Chatting Cats: Eyes Of The Beholder

Raena:  Hey, Everypawdy, it’s me, RaenaBelle. You know, the younger, purrettier, in better shape, floofier, did I’s meow purrettier sisfur of Deztinee? (Raena stands on the bathroom vanity looking into the mirror

Raena walks on the sink at the Cat Motel in 2018

Dezi:  RaenaBelle Mayce!!! What are you up too, and what’s with the ego boost? Conceited much?

I’s don’t have a clue what you just meowed sissy. What’s an ego and how do ya’ boost it? Isn’t boostin’ another word fur stealin’? And what zactly does conceited mean? And what does any of that have to do with mine’s bootyful appearance?

Dezi sits with tongue out in front of door

What happened to you Raena? Don’t you know it’s rude to meow yourself a compliment? ‘Specially when you’re puttin’ somepawdy/kitty down in the purrocess.

I’s still don’t know what you’re meowin’ ‘bout sissy, I’s just meowin’ the truth. Mommy tells me every day how bootyful I’s is.

She tells me the same thing Raena. Me can guarantee ya’ she doesn’t think you’re more bootyful than me. So your description is a bit off. Now ifin you’d meowed somethin’ like, the more annoying, pesky, over zealous and bothersome younger sisfur, you’d’ve been totally on point.

Raena sits pretty on scratcher

That’s so not nice, sissy.

Neither was what you meowed. Now ya’ know how it feels.

Hmmmmpht  Aren’t you s’posed to be at the Tabby Cat Club today anyways, sissy?

Well yeah, but you know we’re not any good at those “caption it” fotos. So, me decided to see what everypawdy else posts this time and maybe me will post next month. Now quit changin’ the subject. You owe me a ‘pawlogy.

Not really sissy. You know mommy always says that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So, that means that there are lots of peeps that purrobably think I’s the purrettiest, I’s fur sure do. I’s mean, you’re purretty and all, but I’s think I’s purrettier.

Why don’t we ask mommy, Raena? Me bets she’ll put your ego in check. And ifin she doesn’t maybe me’s furry whacky paw will do it.

Sissy!!! I’s tellin’ mommy you’re bein’ mean to me.

Dezi lays on scratcher while Raena sits behind her

You do that Raena. In the meantime, me’s gonna have a bath and take a nap.

Chatting Cats: Raena’s KitNip Birthday Box

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. It’s been so crazy ‘round here lately and we’re so far behind, I’s don’t think we’ll ever get all caught up. Then mommy goes and says somethin’ like “All caught up is a relative statement, baby. Sometimes, life has to take precedence over play. If we want to keep a roof over our heads, then mommy has things she needs to do to keep that roof. And that sometimes means spending time running errands, making copies, calls and getting together all pertinent paperwork to re-certify our lease.” Hmmmpht How am I’s s’posed to argue with that?

Dezi sits atop the liberty cat tree and Raena lays on the top ledge

You’re not Raena, you’re just s’posed to accept it and be glad that mommy takes good care of us. Now, me thought we were gonna meow ‘bout that box we got just in time fur your Birthday last month.

Raena checks out the the KitNip box

We are sissy, I’s was just makin’ sure mommy knows how furustrated I’s am ‘bout all the time she’s spendin’ doin’ things that don’t include us havin’ fun or visitin’ our furiends. But, you’re right, that was a purretty fun box we got. The peeps at Kit Nip Box sent us one of their pawsum subscription boxes just in time fur mine’s Birthday. Unlike mommy with her birthday purresent, I’s had to wait to open mine’s.

Why don’t we meow a bit ‘bout the KitNip Box befur we get to what was inside.

KitNip box

Good idea sissy. The KitNip Box is a monthly subscription box filled with goodies fur the felines in your home. They have 2 different box plans, $19.99 a month and $29.99 a month. Fur $19.99 you get 5 purroducts hand picked fur kitty and 7 in the $29.99 box. Boxes are shipped out on the 1st and 15th of each month and your credit card is charged 1 – 7 days prior to each shipment. They currently ship boxes to addresses in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. Ifin ya’ live somewhere else, they say to call their customer service number to see what they can do to get a box to ya’. Shippin’ is furee fur the U.S. and $6.95 – $7.95 fur other countries.

