Blest Sunday: Emergency Preparedness and Prayers

Hey Raena, do you know what day it is?

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

Sure I’s do sissy. It’s time fur our Blest Sunday posty. You know what we haven’t done in a while?

What’s that Raena?

Dezi and Raena in a photo frame welcoming friends

We’ve not welcomed all our new furiends. Ya’ know, we say ifin ya’ come by once, you’re a visitor, ifin ya’ come back again, you’re family.

That’s right Raena. We’re so happy to have so many pawsum furiends. Me’s sis Lexi always said we had the bestest furiends in the universe. And, me’s sis Lexi was hardly ever wrong.

I’s sure wish I’s could’a met her sissy.

Dezi atop the Liberty cat tree

You would’a liked her Raena. But, ifin she was still here, you wouldn’t be. Mommy says things work out the way they’re s’posed too. We might not unnerstand why things happen the way they do, but, God has a plan fur everythin’ and we just have to believe He’ll take care of us.

Raena lays on the back of the chair

Like all those hurricanes, sissy? I’s sure don’t unnerstand why they have to happen. We’ve got so many furiends bein’ affected by ‘em. I’s really worried ‘bout their safety.

Me too Raena, but all we can do is purray fur them. Fankfully, there are lots of peeps comin’ together to help out. You know, we saw a lot of those helpers last night on the chatter box.

I’s was so happy to see all those peeps reunited with their furry furmily members. And, to learn that the laws were changed so that anipals had to be included in all rescue effurts. Peeps are furinally startin’ to unnerstand just how ‘purrtant us anipals are to our humans. I’s know mommy would never go off to save herself and leave us behind. And now, the law’s on her side and she wouldn’t have too.

Dezi lays on chair

Yeah Raena, me’s happy ‘bout that too. So offen in the past, anipals have had to fend fur themselves, cuz rescuers and shelters didn’t allow anipals to accompany their humans durin’ disasters of any kind. Even tho’ anipals can now accompany their humans, steps should still be taken to make sure we could be reunited in the event we were to get separated.

Like our microchips, sissy? Ya’ know, I’s wasn’t crazy ‘bout gettin’ that thing to begin with. But, ifin it helps to make sure I’s will always be with mommy, I’s glad I’s got it.

Dezi bathes atop the Liberty cat tree

Yep Raena, our microchips are a purrfect way to identify us and help make sure that we’ll always be with mommy. But, the microchip alone won’t work ifin ya’ don’t keep the infurmation updated with the chippin’ company. Our chips are registered with Petlinks. Mommy checks our infurmation at least a few times a year. Since not too much changes ‘round here, that’s all she needs too. But, ifin we were to move, change our noms, require meds, or change VETs or anythin’ else, mommy would need to update our profiles’ to reflect those changes. Could you ‘magine us bein’ separated from mommy and not gettin’ the food we’re used too? As ifin bein’ scared wouldn’t be bad enuff, but then, we might not even eat cuz the food would be wrong.

 Raena lays in mommy's lap

Not that we’d eat anyways, but it’s a good idea, just in case. It’s also a good idea, to have copies of our chip nummers, mommy’s fone nummer and VET records in an emergency bag in the event we had to evacuate or somethin’. And, our peeps should also make sure to keep some fresh noms and bottled water, food and water bowls, a first aid kit, any meds or supplements we might need, leashes, harnesses/collars, some litter, a small box, a comfurt blanky or nip mat and maybe even a toy or two should also be in our emergency bag. You can check out our post here fur a list of things you should have in the event of an emergency.

Dezi with bowed head praying on the pet steps

Those are some great suggestions Raena. We are so fankful that mommy’s purrpared. While it’s unlikely we’ll be hit by a hurricane, we are subject to tornadoes, wild fires and even earthquakes. We’ve heard from many of our furiends in the path of the current hurricanes, and we’re so happy that they are all still together. But, there are many peeps and anipals that aren’t. We’re purrayin’ fur all those in need. We’re very blest to not be facin’ these storms ourselves and to be home safe and sound with our mommy. We are also blest to have so many amazin’ furiends. We’d like to remind you all to take a minute today and every day to give thanks fur the blessings in your lives and to say a little purrayer fur all those in need.

Raena lays in mommy's lap and gets loving

We’d also like to remind everypawdy that wants to help to check out the many ways you can by clickin’ the links here. We’re joinin’ the Kitties Blue fur Sunday Selfies and sendin’ lots of hugs to all of you. Fanky fank ya’ fur bein’ our furiends. Purrlease, stay safe and ifin you’re in the path of a storm, keep in touch so we can all know how to purray and/or help. And join us tomorrow fur another Service Cat Monday posty.

