Chatting Cats: Breaking Mews And Updates

Raena: Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Storms, storms go away and don’t come back any day.

Dezi lays on tissue paper in front of fireplace

Dezi: Uh Raena, me doesn’t think you’ve got that sayin’ right?. Not that it matters, just meowin’ somethin’ isn’t gonna make it happen.

Raena lays atop the Liberty cat tree

Are you sure sissy? Mommy says the Bible says “ask and you shall receive.” (Mt. 7:7)

Oh Raena, (Dezi shakes her head) furst, you’re paraphrasin’ that scripture. But, more ‘purrtantly, that’s not what it means. And, since ya’ paraphrased it, you missed the most ‘purrtant pawrt, ‘bout askin’ in Jesus name. But really it means spiritual things and really ‘purrtant stuffs, like healin’ and things. While me might not care fur the storms any more than you do, they’re typical in the area we live. And, while it might mean we don’t get to go fur strolls, the ground and farmers who farm the land, really need the rain. Summer’s comin’ and you’ll be complainin’ ‘bout the heat in no time. Besides, you got to get out yesfurday with mommy and go to the dentist.

Raena sits pretty on the floor

I’s did sissy, but that wasn’t any fun. Mommy furgot to put a towel down in the new stroller and I’s got all wet. Fanky fankfully, she had some paper towels in the car so she was able to dry us both off. And as usual, the nasty peeps at Aspen Dental did mommy dirty again. It’s a real shame, cuz we had just met a new dental assistant that mommy really liked. He’s ex military and really nice. Mommy says she really ‘purreciated how nice and respectful he is.

Dezi sleeps on brown tree in front of window

Wish me could have met him. Did ya’ll make sure to fank him fur his service Raena?

Of course we did, sissy. We never miss an oppurrtunity to fanky fank those who serve our Country and fight to keep us safe. I’s thought he might cry when he told mommy the office manager said they didn’t want mommy to come back and they weren’t gonna make her lower denture. He said they were tired of mommy wantin’ them to do things right and to make mommy’s denture look good and fit propurrly.

Dezi sleeps on the tissue paper

So, after upsettin’ mommy and tellin’ her that she still owed $800.00 and makin’ her sign a new contract; due to their incompetence, they’re voidin’ their own contract? These peeps just don’t know when to stop. (Dezi shakes her head)

 Raena sleeps in Gen7 stroller

I’s just gonna have a short nap.

Yep sissy, I’s thinkin’ the same thing. ‘Specially since in all this time mommy hasn’t lost her tempurr not once. No screamin’, callin’ peeps names or cursin’. They have no idea how lucky they are to have never known mommy’s wrath. We’ve gotta go back next week to hopefully pick up mommy’s upper denture. We’re sure purrayin’ hard that it fits this time. And hopefully, mommy can find somewhere else to go to finish all this up. It sure has been an ordeal and quite furankly, we’re all tired of it. Anyways, let’s finish brekky and see ifin mommy will let us play with our hexbugs. Since they run off batteries and not ‘lectricity, mommy has no reason to keep ‘em from us. And hopefully these storms will pass soon and we can visit all our furiends.

Chatting Cats: Mommy Is Feeling Proud

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. Sissy, Aren’t you thru checkin’ unner the bed yet? I’s purretty sure nuffin’ got in the house since the last time you checked!!! Mommy says the silly weather guessers have issued warnings fur every town and county ‘round us, but left us out.

Dezi lays in cat bed looking up

(Dezi meows loudly from UTB) Ifin we’re not s’posed to be havin’ all these storms then what’s that loud noise that keeps bangin’ the roof?!!

 Raena lays on tissue paper

Mommy says it’s those ice balls called hail. I’s haven’t figgered out the difference t’ween hail and sleet. Seems they’re both ice that rains down from the sky and makes a lot of noise. Anyways, mommy says she was really purroud of you last night fur stayin’ out and eatin’ your dinner even tho’ it was stormin’ outside. So I’s was thinkin’…

What did me tell ya’ ‘bout thinkin’, Raena?

Raena lays on tissue paper

Sissy…I’s only tryin’ to help. Anyways, I’s was thinkin’, ifin you could come out last night and eat your dinner, then you oughtta be able to come out today and eat your brekky and hang out with mommy and me.

