A Cats’ Second Favorite Thing To Do

Dezi licks paw

Meowllo everypawdy, me sure hopes these storms pass over soon. And me hopes da weather in your area is more spring like. Speakin’ of da weather, ya’ know all this rain means me hasn’t been fur a stroll in days. Course dat also means me hasn’t had to smooth down me’s wind blown furs or bathe away da pollen so mommy and me don’t sneeze our heads off. You know us kitties spend a lot of time groomin’. Of course nappin’s furst on our agenda, but groomin’ comes in a close second. MOL  50% of our wakin’ hours are spent groomin’. And speakin’ of groomin’ ya’ know who asked me to help spread da word ‘bout good groomin’ habits? Morris, dat’s who. Yep da ginger tabby’s at it again with da 9 Lives Live well and Prospurr campaign; and this time he’s answerin’ questions ‘bout groomin’. Let’s see what advice he has to give.

9 Lives Morris the cat

Dear Morris,

I love my cat, Baxter, but man, does he shed! Every time I leave the house I’m covered in cat hair. It’s getting to the point where we can’t even cuddle together without me looking like the sticky side of a lint roller! Unleash your wisdom, Morris… there must be something I can do.

Sincerely,

Hairy Harry

Morris: Hairy Harry

Dear Hairy Harry,

If your cat is shedding on you, the thing you should tell him is… “thank you!” Being covered in cat fur means you get to look like a cat, which means you get to look more awesome. However, if this isn’t your desired effect (although I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be), try wearing clothes the same color as your cat to camouflage the fur. Kind of like a cat camouflages himself in clean laundry–hey, come to think of it, that could be why you’re always covered in fur! You can also try brushing Baxter a couple times a week to remove excess fur and redistribute the natural oils on his skin–now, that’s what I call a win-win!

Dear Morris,

Lately I’ve been looking slightly less than my best, which is unfortunate because I just started a new job and I wanted to make a good first impression. But instead, my eyes are all puffy and I just haven’t been my chipper self. I’m not sure how to get out of this style rut. Morris, can you help me get my grooming groove back?

Sincerely,

Fashion Faux-Paw

Morris: Fashion Faux Pas

Dear Fashion Faux-Paw,

Let me shed some light (and some fur) on this situation. The main thing I took away from your question is that you’re STRESSED! Starting a new job can be stressful and can lead to falling out of typical routines and lack of sleep. I should know because every time I start shooting a new commercial, I only sleep 15 hours a day instead of 16. But don’t despair! There’s one failsafe way to calm those nerves and give you back your glow. I’m talking about a massage, specifically a kitty massage. We kitties LOVE to give massages–well, we think of it more as kneading but you humans don’t seem to know the difference. A kitty massage will help you relax, and in turn, feel and look better. Plus, it’s purr-ty much impossible to feel stressed when you have the love of a cat.

Morris: Fashion Faus Pas

Thanks Morris those are some really helpful tips. Mommy says a good massage is great fur easin’ da stress of life. And ya’ know what else helps us kitties relieve stress? A good meal or a nice groomin’ session with our human or some treats. And da peeps over at 9 lives have agreed to let me give one of me’s U.S. readers da chance to win a pawsum Grooming Kit fur kitty. You have till Monday April 18th to enter. Click here to zoom over to Rafflecopter to enter and see below fur da prize. Leave a comment befur you go tho’; it’s required. And ifin ya’ go over to the Live Well and Prospurr website, you can enter to win a years supply of 9 Lives cat food, a human sized 9-Lives branded bath robe and a Spa Finder gift card. And one more thing, fur every #MorrisFeeds tweet, 9 Lives will donate a bowl of food to a kitty in need.

And The Storm Rages On

Well meowllo everypawdy. Me’s runnin’ really late today and it’s all cuz of da weather. It’s like Spring furgot she was supposed to be here and Winter came back fur his bags and decided to stay a while. And it’s not just here, lots of you are having da colds and some of you even have snow. OMC  All day yeafurday was dark as night and we just knew somethin’ big was about to happen. So ’round dinner time there was da loudest boom me thinks me’s ever heard, and then da skies opened up and da rains fell. Da wind was blowing so strong dat mommy’s wind chimes was singing non stop. And then came da pellets of ice beating down anything in their path. They were hitting da roof, da walls, da windows and da ground with such force me actually thought they were gonna break thru any minute. So to answer da burnin’ question on your minds…Yessiree, me was scared and hidin’ out behind da chair.

