Customizable, Ceramic, Soft

Meowllo everypawdy, we hope you’re havin’ a great week. Let me tell ya’ me doesn’t know what this world is comin’ too. Furst sissy Raena hijacks me’s bloggy and now mommy wants to. You know what? It’s okay. After all without mommy me wouldn’t have a bloggy to hijack, and we are all furmily after all. So me’s gonna turn it over to mommy now. She has some great purroducts to tell ya’ ‘bout. And stay tuned, vu we’s havin’ a give away at da end.

Thank you sweety. I won’t make a habit of taking over, and ya’ll did get to try out the new goodies, so you’ll still be a part of the post. Anyways, recently we were given the opportunity to try out a couple of new products from Collage.com’s new pet line. First let me explain a little about the products. We received a bowl and a pillow bed. They are completely customizable as you’ll see by the photos.

This is a sponsored post. We’ve been compensated for sharing. However, we always tell the truth; all opinions are our own. As always we only bring you products we use or have tried ourselves and think would be of interest to you our readers and friends.

When you go to the site and choose the item you want, you’re taken to a screen that allows you to add photos, writing, initials, designs and pretty much whatever your mind can think of. Now you all know I’m no techy. You don’t need to be. It’s a simple and really easy format to work with, and if you have any trouble there’s a number listed on every page for customer service help. You can preview your product and go back and change it all before you finalize it and save it for check out. And if you’re buying more than 1 item, the photos you upload are still available to choose for your next product, or you can choose all new ones.

Pillow Pet Bed from collage.com customized with photos of Dezi, Lexi and raena

Let’s take a look at the products themselves. First up the Cat Bowl. It’s a high quality plain white ceramic, fully finished large bowl. When I say fully finished, I mean that the bottom is glazed just like the inside, so no scratching your floors. Altho’ it says it’s dishwasher safe, because of the photos and finish, I would recommend hand washing. The bowl is 6 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches tall (deep). So it’s great for food or water. Collage.com’s recommendation is 1-40 photos for the bowl. But you will also have other options as well as changing the color by adding a background.

Now lets take a look at the Pillow Bed. As Dezi would say, OMC It’s amazing. First off at 40” X 30”, it’s huge. And it’s overstuffed and fluffy, with a plush fleece top and natural weave back. And the cover is removable for easy clean up. You can use anywhere from 1 to 200 photos in your design. And remember, you’ll have other options as well. We gave ours a space like background in Dezi’s signature bluish purple and added DezizWorld to the top. You can even choose the font and color of any writing as well as placement. You’re only limited by your creativity. And you all know this is the area where I’m lacking. But we think our pillow bed is great. Actually, I love it so much, I can’t bring myself to throw it on the floor for the girls to use. lol So, at the moment it rests at the foot of the bed where the girls wrestle with it and lay on it while I fold clothes and do other chores in the bedroom. As a testament to it’s softness, Raena kneads and suckles it. And if I’m being honest, my guess is, that Dezi does too. (shakes head) My spoiled little angels.

Dezi:  Mommy, you’re not supposed to tell all me’s secrets. Oh well, can me tell ‘bout da give away now?

Raena suckling pillow bed from collage.com
Yes, I’s sucklin’ da new pillow bed. It’s just soooooo soft.

Yes Dezi, you can tell about the give away now.

Thanks mommy. Let me tell ya’ dat pillow bed is pawsum and so is da bowl. Raena luvs her bowl, and she knows those are fotos of her on it too. Anyways, da pawsum peeps over at Collage.com are lettin’ us give away one of those amazin’ Customizable Ceramic Pet Bowls. Dat’s right, one lucky U.S. reader will get to customize their very own cat or dog bowl dat will then be shipped to your door. Ya’ might wanna check out all da other pawsum customizable purroducts they have while you’re there.

Service Cats: Do You Need One

Meowllo everypawdy and welcome to another of our educational postys ‘bout Service Cats. As with all our educational postys da remainder will be written in human English. We got a lot of great questions over da last week, so we thought we’d focus on those today. Purrlease keep da questions comin’. Ifin you missed any of our postys you can read them by clicking on da links below.

