Gently Dried Beef Hearts #ChewyInfluencer

Hey, is anypawdy there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. We don’t normally post on Tuesdays, but we have another pawsum Chewy review we wanted to tell you about, so mommy said I’s could post it today. I’s thinkin’ that I’s getting’ purretty good at this bloggin’ thing, wha’d’ya’ think?

Dezi lays on the arm of the chair

Raena!!! Quit askin’ fur compliments!!! It isn’t pawlite.

 Chewy Logo

Whatever sissy. Not pawlite.? I’s’ll have to look that up on google later. Anyways, right now I’s wanna talk ‘bout the pawsum Chewy Blogger Influencer program. Ya’ll know that each month we get the oppurrtunity to try out and tell ya’ll ‘bout some really amazin’ and offen tasty purroducts. ‘Course you also know that we always tell ya’ the truth. We are so grateful that Chewy purreciates our honesty and doesn’t penalize us fur it. That’s a purretty good reason to shop with a place ifin ya’ ask me. And we’re glad you all have come to trust us, cuz we do tell da truth. Mommy says Chewy’s Customer Service is just as pawsum. She says she can shop with absolute confidence, which was really nice when me furst came to live here and she didn’t know what kind of foods I’s was gonna like. Not to worry, when she ordered with Chewy, even ifin she ordered the wrong thing, they would make it right. And you all know how much I’s luvs me a Chewy box. OMC  They are the bestest.

Raena plays in a chewy box

Raena, you kinda wrote a disclaimer. And me luvs a great chewy box too. Are you gonna get to the treats any time soon?

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. We received compensation for our honest review. All opinions are our own unless otherwise stated. We only bring products we use or have tried and feel will be of interest to you our readers and friends.

Yes, sissy. I’s getting’ there. When I’s was a little girly, mommy bought me these yummy heart treats. No, not the ones shaped like a heart, but real freeze dried heart organ treats. I’s luvved ‘em and so did sissy, but mommy couldn’t ‘member anythin’ ‘bout ‘em. So this month when Chewy offured us the oppurrtunity to try out the Evanger’s Nothing but Natural Beef Hearts Gently Dried Dog and Cat Treats, 3.5 oz. bag, we jumped on it. Furst, let’s go see what Chewy and Evanger’s says ‘bout these heart treats.

Key Benefits

  • Single ingredient beef hearts are nutrient dense treats that can be a treat, training award, food topper, or reconstituted in warm water for 3-5 minutes for a savory snack.

  • Grain-free, gluten-free product, endorsed by the cRc Kosher for Passover.

  • No additives or artificial ingredients

  • Highly palatable treats are perfect for finicky or picky pets

  • Suitable for both dogs & cats

Raena sniffing the evanger's beef heart treats bag

We always luvs a purroduct that has an ingredient list we can read and doesn’t contain any of those controversial ingredients. These Evanger’s Beef Hearts fit that bill to a tee. Nothin’ in the bag but good ole beef hearts. Now let me tell ya’, there’s a big difference ‘tween Freeze dried and Gentle dried; and ‘tween organ meats and flesh meats. Anyways, mommy opened the bag of Evanger’s hearts and kittens, was she shocked!!! Inside the bag were these long strips that looked a lot like jerkey. Well, you all know sis Dezi and me like little bites, so as we waited rather impatiently, mommy took one of those strips and began to break it up. The beef heart strips were really hard and a little brittle, so they broke fairly easy. Mommy broke a couple of bite size pieces off to give to us and also gave us each a small strip. She thought it might be somethin’ we’d like to chew on ourselves. Ya’ know, kinda like a raw hide chew.

Raena looking at the Evanger's beef heart strip

Well, she was wrong. When was the last time you saw a kitty gnawin’ on a raw hide? Mommy says she had a kitty that luvved things like that, but I’s can tell ya’ us girlys’ ain’t into that. Dezi and me both turned our noses up to that option really quickly. So mommy gave us the small bites she had broken off and took away the long strip. I’s sniffed ‘round ‘em fur a few seconds and took a piece in mines mouth and then spit it out. I’s looked at mommy and meowed ‘bout how these beef hearts was a bit on the hard and chewy side. So mommy took one of those strips and soaked it in some water to make it a bit softer. Yeah, I’s didn’t really like that either. What a bummer. Such a pawsum treat, bein’ good fur ya’ and only the one ingredient. But ifin I’s won’t eat it…I’s do have to give up 2 paws up, cuz it’s a quality treat and I’s can ‘magine doggies fur sure likin’ ‘em. Sissy? Do you wanna tell everypawdy what you thought?

