Happy New Year Dezi. We heard ya’ da furzt time. Da whole neighborhood purrobly heard ya’. What’z got you so eggz-sided today? 

(Dezi walks halfway down the Liberty tree and settles in on one of the shelves and meows) 

Oh sissy meez so happy. Da new year is here and you and me and mommy are all still together and da SUN IS SHINING!! Fur da furst time in days we have sunshine. It’s like da whole world knows today is a furesh start day.

A furesh start day huh. What on earth are you talkin’ about?

Well sissy sum humans make these things called resolutions. They say they’re gunna change up sumfin’ in their lives. A lot of times it’s fings like lose weight or quit sum bad habit they have. Altho’ seems more offen than not most peeps don’t actually keep those resolutions. Mommy sez she dusn’t make resolutions and never has. She sez ifin you wanna make a change you shuld just do it no matter what  time of year it is. So me thought ‘stead of a resolution me wuld post a challenge fur all our furiends. 

A challenge Dezi? I fink youz miz-understandin’ what a rezolushun iz. A rezolushun iz sumfin’ a purrson setz fur themselvez. 

Me knows sissy, me didn’t misunnerstand. But ifin peeps can’t keep da challenges they set fur themselves, then maybe they can keep one issued by another. Mommy sed it was a good idea when me talked to her ‘bout it.  

Well then Dezi, what’z da challenge?

You know sissy so many anipals was helped and found furevver homes this past year fanks to social media and lots of our furiends. So me wuld like to challenge everypawdy to help at least one more kitty than they did last year. Mommy sez dat all rescuers know “you can’t save them all”; but me finks ifin we all help one more than last year this year and then one more than this year next year and so on, then just maybe we kuld. We kuld fur sure save a few more than da year afur. And ifin everypawdy got on board then how many more fews wuld dat be?  

Well Dezi youz be right. Dat’z fur shur an argument I’z kan’t refute. So, did youz habz sumkitty to share?

Me sure duz Lexi. Hers name is Rachael and isn’t she a beauty?!! She’s in da Pauls Valley, Oklahoma shelter. She’s had a ruff road so far but is duin’ gweat now. She came to da shelter as a pregnant stray. She had hers babies and got a really bad infection and lost a breast. But she’s all healed up now and FIV/FeLV negative, spayed and current on all her vaccinations. She’s a purretty little calico girly dat wuld do best in a home all hers own. She’s a real luvver she is. Altho’ ifin you was to take innerductions slowly, she kuld warm up to another kitty or two. Ifin yous innerested in her you can call da shelter at: 405-238-1303. Pauls Valley only adopts kitties to inside homes and da adoption fee is $50.00. Now dat’s a steal fur a lifetime of luvvin’ ifin you ask me.

We Need Your Prayers

Well here we are just 2 more days till Christmas. Can you believe it? It’s been a crazy year here and has gone by so fast. Too fast really. As most of you know sis Lexi was diagnosed with CKD last January and it has been a roller coaster ride since then. Furst there was da trying to find foods she kuld eat dat she wuld eat. And not just once, but again and again. Overnight sissy went from da kitty who ate anyfin’ what didn’t eat her furst to bein’ as finicky as me. Talk ‘bout furustratin’ fur mommy. It sure is. And ifin CKD isn’t bad enuff, those same kitties are prone to other issues as well. So you never know what kind of day you’re gunna have from minute to minute.

You know since goin’ to BlogPaws sissy’s been duin’ purretty good. She’s had a few bad days, but mostly good. Mommy was hopin’ to ride dat high fur at least another year. But yesfurday sissy didn’t eat much bweakfastt afur she was off to have a meownin’ nap. Mommy didn’t worry too much cuz she had eaten a really big dinner da night afur. But later yesfurday afternoon, Lexi suddenly started pacin’ da floor and meowin’ her dispurrleased low yeowl. And then she threw up what little she did eat fur bwekky. Oh but it didn’t stop there. She then climbed in da litter box and only sprinkled a little. And what she sprinkled was nuffin’ more than blood drops. Yep, weez on da roller coaster and zoomin’ downhill. Yep UTI’s are commonplace in CKD kitties and sissy has another one. And yep, again da VET was out of reach. Yes we know we need a new VET but it’s not dat easy. Since we don’t have any where we live and have to dwive a good distance, we have to make sure we kuld get there ifin there was a real mergency. We have now twied all da VETs in da town wiff our current VET so now weez gotta start checkin’ a few other towns round us which of course takes time, money and gas. Sumfin’ we don’t have at da moment.