Chatting Cats: Freeze Dried Mixers #ChewyInfluencer

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBele. I’s so worried ‘bout our furiends in the paths of these storms. I’s not a scaredy cat, but I’s don’t really care fur all the storms we have. They upset mine’s sissy, and that’s enuff to make me not like ‘em. But, mommy says our thunderstorms are nuffin’ compared to these hurricanes.

Dezi lays atop the liberty cat tree

Raena, how many times does me have to tell you, the storms don’t scare me? But me too is worried ‘bout all our furiends. Me’s thinkin’ these hurricanes just might scare us all. Me knows we’ve been purrayin’ hard fur everypawdy. Mommy says that Irma got a tad weaker, but she’s still goin’ strong and headed straight fur Florida and some our furiends. And, those in Texas are still realin’ from the hurricane that hit them. Me just wishes our world could stop with all the hate over pawlitical agenda’s and just ban together.

Raena lays on small perch and looks out at the rain

Me too sissy. Hey, do you think mommy might oughtta order some more noms fur us, just in case the folks at Chewy have to evacuate? Ya’ know, they’re offices are located in Florida too.

 Chewy Logo

Yep Raena, me was just thinkin’ that too. Ya’ know, Chewy’s been doin’ their pawrt to help out the victim’s of these storms too. And, meowin’ of Chewy, we got some great mixers to review this month. As most peeps know, we eat a freeze dried raw diet and luv it. Mommy says it’s the bestest thing she’s done fur us in a long time. We’re happier and healthier than ever. But, she also says it’s kind’a ‘spensive, so anytime we get the oppurrtunity to try a freeze dried raw purroduct, we jump at it.

This is a sponsored post. We received the Instinct Rawboost Mixers in exchange fur our honest review. As always, we tell it like we see it. Neither Chewy or Instinct is responsible for the opinions expressed in this post unless otherwise stated. We only bring products we use or have tried and feel would be of interest to you, our readers and furiends.

Raena sniffs the Instinct Rawboost Mixers

Instinct Rawboost Mixers

I’s luvs the raw food we eat sissy, and I’s luvs tryin’ out new flavors and brands of freeze dried raw. Knowin’ how much we like rabbit, mommy couldn’t wait to order the Instinct Rawboost Mixers fur us. They come in 6 ounce bags of chicken or rabbit and cost $11.99 and $13.99. Now, ya’ need to ‘member, these are meant to be added to your kitties regular food, as they’re not a balanced food. That bein’ said, let’s see what Chewy says ‘bout the Instinct Rawboost Mixers

 Instinct Rawboost Mixers

The ingredients look purretty good Raena. There’s none of those questionable ingredients our humans like to avoid. Now, the instructions suggest adding these mixers to the top of kitty’s food to entice them to eat more. However, since they’re not a balanced food item, mommy likes to put them on the bottom of our plate so they’re the last thing we eat. You know, kinda like you humans have a dessert after a meal, we get a tasty little treat at the end of our meal. We’ve had these befur, but Instinct has made some changes to the packagin’ and the size of the nibblets. Mommy used to have to cut/break them in half to make a bite sized piece, but, they’re now small enuff to add to our food without any cuttin’ or breakin’. They are kind’a dense and hard and don’t soak up water quite as fast as our regular noms, so mommy suggests usin’ warm water and waitin’ a few extra minutes befur servin’. Fur those reasons and the tastyness of them, me gives them 3 paws up.

 Instinct Rawboost Mixers

Great points sissy. I’s think the Instinct Rawboost Rabbit Mixers are purretty tasty too. And I’s agree they’re a nice bite size right outta the bag now. I’s give ‘em 3 paws up too. Mommy says she’s happy with the ingredients and that we both seem to like them. Mommy says they’re not cheap, but nuffin’ freeze dried is. Mommy said she wishes they were ingredient balanced so they could be served as a complete meal, but, they do make a nice occasional addition to our regular noms. So, mommy gives ‘em a thumb up too.

 Raena eats Core shreds

As fur Chewy, we give them an all paws up as usual. Great purroducts at great purrices and speedy free shippin’ always make us happy. You can also set up an auto ship so you never run out of your pet’s favorites. Don’t worry, you can always skip, cancel or delay at anytime. You can also make changes by addin’ or removin’ items up till the day befur your auto ship order ships. And, Chewy customer service is great. And, like we said earlier, they’re doin’ their pawrt to help all those affected by these horrible storms. So, head on over and check ‘em out. You know you wanna try these mixers too.