Dezi sniffs toys from the KitNip box

Don’t furget to meow ‘bout the charity work Raena. Each month the KitNip Box peeps donate a portion of the proceeds and products to shelters, rescues, TNR efforts and other feline welfare causes, like the Paw Project, Wayside Waifs, SAAP and more. Y, any organization can apply fur help just by contactin’ ‘em.

Raena sniffs the Pure Bites minnow treats

We always luvs it when a company helps out those kitties less furtunate than us, don’t we sissy?. Anyways, let’s get on with the goodies inside that box. Our box had 5 toys and a bag of Pure Bites freeze dried fish treats; minnows the bag said. Let me tell ya’ those were the biggest minnows ever. Mommy says she used to fish and use minnows as bait, but, she’d never seen one as big as these. Seems the whole fish was freeze dried and cut into large chunks…too big fur us so mommy had to break up a piece befur we’d even look at it. As most of ya’ know, we’re not really fish eaters here and these treats were no x’ception. Uh huh, We weren’t havin’ ‘em. On to the toys. There was a couple different mousies that are just the right size fur carryin’ ‘round and playin’ with. And, there was a new wand toy with a soft plushie at the end.

Dezi turns her head away from the Pure Bites Minnow treat

That’s a big ole chunk ‘o minnow.

Did you see the umbrella Raena? Me still hasn’t figgered out what we’re s’posed to do with that?. Me kind’a liked the big yellow cat face. Mommy needs to soak it in some nip or silvervine and then it’ll be just purrfect to roll ‘round on. Ya’ know, as subscription boxes go, the KitNip box is okay. Me would give it 2 paws up, mostly cuz they give back to feline charities.

We received the KitNip Box in exchange for our honest opinion. As always, we tell it like we see it and only bring products we use or have tried and feel would be of interest to you, our readers and friends. All opinions expressed here are our own.

Yeah sissy, I’s agree. We’re purretty spoiled and have some of the bestest toys on the meow-kit. But, we think this would make a great gift fur any kitty in your life. I’s would give it 2 paws up as well. Mommy said she thought it was a bit overpriced, but it’s on purr/par with all the other subscription boxes out there. We were really x’cited that the peeps at KitNip Box are lettin’ our furiends and readers save 15% off their furst box when they use our special coupon code: DEZIZ. I’s sure did ‘purreciate receivin’ our box fur mine’s birthday. ‘Course I’s luvs gettin’ gifts any day of the week. Meowin’ of Birthdays, I’s hope we get somethin’ special fur mommy’s Birthday this weekend. You did meow that mommy celebrates us on her special days, right sissy?

Dezi looks over the toys from the KitNip box

She does Raena, but we should purrobably try to do somethin’ nice fur her too. Let’s go put our heads together and see what we can come up with.

I’s right behind ya’, sissy. I’s know the furst thing we can do is avoid purrjectile vomitin’. Anyways, we’ll see ya’ll soon.

Till the next time…………………………………………….Be Blest!!!

Blest Sunday: Furever Blest

MeOW  (Dezi sits atop the liberty cat tree looking out the door) It’s time fur Blest Sunday, so Thunderstorms, ya’ll just stay away. This is me’s day to post and me doesn’t wanna have to yell over ya’.

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

Raena:  Sissy? Who are you meowin’ too, I’s don’t see anypawdy outside?.

Dezi lays on the liberty cat tree looking out the door

Don’t worry ‘bout it Raena, it’s time fur Blest Sunday and me was just meowin’ how Blest we are. Spring, or rather Summer has furinally showed up and nature’s all a-flutter. The pawrents of those last birdies in the nest over the alarm on our door have been hangin’ on our walkway rails all day every day keepin’ watch over their babies and runnin’ off any other birdies that might come by fur a look see.

Raena watches the birds on the rail outside

Yeah sissy, they sure have been fun to watch. They take up their stations at each end of the rail till some unsuspectin’ birdy comes along and then they start chatterin’ and swarmin’ the intruder.

Male and Female birds on rail keeping watch over nest

Yeah Raena, they’re quite the sight to see. Me thinks a couple of cardinals teamed up the other day to see what it was they were purrtectin’.