Dezi licks paw while laying on tissue paper

(Dezi slinks down the hall to the living room focusing on the door) Hmmmm, Why didn’t you tell me brekky was ready?

 Raena lays on tissue paper

I’s thought you heard mommy hollerin’ fur ya’ fur the last 10 minutes and then sing our brekky song.

Dezi bathes while laying on tissue paper in front of the fireplace

(A loud clap of thunder is heard overhead. Dezi, flattens and looks around. Seeing Raena still eating and mommy A sitting calmly in her chair, Dezi decides to continue to eat. Mommy beams with pride at Dezi’s actions) Me sure hopes that these storms go away and soon, Raena. Guess we oughtta be really glad we got in those strolls last week. Doesn’t look like there’s gonna be any strollin’ this week.

Raena lays atop the liberty cat tree

May be sissy, but I’s gonna look on the pawsitive side and believe these nasty storms will pass by us today. You know, mommy says havin’ a pawsitive attitude is half the battle. Y, Look’it you, I’s believed with mommy that you could hang out with us in the livin’ room even tho’ it was stormin’ outside. And there you are, purrettyin’ up in front of the fireplace. Can’t you see how purroud mommy is of you?

Dezi bathes while laying on the tissue paper in front of the fireplace

Yeah, well, ya’ll shouldn’t get any big ideas, me might need to check fur intruders again soon. We better wrap this up befur the catputer blinks. We couldn’t get in any visits with our furiends fur the last few days cuz the catputer keeps shuttin’ down.

Dezi and Raena lay atop the Liberty cat tree

I’s know sissy. But I’s think mommy’s the reason the catputer’s been shuttin’ down. You know she doesn’ like us to be on it when it’s stormin’ outside. She says she can’t affurd to replace it ifin it gets hit by lightnin’ or somethin’. We’ll just have to hope our furiends unnerstand and know that we’ll visit as soon as we can. In the meantime, let’s go play.

Blest Sunday: Strollin’ And The Mystery Blogger Award

RaenaBelle, hurry up. It’s time fur our Blest Sunday posty. Mommy says the weather guessers have said it’s gonna storm; so we’ve gotta get our posty written befur the heavens start rumblin’.

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

I’s comin’ sissy. What’s with the stormin’ meows? I’s don’t want anymore storms. I’s thought spring was s’posed to be here?.

Yeah, well, spring or not, you know it storms here a lot.

Dezi lays in wheelchair watching Raena inside the stroller

That I’s do, sissy. That’s kind’a why I’s don’t get why you wanna run hide when you hear the furst rumble in the sky? You’d think you’d be used to it by now. After all, it’s not like you were born yesfurday.

Dezi's profile looking out into the street from the stroller while outside

Uh? Me thinks you’re callin’ me old Raena. And ifin you are, that’s not very nice. Besides, how many times does me have to tell ya’, me’s not hidin’. Me’s makin’ sure you and mommy are safe from any critters that might try to get in the house and hide unner the bed. Anyways, me was really happy to see mr. Sunshine come out this week. It warmed up enuff fur mommy to take us fur a few strolls.

Raena sits in stroller while outside

What fun we had, right sissy? I’s luvs to go strollin’ with mommy. I’s even met a couple of the neighbor ladies. They wanted to make over me and pet me and talk ‘bout how soft mine’s fur is. I’s wasn’t real fond of all those hands comin’ at me all at once, but I’s sucked it up and let ‘em manhandle me. I’s sure mine’s beauty made their day.

Hmmmmpht  Conceded much Raena?

Raena looks out of stroller

I’s don’t even know what that means, sissy. Anyways, I’s heard all kinds of noises and even saw a herd of deer out in our woods. Did you see ‘em when you went out?

Dezi looks out of stroller at the bobcat in the woods

Look’it mommy, it’s the bobcat!!!

Nope Raena, me didn’t see any deer, but me did see that old bobcat we used to feed. Least me thinks it was her. She was watchin’ mommy and me from the woods. She had a purretty good hidin’ spot, we almost missed her. Unfurtunately, mommy scared her when she went fumblin’ fur the camera. Then when she tried to take a foto of that old bobcat runnin’ away, the camera slipped and all mommy got was a foto of the sun settin’. It’s actually a really nice foto, just not what mommy was tryin’ fur.

