Chatting Cats: And The Catastrophes Just Keep Coming

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBelle. We got word this meownin’ from the last of our furiends in the path of those terrible hurricanes; that all are safe. What a relief!!! Seems there’s been some damage to purr-opurrty, but no damage to the peeps or anipals.

 Dezi leaves the chair

Ah Kittens!!! It’s the lawn crew. Better go check UTB fur intruders.

(Dezi meows from down the hall because she heard the lawn crew and went to check fur intruders UTB <under the bed>) Me was so happy to hear that our furiends were safe Raena. We are so blest to have so many wonderful purrayin’ furiends.

Raena lays on chair back looking down the hall

We sure are sissy. There’s gonna be a lot of clean up, repairs and relocatin’, but at least our furiends are still together and safe. So many peeps and anipals got separated in these storms. We’re purrayin’ really hard that everypawdy is reunited soon.

(Still meowing from UTB) That we are Raena, that we are. What were you and mommy doin’ with the hood up on the car yesfurday?

 Raena in stroller

Oh sissy, mommy’s so furustrated. We had to go to the store to get some more taters fur mommy and some more of that sticky stuffs to keep her teethies in her mouth. When we got home, we heard this bubblin’ and gurglin’ sound and then suddenly without any warnin’, the car started steamin’. ‘Pawrently water and somethin’ called coolant splattered everywhere and dumped out a puddle under the car. Mommy popped open the hood to take a look. (Raena rolls her eyes and snickers) Like she actually knew what she was lookin’ at. MOL  Mommy could see that most everything was wet. She shook her head and started cryin’. She told me how tired she was as she strolled me back to the house. I’s not sure mommy has much fight left in her sissy. We just can’t ever seem to get ahead of our own little catastrophes. I’s say, shame on that stinky car fur breakin’ again.

(Dezi meows from the bedroom door as the lawn crew has moved to the other side of the purr-opurrty and quieted a bit) Well Raena, there is one up side to the car breakin’. Mommy had to cancel your VET ‘pointment and her teeth relinin’ ‘pointment. Without a car, she can’t very well get to Ardmore.

Raena lays in mommy's lap

Well sissy, while I’s might not wanna go to the VET, I’s do know that it’s necessary sometimes. And fur sure, mommy needs to be able to get to the dentist office. We need to purray fur mommy and the car. I’s don’t know what mommy’s gonna do ‘bout the car, but she’s gotta figger out a way to have it checked out so we can at least know what it would cost to fix it. With the wheelchair broke and now the car too, we’re purretty much house bound. I’s purretty sure mommy’s depression is at an all time high.

Dezi lays atop the Liberty cat tree

(Dezi meows from behind mommy’s sitting chair as the lawn crew is quiet and must be on a break) Me agrees Raena. Me just doesn’t unnerstand why things happen the way they do?. (Hearing the lawn crew start up again, Dezi runs back UTB and meows over her shoulder) Why don’t you give mommy some extra luvvin’ Raena. Me will take over when the lawn crew leaves.

Raena lays in mommy's lap and gets loving

Ain’t nuffin’ better than mommy luvvin’.

I’s will sissy. But, you really need to get a grip. The lawn crew can’t get to you. You know mommy would never let anypawdy or anythin’ hurt you. I’s gonna go get some mommy luvvin’ now. When you decide to come out from UTB, maybe we can play.

Till the next time……………………………………Be Blest!!!

Service Cats: Should Spray Bottles Be Used When Training Cats

Meow and welcome to another Service Cat Monday. We’re getting a lot of questions regardin’ the “new” wheelchair and how we’ll be affected by it. Unfurtuantely we can’t really answer those questions till the “new” wheelchair gets here. We can say that mommy’s had 2 wheelchairs now and, fur the most pawrt they are similar enuff that they don’t require a lot of new training. However, we will certainly keep you all updated once we’ve received the chair. As with anythin’ involving the government, the red tape is long and we’re still waitin’ fur said chair to be ordered and delivered. That bein’ said, let’s get the business pawrt of this posty outta the way and get on with today’s question. The followin’ post will be written in human English fur reader and translator ease. Our Service Cat Monday posts aren’t intended to be an all inclusive Trainin’ Manual but rather Tips, Tricks and Techniques used/developed by mommy thru her many years of animal trainin’, cats in purrticular. Ifin you have any questions or topics you would like us to cover, purrlease let us know in the comments section or send us an email. When asking behavioral questions, purrlease be as specific as pawssible. And, ifin you’ve missed any of the posts in this series, you can ketch up by clickin’ the links at the end of this post. Always remember, Training is all ‘bout Repetition and Rewards.

