It’s How Long?

Here it is Furiday again. Do yous all wealize how close Christmas is? Fanksgivin’ is only 3 showt weeks away. So we fawt we wuld share a foo of da dangers da holidays bwing fur yous furry furmily members. So as wiff all ow educational postys da rest will be written in hooman speak.

Most everybody has shared a little turkey or ham with their cat or dog at the holidays. After all we’re most likely right there askin’ for some. We sure did. Last year we got blessed with a turkey for Christmas and the whole time it was in the oven Lexi and me sat in the kitchen watching it. And when mommy took it out, she couldn’t have moved if she wanted too. The aroma filled the house and made our mouths water. But there are some things that might be on your holiday table that aren’t as safe for us as that turkey. If you drink or serve alcoholic beverages, please don’t give any to your pets. It’s not funny to see us intoxicated and it could actually lead to coma or death. And of course most of you know that chocolate isn’t good for us, so just member to keep it out of our reach. Not all of us know to leave it alone. Nuts can cause all kinds of different problems for us as well as lots of fruits. So please keep the fruitcake to your self. And that morning cup of joe that mommy can’t seem to live without, it’s highly toxic to us kitties. We don’t need a caffeine high to hav a good time or bounce off da walls. Just get da bird on a string or wire. Raw yeast dough is another no no. Mommy loves to make fresh bread and donuts and we are drawn to the smell of the dough, but it is very toxic to us kitties. So if you’re a baker, keep your dough outta our reach. And most all of the root vegetables (those that grow under ground) are toxic too us. Sometimes it the leaves and not the actual vegetable, but to be on the safe side (if you can’t remember all of them) just keep all of it away from us. This is just a few of the foods that awe toxic to us. For a complete list, please go here.

With all the advancements in pet nutrition, and all the brands on the market today we really don’t need your foods. Just provide us a well balanced diet and we’ll be happy. The occasional bite of turkey at Thanksgiving won’t hurt us, or even a few bites of that well loved bacon; but too much of a good thing is just as bad for us as it is for you. If you want what’s best for your pet, read the labels of the food you buy. Educate yourself a little and know what to look for. Always remember us cats are meat eaters, and bad things happen when we don’t get enough meat. And even though dogs could survive being a vegetarian, they’re meat eaters too. A well balanced diet for everybody in the house will make us all happy and sassy. As the holidays draw even closer we will also be writing post on poisonous plants, and decorations. We hope you all plan to have great fun this holiday season for all your family members including those of us with fur. The holidays can be a lot of fun for us all if you just take a few precautions.

Panfurs Rock!

Well it’s finally here, Black Cat Day! Weez been lookin’ furward to this evew since we found out ‘bout it. Weez hav so many gweat furiends dat be black cats. And yous know what? Here’s a little sumfin’ yous not know ‘bout meez mommy. Hers vewy first kitty evew wus a solid black cat. Meez mommy had been raised in a furmily dat had lots of animals fwu da years, but nevew had kitties. Da man of da house fawt we kitties wuz all worffless and didn’t like us. It made meez mommy sad, but what kuld hers do, she wuz just a kid. But when meez mommy got all grown up and moved into hers vewy first pawtment hers went down to da local animal shelter and sed, “I want a kitty.” Da animal contwol peeps took mommy to da back and there they had 1 little kitten dat wuz only a foo days old layin’ on a cold hard metal table. They had alweady killed it’s mommy and 5 littermates and it wuz nex. A man in a white coat wuz fillin’ up a syringe. Mommy panicked and sed, “I’ll take that one.” Da shelter peeps told mommy dat it wuldn’t liv cuz it wuz too yung to be on it’s own. Mommy stood hers gwound and sed, “I don’t care what you think, I want that one.” They gave in and let mommy pick up da squirmin’ cwyin’ kitten and hold it close to hers heart. It immediately quit squirmin’ and stawted purrin’. It kuldn’t see or hear, but it seemed to know evewyfin’ wuz alwight now. Mommy didn’t unnewstand why they wuld kill a mommy and whole litter of kitties, so hers asked. They told her dat cuz all da kitties wuz black they wuldn’t get adopted. Mommy fawt dat wuz da most widiculous fing hers had evew heard. Unfurtunately hers later found out they wuz tellin’ da twuff. Ignowance and old wives tales still abound and peeps still buy into da myffs surroundin’ these bootyful kitties.