Dezi sniffs the Evanger's beef heart treat

Sure Raena, fanks. Like Raena said, the Evanger’s Gently dried Beef Hearts are a good quality treat that can be fed to any of your meat eatin’ pets. They are large strips that are pretty easy to break into smaller pieces. They don’t have much of a smell, and we don’t think they reconstitute very well. ‘Course mommy only let the strip soak for just under 15 minutes (the bag recommended 2-3 minutes). Maybe a little more time would have purrduced a softer treat?. Anyways, me sniffed at the Evanger’s Beef Hearts a little and then turned mes nose up. Me didn’t even put a piece in mes mouth; so me can’t really say much ‘bout how they taste. Me agrees with Raena. These beef hearts would make a great treat fur doggies, and we’re sure there are kitties out there that would like them. We’re just a little spoiled and like a little softer treat. Cuz of the ingredients and the good fur ya’ factor, me will give these treats 1 paw up.

Raena bites the Evanger's beef heart strip

Fanky fank ya’ sissy. Evanger’s also offurs these treats in beef liver, beef tripe, wild salmon, beef lungs and beef tongues. All formulas are on sale right now. Ifin you’d like to try any of these good fur ya’ treats, you can get them fur $6.43 to $9.23. The sizes vary from 2 oz – 4.6 oz bags. Chewy offurs speedy free shippin’ on all orders over $49.00 and speedy flat rate shippin’ on all other orders. Chewy also has a great auto ship program that allows you to save an extra 10% and receive your pets favorites on the schedule you choose. But don’t worry, you can skip, cancel or delay at any time.

Service Cats: When To Train: Before or After a Meal

Hey, is anypawdy there? It’s Service Cat Monday, and guess who it’s all about? That’s right, Me, RaenaBelle.

Raena lays in the wheelchair

RaenaBelle Mayce!!! Get off the catputer!!! Me’s writin’ the Service Cat posty. Even ifin it’s ‘bout you. Me wants to remind you all that ifin you’ve missed any of the posts in this series, you can click on the links at the bottom of this post. As with all our educational posts the following will be written in human English. Ifin you have any questions, purrlease leave them in the comments or you can send us an email at: lexi.dezi@yahoo.com. Our posts are not meant to be a training manual, but to entertain and educate; as training is all about repetition. We can cover in one post what might take weeks or even months of actual training time. Me thinks mes hit all the high points and disclaimers, so let’s get to it.

Dezi lays in wheelchair

When we left off last, mommy was training Raena in the wheelchair. Now, it’s not all that important that we know how to turn on the wheelchair unless we’re going to drive it without mommy in it. Sis Lexi had that mastered. Me? Me prefers to drive from mommy’s lap. It’s much safer and me gets extra loving. That being said, mommy realizes that Raena is very smart, and just might be the next solo driver. But even if she isn’t, the reason mommy trains us on this is that the power button, horn and speed buttons are all very close to the joystick. On more than one occasion me has hit those buttons while driving; so mommy thinks it’s important for us to be comfortable with the beeping sounds so we don’t get scared and get hurt trying to escape. The joystick requires only the slightest push or pull to move the chair. So you can imagine the dangers of a 200 pound moving machine against a small kitty. Yes, even at our size, we are by comparison, small.

Raena plays in the gift bag paper

We did get another good question from our dear Weim brofur Da Phenny from the blog EasyWeimaraner. You know sweet Easy ran off to heaven like sis Lexi and Phenny, like Raena is full of piss and vinegar and needs a little training. He and his mommy asked if mommy recommends training before or after a meal. This is where it gets a bit tricky. Mommy prefers training after the meal because she doesn’t like to train with treats. So a full kitty/doggy isn’t constantly looking for treats and can easily focus. That being said, if you do want to use treats as a reward, mommy recommends training before the meal. But don’t forget to adjust the meal portion to account for any treats given. And keep the training session short. A hungry animal is going to be a bit more erratic and unfocused. Mommy likes to train about an hour or so after the meal. Kitty/doggy has bathed, the food has settled, they may even have had a little nap and are more focused and ready to pay attention. Another thing on treats, if you choose that option. Pick a treat that isn’t given at other times and is an absolute favorite. That treat should only be given during training sessions or when asking the animal to do a trained task. Hope that helps.

