Service Cats: Will Raena Ever Learn to Drive

Hey Raena, do you know what today is?

Dezi and Raena with nip toy

Is it another holiday sissy? I’s luvs these holidays; they’re so much fun.

Raena hugs Dezi while she lays on the brown cat tree

Get off me Raena. Me doesn’t want a hug right now.

But I’s luvs you sissy.

No silly, it’s Service Cat Monday. And the furst one of the new year.

Well, what are we gonna talk about; mommy crawlin’ all over the house? You know, I’s not big enuff to give her a ride, or even let her hold onto mines tail so I’s could pull her from room to room.

Yeah, that wasn’t really the plan Raena. Me isn’t big enuff fur that either. Mommy’s more than a little peeved at the wheelchair peeps. They billed fur brand new wheelchair batteries a few months back, but mommy thinks they gave her used ones. She thinks that cuz they’re already dead and won’t hold a charge. Then to top it all off, they ain’t comin’ out to replace ‘em till next week. What do you wanna bet they rebill fur new batteries again? In the meantime, mommy’s been crawlin’ around since Thanksgiving.

Raena sits in mommys lap and massages her

At least we can massage her arms so she can use them to pull herself along in the mornings. I’s even gave her head a whacky paw this morning, to keep her from hittin’ it on the bedside vanity.

You did at that Raena. ‘Course now she probably has a headache. That means more head massages today.

I’s already gave her one after brekky sissy. Ya’ reckon she’ll want another?

 Dezi snuggles in mommys lap

And lots of cuddly snuggles

Yep, me’s sure of it. She’s also having some teeth problems, that are makin’ her sinuses act up so she can’t hardly breathe.

Is that why she’s so hot too sissy?

Dezi and Raena chat in the chair

Yeah sis, she’s runnin’ a fever. Hopefully it’ll go away soon. (no, mommy doesn’t have any dental insurance and there’s no community type programs she qualifies for. She needs dentures to get rid of all the problems once and for all.) Anyways, we hope to get new batteries fur the wheelchair soon, so mommy can start training Raena to drive. It’s about to get real interestin’ here. So we hope to have lots of adventures to share with you all this year. And remember, ifin you have any training questions, or just feline questions in general, let us know. You can ask in a comment, email or email via our contact page. Our contact page sends an email directly to us and is totally private. That means nopawdy sees what you write but us. Ifin you’ve missed any of our Service Cat posts, you can check them out by clicking the links below. Me’s gonna go give mommy another massage now. We’ll be by to visit as soon as we can. We hope you all had a pawsum Mew Year.

Till the next time………………………………..Be Blest!!!

  1. I hope your Mommy will be better soon. How terrible it is to have aching teeth and sinus issues to come with.
I’m feeling really blessed right now that health care in our country is different.

And the battery issue on top! Call them every other day to explain how your Mommy needs that chair. It is outrageous that they would make somebody crawl around the appartement for months!
The very first paragraph of our Basic Constitutional Law says: The dignity of man is inviolable
I know it isn’t your law, but maybe ask them what they think of it

I’ll stop now. I’m getting more and more furious about this.

I really hope things sort out for you!

    1. Mommy says fank you. As fur da wheelchair peeps, they don’t care. They say at least mommy can crawl and at some point get up and walk. Some peeps are just bedridden when their chair goes out. so we are very blest mommy has us to look after her. Sorry we upset you. We had planned to start trainin’ Raena, but couldn’t and thought we’d ‘splain why. Mommy fell outta da bed and crawled ’round fur years befur she agreed to get da wheelchair. Soon we’ll have it back and dat’s what counts. Big hugs

  2. Crap, it sound like your mum is having some health issues. Can she buy her own batteries and be reimbursed? That way she’ll know she’s getting new ones. As for her teeth, can she start an internet funding drive? I know next to nothing about those, but it may prove worthwhile. It may take quite a long time but she may get there eventually.