Mommy sez she dusn’t know which is worse, da kidney disease or all da illnesses and issues dat occur because of it. And of course everytime sissy takes a down turn, mommy gets terrified dat she won’t bounce back this time. So yesfurday she was hollerin’ at God and tellin’ Him dat He kuldn’t have Lexi yet, and dat she kuldn’t go thru another Christmas loss.  10 years ago sissy and mommy lost Lucky on Christmas and Ransom 5 years ago a little afur Thanksgivin’. Sissy posted an update on da fundraiser and we wuld purreciate any help you can give. We wanna say a meowsy big Thank you to all who have helped so far. We’ll fur sure keep you posted as to how sissy be duin’. We wuld also purreciate your purrayers.

You know this disease is pawful and altho it’s more common in older kitties, it can affect younger ones as well. While mommy was cleanin’ all da mess and dealin’ wiff sis Lexi one of meez fellow scouts made a purrayer request post at scouts. Meez furiend Mau from da Kitties Blue, you know da Sunday Selfie’s kitties; well hims sisfur Fiona was just diagnosed with CKD. At only 5 years old, this news has devastated da furmily. Purrlease send sum purrayers Fiona’s way too. They are tryin’ to stabilize her so they can come up wiff a treatment plan. Purrlease go by and share sum luv wiff them.

Neever of us awe ready to lose our sisfurs. Mommy sez we will enjoy Christmas and won’t accept sissy not bein’ here to share it wiff us. Black Cats and Halloween

Well da week is half over already and so is da month. We saw sumfin’ last night dat said there was only 65 days left till Christmas. Yes there was a panicked gasp here in our house, how ‘bout yours? Mommy says she sure dusn’t remember time flyin’ by so fast when she was younger. Anyways, Christmas will be here soon enuff. We wanna talk today ‘bout halloween and black cats. We talked a little da other day ‘bout safety tips for you, your pets and your children, but today we wanna focus on the least adoptable color of kitties in shelters.

Black kitties and cats still have a stigma attached to them. It’s hard to believe dat in 2016 these superstitions still purrsist. Oh they’re bad luck, or don’t cross da path of a black cat or you’ll die. We’ve actually heard these just this past year. Seems there was a stray black cat somewhere loose in our town. Unfortunately we never saw him/her, but enuff people did dat it was da talk of da town. Of course we tried to explain to these peeps ‘bout da pawsumness of these little black panthers, and we hope at least some of them heard us and changed their minds. You know black cats purr just da same as other cats and have just as much luv to give.

And you know what they all want? They want the same thing da rest of us kitties do. A luvvin’ home, with laps and toys and hands for pettin’ and arms for holdin’ and beds for sleepin’ and food for eatin’. In exchange they’ll give ya’ luv unconditional, purrs a purrlenty and entertain you with their antics fur hours on end. And ifin you’re da home designer type, they fit into any color scheme of home décor. But purrlease, don’t adopt a black cat just to fit into your décor  or halloween decorations. They deserve a furever home with lots and lots of luv.

 

Now all dat bein’ said, this time of year can be very scary and dangerous for da sweet black kitties. Me knows we like to think dat those groups who gather and make animal sacrifices are a thing of da past or are only in da movies, but alas, they still exist today. And halloween is a big night fur them. Black cats, all white cats and even da woofies are ask risk from these groups.

But maybe da biggest risk comes from bored teens and problem kids. And unfortunately almost every neighborhood has at least one of these. Mommy says no one can be more cruel than an experimenting bored teen. We prefur not to go into the details ‘bout what kinds of things they have done to these sweet helpless kitties, but needless to say da shelter would be a far better place fur da kitties and jail fur da teens. (just our opinion)

A lot of da shelters and rescues round here won’t adopt out black kitties in da month of October, and some do but they are very careful ‘bout da homes they’re placed in. Ifin you have a sweet black panther in your home, purrlease keep them inside and safe durin’ this season. And ifin you have any feral or stray black kitties in your neighborhood, maybe you kuld let them stay in your garage or screened in porch for da night of halloween and surrounding nights. Maybe the ferals won’t be all dat happy bein’ closed in, but at least they’ll be safe. And you know, sometimes mommys do know best and do things we don’t like fur our own good.

So me guesses what we wanna say today is keep da black kitties safe this season, and da next time you’re lookin’ to adopt a sweet little purr pal, take a second and even third look at da black cat starin’ at ya’ from inside dat cage. They just might be your soul mate or as some peeps call it, your heart kitty. We have lots of black kitty furiends, but mommy didn’t get it together enuff to ask ’bout sharin’, and she tried to make me black, but as you know her foto editin’ skills are really limited. MOL
