Winter Is Coming and We’re Having Treats

Hey is anypawdy out there? It’s me RaenaBelle. You should see da outsides here. It’s so wet, gray and yucky lookin’. Mommy and sis Dezi say dat Winter is comin’. Well, I don’t think I’s gonna like this Winter. I’s do try to like everypawdy. Mommy says dat’s what good girlys do, but ya’ know there’s just some…

Dezi and Raena sitting on the Liberty Cat tree

Raena!!! Furst of all, Winter isn’t a purrson. And secondly, tellin’ ‘bout peeps you don’t like just fur da tellin’ of it ain’t nice either.

Well ifin Winter ain’t a purrson, then what is it sissy?

It’s a season Raena. And you purrobably won’t like it; mommy and me don’t. It gets cold and storms a lot. We get ice and snow and mommy gets even slower.

Well then let’s just tell it not to come sissy.

But dat we could Raena, dat we could. (Dezi dreamily thinks about fun in the sun) There are some good things dat happen in da Winter, so we just hunker down and do da bestest we can to make it till Spring. Extra treats and snuggles help, along with da ‘lectric blanky.

Extra treats and snuggles? Dat sounds wonderful. What’s a ‘lectric blanky?

You’ll see, mommy’ll be draggin’ it out befur long.

 Halo Mix 'n Mores Chicken

Ya’ reckon she’ll buy us some more of these Halo Mix ‘n Mores?

Dezi and Raena eating

Could be Raena. Ya’ know, a little while back we joined up with Halo Pets to be influencers; and they sent us a bag of their brand new Freeze dried cage-free Chicken Mix ‘n Mores to try out. Ya’ know how much we luv our freeze dried noms and treats, so we were really excited to try these out.

(Disclaimer: We received a bag of Halo Mix ‘n Mores free of charge We weren’t asked to write a review, but thought they were good enough that you, our friends and family might be interested in learning about them. All opinions are our own.)

 Raena eats treats

Yeah, they were really good sissy. Small kitty bite size niblets of chicken, chicken liver, whole flaxseed, salt, salmon oil and mixed tocopherols. Da bag says they use whole chickens. Betcha’ our furiend Bear would luv dat. And there’s no grains included, no rendered meat and no dehydration. Mommy says they were easily crumbled but also held their shape well. We ate them mostly as treats, but mommy did put some over our foods too. Me gave ‘em a 4 paws up dat’s fur sure.

 Dezi eats treats

Me agrees Raena, they were purretty tasty. Me knows mommy thinks they be a little ‘spensive at $17.41 fur a 6 ounce bag, but seems all freeze dried noms and treats are costly. Fur tastiness me gives them 4 paws up too. Mommy said she was glad dat both of us ate them and liked them; so she gave them a thumb up fur dat. Only 1 thumb, cuz da cost be a little purrhibitive fur a lot of peeps. They come in 2 different flavors for kitties, chicken and salmon.  Halo does a lot fur those kitties dat be less furtunate than us and doggies too. They’re most notably known fur their Spot’s Stew, but they are diversifyin’ their purroduct menu, so check ‘em out. In da meantime…

 Pet Parade Blog Hop Badge

I’s wanna do it sissy. We’re joinin’ Rascal and Rocco fur da weekly Pet Parade. Now I’s gonna go see ‘bout getting’ some of those extra treats sissy was talkin’ ‘bout. Hope you all have a pawsum weekend and gets lots of treats yourselves.

  1. Winter isn’t far away but right now – we’re having some nice weather as we watch the leaves falling from the trees…..that’s the first sign for us that cold is coming. I’ll be inside and nice and warm but I always start thinking about all the kitties with no homes trying to find a warm spot. We will be putting our heated cat house on the front porch soon for those wanderers in our neighborhood who need a safe warm place to sleep. Love that last picture of you Raenabelle!

    Hugs, Sammy

    1. Oh Sammy, seems ’round here we go from a hunnered million to 20 overnight. And our leaves ain’t purretty like ya’ll’s. But I’s fankful dat like you I’s gonna be inside and warm and cozy. I’s got so much to learn ’bout da world and these things called seasons. Sis Dezi meows ’bout those kitties dat be less furtunate than us as well. I’s sure am purrayin’ fur ’em all. Big hugs to ya’l and have a great weekend.

  2. I love winter even though we get snowed in and it is cold. It is the perfect excuse to stay in with the kitties. I am sorry it slows your Mommy down though. Those treats are pricey, but they sound good. Have a great weekend. XO

  3. That price for those treats is way too expensive. I could just buy a whole chicken and cut it up and freeze in batches. This is crazy to spend $17 for a 6 ounce bag. How do they justify that? Super secret ingredients that give your cat superpowers or make them live for a hundred years? Really?

As for winter, we live in Oregon and it rains all about 9 months of the year round here so that doesn’t mean winter (except cccolder rain in winter – we will admit to that). The rain keeps it green here and we have lots of evergreen trees so it is beautiful year round. But when we get frozen rain and ice storms, that is no fun but it only happens a few times during the winter.

