God Bless America: United We Stand

Dezi and Raena in an America flag frame with the stars and stripes

MeOWwww What a night we had. Even ifin you’re livin’ under a rock like us, you know dat da whole world has had it’s eyes on da U.S. lately. As most of ya’ know, we in this house are very Patriotic and luv our Country. You also know we don’t meow ‘bout pawlitics on our bloggy. We do address da subject in comments when others blog ‘bout it, but fankfully all da worry and stress over such matters belong to our humans. With all dat’s been goin’ on lately in da Presidential race, mommy just couldn’t stay silent and so she began to add some pawlitical tweets and a few Facebook shares. Behind da scenes we were all purrayin’ fur our Country and those who will and do hold office. No matter what side of da fence you fell on yesfurday, it’s time to unite once again today. For United we Stand and Divided we fall.

We’re gonna keep it short today. Mommy has her regular monthly doctors ‘pointment this afternoon, so we’re still going to be behind in visiting. Hopefully our comment purroblem has been fixed and we’re no longer spam. Fank you fur bearin’ with us durin’ our time of missin’ comments. Dat wasn’t any fun. Me’s gonna go ketch a quick nap befur mommy gets in da shower. A kittys’ work is never done.  Anyways, we do hope you all have a pawsum day. And, God Bless America.

Service Cats: Harness or Vest, Leash or Stroller

Well, it’s Service Cat Monday and time fur another infurmational, educational posty. We’ve answered most of da trainin’ questions ya’ll have asked. We’re goin’ to address da last one we received by e-mail today. ‘Bout a week ago mommy was talkin’ with one of our awnties who was askin’ ‘bout Raena and how her trainin’ was comin’ along. She expressed her “glee” in hearin’ ‘bout Raena’s drivin’ abilities. Now some of ya’ are fairly new to our bloggy and don’t have a clue why she would be “gleeful”. After all, our Service Cat posts have been very serious. Sure, me slipped a teensy bit of humor in each posty, but fur da most pawrt they were all serious business. Now, me specifically chose da word “glee” to describe her feelings cuz it means, open delight or purrleasure. She recalled to mommy some of da funny postys ‘bout me’s trainin’ sessions. And she asked mommy ifin she thought Raena would be more or less comical than me.

 Dezi laying in wheelchair

Of course, mommy can’t really answer dat question, cuz each kitty is different; and even usin’ da same trainin’ methods, each kitty will respawnd differently. Anyways, me got to meowin’ with mommy ‘bout this and ifin we don’t get anymore questions, then we thought it would be good to post a few of mes old trainin’ stories so you’ll know what kind of fun we’re in fur here at casa High. While trainin’ is serious business, there is fun to be had. Mommy says you have to remember to keep kitty innerested, and dat means ya’ can’t always be serious. Anyways, let’s get on with today’s posty. As with all our educational posts da following will be in human English. And ifin you’ve missed any posts in this series, purrlease click on da links at da bottom of this post.

 Dezi in harness

So this week we received an email that asked about Service Animal “Vests” and our ability to perform our tasks from inside a stroller. This reader also asked why, if we’re harness and leashed trained, would we need the stroller? Let’s first talk about the “Vests/Harness”.

 Raena in her harness

The Service Animal Vest can be purchased from many different places, including those agencies that certify/register Service Animals. (While researching for this post we found Service Animal Vests at several places including Walmart, and ranging in price from $8.00 to $150.00.)  All of these agencies, including the reputable ones, charge a fee for registration. Sometimes those fees do include a Vest, but most often Vests are available to purchase for an additional charge. But remember, certification/registration is not required by law and is totally voluntary. Another thing to remember is that only dogs trained for a few specific tasks are even recognized by the ADA as Service Animals. Many years ago when all species could be recognized, sis Lexi was certified/registered and had a Vest. Neither the Registration or Vest made her any more of a Service Cat than me without them. And it didn’t stop people from asking what she did and how. The Service Animal Vest is merely an early visual signal to those around that an animal is trained to perform some life saving task for their handler and that you shouldn’t do anything to distract that animal. There are also decals, cards, stickers and other items one can purchase to display as well.

Raena in stroller looking out the back

Now, why a stroller instead of us kitties walkin’ alongside mommy on our leashes? First we’ll say that mommy is so grateful that she has us and can have us accompany her wherever she goes. Altho’ mommy thinks some people scream “allergies” and don’t really have them, she respects others’ rights. And as much as mommy loves us, she doesn’t want to eat our fur, or anybody else’s for that matter. No matter how comfortable an animal may be in public, we are going to shed and our furs are going to float about until they land on something. And altho’ we are fairly large kitties, we are still much smaller than most rushing peeps, store buggies, etc.. Inside the stroller we are safe from handsy small peeps, careless phone chatting shoppers, diseases and filth on floors and parking lots that we could spread to mommy or each other and disease carrying insects and other animals. The stroller allows mommy to get her business done without having to worry about our safety. While out in the public, mommy doesn’t need a massage or to be helped out of the shower. She doesn’t need us to answer the phone or bring it to her. The thing mommy needs from us in public is to alert her before a Syncope incident.