 Sun Set from the stroller

Yeah sissy, mommy’s not the greatest fotographer in the world. Least she tries. I’s guess that’s what counts. And, mommy said it was good to see the bobcat. Maybe we’ll see more of her this year. I’s not got to meet her yet.

Dezi rests her head over the edge of the stroller while outside

And ifin mommy has anythin’ to say ‘bout it Raena, you won’t ever get to meet her. Mommy says she’s not like us. Even tho’ she looks furiendly, she’s a wild cat and not meant to play with us.

Really sissy? You call me wild all the time, what’s the difference?

Dezi looks full on at the camera while sitting ion the stroller outside

Your wild is kitten energy Raena. Her wild means she’s not used to hangin’ with peeps and she actually kills most everythin’ she eats. X’cept those times when everypawdy ‘round here puts out food fur her. She’s kind’a like our lion and tiger cousins you watch on the teevee; pretty to look at, but not suited fur home livin’. We’re so Blest to be homey kitties and have such a pawsum home with mommy.

We are at that. It’s just too bad sissy, I’s sure wanted to meet her.

Dezi looks out of the side of the stroller while outside

Well, maybe you’ll see her one day while you’re out strollin’ with mommy. You can wave to her, just ‘member to keep your distance. In other words, stay in the stroller where you’re safe.

Close up of Raena's face in stroller

I’s do feel safe in our new stroller sissy. I’s luvs the tethers. They’re strong enuff to make sure we can’t escape or get hurt, but still long enuff to let us move all ‘round and take in the view. I’s just wish the wind hadn’t been blowin’ so hard when I’s was out.

Dezi looks out the side of the stroller while outside

Me too, Raena. All that wind was blowin’ our winter furs all over the place. Still, it was really nice to get out and take in some furesh air. The neighbor even came out to see me. Mommy wouldn’t let me get out and walk ‘round tho’. She said the exterminator had just sprayed the yard and she didn’t want me gettin’ poison on me’s paws. It’s the furst time he’s sprayed the outside in five years. We hope that helps cut down on all the scary bugs that try to get in the house like the scorpions, spiders and fire ants.

Fleas and ticks too sissy. We fur sure don’t want any of those.

Sure ‘nuff Raena. Altho’ me’s purretty sure mommy will take care of that fur us. Anyways, we are so Blest that we got to go out fur those amazin’ strolls this past week. Me can’t wait fur more.

Raena looks out the stroller while outside

Me either sissy, me either. Meowin of Blessings, we wanna fanky fank uncle Pete, Timmy and the furmily fur the green papers fur somethin’ special. Mommy didn’t say what she was gonna get us yet, but she purromissed to get us somethin’ we’d really like. And fanky fanks to awnty Lene fur the green papers fur me to get a bacon burger the next time we go to Ardmore. That stinkin’ dentist office has upset mommy so much at her last few visits that we didn’t even get to stop fur a special treat. Now mommy has no x’cuse, awnty Lene said so.

You better get enuff  to bring home some fur me too Raena.

          I’s will sissy, don’t worry.

Me also wants to fank all of you fur bein’ our furiends. We fank God fur all of you each and every day. We’d also like to fank our sweet furiend Ali fur nominatin’ us fur the Mystery Blogger Award. Ali be a fellow Cat Scout and gawjus tabby. She doesn’t blog a lot, but you can check her out here. Service Cats: How Do We Respond To The 911 Operator

MeOW Welcome to Service Cats and Everything Feline on Furidays. We spent the last 3 weeks givin’ ya’ll a little background into how long it took fur us to learn some of the tasks we purrform fur mommy. Ifin ya’ missed any of those posts you can read them here, here and here. And don’t furget you can check out all our Trainin’ posts by clickin’ Training Tips and Everything Feline from our menu. We’ve covered lots of great topics and offured tons of Training Tips that are good fur not only kitties but woofies too. Keep those questions comin’. We dedicate these posts to answering any and all questions you may have regarding the health, behavior or anything else you wanna know ‘bout your anipals, cats in purrticular. Leave your questions and/or post suggestions in the comments below or send us an email via our Contact page. Let’s get the business outta the way and get to today’s topic.