    1. Fank you. Mommy’s thought about a fundraiser, but just hates to ask fur help fur herself. But we’ll think ’bout it some more. As fur da batteries, unfurtunately there’s no reimbursement. So we just kinda have to take their word fur it. Besides, da batteries cost more than mommy makes in a month, so we couldn’t afford to buy them without much savin’. It’s okay tho’, she crawled around fur years befur she got da wheelchair to begin with. She’s a lot older now, but our ‘pawrtment’s not too big, so she doesn’t have too far to go.Da biggest deal is da fall from da bed to da floor to start da crawl. MOL It can be quite a site. Big hugs

  3. This battery business is ridiculous! They should provide some kind of backup in your case (being that it takes them so long to get there). Yes, Medicare probably doesn’t allow them to do that – because it would make sense. I still don’t get why Medicare can’t figure out how to cover basic dental and vision services. I will refrain from further rants on the subject … but I do know how frustrating it can be so I’m always here to listen (ie … did you know Medicare is exempt from mental health parity? yep … most regulations on health care these days exempt government programs!).
I’m glad you have your girls … a little purring furball (or two) fixes just about anything 🙂 Sending all of you love and hugs.

    1. Yeah, no backup plans allowed. MOL We didn’t know dat ’bout Medicare, but we don’t have any licensed Psychologists anywhere ’round anyways. Mommy tried once to get help, but there isn’t any. Kinda like with her teefies. MOL Ya’ get old and poor and thrown out to pasture and die in pain. It’s all good tho’, mommy’s a fighter and most of da good foods she got over da holidays she’s ate up, so soon she’ll be back to not eatin’ and her teefies should calm down some. Mommy says we’re much better than an apple a day. And we luv gettin’ cuddles and luvvin’ from mommy. So it’s a win win here. 🙂 Big hugs to ya’ll.

      Luv ya’ bunches

      1. I hear you on the teeths. My mommy is getting older too and teeth are breaking & old fillings falling out even when she eats something soft! No more crunchy food for her. Even though she loves apples and veggies (yuck), she has a hard time eating them. And she doesn’t have much of an appetite anymore either. But your mommy can’t go without eating! It wrecks your teeth even more to not eat. Something about the lack of saliva makes your teeth fall apart even faster. At least have her drink lots of water. Take care of her, you 2 and make sure she eats good, just like she does for you.

        1. Yeah, mommy hasn’t eaten fruits fur a long time. She used to luv granny smiths and caramel apples, but no more. And yes, you heard right, lack of saliva does make teefies worse. Dat’s one of da reasons mommys’ teefies are so bad. Her meds cause dry mouth, so she drinks constantly. And not havin’ money fur foods, she just doesn’t eat. She’s been stretchin’ out those cheater macaronis she got in a box befur Christmas by only usin’ a little of da cheese powder and usin’ her own noodles. But they’re almost gone, so it’s back to coffee and lots of it. 🙂 As soon as she can find some lettuce seeds fur da AeroGarden she got fur Christmas she’ll be able to grow her own salads and have dat at least to eat. But she’s used to not eatin’. Once da hunger pangs go away, she hardly notices. She says it’s way more purrtant fur us to eat good so we can stay healthy. She can’t afford big VET bills and we don’t wanna go. Raena says she never wants to go back there. They stole all kinds of things from her and poked her so many times she screamed. Anyways, We do purray you have a wonderful Mew Year and dat your teefies won’t hurt. Big hugs to ya’ll.

  4. I just know that Raena Belle i going to be a fine driver. She is smart talented and brave! When she first starts driving though, look out for your tails. Little Evan our grand son brought his little electric car over here, and the first thing he did was run over my sister Ms. Murphy’s tail. Murphy meowed and Evan cried because he hurt her. These mechanical things have a way of getting on a kitty’s tail if you don’t watch them. Murphy is fine, but keeps a good distance now when anything with wheels is around!

    1. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaw So sorry ’bout Murphy’s tail. Mommy’s always careful with our tail floof and me knows to stay outta da way like sis Lexi did when me learned to drive.

  5. I can’t believe you’ve had battery problems this long and not mentioned it! Is there another service company you can go through, or is this part of the obamination miscare mess?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Well, there wasn’t really any need to mention it, there’s been nuffin’ we could do ’bout it. It’s a Medicare thing. You have to find a Medicare approved DME dat will come out and service da chair. We asked mommys case manager fur recommendations, but she never got back to us ’bout it. And so we had to use da same company we used fur da last batteries and they come outta da city. They only come down this far away once they have 10 service calls in da area. So, we’ve just had to wait. Hopefully they’ll be here soon.