Dezi looks out back of stroller

Now, we want to make certain everybody understands what Syncope is. Mommy does not have seizures. The definition of Syncope is: A sudden loss of consciousness. Mommy hates for this to happen in public and does everything she can to avoid it. But the possibility always exists, so having us with her makes a world of difference. Being in the stroller allows us to be near mommy, while keeping our furs away from those who might find a kittys presence offensive. The material that makes up the stroller allows us to still see and smell any changes in mommys body chemistry and her to be able to see and hear us alerting her. There’s no big obtrusive scene being played out to draw attention to us. Most people don’t even notice our presence unless we’re standing in line or waiting for someone or something. Most people who truly have need of a Service Animal aren’t trying to draw attention to themselves or the animal. The stroller is very convenient for us, but it also allows us to respect the rights of others.

 Raena in stroller

Well, we do hope this has cleared up any confusion about “Vests” and “Strollers”. We are in no way knocking the Service Animal Vest, but they’re not required by law. And because there’s no uniform code or governing body over these agencies, they don’t always guarantee the animal wearing them is actually a properly trained Service Animal.

Dezi laying in cat tree in new harness

Lessen we get anymore questions ‘tween now and next week, our next Service Animal Monday post will be a look back on some of mes comical wheelchair training. We’re getting ready fur Raenas training soon. Mommy’s already started cutting up some foam bumper pads in purr-purration. It is stormin’ here and our comments on WordPress hosted blogs are still goin’ to ya’ll’s spam folders. We would ask dat you purrlease check your spam folders fur us and approve our purrevious comments. There’s a couple blogs dat have done so and our comments are now showin’ up again on their posts. Mommy, Raena and me would like to remind all Americans to purrlease go out and VOTE tomorrow. We know a lot of you voted early, but fur those dat haven’t, tomorrow’s da day. We’re purrayin’ fur our Country, may Freedom continue to reign. God Bless America!!!

Dezi rolls on the Yeowww nip nana while Raena prepares for an attack

Ya’ know sissy, not everypawdy had a birthday this week.

Raena sniffing the Whole Life Chicken treats sent for Dezi's birthday

Sissy, come see what you got fur your birthday.

You’re gonna share right?

Dezi sniffs the Whole Life chicken breast treats aunty Jeanne sent for her birthday

Me’s favorite treats. Fank you awnty Jeanne.

Me knows Raena. And altho’ me’s so grateful fur all our furiends, da cards, da new nip nanners and da pawsum bag of freeze dried chicky breasts from awnty Jeanne, me’s mostest grateful dat me has a furever home with a mommy who luvs me more than anythin’ in da universe. Me’s even grateful fur you li’l sis. And while me’s thinkin’ ‘bout it me needs to tell you all dat our comments on most WordPress hosted blogs are bein’ marked spam. So ifin we’ve “liked” your posty, or ya’ think we shoulda left ya’ a comment, purrlease check your spam folder, cuz we just might be there.

I’s happy to hear dat you luvs me sissy, cuz I’s luvs you very much. Are you gonna tell everypawdy ‘bout mommys blessings?

Dezi and Raena with the Yeowww nip nana

Yeah, this happened so fast it wasn’t da foto she had planned to take. She really regrets not gettin’ Raena’s face in this shot too.

Yes Raena, me was gettin’ to dat. Anyways, da awnty Anonymous dat sent money fur meez birthday pizza, dat me still hasn’t had by da way. And it’s not cuz mommy didn’t try. Sure ‘nuff, just as planned, mommy got on da catputer da day of meez birthday to order our pizza and get her some breadsticks, when she noticed da store address they was tryin’ to send our order to was 35 miles away (we don’t have delivery, only pick up and dine in). Mommy tried to change da store a few times and then she just decided to call in our order. Da fone rang and rang and rang, but nopawdy ever answered. Mommy purromissed she’d try again da next day. Same thing happened da next day and da day after. Well mommy put in a call to da Pizza headquarters and turns out, our Pizza Hut closed on meez birthday. Dat’s right, they closed down on da day of meez birthday fur remodelin’, and won’t be open fur a few weeks. So meez birthday pizza’s gonna be a Gotchaday pizza instead. But dat’s okay, me can eat pizza anytime.

Uh Sissy? You still didn’t tell ‘bout mommys’ blessin’. Ya’ know, how awnty Anonymous sent some green papers and told mommy to go to da grocery store and pick up a few items fur her to eat? And how awnty Donna sent green papers to buy tags fur da car?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Well Raena, me was getting’ to it, but since you just did, we really wanna say Fank you. Ya’ know mommy luvs us so much and goes without a lot so we are taken care of. Me knows she worries a lot ‘bout how things are so ‘spensive and dat da monies don’t always stretch far enuff. And when November rolls ‘round and we suddenly have bills dat only happen once a year, it really stresses her out. But cuz it’s meez birthday and gotchaday month, she puts on a happy and doesn’t let it show. So we really do purreciate all da help. Now awnty Anonymous trusts mommy to do what they discussed with da money she sent, but we thought we’d post a couple fotos of what mommy bought fur her to eat anyways. Mommy even tried to get a pizza mix fur meez birthday since da Hut was closed. Mommy liked it fine, but me thought da pepperonis was a bit small. Da same Anonymous awnty sent us some noms too. We be so blest we just can’t contain it. Altho’ we’ve got material blessings to count this week, they’re fur sure not da only blessings we’re counting.

