Hey dearest furiends, how are ya’? It’s actually chilly today; can ya’ believe it? Mommy says winter is coming.
What does that even mean Raena? I’s hear that winter is coming everywhere.
Well Zebby, I’s think the winter is coming you’re hearing means something different than what mommy means. Anyways, we’ve got a fountain we need to tell everypawdy about. As ya’ know, our favoritest fountain recently went out. It was also the only fountain we had left, so things got a bit crazy. Yes, we’re a bit spoiled. We’ve both grown up with fountains and don’t know the first thing about drinking still stale water from a bowl. With a broken fridge and mommy having to re-buy our food constantly among other expenses, she fur sure didn’t have the money to buy us a new fountain. Thanky thankfully awnty Susan sent us a new one. But, we were also contacted by the pawsum peeps at Laika Pets who sent us a cool fountain to review.
Disclaimer: We received the Laika Pet Fountain for free. As always, our opinions are our own and we always tell it like we see it. We only feature/review products we use or have tried and believe would be of interest to you, our readers and friends.
We are so Blest, aren’t we Raena? And, the Laika Pet fountain sure was a blast to play in.
Yes Zebby, we are indeed Blest. As fur the playing in the fountain…(Raena shakes head). You know that drives mommy crazy. You get water everywhere.
Whatever. Anyways, ya’ know how you blame the whole gotta drink from a stream thing on me? Well…Just exactly who is it that won’t drink unless there’s a stream? (Raena rolls her eyes) Anyways…The Laika Aqua Pet Water Fountain is made of BPA free plastic. If your kitty has a problem with feline acne, you might want to skip this fountain. There is no stream to drink from, so kitty’s face will likely come into contact with the plastic eventually (see photo below). I’s still young and we don’t use any other plastic items, so we didn’t know if I would have any issues or not. Ya’ know, mommy says ya’ never know till ya’ try. The fountain is currently on sale fur $45.99, down from $79.99. That price includes the fountain and 2 filters. We’ll talk more about the filters in a minute.
Replacement filter included. Removable water tank.
That we will Zebby. So, the Laika Aqua Fountain has two settings/modes, regular and eco-mode. As far as we can tell, regular means the fountain runs all the time and the eco mode means it only runs fur 15 minutes every 4 hours. This particular theme of fountains shutting off seems to be trending these days. In our opinion, it’s counter intuitive to have a fountain that doesn’t actually run all the time. Part of what attracts a kitty to drinking fountains is the running water. In other words, ifin it ain’t running, we’re not interested. And, the point of a fountain is to cut down on the growth of bacteria by having constantly circulating water. Most pumps are between 5 and 25 watts, so they don’t use much electricity to begin with. We should mention, the company suggests replacing the pump in this fountain yearly. We can’t speak to this particular pump, but we think that’s a bit excessive in general. It’s our experience that pumps should last at least 3 years or more.
Look’it, there is water in there.
There are 3 indicator lights on top of the fountain, a UVC light, filter replacement light and water refill light. There is an LED light in the fountain that is supposed to be used for the UVC cleaning phase, although there seems to be some inconsistencies about when it actually turns on. The one in our fountain only came on fur a few seconds a few times a day. Awnty Ellen reviewed this fountain, and said her light stays on all the time. So fur us, we found the light to be a useless feature in this particular fountain. As we’ve mentioned before, we find the filters in pet fountains to be a waste of money. They’re just another thing to get grimy, slimy, and have to replace. Mommy couldn’t figure out where the filter was supposed to fit in our fountain, so it basically just floated in the tank. I’s purretty sure that’s not how it’s supposed to go, but… Not a big deal since we use already filtered water in our fountains, but it’s something that really should be addressed in the instructions somewhere. One other thing we should mention is that the 2.7L water tank is completely removeable from the fountain base and all electrical components, so cleaning and refilling is simple.
Notice Zebby’s paws. The fountain is not responsible for the water all over the place. That’s all Zebby.
So, now that we’ve talked about the lights, the pump, and the filter, let’s talk about the running fountain itself. As we said before, this fountain doesn’t have any streams. The water is deposited into a shallow tray at the top of the fountain for drinking purposes. If you’re using eco-mode, you’ll need to make sure the water tank stays pretty full or there won’t be any water to drink during the 4 hours the fountain is shut off. This particular fountain is whisper quiet until the water level gets low. So, if that’s a concern for you, this fountain might be a great choice. We find a lot of people want a quiet fountain, and then complain that it’s not very tranquil because they can’t hear the water. When people say they want a quiet fountain, we assume they mean what mommy means. She doesn’t want to hear the pump churn away, but she does want to hear the sound of trickling water. BUT, if you’re wanting total silence, then the Laika Aqua fountain is fur you. And, because there are no streams, there’s little chance fur the Laika fountain to splash water on surrounding surfaces.
Okay!!! Okay!!! I’s’ll drink normally. Hmmmmpht!!!
Hmmmpht Unless of course, ifin you have a Zebby. As you can see by most of the photos, Zebby strew water everywhere.
Purrlease…At furst, I’s didn’t even know there was water in it. And of course, I’s had to keep checking it, cuz I’s couldn’t really tell. Anyways, I’s gonna give the Laika Aqua Pet Water Fountain 2 out of 4 paws. It’s whisper quiet, has an easy to clean and refill removable water tank, and is tons of fun to play in.
Thanky thanks Zebby. I’s think you’ve summed it up purrfectly. We also wanted to thanky thank awnty Ellen fur the green papers. Mommy was able to get a pound of meat at the local grocer fur Zebby to eat. And, while we were there, they found a package of meat that had started growing a bit of mold that they gave us fur free. So, we think we’ve got enough to get us to mommy’s payday. And, of course, we have all of you. We are so Blest.
That we are Raena. I’s so thankful to have noms. I’s gonna go link us up with the Kitties Blue fur Sunday Selfies. And then, I’s gonna send out some hugs to all our furiends.
Sounds good Zebby. I’s’ll join ya’ in sending out those hugs. As we do each week, we’d like to remind you to take a minute today and every day to Give Thanks fur the Blessings in your lives. Thanky thank you fur being Blessings in ours.
Till the next time……………………………………………………………………….Be Blest!!!

An excellent review, thank you. I wonder if mould growth within the pump housing itself is the reason it needs changing yearly?
Anyways, it does sound rather fun, even if it doesnt have a river to paddle in, Mol
Stay well, and hopefully the fridge and all will be fixed shortly.

That was super nice of Miss Susan to send you a new fountain! Zebby, I’m impurressed with the job you did at helping Raena with the review! It wasn’t until last year or so ago that I got my own fountain and I soon learned why there is so much hype about them. They are terrific! Like your new fountain, my fountain (of a different brand) makes a little noise when the water starts to run real low, but it is super quiet otherwise. I’ve been pretty happy with mine and so has Mom so if you are wanting another fountain in addition to the new one you got, let me know and I’ll have Mom send you a message.