        1. MOL Yep, da city be ’bout 3 hours away, so it’s a long drive. With gas so ‘spensive they’re not comin’ all da way here fur one purrson. Not too much longer to wait, and then mommys bruises can start healin’. And maybe da carpet burn on her arms too. MOL At furst she thought she had dirty elbows. Fankfully she didn’t scrub ’em raw figgerin’ out da truth. MOL Big hugs to ya’ll.

      1. Health care was MUCH better before obama decided to rename HRC’s heath-care fiasco… NOW, I hear the lame duck is putting the people, who designed the obamacare network in charge of VA healthcare….
Guess he is trying to make sure he’s thought of as the worst president.

        1. Mommy’s never had dental care. It’s somethin’ Medicare doesn’t cover. Don’t think they ever have. Dat’s purrobably why you see so many poor folks in da South without teeth. Lots of peeps call them toothless wonders. It’s not very nice, but no money and no coverage is purrobably why.

              1. Hopefully, things will change for the better… seems like it would cost a lot less to maintain health, as much as possible rather than deal with situations after they are totally out of control.

                1. Yeah, our thoughts exactly. But they’re only innerested in dental health fur children to da age of 18. Maybe someday, dat will change, but we won’t be holdin’ our breath till then. MOL

                  1. I’m not holding my breath, either, but that doesn’t stop me from hoping for improvements… and IMHO a good start for that is getting rid of Obamacare – it sounded like a good idea, but like ‘no child left behind’, which seems to have left most kids behind, this is actually as bad – and in many cases worse – than no healthcare.

                    1. Yep, and mommy just got off da fone with a nurse from da DHS dat said she doesn’t think mommy qualifies fur help ’round da house and with errands anymore. Since we can’t find anypawdy to help us, they think mommy be fine. When it rains it pours. MOL

                    2. Only ifin she qualifies fur da advantage purrogram she was just called ’bout. But mommy has food allergies dat they don’t take into account, so most of da time she can’t eat da meals the send. She got food poison from da last one she could eat and hasn’t had one since. Without da purrogram da meals cost $6.95 each. They are 1 meal a day. It’s usually a small outdated frozen 2% milk, oatmeal cookie, and either a spaghetti or similar chefboyrdee microwave cup. Anyways, trust me, mommy’s old hat at lookin’ fur help. When we post there isn’t any or she doesn’t qualify, we’ve been through all da research, applications and anythin’ else she could find. But fanks fur tryin’ to help.

                    3. Dat was nice of ya’. We don’t think they do dat here. Not sure where they get da foods, like we said da milk is usually outdated by a couple months, so we figger it was donated after it’s sell by date and they fureeze it. Mommy’s ‘lergic to onions, broccoli and some other stuffs, so she doesn’t even look at da chefboyrdee pots. A few years ago da company started pureein’ veggies of all sorts and puttin’ it in their sauces, so mommy can’t eat them. ‘Course with her teefy purroblems, even ifin somepawdy donated purroduce, she couldn’t eat a lot of it. Oklahoma’s one of da poorest states in da country, but it doesn’t treat da old and poor and disabled very good. Altho’ nopawdy might, we just don’t live there so can’t say.

                    4. At our local St. Vincent de Paul, gardeners and those who sell at the farmer’s market and/or homeowners with fruit trees, etc. give excess to St. VdP and in turn, they give it to those in need.
We have an overly ambitious star fruit tree, and were thrilled to discover their program. Often, I’ve noticed that the produce is on the border of overripe, but if it was used the day someone got it, or by the next day, it would be fine.

                    5. Maybe dat’s why they don’t do purroduce here, cuz it can’t be frozen like da milk. Mommy members only once gettin’ milk dat was less than 2 months past it’s expo date. 2 to 4 months is common. Da Indians might have somethin’ like dat. We here they get good foods and stuffs in their purrograms.