Let me tell you a foo fings ‘bout black kitties dat not be myffs. Did yous know dat there awe 3 basic colors of kitties dat all udder colors awe a combination of? Those 3 colors awe Black, Red and White. Yous know what dat means? Almost evewy kitty in da world has a black gene sumwhere in their DNA. And in da purebred arena of da CFA, pure black kitties awe an accepted color pattern in 22 bweeds. 22……not 1 or 2, but 22. Isn’t dat amazin’? Melanism which is what black is called, (like albinoism is what we call lack of color) may also actually enhance their immune system. Makin’ them mowe wesistant to illnesses and genewally heallffier. Betcha didn’t know dat. Those awe just a foo little fun facts ‘bout black cats. But yous know what? A black cat bleeds red just like me. Black cats purr da same as me. Black cats luv and play and just want a luvvin’ furever home just like any udder cat. There’s nuffin’ any mowe lucky or unlucky ‘bout a black cat than any udder cat. Tuxedo cats awe so vewy pawpular, and c’mon peeps, they’re black cats wiff white mawkins. No offense to meez tuxie furiends. Yous know me luvs ya’. But ifin not fur da extwa gene they wuld be solid black. Here at meez house we just don’t unnewstand what da big deal is, cuz we luv all kitties wegardless of color.

Sum of you hav been followin’ us a long time and know dat da wescue mommy volunteered wiff when hers took in sis Lexi and hers littermates wanted to kill them cuz they wuz so black. And mommy put hers foot down yet again and sed NO. And sis Lexi’s blood bwofur wuz adopted weally fast by a weally rich furmily dat live in a five stowwy house and they luved hims so much they made mommy purroud. Lexi’s udder littermate died due to injuwies sustained duwin’ hers birff, but had she lived she wulda been adopted too. As fur sis Lexi, mommy sez hers can’t magine life wiffout hers and all da luv she has bwought fwu out da years. And me can tell you dat she’s da bestest sisfur a girly kuld evew ask fur.

Oh Yous wanna know what happened to mommys first evew kitty don’tcha? She Lived. Mommy took hers home and handraised her to be a big bootyful panfur girly. Mommy sed she wuz da smawtest, sweetest kitty evew. Meez suwe she means till meetin’ me and Lexi tho’. And we looked all ovew fur da fotos of her, but alas there awe still sum fings mommy hasn’t found fwum wecent events. But weez do hav a foto of Ransom, da Ragamuffin’ dat occupied my spot on da bed afur meez comin’ to live here. And altho’ we awe advocates of not allowin’ black cat adoptions till nex mumff, da fotos abuv awe of adoptable black kitties dat can be found on (www.allpaws.com) Fank you all fur luvin kitties and fur givin’ black kitties a chance. Be Careful: It’s That Time

Happy Tuesday to you all. It’s gettin’ to be dat time of year when it turns yucky cold. Sum of you awe alweady gettin’ da chilly wedder and we hope yous stayin’ warm. We just do not like winter here in ow house. And it’s not just cuz of old man awfur-itis, or da leaves dat pile up all ovew ow porch, but cuz it gets all gray and yucky lookin’ outside and da sunpuddles awe fewer and fawther tween. Now yous tell me, what kitty dusn’t enjoy a good sun puddle at least evewy once in a while? Oh well maybe winter won’t over stay this year.

Most of you member we made a posty earlier in the mumff warnin’ ‘bout da dangers of this holiday season to cats, black cats in purrticular. Well this is da week and there awe festivities of all kinds happenin’’wound da world, so purrlease member to keep all yous pets safe, by keepin’ them inside. And ifin yous havin’ company and yous pet’s not so social, cweate them a nice little hide away complete wiff food and water, litter boxes, toys, and ear plugs. MOL No, weez not weally mean ear plugs, but maybe yous kuld leave da teevee or radio on fur us to kinda drowned out da sound. When mommy and me go out we always leave da teevee on to keep sis Lexi company. And da foo times mommy actually goes sumwhere wiffout me, dat teevee suwe is nice to hav on. Anudder fing to be caweful ‘bout is ifin yous hav darters. Yous know da ones, they dart out da door evewy chance they get. Ifin yous gunna be openin’ and closin’ da doors a lot to twick or tweaters, or guests comin’ and goin’, giv us dat nice little hide away then too. And also member dat altho’ weez might be fascinated by yous “haul”, candy isn’t good fur us and sum of it be down wight toxic to us.

Now sumfin’ yous will rarely see here cuz weez just not hav any, but weez gunna talk a bit ‘bout da two legged little peeps. Purrlease keep yous two legged kiddos safe too. This world has sum weally bad peeps in it dat do “not so nice” fings to da little peeps. So make suwe yous got yous eye on those little ones at all time, and check da haul to make suwe it hasn’t been tampered wiff afur they go to eatin’ it, or better yet; only take ‘em to places and peeps yous know to be safe. And you know a little common sense goes a long way. Even tho’ da little peeps might wanna eat all dat candy at once, unless yous wanna be cleanin’ up fwo up and hav a gallon of da pink stuff in yous fwidge; don’t let ‘em. Weez will be covewin’ mowe ‘bout da holidays and festivities and purrcautions and dangers in da comin’ weeks.