Service Cats: What to look for

Service Cats: Training Foundation

Service Cats: How to train kitty to Massage without claws

Service Cats: Smelling Disease

Dezi on top of the Liberty cat tree

First up tho’ we thought you all might enjoy seein’ Raena pawin’ an alert fur mommy. She was a little confused cuz she’s not used to mommy tryin’ to take a foto of her doin’ it, but dat paw there is on it’s way to pat mommy on da face.

Raena reaching up to alert mommy

See that paw to the right?

Raena reaching up to alert mommy close up

Here’s a close up of that right paw about

to reach mommy’s face to start patting

Okay, let’s get on with da questions. The first question comes from our friends over at Eastside Cats. They ask, Can a Service or Therapy Cat be trained by one person and then go to live with another?  That’s a great question, and the answer is a bit convoluted. First let’s address the Service Animal part of that question because there is a huge difference between the 2. As you know most seeing eye dogs are trained and then sold to a disabled person in need. Make no mistake, these charges are outrageous. Anyways, this does cause one to ask the above question. On the one hand the answer is Yes. There are tasks kitty could learn to perform that could then be performed for anyone. For instance, a kitty could be trained to drive a wheelchair or alert to a specific smell, answer a phone, open cabinets, etc. and then placed in the home of a disabled person who has need of those things. Such a kitty would most likely be clicker and treat trained so that they are essentially performing a “trick” on command. There would need to be a few days of additional in home training to get kitty accustomed to his/her new handler and performing the trained tasks for them. (We can’t even begin to imagine the cost of such a kitty.) And the new handler would need to spend extra time bonding with kitty once placed.

Now for the convoluted part of that answer. A kitty trained elsewhere and placed with a disabled person may not actually “work” right away. Unlike dogs, cats aren’t fans of change and do take a bit to feel comfortable in their new surroundings and with their new person/people. Kitty is performing tasks, but is doing so much like a doggy performing sit/stay. There is nothing wrong with this method, but mommy prefers a kitty that performs because they want to help as opposed to one expecting a treat or other reward. Mommy prefers a bonded kitty so that kitty can anticipate and learn what mommy needs as her condition changes.

Dezi looking back from the cat tree

Now let’s get to the Therapy cat part of that question. A Therapy Cat Does Not perform any specific duties or trained tasks to assist a disabled person. No real training is required to be a Therapy Cat. A therapy animal is one that visits hospitals, nursing homes, etc. with their handler to make people feel good. This can be achieved by letting people pet them, hold them, or just be in the room with them. A Therapy Cat and it’s handler Must attend a training session/seminar to learn the rules on how to prepare for entry into these places and what is allowed and not. Therapy cats and other animals must be bathed regularly, must have a calm and sedate temperament, etc.. Since Therapy Cats and their handlers must attend this training together, then No, Therapy cats cannot be trained by a second hand party. Most of the training for a Therapy Cat is for the human handler. The only real training required for the Cat, is that they be calm and allow people to pet and handle them without scratching or biting. Some breeds are better at this than others. For a full definition/description of Service Animals, Therapy Animals and Companion Animals, please click here

The next question we were asked is: Would mommy train Service Cats for others?  The answer is yes, she has trained cats for others in the past and would consider it again in the future. Depending on the required tasks, mommy may have kitty in training live with us temporarily, or she may go to them. As we’ve said many times, mommy prefers the bonded training method over treat training. And generally when one is disabled their condition get worse through the years and not better. A bonded kitty will adapt and almost train themselves to meet your “new” needs.

 Dezi scratching the floor

We were also asked about a specific condition (Neuropathy) and if a Service Cat massaging them would be of any help and if so could they train their current cat.  First we need to state that mommy is not a medical doctor and cannot diagnose anyone’s medical condition. We also cannot determine whether a Service Cat would benefit you if we haven’t met and spent time in person with you. That’s a decision only you and possibly your doctor can decide. We have continually said that any and all cats can be trained, so the answer to that part of the question would be Yes. But we do recommend starting from the very beginning and re-bonding with your resident cat before moving to the next step in training.