Bird on rail keeping watch over nest

I’s saw that sissy. While the pawrents were chasin’ one cardinal off another came swoopin’ in fur a close-up. ‘Course that mommy bird must not have been too fooled cuz she came divin’ outta the sky and chased off the other cardinal. It made fur some purretty x’citin’ bird teevee…fur ‘bout ten minutes. I’s wanna know where all the squirrels have gone off too? And where’s our Coon furmily that comes up fur spam?

Well Raena, maybe the Coons figgered out we were broke. The last time they came up askin’ fur spam, mommy gave ‘em an old can of expired chicken chunks instead. Me doesn’t think they liked it nearly as much as they do that canned meat bi-product. And with all the rain and thunderstorms we’ve been havin’ it’s purrobably a little too wet fur ‘em. Mommy did see a bunny rabbit the other day. By the time she got the car door open and her new smeow-arty pants fone out and the camera app open, that bunny was long gone. Mommy even tried searchin’ fur him with the flashlight app on said fone; but, no bunny in sight.

That poor bunny must’ve thought mommy had one of those big woofies that chased him the other day.

Dezi lays with arm hanging over edge of the liberty cat tree while Raena bathes on the shelf below her.

Ya’ might be right Raena. Me would like to know where those woofies came from too? Me actually likes the big woofies much better than those heel nippers that run ‘round here without their humans, but our ‘pawrtments’ has a size and weight limit fur anipals and those woofies were fur sure too big. They might be the reason we haven’t had any squirrel teevee this year too?. They chase everythin’…even with their human attached to them by that leash. They just drag her right along with ‘em.

Yeah sissy, they may be funnier than squirrel teevee even. On another note, we need to say a meowsy big fanky fank ya’ to awnty Cindy. Mommy luvs the purrfume you sent fur her birthday. We luvs it too, don’t we sissy?

Dezi sniffs the Zanzi perfume gift from Cindy

Yep Raena, and it’s gonna smell much better on mommy than it does on the carpet. Mommy just couldn’t wait 7 more days to open it. She jumped in the shower the minute she got it so she could put some on.

Raena peeks out from the liberty cat tree and sniffs the Zanzi perfume gift from Cindy

And then I’s nuzzled up next to mommy’s chest to smell her sissy. I’s do luvs it when mommy smells so good. It reminds me of the sweet smell of luvs I’s felt the day I’s met her fur the furst time.

Dezi gets loving while laying in mommy's lap

Yeah Raena, me too. Anyways, this past week was full of Blessings fur all of us. Mommy saw her new dentist and really likes her. Mommy’s mouth is healin’ up nicely and she’ll be startin’ the purrocess to get her purrmanent dentures next month. We’re still waitin’ to hear from those nasty peeps at Aspen dental, but we’ve been purrayin’ that God will give us favor and make them return the green papers mommy gave them fur work they didn’t do; she needs it to pay the new place. Spring/Summer has arrived and brought warmer days and more Mr. Sunshine with her. That means we’ll be strollin’ befur long.

Ifin we can get rid of all the wets, sissy. We can’t go strollin’ in the rain and thunderstorms.

True Raena, but mommy says there’ll be purrlenty of dry days fur strollin’ soon. Anyways, mommy got that early birthday gift and reminded us how Blest we are to have such pawsumly amazin’ furiends. Fank you all fur sharin’ your lives with us. We luv you all very much. And as always, we’d like to remind you to take a minute today and every day to give Thanks fur the Blessings in your life.

Raena gets loving while laying in mommy's lap and squints for the camera

And don’t furget Sunday Selfies, sissy. We’re linkin’ up with the Kitties Blue like we do every week. We are furever Blest.

Furever Blest huh? Me likes that Raena. C’mon, let’s finish brekky and have a little nap befur the storms start up again.

Till the next time……………………………………………..Be Blest!!!

Service Cats: You Asked We Answered

MeOW  Welcome one and all to Service Cats and Everything Feline on Furidays. Step right up and get your every question answered. No tickets or green papers required. MOL Me’s just havin’ a little fun with ya’ today. But seriously, today is the day we try to answer questions asked by you, our furiends and readers ‘bout Trainin’, Health, Behavior and Anything and Everythin’ else. Mommy says that all kitty’s, just like children are much happier with a little bit of Training. We know not every kitty out there is going to be a Service Cat, but every kitty out there should be a well behaved and well luvved family member. And, that’s where these post come in handy. Ifin you’ve missed any posts in the series you can ketch up by clickin’ Training Tips and Everything Feline on our Menu above. You’ll find links to all relevant posts there as well as a contact form to submit your own questions or topic suggestions. You can also ask your questions in the comment section of this or any Service Cat post. Let’s get the business outta the way and get on with today’s topic.