Dezi: Yeah I'm not laying on the cat tree looking out the door today
Of Course me isn’t doin’ this today. MOL

At 5 o’clock this meownin’ mommy finally decided we should try to go to bed and get some sleep. Da storm seemed to have died down so all was quiet. Mommy gathered me up and turned off da lights and to bed we went. We always say our purrayers befur goin’ to sleep so once we settled in we began to purray. Befur we could even get half our purrayers said da storms started ragin’ again. And this time they were even louder. You know, no tee-vee to help mask da sound. You guessed it, me hauled me’s purretty little kitty girly hiney right off da bed and down da hall behind da chair again. Mommy didn’t move, and suddenly me realized me was all alone behind dat chair in da living room. So me came slinkin’ back to da bedroom and mommy. Me crawled under da bed while mommy finshed purrayin’; and then we both just laid there fur what seemed like hours just listening to da raging storm. Mommy cooed at me from da bed and me quietly mewed back at her from under da bed. Around 8:30 this meownin’ da storms finally calmed and me joined mommy on da bed so we could both finally get a little sleep.

Dezi: Your lap is the best mommy
Just hold me mommy, till da storm passes by.

After walking around on mommy’s chest a bit and swooshing me’s tail in her face a few times, me cuddled up next to mommy and we drifted off to dreamland; only to be jolted awake less than an hour later when da storms started up again. Da only good thing ’bout all these storms is dat mommy didn’t have da chance to rest long enough to freeze over, so she didn’t have to wait on me to get around this meownin’. Dat coulda been a long wait cuz coaxin’ me out from under da bed fur brekky took an hour. We can’t rely on mr. weatherman fur accurate repurrting so we’re not sure how long this is goin’ to last. We’ll be around to visit as soon as we can. We’re sendin’ purrayers fur all of you. Stay safe and warm and dry. The storm is still raging on here.

Dezi: I don't know whether to hide or stay here

Blest Sunday Mewsings

Well here we are with another Blest Sunday and me has purrlenty to mew about. Furst up of course are the blessings. We are blest indeed. Me overcame me’s fears this past week and returned to accompanying mommy on her outings. Not that we actually go out that much, but still, to be a good Service cat me must be able to go with mommy when she needs me. And strollin’ is so much fun.

Dezi: Look at what I did to the cat bed. They don't make them like they used to

We also got da most beautiful keepsake urn necklace this week from some of me’s cat scout furmily. It’s a way fur mommy to keep sis Lexi just a little closer; and we love it. A lot of you asked how the Quest went last weekend, so me wanted to give you an update. Me’s patrol, Wally’s Warriors, won da knowledge bowl fur da second year in a row. And we got to our campgrounds befur all da other patrols. Now let me explain how scouts breaks down. We are all pawrt of a big group dat makes up cat scouts. We then choose a patrol to join fur things like quests and jamborees and such so we can have friendly competition between each other. Some patrols are more active than others and hold seperate birthday parties and dinners and such fur their members, but we all come together to celebrate holidays and birthdays and the like. Ifin you’re still on da fence then hop on off and over and join up.

In other news, those of ya’ that have been followin’ me’s blog fur a while have purrobably noticed some subtle changes to me’s mews. Fur those of ya’ dat be new, let me give you a little background to ketch you up. We started out in social media because mommy thought sis Lexi had a story to tell and we wanted to raise awareness to da fact that animals other than seeing eye and search and rescue dogs could be Service animals. Naturally sissy did da talking/mewing, and she did so in kitty speak. Yes, there were a few peeps that had a little trouble understanding her, but fur da most pawrt peeps took to her really well. So when me finally got da chance to say something me used me’s own voice too. Now when we started da bloggy we decided dat altho we would continue me’s voice, we would make it a little easier to understand than sis Lexi’s Texas drawl kitty speak. That means a fur here and a paw there as pawrt of words and a few da’s and dat’s fur the and that. Course, we are from da South so there’s a lot of ing’s dat end up as in’ (s); and dat has nothing to do with kitty speak, it’s jsut da way folks here talk. We even put up a cat speak dictionary.