This person also asked about training their resident dogs to alert for seizures. Again, without meeting everyone in question we can’t give a specific answer. We will say that the dogs may already be alerting and it’s so subtle no one is recognizing it. And then again, they may not be. We’ll say again that you don’t have to have any particular breed of cat or dog. Altho’ some breeds do make better Service Animals than others. A “smashed faced” cat or dog shouldn’t be expected to scent alert. They can, but but they may not be 100% accurate. A Service Animal must perform their trained tasks every time. Be realistic in your expectations of a Service Animal. People don’t train toy dogs to be guard dogs. Why? Because they’re not scary and can’t deter criminal behavior. So don’t expect the animal or breed you’ve chosen to perform duties beyond their physical capabilities.

Dezi and Raena in frames with a big purple heart and purple rose

The Kitties Blue asked about training massage, but we’ve covered the basics of that in the Training Kitty to Massage post (click link above), so we won’t go over it again here. However, we will expand on it in a future post. They also asked if the trainee had to be a kitten. As we’ve said before, No, any cat can learn at any age. We do recommend starting at the beginning with the bonding process before moving forward with training. And yes, even with your resident cat.

Well, we’re gonna wrap it up fur today. We’ve covered a lot of information here so we’ll give ya’ some time to digest it all. We’ll say in closing that Service animals are Not provided to the disabled for free. The charges, as we’ve stated earlier are outrageous. This is one of the reasons mommy believes in home training. Most disabled people we know live on a fixed income and can’t afford thousands of dollars for a Service Animal. Anyways, we hope you enjoy our post. Please leave any questions you have in the comments. We love hearin’ from you and reading your questions.

Do you (Does your kitty) have the temperament to be a Therapy cat?

Are you still confused about the differences between a Service Cat, Therapy Cat and Companion Cat?

What do you think is the average charge for a trained Service Dog?

Do you think that people who need a Service Animal should have to buy one, or should it be provided for free or covered by insurance?

Blest Sunday Vet Update

Meowllo and welcome to a very Blest Sunday. Of course we think every day’s a blessing, but we feel doubly and even triply blest sometimes. And this weekend is one of those times. As ya’ know, sis Raena had to go to da VET on Furiday fur her second round of core vaccines; somethin’ she wasn’t lookin’ furward too. ‘Course neither was mommy, cuz it’s getting’ really hot here now dat Summer has arrived full force; and with no a/c in da car and no way to roll da windows down mommy dreads goin’ anywhere, specially ifin she has to take us. But Furiday came and mommy gathered up Raena and they were off.

Raena site on the arm of the chair by mommy

Sissy, I thought I’s was gonna get to tell ‘bout mines own VET visit?.

Dezi poses for the camera from the arm of the chair

You are Raena, me was just settin’ things up fur ya’. You need to learn some patience kid. MOL Well, go ahead and tell everypawdy ‘bout ya’ll’s trip.

Fanks Dezi. You’s da bestest sisfur ever. So mommy and me got started down da road when suddenly there were these lights flahin’ behind us and screamin’ sounds too. Mommy said, oh no, and scooted over to another lane and told me to stay quiet. Turns out those lights and screamin’ cars belong to pawlice, and dat’s what they do when they’re gonna pull somepawdy over fur speedin’ and such. Altho’ mommy wanted to speed so we could hurry and get outta da heat, she wasn’t, so she was a little confused. But as soon as we moved over, 4 screamin’ pawlice cars went flyin’ passed us. And then we saw it. A fuel truck had wrecked and every cop in these pawrts was right there. So we got stuck in da traffic jam and was 5 minutes late to mines ‘pointment.

It didn’t seem to matter tho’ da place was full of big ole doggies with bad owners. Several of those doggies was tryin’ to get me and their owners just sat there, sayin’ things like, “Oh, he doesn’t like cats.” And…while droppin’ da leashes to look in her purse lady, “Don’t bother the kitty Bruiser and Tuffy.” Mommy was irate, and gave them a piece of her mind ‘bout handlin’ their doggies and how bein’ at da VETs doesn’t exempt them from da law dat says your animal must be attached to a leash with a respawnsible adult attached to da other end and da doggy must be under control at all times when outside of their house. And then she took me to da back. ‘Course we were followed by a tech who said, it was fine fur mommy to go on ahead and go to da back and dat da VET would just see me there. They wasn’t thrilled, but you could tell they knew better than to say anythin’ to mommy ’bout it.

