Chatting Cats: Tell All Tuesday: World Spa Day…No, Spay Day

Hey everypawdy, it’s me, RaenaBelle. It’s World Spa Day. WooHooooooo  Sissy, does that mean we should get massages and fur treatments and pawdicures?

Raena sits on cat tree with mouth open

What? Me’s purretty sure you’ve got that wrong Raena. (Dezi looks at the online calendar) Yep Raena, it’s not World Spa Day, it’s World Spay Day. Trust me, there’s a big difference…you should know.

Dezi sits pretty profile

Spay Day? Hmmmmpht  Yep, I’s ‘member that. You tricked me back when I’s was just a baby. You meowed all ‘bout mine’s Spa day till I’s couldn’t wait fur it to happen. Kittens Was I’s ever sur-purrised ‘bout what actually happened. Spa day mine’s furry behind.

Mommy A waking Raena after her spay surgeryRaena recovering from her spay surgery. She did purrfectly!!!

(Dezi laughs) Yeah Raena, me bets it was a shock.

I’s didn’t think it was very funny sissy. How would you have felt ifin you were lied too and then laughed at.

Where do you think me got the idea Raena. Me’s sis Lexi did the same thing to me. Me did at least get mommy fur puttin’ me thru all that. Me bit a hole right thru her thumb, nail and all. MOL

Oh No sissy. That was so mean. I’s didn’t do anythin’ like that. I’s luvs mommy way too much to be mean to her. Truth is, that while it might not have been the bestest day we’ve ever had, it was a great day fur our long term health. And the truth is, I’s don’t miss whatever it was they stole that day.

Raena carrying her new nip toyI’s luvs these toys mommy. (Raena was playing a few hours after her spay)

Yeah Raena, me either. As fur bein’ mean to mommy, me didn’t really mean to do it, me was just so out of it that me bit whatever came close. Me felt really bad that me had hurt mommy once me woke up. Anyways, mommy says they stole our ability to have kittens. Kind’a like when they stole mommy’s ability to have non furry kids. Unlike us, mommy had to go thru cancer befur they stole hers. Stealin’ ours early (before first estrus) means our risk of gettin’ ovarian cancer are gone and the risk fur cervical and mammary cancer goes down drastically. Neuterin’ males reduces their risk of testicular and prostate cancer. And we all know the big C (cancer) is somethin’ nopawdy wants.

so we thought a cute baby foto would be nice.

That’s true sissy. Neutering, which can be used to describe both procedures, can also reduce aggression, unwanted behaviors like sprayin’/markin’, fighting over territory and/or mates, our desire to roam and some of the diseases that are transmitted by some of those natural behaviors in unaltered/un-neutered animals, like Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS. I’s really glad we don’t have to worry ‘bout those things, sissy. I’s like bein’ mommy’s baby, the last thing I’s would want is to have to take care of babies. (shakes head) I’s feel sorry fur those kitties who have kittens befur they even got to grow up. I’s can’t ‘magine what they must go thru.

Yeah, and then to lose those babies to diseases, illnesses, accidents, or to even have them taken away. Or to be really old and still havin’ kittens…(thinks of Lexi in her later years and shakes her head) Me’s with you; me much purrfurs bein’ mommy’s baby to havin’ ‘em. But wait, even ifin you adopt an older intact kitty/puppy/adult, it’s not too late to help them avoid further risks. While the risk may go up with each estrus cycle, by spayin’ adult animals you can stop the risk from increasin’ further. Shelters kill so many unwanted animals every day, when one purrcedure could help stop the over pawpulation purroblem.

It’s the most common purrcedure purrfurmed by V-E-Ts and takes a few short minutes to greatly improve your pet’s health. While it can be a little costly at your local V-E-Ts office, there are low cost spay/neuter clinics almost everywhere. We don’t have one in our town, but we don’t have a V-E-T here either. However, there is a clinic once a month down the road a ways. That’s where mommy took sissy and me. She even stayed with us the whole time. I’s gotta tell ya’, wakin’ up to mine’s mommy’s sweet face and yummy smell, was the bestest thing ever.

Me too Raena. Me may have bit mommy, but me was pawfully glad she was there with me when me woke up. And fur all you who think kitty should have a litter of kittens furst, that’s like sayin’ every woman should have a baby. Are you kitten me? We all know there are just some peeps that shouldn’t have kids. Does me need to name a few? Me thought not. Neutering your pets not only gives them a longer more healthy life, it also saves lives but stoppin’ them from breeding and purrducin’ litters of unwanted kitties or puppies.

Yep, and we don’t even wanna hear the old, “I found great homes fur the whole litter”, x’cuse. Sometimes peeps lie and those great homes aren’t always respawnsible or all that great. And did they find great homes fur all the litters their pets had since they purrobably didn’t spay or neuter either? Take respawnsibility fur the life you’ve been entrusted with. Spaying and Neutering is one of the quickest and easiest ways you can help your pet to live a long and healthy life with you. Purrlease, spay, neuter and save lives.

That’s a good one Raena, me really likes that. Spay, Neuter and save lives. C’mon, mommy’s got a lot of things to do, so let’s wrap this up.

I’s right behind ya’ sissy. This is Raena and Dezi signin’ off from the Three Belles Ranch. See ya’ll soon.

  1. Thank you for spreading the word. I am devastated that KaTwo is dying of mammary cancer because her original owner didn’t get her spayed so she wasn’t fixed until she got to the shelter ( age 2 or more). XO
