World’s Best: Blest Sunday #ChewyInfluencer

Well it’s time fur another Blest Sunday. You know me feels so blest to have a furever home with a mommy who luvs me more than anything and all our wonderful furiends. So when me can add a material blessing, me is always quadrupely blest. As you all know we luv Chewy.com and are thrilled to be pawrt of their blogging family known as #ChewyInfluencers. This month we got to try out a new litter. Well it’s new to us but some of you already use it. We’ve heard lots of good things ‘bout it so we couldn’t wait to receive it.

Dezi laying on the vanity
Me’s in da pawdee box room cuz me’s got a pawsum litter to tell you ’bout.

So what litter is it you ask? It’s da World’s Best Cat Litter Scoopable Multiple Cat Clumping Formula. We received da 7 pound bag. As most of you know, me is a big kitty who has a big litterbox. World’s Best says it works best with at least 2 to 3 inches of litter in da pan. Da 7 pound bag would be adequate for a small to medium size box. So mommy layered da World’s Best over me’s other litter so me could give it a try.

 World's Best Cat Litter

Chewy’s website doesn’t really say what makes up the World’s Best Cat Litter, but ifin you scroll over da foto it says it’s made from whole kernel corn and is 100% natural. And it’s flushable. Dat’s always a pawsitive in our books. They do make several different formulas. They all appear to be clumping but some are made with pine and some are scented while da one we chose is not. Truth be told, kitties don’t like scented litter. Companies do dat to appeal to da humans who do da buying. Below is a list of attributes listed about World’s Best Litter.

Key Benefits

  • Outstanding odor control
  • Quick clumping formula
  • 99% dust-free
  • Easy scooping
  • Pet, people and planet friendly

So what did me think about it? Well initially me kept smelling it and trying to taste it. So mommy had to mix it up with me’s current litter so me would use it fur it’s intended purr-puss. After mixing me used it without a thought. Me didn’t notice any dust so to speak when me was diggin’ so no sneezin’. It took care of me’s business so me gives it 2 paws up. Now let’s ask mommy what she thinks.

Is me supposed to eat this or pee on it?

Thank you baby. I’m glad you liked the World’s Best Cat Litter. I also didn’t notice any dust to speak of and love that it’s natural and flushable. I didn’t like seeing you trying to eat your litter, so there’s apparently a fragrance of some sort that you associate with food. But that was easily fixed by mixing it. And you made no further attempts once you had actually used it for its intended purpose. As you can see by the floor, it does track. The 7 pound bag is $6.99 and the largest bag at 28 pounds is $25.55. So pricewise it’s pretty equivalent to what we already spend on a bag of litter. It clumps nicely. So all in all I give it thumbs up too.

Thanks mommy. So this week was full of blessings. Paws up and thumbs up fur da World’s Best Clumping Cat Litter. Me has a real tasty treat to tell ya’ ‘bout this week, so you’ll have to stay tuned.  Dezi laying on cat tree and meowing

Oh Meowllo everypawdy, are you all happy dat it’s da weekend? Well me has a special treat fur you all today. Yep, me’s treat recipe posty was a big hit and so we’s gonna post another one fur ya’ today. Now ‘member these are treats straight from your kitchen and NOT nutritionally complete. We had one negative comment ‘bout how da last treat wasn’t species appropriate. To dat we replied, Not any worse than most of da pet food and treats on da market, and you don’t have to make it. So anyways let’s get on with our new recipe.

Sweet Dezi on cat tree

Now me wants to remind you dat you can use different proteins (meats) in most of these recipes. Mommy doesn’t like to feed us fish, so she often substitutes chicken, rabbit or duck fur da protein source. And these treats are edible by all da carnivores in your family. Another trick me furgot to tell you ‘bout last week is dat mommy often adds catnip to da recipe. Today we’re gonna take a little trip down under to Australia fur our recipe and we’re gonna make Kangaroo Hoppers. This recipe makes approximately 20 – 30 small balls.

Kangaroo Hoppers

1/2 pound shrimp, cleaned

1 Tbsp. Kelp powder or catnip

1/2 tsp vegetable or olive oil

1 Cup crushed Corn Flakes (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°

1. Clean and de-vein shrimp.

2. Boil until pink and cooked through

3. When cool, Puree shrimp and add Kelp powder/Catnip and oil

4. Roll into small balls and then roll through the Corn Flakes to coat (Corn Flakes add a little crunch)

5. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet or parchment paper for 10 – 15 minutes.