We feel so blest everyday to have each of you in our lives. We know we’re blest to have a roof over our heads and a warm bed to sleep in. A luvvin’ mommy and food in our bellies. Each week we remind you to take a minute to give thanks for the blessings in your lives. We know things aren’t purrfect and dat sometimes it can be hard to see da blessings fur da pains and curses of everyday life. But mommy says, as long as there’s breath in your body, you are blest and things can change fur da better.

Raena plays with the Yeowww nip nana

Mommy says we’re her biggest and bestest blessings, doesn’t she sissy?

Dezi plays with her new birthday nip nana

Yes Raena, she does. Blessings come in all shapes and sizes and can sometimes be found where you least expect them. So really, just take a minute today and everyday to give fanks fur da blessings in your life. And fank you all fur bein’ blessings in ours.

Raena plays with the Yeowww nip nana

And don’t furget to check out all da Sunday Selfies over at da Kitties Blue we’ve got treat eatin’ selfies. Oh and ‘member to check fur our comments on your WordPress hosted blog posts in your spam folder. ‘Pawrently we’ve been spam since Furiday. MOL I’s gotta go ask sissy what spam is and have some more of those birthday treats; see ya’ll later.

Winter Is Coming and We’re Having Treats

Hey is anypawdy out there? It’s me RaenaBelle. You should see da outsides here. It’s so wet, gray and yucky lookin’. Mommy and sis Dezi say dat Winter is comin’. Well, I don’t think I’s gonna like this Winter. I’s do try to like everypawdy. Mommy says dat’s what good girlys do, but ya’ know there’s just some…

Dezi and Raena sitting on the Liberty Cat tree

Raena!!! Furst of all, Winter isn’t a purrson. And secondly, tellin’ ‘bout peeps you don’t like just fur da tellin’ of it ain’t nice either.

Well ifin Winter ain’t a purrson, then what is it sissy?

It’s a season Raena. And you purrobably won’t like it; mommy and me don’t. It gets cold and storms a lot. We get ice and snow and mommy gets even slower.

Well then let’s just tell it not to come sissy.

But dat we could Raena, dat we could. (Dezi dreamily thinks about fun in the sun) There are some good things dat happen in da Winter, so we just hunker down and do da bestest we can to make it till Spring. Extra treats and snuggles help, along with da ‘lectric blanky.

Extra treats and snuggles? Dat sounds wonderful. What’s a ‘lectric blanky?

You’ll see, mommy’ll be draggin’ it out befur long.

 Halo Mix 'n Mores Chicken

Ya’ reckon she’ll buy us some more of these Halo Mix ‘n Mores?

Dezi and Raena eating

Could be Raena. Ya’ know, a little while back we joined up with Halo Pets to be influencers; and they sent us a bag of their brand new Freeze dried cage-free Chicken Mix ‘n Mores to try out. Ya’ know how much we luv our freeze dried noms and treats, so we were really excited to try these out.

(Disclaimer: We received a bag of Halo Mix ‘n Mores free of charge We weren’t asked to write a review, but thought they were good enough that you, our friends and family might be interested in learning about them. All opinions are our own.)

 Raena eats treats

Yeah, they were really good sissy. Small kitty bite size niblets of chicken, chicken liver, whole flaxseed, salt, salmon oil and mixed tocopherols. Da bag says they use whole chickens. Betcha’ our furiend Bear would luv dat. And there’s no grains included, no rendered meat and no dehydration. Mommy says they were easily crumbled but also held their shape well. We ate them mostly as treats, but mommy did put some over our foods too. Me gave ‘em a 4 paws up dat’s fur sure.

 Dezi eats treats

Me agrees Raena, they were purretty tasty. Me knows mommy thinks they be a little ‘spensive at $17.41 fur a 6 ounce bag, but seems all freeze dried noms and treats are costly. Fur tastiness me gives them 4 paws up too. Mommy said she was glad dat both of us ate them and liked them; so she gave them a thumb up fur dat. Only 1 thumb, cuz da cost be a little purrhibitive fur a lot of peeps. They come in 2 different flavors for kitties, chicken and salmon.  Halo does a lot fur those kitties dat be less furtunate than us and doggies too. They’re most notably known fur their Spot’s Stew, but they are diversifyin’ their purroduct menu, so check ‘em out. In da meantime…

 Pet Parade Blog Hop Badge

I’s wanna do it sissy. We’re joinin’ Rascal and Rocco fur da weekly Pet Parade. Now I’s gonna go see ‘bout getting’ some of those extra treats sissy was talkin’ ‘bout. Hope you all have a pawsum weekend and gets lots of treats yourselves.