If we get snow, however, it is soooo beautiful. If you walk outside while it is snowing it is so calm and peaceful and usually no wind so it seems warmer than the rain. Unfortunately we only get snow in Portland once or twice a year. If it happens at night all the neighbors come out to make snowmen! Or have snowball fights. Even at 2 or 3 in the morning. That’s because it usually melts by about 9 or 10 AM. Then the next night the slush turns to black ice on the roads. But we enjoy the snow while it is here. It is so beautiful!

    1. MOL Yeppers Izzy and awnty Miss Julie, mommy says da same thing. Altho’ it seems all freeze dried noms, which is what we eat, are ‘spensive. There’s no secret ingredients and fur sure I’s didn’t get any super powrs. Now I’s feelin’ ripped off. MOL

MeOW We woulda thought it would be really cold and snowy all da time there. Ya’ll’s weather sounds a lot like ours. Altho’ nopawdy ’round here is out makin’ snowmen. We either don’t get enuff of it fur dat, or it won’t stick and turns to ice too fast. Big hugs to ya’ll and have a pawsum weekend.

      1. It’s usually only in the middle of night we make snowmens because you are right – it disappears too soon. As soon as the sun comes up. But every other year or so we get a snowstorm that sticks around for a couple of days. Then the kids are out of school and I can’t drive to work and we love it.

It’s weird but everyone is more friendly than usual in the snow than if it’s the hots. Oregonians are known for being friendly anyway, but it’s even more so if there is snow on the ground. People help their neighbors with shoveling sidewalks and salting their driveways, etc. the snow just brings out the smiles around here. Of course a lot of us are avid skiers so that could be part of it. We have the beach an hour and a half away and the ski slopes about the same distance. It is beautiful here but you have to enjoy rain.

One odd thing about Oregonians and rain is – we NEVER carry umbrellas. We have hats, hoods, raincoats, but the only people who carry umbrellas are those from out of state. Isn’t that an interesting fact? It rains a lot but a lot of the time it’s more like a lightly falling mist. Only occasionally do we get those big fat raindrops that you and Dezi got caught out in recently. So why worry about an umbrella?

What types of rain do you normally get?

        1. More furiendly? MeOWwww Snow makes peeps ’round here meaner. ‘Course, we don’t actually know much ’bout shovelin’ snow, but nopawdy’s gonna be helpin’ anypawdy else to do it. As fur our rain, it’s usually da drenchin’ kind. But funny enuff, peeps ’round here don’t really carry umbrellas either. We’re sure da rich and business folk like lawyers and such do, but da average purrson, just runs to their or holds a magazine or their arm over theor head. MOL Mommy has naturally curly hair, so she just usually tries to get in as quick as pawssible and doesn’t worry ’bout da hair. We do occasionally get those mists, but not very offen.

          1. Seriously, people around here are very friendly and helpful when it snows. I think a lot of our ancestors came from snowy areas. Mine came from Sweden, Ireland and then Minnesota and Montana. We like winter sports so it is like home when it snows.

And I am like your mama. My hair curls anyway and we all go for the natural look here, not the hair-sprayed perfect yet unnatural Hollywood look here. But I do wear glasses so I like a hat or hood to keep me from seeing all those raindrops.

I think your rain is more like a tropical rain with big heavy drops, sometimes with lots of thunder and lightening? And even a little of times when it’s warmer out. We hardly ever get thunder and lightning like we did in Montana with warm rainstorms. It’s just a cool drizzle for 6 months out of the year.

I would really rather have the odd warm drenching rain than all the cold/cool rain we have here. It does make it green and beautiful though,

But even more beautiful is tropical areas such as Hawaii which my brother and his wife took me to last month. It was beautiful, warm and rained jut a bit. But it was warm rain.

I want to move there so badly. But my career doesn’t lend me to working in Hawaii. I sell Manufactured Homes and they are not allowed there. I’m sure you have there though. Actually I’ve lived here in Portland since I was 3 years old. I’d like to try somewhere else for a change. Maybe your area where it’s usually warm?

            1. It’s nice dat peeps are good natured in all dat cold and yucky stuffs. And yes, our rain comes with “storms” Da thunder and lightnin’ and winds accompany any rainfall we get. In da summer da rain is warm and in da winter it’s freezin’ and turns to ice when it hits da surface. We don’t think we’d know what to do ifin we got rain without da thunder boomers and lightnin’. They kinda let us know it'[s comin’. MOL

Mommy has always wanted to go to Hawaii. She luvs tropical plants, altho’ we have nuffin’ since we lost everythin’ when our ‘pawrtment flooded. But she says Hawaii has amazin’ plants and weather. No Manufactured homes there? MeOWwww dat’s amazin’. Yep, whey’re certainly allowed here in Oklahoma. We’d luvs fur you to live down here. It’s warm more months than it’s not. Altho’ it’s gettin’ colder outside, we’re still usin’ da air conditioner in da house and car cuz it’s so warm. ‘Course this time of year, da weather is tryin’ to decide what it wants to do, so we’ll have one day in da 80’s or 90’s and then da next day it’ll be 40 or 50. MOL And it’s not uncommon fur us to be in da 70’s in da middle of winter. It would be different fur you, but you’d luv it. Our biggest sayin’ is, Ifin ya’ don’t like da weather, wait 10 minutes, it’ll change. MOL
