound as terrifyin’ out. Dat’s a blessin’ cuz it means meez not hidin’ all day.
On anudder note, mommy be twyin’ to pack and clean at da same time. Weez got an inspection on Tuesday, and then da next week weez goin’ to BlogPaws!!! WooHoo Weez so ‘cited. Mommy sez she needs to pick up sum of da small cans or pouches of noms to take wiff us cuz there’s not a fwidge in da room to keep any leftovers. Of course weez takin’ da camera’s so she has to make sure she has da chargers so weez not find ourselves wiff a foto op and dead batteries. Weez purrawlly gunna have to get new batteries soon cuz you can only chawge these fings so many times afur they don’t hold anymore. But we awe so blest to have 2 such pawsum cameras and da wunnewful awnties dat gave ‘em to us. Mommy found sum of da fotos dat we fawt we had lost in da puter cwash dat had been taken back in da beginnin’, and she was astonished at how bad they were and how much better they awe now. And it’s not cuz mommy became a furbulous fotogwapher. MOL Well weez gotta go cuz da stowms they be ragin’ and mommy’s tellin’ us to get off da puter, so weez’ll meow at y’all again soon. We just kuldn’t let a Sunday go wiffout countin’ a foo blessings. Take a little time today to just stop and count yous blessings. Ifin nuffin’ else, yous here today. You woke up and took a bweaff and met da day ahead of ya’. You awe all a blessing to us and we luv you very much. Hope yous weekend was just purrfect.
Hey y’all Lexi here again today. I really purreciate all your support an purrayers. This is the last of my Vet day posts. For the last three days we’ve been covering my latest appointment. We posted the link to my lab work Thursday and told ‘bout what happened at da VET; and yesfurday we told ‘bout what mommy and me did after we left da VET. We’ve been asked a lot of questions about just what is my diagnosis and what are we doin’ about it. So today we’re gonna cover all that. You’ve probably noticed the human speak, well we wanna make sure everyone can understand what we tell ya’ ‘bout my medicines and condition. So first, I do have kidney disease. My thyroid is okay and there’s no sugar in my urine, and the numbers from my tests confirm kidney disease. Although based on my latest lab work their does seem to be a small question as to whether it’s chronic or acute. What’s the difference you ask? There’s a few, but the most important difference is that acute can be cured and chronic can only be managed.
Now as most of you know the day doc diagnosed me he sold us a neutraceutical called Azodyl. It was expensive and mommy worried that she wouldn’t be able to afford it for long. Fanks to our wonderful furiends and awnties we were able to buy it for a few months. And then the day came that mommy had feared. We were out and she had no money to buy anymore. Of course as soon as we had gotten the news mommy started researching everything she could find and joined a very knowledgeable support group. During mommy’s research she had read about Astro’s products. So she contacted the creator, an M.D. and asked all kinds of questions. Still a little leary she staerted talking to the support group about them, and when we couldn’t afford my Azodyl mommy decided it was better to treat me with something than nothing. So she ordered the Astro’s Protein Powder because I lost so much weight, and Atro’s Nitrogen-Creatinine Scrub which takes the place of Azodyl. By this time some of our furiends had sent green papers and mommy could afford to buy them. As I said yesfurday most CRF diets are low in protein and phosphorous. And that’s great if you’re a doggy who could survive as a vegetarian. But when you’re a kitty what be an obligate carnivore, low protein isn’t the best idea. But as with most feline medicine the treatments for cats are based on those for dogs.
This be da protein powder and da scrub.
As cats, we need the protein to stay healthy and maintain muscle mass and weight. And since CKD can cause us to lose weight we sure don’t need to cut back on anything positive. Recent studies have proved CKD kitties do better on a high quality protein and low phosphorous diet. But proteins make our liver work harder and that’s harder on our kidneys. So it’s almost a lose lose. But in comes the Astro’s Protein Powder. It’s designed to help animals gain and maintain lean muscle mass and promote cellular regeneration. It’s a white fish derived, amino acid concentrate that’s pre-digested so that it’s easily absorbed by the gut. Because it’s concentrated and high quality very little waste product is created, therefore the kidneys have less toxins to filter out. In other words, it’s easier on the kidneys. That’s great news for CKD and many other ailments as well. Although this product was created with CRF in mind, it can be given to any animal who needs to gain weight and/or maintain muscle mass. It costs $32.95 for a 120gm jar. Or a little over $10.00 a month because 1 jar lasts about 3 months.