Dezi: I do love boxes

Rarely do we get a complaint. But as you know we do da occasional review and would love to do more. Of course mommy always offurs to do our reviews in regular English or our traditional “cat speak”. And most of our educational posty’s are in English, least da educational pawrt. Anyways, BlogPaws, da group dat is supposed to bring bloggers and brands together recently wrote a post dat said brands don’t really want to work with a blog that uses cat speak, or animal speak of any kind. And dat ifin ya’ wanted to get paid or win writing awards you would have to use correct English. So naturally we’ve been mullin’ dat over ’round here cuz we would like to make a few dollars fur some extra noms or da occasional toy, and bein’ competitive in nature we would love to be recognized fur our writing effurts. But da more we mulled, da more we came to da same conclusion…Be True To Yourself. We have to remain true to who we are. Mommy and me and me’s soon to be new sisfur are Southern Belles with a bit of a maverick spirit. We want our readers to be able to read our posts and we want to appeal to the brands, but we ain’t changin’ who we are to do those things. How could you trust a word we said ifin we did that? We worked hard to build up a trust with you so that when we do bring you a product you can rely on da fact dat no amount of money swayed our opinion. We believe in telling it like it is and bein’ ourselves while doin’ it.

Dezi on scratcher: Yep da cat bed would probably be more comfortable, but I'm a cat

So goin’ furward, you can expect more of da same. While we are tryin’ to make sure you can read da posts we write, me will always mew in me’s own unique voice. And ifin we bring you products, you can count on da fact dat we’s still tellin’ it like it is. Ifin da big companies don’t wanna work with us…dat’s okay. We’d rather be ourselves than sell out.

Dezi: I'm just going to lay here and have a little bath

Now me bets you’re thinkin’ what in da world does that have to do with blessings right? Well, God made us all different. He didn’t make any mistakes and when you can accept who you are and love yourself, you are blest. And when you have furiends dat love you fur who you are, you are doubly blest. So yep, we are so blest we’re burstin’ at da seams here. How ’bout you? Take a minute today and everyday to give thanks fur da blessings in your life.

Do you think me’s posts are easier to read lately?

Are there words you have trouble with?

Till da next time………………………………..Be Blest!!!

To Stroll Or Not To Stroll

Well it’s finally Furiday and da sun is shinin’. You know all last week it was like winter had returned so me was really happy to see mr. Sunshine this week. Me had been hangin’ in da stroller hopin’ mommy would take me out. And she had purromissed dat when it got warmer out we would indeed go fur a stroll. She sed she would take me up to see Buddy while we were at it, so me watched and waited fur warmer weather to arrive. Da storms finally over, gave way to to da windy days of spring in da South. So on Tuesday after we got up and ’round, mommy told me she had to get some fotos of Buddy fur his wrap up review and we would go fur a stroll afterwards. Dat all sounded pawsum, so me settled on da cat tree to take a little bath afur goin’ visitin’. You know, a girlys’ gotta look her bestest right? Right.

Dezi yawning, Are we ever going for a stroll?

Mommy cleaned up da kitchen and put on some strollin’ clothes and gathered da camera and then me. Well dat’s where things went sideways. Mommy carried me over to da stroller and me went nuts. Yep, dat’s right, me got all scared and just plain freaked out. Now let me say dat me may not unnerstand exactly what’s goin’ on and where sis Lexi is, but me knows one thing fur sure, She Ain’t Here!!! Mommy gathered her up in her arms and they walked out da door and she ain’t never come back home, least not da way me knew her. Since she left, mommy and me have stayed home and not really gone anywhere, so this was da furst time since sissy left me dat me was gonna be goin’ out, and me just wasn’t sure me really wanted to do dat. You know, was mommy gonna be leavin’ me where ever she left sis Lexi? Was she gonna take me away to never return home again? Me didn’t have da answers, but me wasn’t havin’ any of dat; so me just got so scared dat me piddled a little. Yep, me knows it’s embarrassin’ but me sure did it.