Raena in tiger kitty holster

The followin’ post will be written in human English fur reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Trainin’ Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy A thru her many years of animal trainin’, cats in purrticular. And to offur insight into your questions about Everything Feline. Always remember, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

We’ve discussed our Training to call for help by using a land line telephone many times. In response to that we were asked,What do you do when a call is answered? Are you trained to meow a certain number of times? As we stated last week, part of our telephone training is learning to listen for the voice on the other end of the phone signaling that our call has been successfully made. Mommy says she’s been blessed with chatty kitties. Meaning, we love to chat it up…all the time. MOL

Raena learning to dial the phone.

Anyways, before we answer this question, let’s take a look at how emergency calls are handled. And remember, It’s a Crime to call 911 if you don’t have an emergency. So, if you’re Training your anipal to call for help, be sure the phone has been disconnected, or better yet, use a pre-programmed number to a friend or family member that can imitate the response of an emergency operator. Or maybe you would rather have a friend or family member be your emergency call. With the ability to pre-program numbers into your land lines, it makes calling for help that much easier. There’s fewer buttons to Train your anipal to dial. It is our opinion that cell phones can’t be used by your anipal to call for help. So, if you need your Service Animal to perform this task, you must have a land line with basic service. We use Magic Jack at a cost of about $40.00 billed yearly for unlimited calling anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.

Dezi lays on the heated cat mat with the phone

Now, let’s take a look at that Emergency Service call. When a call comes in to an Emergency Services operator, they can see the number the call is made from and the name and  address associated with that number. That means they already know where they should send emergency personnel. Again, this is when using a land line. Altho’ most places have implemented GPS locators for cell phone users calling 911. Some telephone companies work in conjunction with Emergency Services to provide additional instructions displayed to the 911 operator when an Emergency call comes in from certain numbers. Years ago mommy filled out one such form that told the 911 operator to send an ambulance if they received a call from our number and either heard nothing or only meowing. You might check with your local phone company or Emergency Services to see what options may be available to you in your area.

Dezi stands on cat scratcher with phone

So, what is it that we do when we call for help? First let me tell you that in all the time me’s been with mommy, we’ve thankfully not had any such emergencies. However, mommy makes sure to keep our Training current just in case. When mommy falls or passes out, we get quite worried and don’t like to leave her side. That being said, we’re Trained to make that emergency call and start meowing when we hear a voice on the other end. Altho’ it’s not uncommon for us to start meowing the minute mommy falls or passes out. Typically, we meow in the direction of the phone, run to mommy, back to the phone and then back to mommy again. We are Trained to repeat these steps a few times before finally settling in beside mommy until help arrives or she can get up and around. Me’s particular love of the phone means that me will often bring the phone with me to rest at mommy’s side. And, like Shad and sis Lexi before me, me has been known to make calls to other pre-programmed numbers from time to time. As me’s told you before, me does love the telephone. Mommy says me’s a typical teenage girly curious cat.

Raena learning to dial the phone.

As for Raena, she has this signature “hum” sound that she’s made from day one when she jumps up/down or starts to run. She tends to “hum” a couple of times before starting to meow. She’s not nearly as obsessed with the phone as me is. Mommy says that’s a good thing. At least we don’t fight over who’s going to make the call. The bottom line is that if you want to Train your anipal, you must have a land line phone. What they do after making the call is up to you. Any call made to Emergency Services must be investigated. So, even if your anipal doesn’t meow or bark, police will be sent out to the address on file.

Well, that’s a wrap for today. Always remember, Training is all about Repetition and Rewards. If you’d like to read the Training Tips on how to Train your anipal, click here. We also discussed options like the “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” buttons/boxes here. Remember to leave your questions and/or topic suggestions in the comments below or send us an email. When asking behavioral questions, purrlease be as specific as pawsible. You can check out all the Training Tips we’ve covered so far by clicking on Training Tips and Everything Feline from our menu. We look forward to hearing from you. And don’t furget to meet us here each week when we answer all your questions about the furry purrers in your life.