Now to talk about the replacement product for the Azodyl, the Astro’s Nitrogen Creatinine Scrub. It’s designed to use the digestive tract to trap and excrete metabolic toxins, transforming it into a rudimentary third kidney. And unlike the Azodyl, it doesn’’t have to be refrigerated and can be given in food. Or in my case the tablespoon of ham baby food I get each meal. It can be made even more effective by adding it to yogurt, but it’s not necessary. And it costs $22.95 for a 120gm jar (ie: about 2-3 months supply). Mommy prayed it would work because $23.00 for 2-3 months as opposed to $80.00 a month is a huge difference. And we know you all get tired of helping us and we hate to be a burden on anyone. But purrhaps helping with a smaller amount might be less burdensome.
Now I’m also taking Renavast. That was something that mommy had come across in her research but was also told about by Brian and Cheri. It’s more amino acids and peptides, just different ones, and helps too maintain normal kidney function in CRF cats and dogs. All of these products by the way have no reported side effects as they are all natural and can be used for both cats and dogs. Consult your VET if you’re a bunny, piggy, etc. I’m also taking vitamin B-12 supplements for overall health. And the Regeneril that Truffles and Ms. Melissa shared with me. It’s purpose is to increase appetite and energy and help with joint pain. The Renavast is $27.00 for a 30 day supply, the B-12 is $10.00 for about a 6 month supply and I’m taking Organic Slippery Elm Bark at $8.00 for about a 6 month supply for the upset tummies and acid reduction. Mommy also ordered for $20.00 some D-mannose to give to me and even Dezi in the event of a urinary tract infection caused by e-coli. Again since this is all natural it can be given to any animal even as a preventative. What all this means as far as money goes is that for less than the price of the Azodyl we can buy all the medicines I need. Because even if I was still taking the Azodyl, I would still need everything other than the Astro’s Scrub.
As always if you have any questions please ask and if we can answer them we will. As for those of you who think our VETs are cheaper, they most probably are cheaper than what you’re paying, but remember, wages are less here too, so for us; especially mommy who be on Social Security, our VETs charge a lot. Our $200.00 bill is like your $2000.00 bill. Altho’ we just don’t understand why it is that VETs think they need to charge so much. If you missed my lab work, can read it and would like to see it, you can click here.
Meowllo everypawdy. Oh it was so nice and purretty yesfurday. Well it wuld have been but da lawn crew was here literally all day long. They came before daylight and didn’t leave till almost 5 p.m. But me did get to enjoy a little sunshine and no rain before it got dark. It’s posed to stawt up again tonight, but at least we have one more dry day in the furcast. And it’s a good fing too. Sis Lexi and mommy be goin’ to da VET today. Pendin’ on what time you be readin’ this as to whether they are already there or not. They needed to have enuff peeps on staff to do tests. Mommy just hates dat they fink this way, cuz Lexi be weal good and dusn’t weally put up a fight. Me can tell ya’ ifin sissy didn’t tear up those idiots dat did hers last blood tests, she’s not gunna whacky paw our wegular VET. Mommy sez she’s gunna get a T4 test just to make sure there’s no thyroid issues. But as we told ya da udder day, sissy’s been duin’ purretty good. Weez’ll tell ya’ why in her VET update posty which we hope to post tomorrow. But it may well be Fursday dependin’ on how mommy and Lexi feel after getting’ home.
We also wanna fank all of ya’ fur yous purrayers, luv and support. And me weally wants to fank meez fellow Cat Scouts, Obi and furmily, Timmy and furmily and Cat and furmily fur helpin’ wiff sissy’s noms, medicines and pointments. Sissy’s gotten quite picky and doesn’t wanna eat da same fing 2 days in a row. MOL Duz she fink she’s hooman? And weez havin’ pizza today. Our facebook awnty Carrie sent sum gween papers to sis Lexi wiff hers Meowday cawd fur just dat. And wiff all da stowms weez not had it. So mommy purromised we kuld have pizza after Lexi goes to da VET. Our mouths awe alweady waterin’. MOL Weez duin’ our bestest to get in as many visits as we can durin’ this wedder bweak cuz mommy dusn’t let us be on da puter durin’ da stowms. So ifin weez not made it by yous place and commented yet, know dat weez on our way. Meez gunna keep it short and sweet cuz we need to make sum visits. Weez’ll see ya’ on da flipside. (meez always wanted to say dat, even tho’ me dusn’t zactly know why) MOL
