Blest Sunday: How To Prepare For An Emergency

Hey everypawdy, RaenaBelle here on this wet Blest Sunday. I’s sure hope all of you are doing well. The week started with temps in the 100’s and ended in the 50’s. And of course, it stormed all week long.

Don’t let it fool ya’ Raena, summer’s not over. It’s back in the 90’s today and looking to get hotter throughout the week.

I’s not fooled sissy, I’s just enjoyed the few cooler days we got. Ya’ know, extra snuggles with mommy. Anyways, we wanna send our purrayers up fur all those affected by the storms and the fires. With all that’s going on right now, the world’s a very scary place.

That’s true Raena. We are so Blest to have a luvving furever home with a mommy who will take care of us no matter what.

Meowing of fires and storms, we wanted to talk a little today about Emergency Preparedness. We don’t believe in living our lives in fear, but we do believe in being purrpared whenever possible. You know, we live in an area that’s subject to high winds, tornadoes, flooding and fires. And that’s just the most common natural disasters. While we’ve never been evacuated or had to leave our home fur safety reasons, mommy likes to keep us ready just in case.

Yeah Raena, you just never know what the future holds, so it’s always best to be purrpared. Leashes, harnesses and carriers should always be kept out and readily available. Yes, even for cats. The last thing you need in an emergency is a cat on the loose. Trust me, mommy would have a conniption fit before she left if one of us had slipped out into danger cuz we were scared and/or broke out of our carrier.

Yeah sissy, mommy would just flat refuse to leave us behind. That’s not safe fur anypawdy. We luvs our stroller which is always sitting out at the ready along with a carrier that we often use fur naps. You know, you travel in the car much better in a carrier than the stroller. I’s prefur the stroller mine’s self, but safety is key. You should also keep at least a weeks worth of kitty’s/doggy’s food along with any medications or treatments needed; and instructions on usage/dosages. Be sure to keep these items fresh and current. Don’t get complacent when it comes to being prepared.

And keep a list of names and numbers handy. Mommy has several lists. One is always inside our stroller, one in the carrier, one in our medical files and one attached to the fridge with a magnet. Emergency personnel are trained to look for emergency lists on or near the fridge. On that list should be kitty’s vet, your emergency contact person who could actually care for kitty ifin you couldn’t, and a backup person.

That’s all well and good, but, what happens ifin you’re not at home when an emergency happens? Or, what ifin you’re unconscious? Well, the folks at The Petmosphere have put together a handy little kit to help alert emergency personnel that you have furries inside that need to be rescued. We really like the kits, but do think they’re a bit overpriced. You can buy a single kit for $19.95 or a double for $24.95 and free s/h. You can also buy additional kits and accessories. Inside each kit is a variety of items. The single kit includes one bracelet, one key ring alert tag, one waterproof customizable wallet card and a light reflective reusable home rescue window decal. Mommy also likes to include a current photo of us next to the window decal, on the front door or the fridge, so that emergency personnel will know who and what they’re looking for. You know, you don’t want them searching for an orange tabby ifin you’re a seal pointed Siamese.

Good point Raena. And here me thought mommy was just bragging to all the neighbors about us. (Dezi rolls her eyes) Me’s pretty sure everypawdy knew the photo on the front door wasn’t fur us. After all, we never see it.

But not everypawdy has seen our front door sissy. Anyways, it’s just a suggestion of yet another emergency preparedness action one could take. Usually when an emergency is happening, time is limited and mommy wants to make sure that she’s taken every precaution available to make things go quicker and smoother. Now, let’s get on with our Blessings.
