Hey dearest furiends, how are ya’? I’s feeling soooooo much better. Yep, the meds and your purrayers have done the trick and I’s eating and playing, and purring up a storm again.
And hissing and swatting at me sis.
Well Zebby, maybe ifin you weren’t such a pest, I’s wouldn’t do so much swatting. Somepawdy’s gotta put you in your place. Anyways, It’s National Check the Chip day. And, since this is something so impurrtant, we wanted to talk a bit about it.
We’re not always swatting at each other.
Check the chip day? What chip are we supposed to be checking sis? Do we even have any chips? I’s thought mommy ate ’em all?
I’s do Zebby, and soon you will too. I’s meowing about microchips. It’s a tiny little thing inserted just under the skin that contains a number that shows up on a scanner used by V-E-Ts or shelters when they find kitties or woofies roaming the streets without a human. If there’s a chip, then said kitty or woofy can quickly be reunited with his or her humans. At least that’s the hopes.
I’s just taking a little rest. I’s really do feel better.
Really Raena? Why would a kitty ever leave their human in the furst place? And why is it that I’s don’t already have one of these chips?
Well Zebby, not every kitty that gets away from it’s human did so on their own. And, remember how you used to dash fur the door every time mommy opened it? Sometimes a kitty or woofy gets outside and can’t find their way back home. Once upon a time, posters and word of mouth was the only way a family ever hoped to find their lost furry. Next came collars and name tags. Those are great, except they often get lost without kitty or woofy attached. The next great identifier was the tattoo. Y, Sweet Lexi had a tattoo in her ear. But, tattoos fade, fur grows over them and not everypawdy knew to look fur them. So, the microchip is the next evolution in identifying where a lost kitty or woofy belong. Of course, that means your human must keep their information up to date in the database. Y, It would be just terrible ifin somepawdy was to find your lost fur baby and try to reunite you by calling the number provided and it be disconnected or belong to someone else.
Oh Raena, that really would be pawful!!! So, why don’t I’s have a chip? You said you have one, and mommy says she luvs me, so why don’t I’s have one? Doesn’t she want me to come home ifin I’s somehow got lost?
Who’s being dramatic now Zebby? Of course mommy would want you to come home. The theory is that the insertion of the chip is painless. But, we know that’s not always true. I’s was an itty bitty skinny kitty girly when I’s got mine, and I’s screamed the most gut wrenching scream ever. Mommy says she still has nightmares about it. I’s’ll be honest, I’s don’t really remember it, but mommy does. So, she’s decided to get you chipped on your spa day. She says you won’t even know it happened. Now, Lexi and Dezi were both microchipped and didn’t even flinch. They were both healthy and had a little meat on their bones at the time. We believe that makes a ton of difference in the pain levels felt.
Oh Goody!!! I’s can’t wait fur my spa day. This is gonna be great!!!
(Raena thinks back to her spa day and wryly grins) Sure Zebby, just great. Anyways, the point of today is to remind peeps to have their pet’s chip checked. It can be done at any shelter, V-E-Ts office and often rescues will have a scanner as well. And, don’t furget to check your infurmation online and keep it up to date. Ifin your kitty or woofy isn’t microchipped, purrlease consider having it done. Most V-E-Ts offur chipping as well as shelters. Often times local pet stores have microchipping clinics a few times a year. Cost varies, but it’s really impurrtant. Ifin you luvs your furry, you can’t put a price on bringing them home…can ya’?
(Zebby runs into the living room carrying his new toy) I’s so excited, I’s can’t wait to get my very own chip. Hey, I’s wanted to thank awnty Vonda fur our new toys. I’s luvs mine. How about you?