The first question we’re going to meow about today comes from our sweet friend Annie from the Gooeylounge. She asked “what we thought about the use of water bottles, water pistols and the like being used to Discipline kitties.” She noted that they’re not used in her house, but she’s familiar with a lot of peeps that do. We added the word Discipline to her question, as a water bottle can really only be used for discipline purposes. Since so many kitties actually hate water, being squirted with the same for sure wouldn’t be seen as kitty having fun.

 Water Spray Bottle

As you know, we always tell the truth. When mommy started out, she had a water bottle. It was recommended by not only the VET, but also several trainers at the time. We must note, these trainers worked with dogs only. Back then there weren’t any kitty trainers to get advice from. The first time mommy used the water bottle, it had very little effect on the kitty’s behavior. Mommy quickly learned that discipline should NEVER be used as a training tool. So, the water bottle moved back to it’s home in the bathroom to be used to spruce up mommy’s perm (a hairstyle popular throughout the late 70’s and early 80’s).

 Water Pistol

In recent years we’ve seen Air Cans being used to train cats. The idea is the same as the water bottle. A can of compressed air is placed near the area you want kitty to avoid. When kitty comes near it, the Air can forcefully spews out a blast of air at kitty to startle him/her. These Air cans are yet another form of disciplining kitty. Our stance on any form of Negative Discipline to kitty’s body is that it has no place in Training. The old saying, “Two negatives doesn’t make a positive” is absolutely true. We suggested other forms of swaying kitty to behave properly in our post entitled Discipline. Cats respond better Positive reinforcement and Love.

 Air Can

We also wanted to address a question asked by Jan from the Funny Farmers. She said, “Raena seems to be doing a lot and going everywhere now. Does Dezi get jealous? How is Dezi?” Thanks for worrying about me awnty Jan, but, no worries. Me is doing great. When me joined mommy and sis Lexi all those years ago, me did most of the going and doing as sis Lexi was getting older and not enjoying the hustle and bustle of certain outings anymore. She still enjoyed trips and short outings, but Walmart and the like were a bit overwhelming. While we may be calm and quiet, our presence does draw attention. A lot of children seem to have no boundaries and often try to poke at us through the stroller. As a kitty ages, that type of behavior can become a bit too much. Me loves mommy very much and will tolerate anything for her, but thankfully, Raena enjoys being the center of attention and for the most part doesn’t get annoyed at the poke attempts from sticky little fingers. And, me quite enjoys the few hours of alone time me gets while Raena is out accompanying mommy. There’s no reason for jealousy, because when we’re together, mommy spends plenty of time with me. Me also continues Training each day to stay sharp; and me still goes on short outings with mommy as well as strolls around the apartment complex.

 Dezi sits in stroller

Well, we hope we’ve answered some of your questions today. As me said earlier, we have quite a few questions regarding the “new” wheelchair that we can’t answer till it gets here. So, ifin you have any other questions or topics you’d like us to cover, purrlease leave them in the comments section or send us an email. And, remember, you can ketch up on any post you’ve missed by clicking the links below.

Blest Sunday: Emergency Preparedness and Prayers

Hey Raena, do you know what day it is?

Blest Sunday purple kitty clip art graphic

Sure I’s do sissy. It’s time fur our Blest Sunday posty. You know what we haven’t done in a while?

What’s that Raena?

Dezi and Raena in a photo frame welcoming friends

We’ve not welcomed all our new furiends. Ya’ know, we say ifin ya’ come by once, you’re a visitor, ifin ya’ come back again, you’re family.

That’s right Raena. We’re so happy to have so many pawsum furiends. Me’s sis Lexi always said we had the bestest furiends in the universe. And, me’s sis Lexi was hardly ever wrong.

I’s sure wish I’s could’a met her sissy.

Dezi atop the Liberty cat tree

You would’a liked her Raena. But, ifin she was still here, you wouldn’t be. Mommy says things work out the way they’re s’posed too. We might not unnerstand why things happen the way they do, but, God has a plan fur everythin’ and we just have to believe He’ll take care of us.