RaenaBelle's eye closeup
Hmmmmmmm I Don’t think this is quite right fur a selfie

Once in da back, both VETs were there and made over me along with a couple of techs. But they wasn’t foolin’ me none, I’s knew what was in store. I could see da needles sittin’ on mines folder. Furst da lady VET pawed me all over and tried to get kisses. Did she think I had done furgotten how she manhandled me just a few weeks ago? Hmmmpht Well I didn’t and gave her a hiss ‘stead of a kiss. Then he, Dr. C put me on a scale. I weighed a whole 2.4 pounds. Mommy says I’s way too skinny, but da VETs said I looked great and dat mines fur was da bestest they’d seen since sis Dezi. They asked mommy ‘bout supplements, but she told ‘em we don’t really take any, but dat we do eat freeze dried raw.

Mommy’s workin’ up to da all out raw. I luvs it, but Dezi not so much. And I’s wanna eat whatever sis Dezi does, so…Anyways, both da VETs frowned, but said nuffin’. You could tell they was bitin’ their tongues, and have learned not to argue with mommy. And then da nasty VET lady stuck me. Not once but 2 times. Yep, she stuck me twice and then shoved somethin’ in mines mouth. Then da lady VET wanted to hug all over me again. Fur a minute I’s furgot I’s a Ragdoll and started squirmin’ ‘bout till she gave me back to mommy. And then back thru da office we went. There was a doggie free fur all goin’ on and a lady huddled on her chair with a kitty under her shirt tryin’ to purrtect it. But when mommy looked over at da doggy peeps, they all scampered to grab their leashes. It’s such a shame dat peeps act dat way. Anyways, mommy paid da lady and we was off. Seems I’s still have to take dat yucky medicne till mines eyes clear up, but at least we was finished there.

RaenaBelle's nose and mouth selfie
Well this ain’t it either. These selfies are tricky.

Mommy had purromissed me some of those yummy treats we found da last time we went to da VET, so we headed to Walmart. Y, They marked those treats down from .50 cents a package to a quarter. So mommy got me several packages and even gave me a few right then. Somepawdy asked us what they are da other day and we couldn’t ‘member, but they’re called Delectables Real chicken/chicken and tuna, Chicken and turkey and so on, Juicy treat. They have quite a few flavors. All they are is chunks of whatever protein in a bag and kept moist. There’s about 6 treats purr bag. Mommy says they’re overpriced even at a quarter, but I’s luvs ‘em and she wants to reward me fur takin’ mines medicine. Also, somethin’ ‘bout puttin’ some meat on mines bones. MOL

RaenaBelle half rpofile cut off selfie
Well, I’s think I’s gettin’ better at least.

Anyways, we headed home. It was so hot I panted da whole way home. Mommy had brought a wet wash cloth dat she kept tryin’ to put on me, but I’s kept tryin’ to shake it off. Mommy said it woulda helped keep me cool, but I’s didn’t believe her. After all, she had a wet wash cloth wrapped ‘round her neck and she was pourin’ sweat all down her face. When we finally got home I’s didn’t feel good. I’s didn’t wanna eat. All I’s wanted to do was lay ‘round on mommy and sleep. She said I’s was burnin’ up with fever and cried and purrayed fur da longest time. ‘Tween da heat and da vaccinations, I got really sick. Sis Dezi was so sweet to me. I’s know she luvs me, and I’s sure do luvs her. I’s feelin’ better now, but mommy sure was worried.

RaenaBelle lap selfie

Furinally. Fanks fur helpin’ me mommy.

Thanks Raena, we’re all glad you’re okay. Mommy and me really was worried ‘bout ya’. But God is a big God and we are so thankful dat He helped you get better. Dat’s a great blessing indeed. ‘Course we told ya’ we made it through da furst inspection without any purroblems and somepawdy commented dat it seemed we were always havin’ inspections and wanted to know how offen we had these. Yes, it does seem like we’s havin’ them all da time to us too. They’re allowed to do 1 inspection a month, and usually dat’s what they do. But, they occasionally try to slip in extras, like they are this month. ‘Cuz we live in subsidized housing, they’re allowed to purrfurm inspections. It’s a real pain in da behind and this is da furst place we’ve ever lived dat took advantage of that right. There are no tenants meetings and mommy has already reported them several times. Da respawnse was dat mommy has da legal right to refuse entry beyond da one inspection a month.