Dat wuz vewy sweet of yous, and yous fotos awe just gawjus. Me also wants to fank awnty Cindy and Maggie Meme fur meez Meowday cawd and gift certificate to da Pizza Hut. WooHoo it’s pizza time. Mommy’s almost got da house in order and hers plannin’ a pawty fur me. Meez heard her last night askin’ Buddy ifin hims wanted to come to meez pawty, so me knows it’s gunna be a blast.

And hey, don’t furget dat tomowwo be National Cat Day. Isn’t dat gweat, weez hav ow own day! As ifin mommy needed anudder weason to hug and luv on us. But yep, dat’s zackly what she’s gunna be duin’. And lots of it. WooHoo And then da nex day is National Black Cat Day. Let’s flood social media wiff gawjus fotos and heart warmin’ stowwies of those black booties and dispel da myff dat they bwing bad luck or awen’t as good as udder kitties.

Service Kitty Havin’ Fun

Meowllo evewypawdy, and a happy Tuesday to yous all. A while back meez posted ‘bout meez new hawness and showed yous all fotos of me wearin’ it and luvin’ it. And then a bit later me told yous all dat mommy had put it on me duwin’ a weally bad stowm we had and it seemed to help me. Specially since me hates da fundershirt and won’t keep it on so weez hav no idea ifin it wuld work. Well meez has sum new furiends since then and sum of them awe workin’ on leash and hawness twainin’ and sum awe workin’ on becomin’ Therapy animals, so me fawt me wuld make a little posty ‘bout me and meez hawness ifin nuffin’ else to giv their hoomans hope dat sumday their furbabies will be stwuttin’ their stuff too.

As yous know me and sis Lexi awe Service cats. Now dat’s not da same as a Therapy or Companion animal and we covered those distinctions early on, and yous can read dat posty here. Anyways, pawt of bein’ a workin’ animal wegardless of which one yous awe is dat yous will hav to go outside and twavel wiff yous hooman at sum point. And yous gunna hav to wear a leash. Well what dat leash is attached to can be numerous fings, but mommy purrfurs and so duz me, da harness. And weez purrfur da jacket style hawness ovew da fin stwappy ones. Ifin yous hav a badge it can be attached or sewn onto yous jacket hawness much easier. Mommy wuz gunna sew meez Service badge on meez hawness, but hers decided to attach it to da stwoller instead, cuz meez always in there when weez go out unless weez awe visitin’ sumpawdy. But meez job is to take cawe of mommy. And cuz she found out it works so well when weez hav stowms. Sumtimes da badges make them a little stiff. So meez badge is on da stwoller and meez can wear da hawness anytime fur any weason.

And guess what? Meez been wearin’ it a lot lately. Weez been havin sum pawful stowms here. Let me tell ya’ they’ve been so pawful even mommy’s been jumpin’ sum and not able to sleep fwu them. Mommy sez da funder and lightning has been so loud and stwikin’ so close to ow pawtment dat even hers has been a little worried. See weez hav nuffin’ but woods behind ow pawtment and lots and lots of twees. Mommy sez all those tall twees awe like a bunch of lightnin’ rods. It’s a fire waitin’ to happen. And hers been so excited ‘bout hers new chair dat yous all helped get hers, she hasn’t wanted to leav it. MOL But fur meez new and yous older furiends too we took a little video of me and meez hawness duwin’ a wecent stowm. Da idea bein’ don’t giv up. Even ifin yous kitty dwops like dead weight when yous first put da hawness on ‘em, keep da faiff. A foo minutes a day at first and work up fwum there. Once kitty is comfy wiff da hawness, attach da leash and leav it fur a foo minutes a day. Eventually add yous selff to da udder end and work up to goin’ outside. But purrlease member to tweat yous kitty fur fleas and all da dangers and hazards of outside life afur yous take them out into da big bad world. And make suwe yous kitty has tags, a micwoship or tattoo. Sum form of identification in da event of da worst. And when weez say tattoo, weez not mean “awt”. Lexi has an ID tattoo in hers ear, cuz when she wuz little dat wuz da pawpular method of id’in’ an animal. It wuz like da purrcursor to da micwochip. Which sis Lexi and me also hav. And a small update, all da boxes awe unpacked, and now mommy’s twyin’ to get evewyfin’ put back where it belongs. Mostly knick knacks and such, but cuz hers keeps twyin’ to be too many places at once and hers awfur-itis is actin’ up cuz of all da rain, she just hasn’t had enuff time yet to get it dun. But don’t worry, weez member yous all wanna tour da house and da new stuffs. 🙂