Raena lays on the back of the chair

Like all those hurricanes, sissy? I’s sure don’t unnerstand why they have to happen. We’ve got so many furiends bein’ affected by ‘em. I’s really worried ‘bout their safety.

Me too Raena, but all we can do is purray fur them. Fankfully, there are lots of peeps comin’ together to help out. You know, we saw a lot of those helpers last night on the chatter box.

I’s was so happy to see all those peeps reunited with their furry furmily members. And, to learn that the laws were changed so that anipals had to be included in all rescue effurts. Peeps are furinally startin’ to unnerstand just how ‘purrtant us anipals are to our humans. I’s know mommy would never go off to save herself and leave us behind. And now, the law’s on her side and she wouldn’t have too.

Dezi lays on chair

Yeah Raena, me’s happy ‘bout that too. So offen in the past, anipals have had to fend fur themselves, cuz rescuers and shelters didn’t allow anipals to accompany their humans durin’ disasters of any kind. Even tho’ anipals can now accompany their humans, steps should still be taken to make sure we could be reunited in the event we were to get separated.

Like our microchips, sissy? Ya’ know, I’s wasn’t crazy ‘bout gettin’ that thing to begin with. But, ifin it helps to make sure I’s will always be with mommy, I’s glad I’s got it.

Dezi bathes atop the Liberty cat tree

Yep Raena, our microchips are a purrfect way to identify us and help make sure that we’ll always be with mommy. But, the microchip alone won’t work ifin ya’ don’t keep the infurmation updated with the chippin’ company. Our chips are registered with Petlinks. Mommy checks our infurmation at least a few times a year. Since not too much changes ‘round here, that’s all she needs too. But, ifin we were to move, change our noms, require meds, or change VETs or anythin’ else, mommy would need to update our profiles’ to reflect those changes. Could you ‘magine us bein’ separated from mommy and not gettin’ the food we’re used too? As ifin bein’ scared wouldn’t be bad enuff, but then, we might not even eat cuz the food would be wrong.

 Raena lays in mommy's lap

Not that we’d eat anyways, but it’s a good idea, just in case. It’s also a good idea, to have copies of our chip nummers, mommy’s fone nummer and VET records in an emergency bag in the event we had to evacuate or somethin’. And, our peeps should also make sure to keep some fresh noms and bottled water, food and water bowls, a first aid kit, any meds or supplements we might need, leashes, harnesses/collars, some litter, a small box, a comfurt blanky or nip mat and maybe even a toy or two should also be in our emergency bag. You can check out our post here fur a list of things you should have in the event of an emergency.

Dezi with bowed head praying on the pet steps

Those are some great suggestions Raena. We are so fankful that mommy’s purrpared. While it’s unlikely we’ll be hit by a hurricane, we are subject to tornadoes, wild fires and even earthquakes. We’ve heard from many of our furiends in the path of the current hurricanes, and we’re so happy that they are all still together. But, there are many peeps and anipals that aren’t. We’re purrayin’ fur all those in need. We’re very blest to not be facin’ these storms ourselves and to be home safe and sound with our mommy. We are also blest to have so many amazin’ furiends. We’d like to remind you all to take a minute today and every day to give thanks fur the blessings in your lives and to say a little purrayer fur all those in need.

Raena lays in mommy's lap and gets loving

We’d also like to remind everypawdy that wants to help to check out the many ways you can by clickin’ the links here. We’re joinin’ the Kitties Blue fur Sunday Selfies and sendin’ lots of hugs to all of you. Fanky fank ya’ fur bein’ our furiends. Purrlease, stay safe and ifin you’re in the path of a storm, keep in touch so we can all know how to purray and/or help. And join us tomorrow fur another Service Cat Monday posty.

Chatting Cats: Freeze Dried Mixers #ChewyInfluencer

Hey, is anypawdy out there? It’s me, RaenaBele. I’s so worried ‘bout our furiends in the paths of these storms. I’s not a scaredy cat, but I’s don’t really care fur all the storms we have. They upset mine’s sissy, and that’s enuff to make me not like ‘em. But, mommy says our thunderstorms are nuffin’ compared to these hurricanes.