Dezi licks paw, A girl's gotta look her best at all times

Mommy didn’t react like me had ‘spected, but she did react. Mommy started bawlin’ and held me even closer. And she started cooin’ ’bout how much she loved me and such, but all me could see was da open stroller awaitin’ me’s depawsit.

Sweetheart, I would never take you away. You know I love and adore you and never want to be without you.

Yeah mommy me knows and you say dat all da time; but you said it to sis Lexi too and….She Ain’t Here anymore!!!

Oh baby, you know I didn’t want Lexi to leave us. I would have done anything to keep her here, but sometimes there’s just nothing more we can do. God needed sissy more than we do, and we just have to accept that. You know your sissy was sick and in pain and we didn’t want that for her. So even though we have the sads, Lexi is in a much better place now. She’s no longer sick or hurting and she’ll always be with us, because we’ll never ever forget her.

Dezi: This better be a short stroll. Mommy has to take me back home.
See how me’s hunkered down and scared?

Virtual bloggin’ me unnerstands dat mommy, but real me, da one da lives in our house doesn’t get it at all. Anyways, mommy has this sayin’ ’bout gettin’ back up on da horse, so after a good ole cry fest she placed me in da stroller and cleaned up da piddle from da floor and changed clothes. Okay, maybe it was more than a piddle…Me was scared. Not sure where da horse comes into play here, but mommy likes her sayings so we’ll just go with it.

Dezi and Buddy: The nerve. He just hissed at me
Don’t you be hissin’ at me Buddy. See ifin me shares anymore treats with you. Ha!!!

So, in da stroller me laid down and didn’t make a peep, chirp or mew. Out da door we went. Da wind was stronger than mommy ‘spected, but we headed up to check on Buddy anyways. On da way up me heard lots of birdy’s chirpin’ and lots of them flew right in front of da stroller. Me eased up a bit and actually stood up to get a better view of all those birdys. Sorry Tabbies, me likes good bird teevee. We arrived at Buddys’ ‘pawrtment and he was standin’ at da door as ifin he was waitin’ fur us. Once inside, Buddy purrceeded to hiss at me. Can you believe dat? Me? Da kitty respawnsible fur gettin’ him some good noms. Da kitty dat made hims daddy want a kitty in da furst place. Little ole Southern Belle me. Well, bein’ da Southern ladycat dat me is, me turned and showed him me’s backside. Yep, to borrow one of mommy’s sayings, he can kiss me’s lily white. MOL   A few fotos later and we was off.

Dezi: Those birds sure are close to my stroller
You can’t see ’em, but there’s a lot of birds me’s watchin’. Even a few “crows” gossiping at da office. MOL

By now all dat fear me had was gone and me was enjoyin’ me’s time with mommy. Seems every step she took caused da birds to flush and fly right in front of me. We went over so mommy could sit down on one of da benches and me could have a good view of da birds and squirrels. We didn’t stay out too long as da wind was really blowin’ and altho’ da sun was out it was still a little cooler than we like. You know, mommy’s over purrtective and didn’t want either of us to ketch a cold. Once we got back in da house, me strutted ’round like a peacock. Me was so happy dat me had courage was home again. Mommy said it was really purrtant dat me be okay leavin’ da house again, so we’s been out fur a little stroll every day since then. And me’s enjoyed every one of them. Dat’s right, no more piddle puddles. We even went to her doctors ‘pointment yesfurday, and me was so happy to see all me’s furiends again. But it has been windy here lately, so me has to do some major groomin’ when we get back home. Ya’ know a girlys’ always gotta look her bestest. Me’s joinin’ Rascal and Rocco fur da Pet Parade as me does every week.

Dezi bathes, With all this fur it's hard to reach everywhere
Kittens!!! It was windy. Me’s gotta get me’s furs groomed back down.

How do you get over your fears?

Do you jump right back into a situation that scared you?