6. Cool and Serve.

7. Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge

Alas, no kangaroo in da Kangaroo Hoppers, but they are good. Now some of you are saying…kelp powder? Yeah, kelp powder is actually full of minerals and Omega fatty acids. It’s also a source of protein. Now we all know there’s nothin’ nutritious bout da corn flakes, but they do help add a little crunch to da bite. Ifin ya’ try these, let us know how they went over in your house.

Me’s joinin’ Rascal and Rocco fur da weekly Pet Parade Blog Hop as always. Mommy told me last night dat she had some secret plans dat might result in a surprise fur me, so we’ll be ‘round to visit ya shortly. And me guesses we’s all gonna have to wait to find out ’bout mommys’ secret plans.

Do you like soft or crunchy treats better?

What are some favorite proteins in your house?

Disaster Strikes! Are You Ready?

Well we finally got a little break from da storms yesfurday and me got to visit a lot of ya’. Dat weather guesser says we should be in fur sunshine startin’ tomorrow afternoon. Me sure hopes so; me hasn’t been fur a stroll in furever. Me did get da sads while visitin’ as there have been quite a few kitties who have joined sis Lexi this week includin’ me’s furiend Spooky from 15 and Meowing. Mommy says da sads are cuz our brains know they’re in a better place now and no longer sufferin’, but our hearts just can’t make sense of it all. Me can attest to da makin’ no sense fur sure. Purrlease lift up and support your furiends, loss is hard on us all.

Dezi cocks head to the side in thought

You know with all da storms we’ve been havin’ lately and knowin’ dat tornado season is comin’ up soon, me had been thinkin’ ‘bout writin’ a posty on disaster purrparedness. We’s posted one befur but we think it’s a really purrtant topic so there’s nothin’ wrong with postin’ every year. And yesfurday one of me’s furiends and fellow cat scouts made dat very suggestion. It’s better to be purrpared and not need it than to be caught in a disaster with nothin’ but da purrverbeal shirt on your back. So dat there’s no confusion, me’s switchin’ to human speak so everypawdy can understand.

Dezi close up on arm of chair

As me said, we have tornados, flooding and high winds, but no matter what weather patterns are prevalent in your area the following applies to all disaster/emergency circumstances and all pets.

You should have a First Aid Kit for your pets on hand at all times, and keep it’s contents up to date and fresh. Me will cover what goes in that kit shortly. You should also know which, if any shelters in your area are pet friendly. A lot of shelters are only for humans and only allow Service Animals because of the laws. Please don’t pass your pet off as a Service Animal. You might also want to check for pet friendly hotels/motels in your area. A last resort would be boarding. Check with your VET, shelter, groomers, etc. for boarding facilities in your area and know their policies. Most boarding situations require the animal to be up to date on all vaccinations.

 ASPCA first aid kit

Please don’t leave your pet at home alone in the hopes they will survive and you’ll be reunited. Altho’ they will be stressed, they will be far more comfortable being with you than trying to weather the “storms” by themselves. It’s a good idea to get your pet comfortable with their carrier/PTU before a disaster.

Be sure to have a list of emergency numbers on hand and in your First Aid Kit. Your cell number along with your VETs number and a family members number should be on that list. Keep current photos of all pets on hand and make sure your pet has identification with up to date contact information. Updating your pets microchip information is usually free. We use a company called Pet Link. You can register all your pets microchips with them for a nominal fee; and then all updates are free.

 Pet Link Microchip company logo

We’ve recently learned that emergency personnel look on the fridge for information about the residents of a dwelling and any medical conditions, etc., so it’s a good idea to put your pets information there as well. Things such as how many and what species of animal lives in your house as well as VET information and any medical conditions/special instructions for them should be listed. Mommy keeps photos of us/me on the fridge and on the back of the photo is our name, age, and any special instructions. In me’s case, it says me is a Service animal named Deztinee, and that me also answers to Dezi. Me’s age and what food me eats is also included along with mommy’s cell phone number and our VETs number. Just in case, mommy also keeps a photo just like this on the front door and in the glove compartment of our car.

The next thing you need is a small bag for your pets that contains at least 3 days worth of food, litter and (disposable) litterbox (for cats and other small animals), water, a favorite blanky/you scented shirt or bed, food and water bowls or paper plates and disposable spoons. A pooper scoop and plastic bags for disposal and a toy or two. Treats and nip are optional. Mommy also likes to keep an extra leash and harness in our bag in case there’s a problem with the one we’re using. Paper towels for clean up, a small washcloth and towel are also handy items to have. Often a hard shell carrier/PTU can double as a litterbox if you use liners in it.