 Raena lays in the wheelchair

Anyways, every day for approximately fifteen minutes, mommy and Raena head to the wheelchair for a training session. Even me gets bored after the first few lessons and have taken to the bedroom for an afternoon nap during these times. Me can still hear them. Mommy gently and lovingly talking to Raena and telling her how proud she is and how smart Raena is. And me can hear the constant beep beep of the chairs power button. Occasionally me hears the annoying horn. Ya’ know those cars/trucks/vans that beep when they back up? Well that’s the horn on the wheelchair. It’s piercing for a poor kitty’s ears, but Raena doesn’t seem to be affected by it. She loves the horn button. Ever patient, mommy gently tells her no and redirects her paw to the power button. For those of you wondering why she isn’t hitting the joystick and making the chair move, mommy has learned to keep a close eye on where that paw lands, and has the speed turned to 0. Obviously the chair doesn’t move on 0. Just wait till Raena figures this out. MOL

So mommy’s still working with Raena on the power on and off thing. But Raena is getting better. Mommy thinks she likes the beeping of the horn so much that she doesn’t focus. But one day, it’ll click and the lessons will move forward. That’s how training works. So if you’re feeling frustrated and don’t think your training is working, stick with it. It is working and the worse thing you can do is give up.

 Dezi lays in the wheelchair

Let me take you through one of Raena’s lessons. Mommy and Raena sit in the chair. Mommy adjusts Raena and sits her on her right leg closest to the control panel. She now tells Raena “Up”. That means to put her front paws on the arm of the chair. Raena’s really good at this part. Mommy supports Raena by firmly but gently holding her in place. Raena could easily jump down. Mommy’s grip is for support and protection, not forced submission. Mommy then places Raena’s paw on the power button on the control panel and says, “Push on” or “Push off”. Raena seems to be right pawed. Generally the first time, mommy has to gently push Raena’s paw down till she hears the beep. The remainder of the 15 minutes goes pretty much the same. With Raena occasionally getting excited and standing on the horn. When this happens, mommy gently pulls her paw away and says “No” and refocuses her (lots of hugs and praise about how smart she is). Throughout the session mommy gently praises Raena and gives her extra love. This is very important if you’re not using treats. If you are using treats, you would reward by giving a small treat each time you get the correct action/outcome. They wrap up a training session with lots of hugs and a good brushing.

Well we’re gonna wrap it up fur today. We hope we’ve offured you some insight into training in general and specifically a Service cat. Remember, if you have any questions, just let us know. We do hope to be further along in Raena’s training next week, but you’ll just have to tune in and see. We’ve got mommy’s helper that’s supposed to start today, so mommy’s gonna be busy training them. Hmmmmm Mommy seems to be doing a lot of training lately. MOL Wonder ifin she’s gonna train them to drive the chair? MOL  Anyways, we hope you all have a pawsum day.

Blest Sunday: Love and Acceptance

(Mommy rolls up to the kitchen counter to make breakfast for Dezi and Raena. Dezi sits and watches from a perch on the brown cat tree. Raena comes zooming up the hall, around the corner and leaps onto the top of the stroller. Mommy starts singing one of her many made up breakfast songs and Raena jumps down and runs over to rub against mommy’s legs. And she spots her new favorite prey toy. Raena grabs the toy and begins her hunt, catch, kill routine, while mommy finishes preparing the brekky plates.)

Dezi sits on the brown cat tree in her signature pose

Me sees you found your new favorite prey toy Raena.

Raena lays in mommy's lap
This is about as good as it gets. Mommy tried to find a foto that showed off mines long arms, but…

I’s sure did sissy. I’s so blest to have such long arms. I’s even found mines second favorite prey toy too.

(Raena tosses the toy in the air and catches it and runs down the hall and back to the kitchen. She drops the toy, bats it around a bit until it gets pushed under the refrigerator. She then lays down and stretches her arm under the fridge and feels around for her “prey”. She tries to flatten herself out enough to see under the fridge. Chortling happily, her arm emerges with the prey toy attached to her claws and she grabs it up in her mouth and tosses it in the air again and again.