Dezi lays atop the liberty cat tree

Raena, how many times does me have to tell you, the storms don’t scare me? But me too is worried ‘bout all our furiends. Me’s thinkin’ these hurricanes just might scare us all. Me knows we’ve been purrayin’ hard fur everypawdy. Mommy says that Irma got a tad weaker, but she’s still goin’ strong and headed straight fur Florida and some our furiends. And, those in Texas are still realin’ from the hurricane that hit them. Me just wishes our world could stop with all the hate over pawlitical agenda’s and just ban together.

Raena lays on small perch and looks out at the rain

Me too sissy. Hey, do you think mommy might oughtta order some more noms fur us, just in case the folks at Chewy have to evacuate? Ya’ know, they’re offices are located in Florida too.

 Chewy Logo

Yep Raena, me was just thinkin’ that too. Ya’ know, Chewy’s been doin’ their pawrt to help out the victim’s of these storms too. And, meowin’ of Chewy, we got some great mixers to review this month. As most peeps know, we eat a freeze dried raw diet and luv it. Mommy says it’s the bestest thing she’s done fur us in a long time. We’re happier and healthier than ever. But, she also says it’s kind’a ‘spensive, so anytime we get the oppurrtunity to try a freeze dried raw purroduct, we jump at it.

This is a sponsored post. We received the Instinct Rawboost Mixers in exchange fur our honest review. As always, we tell it like we see it. Neither Chewy or Instinct is responsible for the opinions expressed in this post unless otherwise stated. We only bring products we use or have tried and feel would be of interest to you, our readers and furiends.

Raena sniffs the Instinct Rawboost Mixers

Instinct Rawboost Mixers

I’s luvs the raw food we eat sissy, and I’s luvs tryin’ out new flavors and brands of freeze dried raw. Knowin’ how much we like rabbit, mommy couldn’t wait to order the Instinct Rawboost Mixers fur us. They come in 6 ounce bags of chicken or rabbit and cost $11.99 and $13.99. Now, ya’ need to ‘member, these are meant to be added to your kitties regular food, as they’re not a balanced food. That bein’ said, let’s see what Chewy says ‘bout the Instinct Rawboost Mixers

 Instinct Rawboost Mixers

The ingredients look purretty good Raena. There’s none of those questionable ingredients our humans like to avoid. Now, the instructions suggest adding these mixers to the top of kitty’s food to entice them to eat more. However, since they’re not a balanced food item, mommy likes to put them on the bottom of our plate so they’re the last thing we eat. You know, kinda like you humans have a dessert after a meal, we get a tasty little treat at the end of our meal. We’ve had these befur, but Instinct has made some changes to the packagin’ and the size of the nibblets. Mommy used to have to cut/break them in half to make a bite sized piece, but, they’re now small enuff to add to our food without any cuttin’ or breakin’. They are kind’a dense and hard and don’t soak up water quite as fast as our regular noms, so mommy suggests usin’ warm water and waitin’ a few extra minutes befur servin’. Fur those reasons and the tastyness of them, me gives them 3 paws up.

 Instinct Rawboost Mixers

Great points sissy. I’s think the Instinct Rawboost Rabbit Mixers are purretty tasty too. And I’s agree they’re a nice bite size right outta the bag now. I’s give ‘em 3 paws up too. Mommy says she’s happy with the ingredients and that we both seem to like them. Mommy says they’re not cheap, but nuffin’ freeze dried is. Mommy said she wishes they were ingredient balanced so they could be served as a complete meal, but, they do make a nice occasional addition to our regular noms. So, mommy gives ‘em a thumb up too.

 Raena eats Core shreds

As fur Chewy, we give them an all paws up as usual. Great purroducts at great purrices and speedy free shippin’ always make us happy. You can also set up an auto ship so you never run out of your pet’s favorites. Don’t worry, you can always skip, cancel or delay at anytime. You can also make changes by addin’ or removin’ items up till the day befur your auto ship order ships. And, Chewy customer service is great. And, like we said earlier, they’re doin’ their pawrt to help all those affected by these horrible storms. So, head on over and check ‘em out. You know you wanna try these mixers too.

Dezi lays atop the cat tree

C’mon Raena, let’s go play. Mommy says we’re gonna have to help her clean house, cuz we have a surpurrise comin’ next weekend.

Right behind ya’ sissy. I’s can’t wait to find out what our surpurrise is.