Dezi in stroller looking out

Now let’s get to the contents of that First Aid Kit. You’ll need the following if your going to make your own:

1. Current photos of your pet and any proof of ownership in a plastic baggy. (vet records will suffice)

2. Phone numbers for you, your Vet, and an emergency contact person who is not in your area and might not be affected by your emergency. Phone lines and cell towers may be down.

3. Gauze pads and adhesive tape and/or the sticky wrap

4. Cotton balls and swabs

5. Hydrogen Peroxide

6. Disposable Gloves

7. Scissors and tweezers

8. Antibiotic Ointment and Anti Itch Cream

9. Oral Syringe and/or Turkey baster

10. Alcohol

11. Styptic Powder/Pencil

12. Claw Clippers

13. Artificial Tear Gel

14. Band Aids (mommy keeps a few in our kit for her if she gets bit or clawed while trying to trim claws or care for a wound-they don’t take up that much room)

15. Any medications your pet may need. If your pet is diabetic, you’ll need ice packs. And keep some insulin in an easily grabbable baggie in the front of the fridge, clearly marked for emergencies. Syringes can be kept in your kit or packed bag at all times.

16. Liquid dish soap such as Dawn

17. Flashlight

19. Saline Solution

20. Ice Pack

21. Disinfectant

Be sure to check your kit every 3 months or so for expired items. Always keep your kit fresh and up to date.

Altho’ this is not a comprehensive list, it’s pretty close to it. You can purchase a First Aid Kit instead of making your own, but you will need to add a few things to it especially if your pet requires medications. These kits vary in price depending on where you buy it.

Dezi on cat tree with mouth open

Well me sure hopes this helps. Remember, your pet will be frightened and nervous during a disaster, so any preparations you can make in advance will make this time less stressful for all of you. And trust me when me says, we would much rather be with you than fending for ourselves. Please Don’t leave us behind. You wouldn’t leave a baby or two year old behind…

Do you have a Pet First Aid Kit?

Do you have an emergency bag packed?

Are you ready should disaster strike?

Till da next time………………………….Be Blest!!!

Straight From The Dead Sea

Well!!! Oh, meowllo everypawdy and welcome to miserable Monday. Seems kinda strange me would have a Blest Sunday and then turn round and have a miserable Monday huh? Well it’s just a sayin’, but ifin you was here lookin’ out me’s front door you would think it was miserable too. We don’t have many flowers in bloom ‘round here, but da ones we did got really beat up in yesfurdays’ storm. Me had all these online plans, but we couldn’t even get da catputer online; there was flashin’ red lights everywhere. Pawrently dat’s bad. Those lights are ‘posed to be steady green. So mommy turned it off and said it was too dangerous fur us to be workin’ on da ‘lectrical stuffs. Well ifin me couldn’t be online, then me would just take up me’s spot behind da chair again. MOL

Dezi cocks head to the side in thought

Anyways, a while back we were asked ifin we would like to try some Dead Sea products by a company called SOOS Pets in Israel. You know sis Lexi used to scratch herself and make little sores cuz of da itchy skin she had befur we got da new humidifiers.  Lexi with Soos Pets Rescue Cream on chin

When it arrived sis Lexi had scratched a little sore on her chin dat was purrfect fur tryin’ out this cream. Mommy took a little dab and applied it to sissy’s chin. Da Rescue Cream is a very thick textured paste and is white in color. It has a very light fragrance, and a little goes a long way. Unfurtunately sissy left us befur da cream healed her wound. But we weren’t through testing. Me told you all dat me had (accidently) attacked mommy durin’ all da confusion after sissy left, so mommy started using the Rescue Cream on herself. Hey it’s all natural and there’s nothing in it dat says it can’t be used fur humans too. Mommy decided to focus on one scratch in purrticular. A few fotos later and mommy hoped da healing process had started. There was no stinging or pain associated with the application of da cream, and da slight fragrance dissipated quickly. Mommy applied da cream twice daily fur ‘bout a week befur noticing any changes in da scratch. It took a little over a week to completely heal, and she does have a scar, but remember this was a scratch on a human and not a hot spot, etc..

All in all mommy liked da SOOS Pets Mineral Enriched Rescue Cream. Because of da texture and color you can see where it’s applied. It’s a nice size at 1.69 ounces, and as we said earlier, a little goes a long way. We always luv cruelty free and natural products. So me gives it a paw up and mommy gives it a thumb up. You can check out all da SOOS Pets products here.