Dezi laying on cat tree and meowing

Anyways, we are so blest to have all of you in our lives and we purreciate all your purrayers fur Raena’s VET visit and fur us in general. Raena has one last VET visit in 3 weeks and then her core vaccines will be over and all she’ll need will be da “by law” rabies shot and her spay day in October. We got some great questions fur our Service Cat posty tomorrow, and we have a pawsum give away comin’ up this week. So stay tuned. We’s also joinin’ da Kitties Blue fur Sunday Selfies. And ‘member to take a minute today and everyday to give thanks fur da blessings in your life.

Till da next time……………………………………Be Blest!!!

It’s RaenaBelle And I’s Taking Over

Hey? Is anypawdy there? I gotta be quick befur sis Dezi figgers out dat I’s on her bloggy. Mommy says it’s our bloggy, but Dezi keeps tellin’ me her name’s at da top, so she gives da orders. She says dat ‘bout a lot of things, but I don’t always lissen. Like, she thinks she should be da only one eatin’ outta her plate. But I think da food taste better in her plate, and don’t see why she doesn’t wanna share?. After all, we are sisfurs. And her pawdee box, it’s…well, I better get on with it, or she’ll come lookin’ fur me.

Raena laying by the Kong play tent

We made it thru da furst of da three inspections, and there wasn’t any purroblems. Da mean manager lady started botherin’ mommy da minute she opened da office yesfurday; callin’ mommy ‘bout da lease stuffs. Oh, and mommy innerviewed a really nice little girl to help her ‘round da house. We really liked her. So, pendin’ her criminal background check, and of course her showin’ up to work, we think we’s got a winner. Paws crossed it all works out. We’ll of course tell ya’ more ‘bout it in da future.

Raena site on the arm of the chair by mommy

Anyways, da real reason I got on here today is cuz I need rescuin’. Yep, I do. I heard mommy and sis Dezi talkin’ ‘bout da mean ole VET place and how I was goin’ back there today. Dat just don’t seem right. Sissy only had to be stuck once, so why do I have to keep goin’ back? Seems like abuse to me. You know mommy is pawsum, I luvs her very much. And sis Dezi ain’t bad either. All in all, I luvs mines furever home, but this VET thing could be a deal breaker. I mean, what are kitten vaccines and core vaccines and just why do I need ‘em? Da last time we was there mommy purromissed this wasn’t somethin’ I would have to go through all da time. Seems to me dat it wasn’t dat long ago and I was goin’ thru it. And, I’ve been havin’ to take this nasty tastin’ yellow medicine and mines eyes and nose are still runny. So there. Just what is it dat these VETs know anyways?

Raena peeking out of the stroller

Raena's paw pushing the mesh on the stroller

RaenaBelle Maycee!!! What are you doin’ on me’s bloggy? It’s Furiday and time to join’ da Pet Parade. And we needed to let peeps know what’s been goin’ on and dat we’ll be by to visit them later.

Dezi and RaenaBelle on the Liberty cat tree

I told them all ‘bout dat sissy. Well, I didn’t get to da Pet Parade thing, but I’s told ‘em ‘bout everythin’ else.

Well, Okay, but next time you need to ask befur hijackin’ me’s bloggy.

Mommy says it’s our bloggy, Dezi.

Dezi and Raena in a frame surrounded by roses

Of course she does Raena, she doesn’t want you to feel left out, BUT…it’s me’s name at da top. You’d do good to ‘member dat. Anyways, you and mommy gotta get ready to go, so we need to wrap it up. Any purrayers you can spare would be purreciated. Da a/c in da car still doesn’t work and da windows still don’t roll down. And it’s finally hot summer here. And altho mommy believes in getting’ da kitten series of vaccinations, she realizes there is still a certain amount of risks associated with them. Don’t furget to send in your fotos fur our Pawlympics Fly Fishin’ event.