Dezi lays atop the cat tree

C’mon Raena, let’s go play. Mommy says we’re gonna have to help her clean house, cuz we have a surpurrise comin’ next weekend.

Right behind ya’ sissy. I’s can’t wait to find out what our surpurrise is.

Chatting Cats: Breakfast Is Comin’

(While leading the way down the hall to the kitchen, Dezi hears the familiar buzz of the lawn crew. She stops dead in her tracks and looks back at mommy crawling along behind her and then back towards the front door.)  It’s okay sweety, keep goin’ it’s just the lawn crew. Let’s get to the kitchen and get ya’ll some breakfast.

Dezi licks lip as she looks around the corner from the dining room

(Getting agitated at the hold up and wanting to look out the door, Raena walks passed mommy and nudges Dezi. Dezi and Raena touch noses and Raena stands on her back legs and puts a paw out to Dezi.) C’mon sissy, I’s hungry and I’s wanna see what they’re doin’.

(Dezi hisses and begins to slowly walk towards the kitchen again. Raena steps back beside mommy and nudges mommy a few times) Me better get some extra luvvin’ today. That’s all me’s sayin’.

Dezi lays in the wheelchair while Raena meows t her from the top of the stroller.

(Once they all get to the kitchen and mommy starts making the girls breakfast, she starts to sing one of her made up songs to the tune of Christmas time is comin’) Breakfast time is comin’, breakfast time is comin’, breakfast time is comin’ and it won’t be very long… Dezi and Raena eatin’, Dezi and Raena eatin’, Dezi and Raena eatin’, their breakfast till it’s gone… Lovin’ Dezi and Raena, I’m lovin’ Dezi and Raena, I’m lovin’ my Dezi and Raena, Dezi and RaenaBelle… Don’t worry ‘bout the lawn crew, don’t worry ‘bout the lawn crew, don’t worry ‘bout the lawn crew, cuz soon they will be gone.

(Dezi sits uneasily while watching and listening to mommy repeat the snappy little tune over and over again. Raena walks over and they touch noses again, just as the lawn crew comes up on the porch with the loud leaf blower) Hisssssssss

(Dezi runs down the hall and then back to the kitchen where she rubs against mommy’s legs)  It’s okay Dezi. C’mon, breakfast is ready. (Mommy puts the girls breakfast plates down, sits in the sitting chair and starts drinking her coffee. Dezi starts eating while Raena goes to the door to look out at the lawn crew and have a little bath)

Dezi eating

Raena, you better come eat your breakfast or mommy’s gonna be mad.

Raena bathes while sitting on the perch in front of door

I’s wanna watch all the commotion. Besides, mommy doesn’t get mad at us, no matter what we do.

Maybe not mad, but she does get upset when she has to tell us to eat a billion times each meal.

Why do ya’ reckon she does that sissy. I’s might wanna graze a bit and take mine’s time. She says eatin’ slow is good fur your digestion.

Yeah Raena, but slow doesn’t mean 3 hours. Anyways, while you were watchin’ the chatter box last night, did you hear ‘bout the new hurricane swirlin’ ‘round out there?

Raena sits on cat tree looking up at Dezi

I’s sure did sissy. And, I’s even sat in mommy’s lap while we looked online at all the displaced anipals. It’s so sad that so many anipals have been separated from their families and lost their homes. I’s can’t even ‘magine how they must feel. I’s get scared when mommy goes to the trash without me.

Yeah Raena, me might enjoy havin’ a little alone time when you and mommy go out, but me’s always glad when ya’ll get back home. Me’s so worried ‘bout our furiends in the path of these horrible storms. We’re fur sure purrayin’ hard that they’re all safe and stay together.

 Raena lays on cat tree

We sure are sissy. And, did you know there are sites where peeps can go to help out with donations and other things? We read where a lot of peeps from far away are volunteerin’ to foster, or come down to help with the clean up and so much more. It’s times like these that make me so purroud of the human race. With all that’s goin’ on and all the dissension in the world, it’s nice to know, we can all come together in a crisis. There are so many places that we can’t list them all. But you can check those listings here, ifin you’d like to help.

Dezi walks toward the food bowl while looking back at Raena not in foto

Fanks fur tellin’ everypawdy where they can go to help Raena. And fur those that can’t help physically, you can always purray. Purrayer does change things and helps a lot. And, ‘member to make sure your pets are microchipped and/or have some form of identification on them at all times. You never wanna find yourself in a situation where you’re separated with no hope of ever being reunited. Well, we better go finish brekky now that the lawn crew’s gone.