Raena sits posing in her tiger harness

The followin’ post will be written in human English fur reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Trainin’ Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy A thru her many years of animal trainin’, cats in purrticular. And to offur insight into your questions about Everything Feline. Always remember, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

Dezi in harness

We often get asked questions that don’t require a whole post, or a variation of questions we’ve already written about. If we’ve already written about a topic and there’s nothing new to add or expound on, we will direct the asker of said questions to the previously written post(s). Please don’t think we’re not taking your question seriously. We take all your questions seriously and expect you to take our response seriously as well. If we’re sending you links it’s because we don’t have anything new to offer.

Dezi lays in wheelchair looking at camera

Anyways, here’s a question mommy A gets at least once a month. “Do you Train other people’s cats/dogs/etc.?” The answer is Yes and No. Mommy used to hold Training classes when she was involved with a Rescue group and lived in a larger city. She has done one on one in home Training when asked. Of course, we live in an area now where people don’t regularly teach their dogs to sit, so there’s not much call for advanced Training and certainly none for Cat Training. That being said, we’d be happy to come to you to assist in Training your beloved anipal; but the cost of travel, lodging and a meal a day would be your responsibility. Depending on the tasks you’re seeking to Train, you may be able to find a Trainer locally. Often times you can find Trainers thru your VET, the shelter or pet stores.

Shad lays on chair back

We’re asked a variation of these questions on at least one of our social media sites weekly: “How can you have Service Cats when the ADA says they can’t be? Where did you get your Service Cats?” First and foremost, the ADA does not say Cats can’t be Service Animals; they just don’t recognize them as such. If you’ve read Shad’s story you’ll know that mommy happened to have a cat at the time of her accident who Trained herself. Mommy then took what Shad did and developed Training Techniques to Train other cats. As for where mommy’s Service Cats come from…all have been rescued from one situation or another. There is no specific breed that makes a better Service Cat. And, other than Shad, mommy has Trained each cat herself.

Doberman clip art

The last question we’re going to address today is about implants. Yes, we actually mentioned those neuter implants the other day because we received a question about them. The question was: “How do you feel about ear cropping, tail docking and the surgeries required to correct floppy ears and other aesthetics for animals? Do you think my male cat would spray if he had implants after his neuter?” That’s kind of a loaded question. We’ll admit there’s nothing quite so intimidating as the look of a cropped, docked Doberman or Pitty; but who is that for? Yes, a floppy eared long tailed dobie isn’t quiet as menacing as his cropped counterpart, but he/she is still the same dog. Humans are so concerned about aesthetics that they often do things to animals that isn’t medically necessary and can cause major health issues.

Testicle Implants

permastay ear implants

The neutered cat or dog doesn’t really miss his testicles. Removing the testicles also removes the high production of testosterone. It’s the testosterone that causes a male to mark/spray and not the testicles themselves. The implants don’t actually produce hormones of any kind, so one would assume there wouldn’t be any spraying. But, there is absolutely no need for Fido or Fluffy to have implants. Often times those cropped ears have cartilage breaking resulting in a floppy ear and require further surgeries and implants to make them stand up straight. None of these surgeries are medically necessary for the health and wellbeing of the animal in question. We realize that breed standards may call for these procedures, but that doesn’t make them right. People should concern themselves with the health and well being of the animals and worry a lot less about their appearance. Please spay and neuter your pets. They’re much happier and healthier, and skip the implants.

Raena lays sleeping in the Gen7 stroller

Well there’s really no Training Tips involved in today’s post, but we do hope we’ve answered these purrticular questions to your satisfaction. These are only our opinions. We have a great post planned for next week about Planning For Kitty’s Future without you. Do you have any purrticular questions about this subject you’d like answered? What kinds of concerns do you have? Do you have a plan already in place? Don’t furget, you can ketch up on any post in this series by clickin’ on Training Tips and Everything Feline on our menu above. Purrlease leave your questions or topic suggestions in the comments below or send us an email via our Contact page. When asking behavioral questions, purrlease be as specific as pawssible. We’re also linkin’ up with Comedy Plus fur Feline Furiday.