Mommy finally announces breakfast is ready and turns to make her a cup of coffee. Dezi runs to the living room with Raena following suit. Halfway there, Raena turns and goes back to the kitchen to wait on mommy. Mommy puts the plates in her lap and heads to the living room. Raena saunters slowly in front of mommy, tail held high, while Dezi watches from the edge of the living room. Mommy puts both plates down and rubs each girls chin and tells them how much she loves them and heads back to the kitchen to get her coffee. Both girls follow mommy until she’s safely seated and sipping coffee. Then they settle in to eat. After eating a bit, the girls settle in for their first after breakfast bath and chat)

Dezi lays in mommys lap for loving

You know Raena, we are very blest. We are so loved that we sometimes take things for granted. Y, We couldn’t ‘magine not havin’ a great brekky every meownin’. Me never gets tired of hearin’ mommy sing; but me’s never given a thought to what it might be like to not have a mommy who happily makes our meals everyday. You know, we joked ‘bout you hunting, ketching and killing your brekky the other day; but there are kitties out there that really do have to do that.

 Raena lays at mommy's feet.

Ignore mommy’s leg. She got a little over excited with self tanner

in the foto editing app. MOL

Yeah sissy. I’s wouldn’t wanna have to live like that. It makes me so sad to think that some kitties don’t know the love and security of havin’ a furever home, a furever mommy, or wonderful furever furiends. Y, Just this past week, mommy got a box from one of those furever furiends that you made befur I’s was even born. I’s been really blest to have been accepted by all of your furiends. Now, they be mines furiends too.

Dezi and Lexi playing together with the nip nanner

Oh Raena, sis Lexi and me always said we had the bestest furiends in the universe. No matter what, they are there to luv and support us. When we furst got our catputer, we never could have ‘magined there was so many pawsum peeps in the world. And you’re right, they accepted you and luv you just like they do me. We can’t begin to fank you all enuff. You all mean so much to us.

Raena looks out from the top of the Liberty cat tree

Hey, sissy. did you see what was in that last box mommy got? Ya’ know with everything that’s been goin’ on with her, she’s been feelin’ kinda down. So much of what’s wrong can’t be fixed. And it looks like it might be quite a while befur she can get her teeth pains fixed, so she’s just been feelin’ a little blue. She says getting’ old sure ain’t fun. Anyways, awnty Anonymous sent mommy some henna so she could cover up those gray hairs that have been takin’ over her head fur.

Dezi lays on the back of the chair

Yep Raena, me saw it. It seems kinda silly, but sometimes it’s the small silly things that can make you feel better. It’s been quite some time since mommy was able to afford to cover her gray furs, so lots of time she just doesn’t even look in the mirror. She gave up on that husband findin’ years ago, and says we luv her no matter the color of her hair furs, so she just didn’t worry ‘bout it. But she’s pawfully glad she can now fix it. You’ve never seen it, but just wait. She looks so funny walkin’ ‘round with mud in her hair. But let me tell ya’, stand way back, or you’ll end up with red furs. Me knows from experience. Me had a red dot on mes head when me was a kitten. Like you, me had to be right up under mommy and in to everythin’ she did, and some of that mud got on me just long enuff to change mes fur color.

Really sissy? Well what ifin I’s wanna look like mommy and have red furs?

Raena, you’re so silly. You be bootyful just the way you are. And natural or not, henna ain’t good fur kitties.

Aaaaaaaaaw Fanky fanks sissy. I’s think you be bootyful too.

Hunt, Kill, Eat Your Breakfast

(Raena zooms through the house letting out her signature hum each time her right paw hits the floor. She rounds the corner and leaps onto mommys lap purring so loudly, it’s almost mistaken for a growl. Her eyes dart from left to right and she catches a glimpse of Dezi in the distance.)

 Raena lays in mommy's lap

(Dezi rounds the corner and heads for her breakfast plate as Raena leaps from mommy’s lap with all 4 paws outstretched. She looks much like a flying squirrel <mommy’s not fast enough to catch this on camera, but continues to try>. She lands on the other side of Dezi and turns and zooms up the Liberty cat tree. Dezi hisses but Raena’s already out of reach. Dezi settles in to eat and Raena steps from ledge to ledge down the Liberty cat tree and walks back over to mommy and rubs her legs and looks up. Mommy reaches down and lifts Raena to her lap and gives her a kiss and says,) Honey, you need to calm down and eat your brekky. See how nice sissy’s eating her brekky? That should be you too.