Do you have a plan in the event you get separated from your furry family members?

Are your pets microchipped?

Service Cats: Managing Without A Wheelchair

MeOW and welcome to a brand new Service Cat Monday. Yes, we know it’s Labor day, but we don’t really celebrate it here. We find it strange that one would celebrate laboring by takin’ the day off. Back when mommy worked, she always worked on Labor day, so, we will too. With the wheelchair breakin’, things have really changed ‘round here. Lots of you had some very good questions ‘bout how things work when the wheelchair’s broken and how we adjust; so today we’ll be meowin’ ‘bout a day in our life without the wheelchair. Let me get the business stuffs outta the way and we’ll get to it. The followin’ post will be written in human English fur reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat Monday posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Trainin’ Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy thru her many years of animal trainin’, cats in purrticular. Ifin you have any questions or topics you would like us to cover, purrlease let us know in the comments section or send us an email. When asking behavioral questions, purrlease be as specific as pawssible. And, ifin you’ve missed any of the posts in this series, you can ketch up by clickin’ the links at the end of this post. Always remember, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

Dezi laying in cat tree in new harness

So, the questions are: “With the wheelchair broken, how does that affect your day? Is it confusing and how do you help your mommy?”  As we’ve said before, generally mommy only needs the wheelchair first thing in the morning. However, she will often use it to take out the trash or check the mail. When she does this, she usually drives it herself and we watch from the door or window. Thankfully, mommy discovered that the wheelchair was broken while taking out the trash. One of the motors is out, so all the chair does is go around and around in circles. So, instead of taking the wheelchair to the bedroom at night, mommy covers the control panel so we don’t attempt to retrieve the chair in the morning. This change in our normal routine is very upsetting and confusing for us. But, mommy is ever patient and understands that we are confused. She gently guides us through our new routine with voice commands, gentle reassurance and lots of extra loving.

Raena sits and poses in her new tiger harness

The first morning, and every morning after goes something like this:  We wake up as normal and start in with our morning massages. We’ve got to help mommy get the blood flowing to her extremities and wake up the muscles and nerves in her arms, legs, hands and feet. Me has lived through several wheelchair breaks, so me takes to the new routine much quicker than Raena who starts bouncing off the walls. Raena’s confusion is manifested in her running through the house to the wheelchair and back and the bathroom and back several times. Me continues to massage mommy while she gently tries to calm Raena and get her back on the bed, to help me roll mommy onto the floor.

 Raena lays on shower bench

Finally, Raena seems to tire herself out and returns to the bed and lays down beside mommy and begins to massage her and purr. Mommy calmly and softly tells Raena and me how proud of us she is and how much she loves us. Me takes me’s head and begins to push mommy’s legs over the side of the bed while mommy tells Raena to push. This is part of our normal routine, although we’re usually pushing mommy into the wheelchair. Still looking confused, Raena starts to help me push mommy closer to the edge of the bed. With one last push, mommy falls to the floor with a thud. Raena quickly jumps down and starts licking mommy’s face. Me jumps down and tries to help mommy roll towards the bathroom. Mommy pulls herself to the bathroom with her barely awake arms and starts pulling herself up to the sink/potty using the shower chair/bench and finally the vanity. Raena jumps up on the shower bench to watch, and me takes me’s place on the vanity.

Dezi lays in the wheelchair while Raena meows t her from the top of the stroller.

When mommy finishes in the bathroom, she gently lowers herself to the floor and crawls to the kitchen. Me takes the lead in front of mommy with Raena prancing slowly behind her. Thankfully, mommy’s arms warm up pretty quick so she can pull herself onward. Once we get to the kitchen, mommy pulls herself up and leans on the counters to make her a cup of coffee and our breakfast. On good days, mommy’s legs are tingling at this point and she can furniture walk to put our plates down, get her coffee and get to the sitting chair. On bad days, mommy again lowers herself to the floor and carrying one plate at a time, pulls herself to the living room to place our plates in their spot and her coffee on the side table beside her sitting chair. Either way, we stay at mommy’s side until she’s safely sitting in the sitting chair.

Dezi watching Raena while they eat

While mommy takes her medicine, enjoys her coffee and lets her body warm up, we eat, and keep a close eye on her. Hopefully, we’ll get a new wheelchair soon. In the meantime, this is our new normal. Well, guess me will wrap this up now. Remember, if you have any questions or topics you’d like us to cover, leave them in the comments or send us an email.