Raena looks out from the top of the Liberty cat tree

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me RaenaBelle.

Dezi looks up from her breakfast plate and over at Raena

(Dezi looks up from her plate)  Raena, did you hear mommy? You need to come down here and eat your brekky. And that doesn’t mean play with mes tail.

I’s don’t wanna eat right now sissy. I’s not hunted and killed anythin’ yet.

We don’t have to hunt and kill our noms Raena, mommy purrvides us with great noms served up on silver platters.

Raena eats breakfast

I’s thought they were china, sissy?.

Oh Kittens, Raena!!! Me didn’t literally mean silver, altho’ mommy says our china plates do have silver edges. Me was just makin’ a point. That point was that you have all the food you need without ever liftin’ a paw.

Raena carries a Christmas toy from Cat and Lisa

I’s know sissy. But you know how much I’s like to hunt and kill befur every meal. But I’s lost mines new favorite prey.

Well, ifin ya’ didn’t take everythin’ to the kitchen where the black holes of the oven and furigerator live, you might not lose stuffs so fast.

Raena heads to the kitchen with the nip nanner

Raena heads to the kitchen, nip nanner in tow.

Well sissy, I’s went fishin’ in the black hole under the oven last night, but mommy wouldn’t help me. All she had to do was move da oven and I’s coulda checked fur mines new favorite prey.

Mommy can’t move the oven silly. You know that. Do you want mommy to fall down again? Or pass out?

Of course not sissy. But she coulda just took that big pull out out and let me under there. I’s know fur sure there’s at least one silvervine stick, fluffy ball, mines awnty Ellen fishy, and somethin’ with feathers on it in that black hole. And maybe mines new favorite prey.

Dezi sits on the brown cat tree in her signature pose

Well Raena, me suggests you find another new favorite prey. Least till the new helper comes to work. Cuz me doesn’t think mommy’s gonna be pullin’ out anythin’ or movin’ furniture any time soon. We got lots of great new toys fur Christmas. Pick one of them.

Ya’ know sissy, this is one of those educational moments. Attention all kittys’ slaves…

          Raena!!!

Raena plays hunt, catch, kill with the wand toy

Uh, yeah, me means “Attention all kittys’ pawrents.” Did you know that we kitties still have some wildness in us? Yep, even us gentle giant Ragdoll cats. Obesity is a real purroblem in house cats. That obesity can cause all kinds of health issues, that could have been avoided, or at least kept at bay fur many years. A kitty’s true nature is to hunt and kill befur we eat. Those of us furtunate enuff to have a furever home with luvvin’ pawrents, no longer have to do this. But just cuz we don’t have too, doesn’t mean the drive isn’t still there.

Raena fly fishing with a wand toy

You know, we think D-I-E-T is a four letter word in our house, but we know it’s sometimes necessary. But there are other ways to keep kitty happy and healthy. Rigorous play not only serves to wear us out, but is also a good way to help us shed those extra pounds. It’s also a good way to entice us to dine on a schedule. With all of the infurmation available today, mommy has learned that kibble isn’t an optimal diet fur any kitty. And that kitties don’t really need food available 24/7. Even the tiger who stashes her kill, doesn’t munch off and on all day and night. That bein’ said, the kitties in mommy’s house have been eatin’ on a schedule fur years now, and I’s don’t know any different. Mommy says I’s need to insert the fact that as a kitten I’s get an extra meal or two each day to meet mine’s growin’ needs. Altho’ we’re not yet eatin’ the complete raw diet mommy would like us too, we do eat the next bestest thing, freeze dried raw. And befur each meal we have a little game of hunt and kill where we build up our appetite and satisfy those wild urgings. MOL

Dezi sits on arm of chair

That was a great little lesson you purrsented Raena. Me’s kinda impurressed. You’re gonna have to get off mommy’s lap and close out the posty ifin you plan to #hunt, #kill and #eat this meownin’. Furst let’s link up with Rascal, Rocco and their co-hosts fur the weekly Pet Parade
