We will keep this short and sweet and just say dat weez weally ‘cited ‘bout BlogPaws and dat weez most likely will be offline duwin’ dat time cuz there’s no furee wifi in da rooms. It costs $10.00 a day, so weez purrawlly won’t be able to post or visit. Weez’ll be duin’ da bestest we can tween now and then but we also have to get weady, and mommy’s birffday be Wednesday. She sez she be old enuff to know better and dat’s all she be sayin’. MOL

We’ll Be Purrayin’

Meowllo everypawdy weez comin’ to ya’ fwum a flooded Oklahoma. MOL Well nuffin’ worked yesfurday so we never got meez posty out. And let me tell you da night afur…it sounded like da stowm was in da house. Even mommy and sissy was a little fwaid. It had been funderin’ sumfin’ pawful when we finally got a little bweak. Or so we fawt. Mommy had turned da teevee up weally loud hopin’ to drown out da sound of da funder so me kuld come outta hidin’ and eat, and she had gone to da kitchen to wash dishes. She had da water on full blast and da gawbage disposal runnin’ and suddenly she heard a bangin’ and it seemed like da whole house was bein’ shook. Mommy yelled fwum da kitchen weally loud so hers kuld be heard over all da extwa noises, “Just a minute.” See da bangin’ was so loud she fawt sumpawdy was knockin’ on da door.

dw Dezi lays head off top1

So she turned da gawbage disposal and water off and stawted to dwy hers hands when da bangin’ and quakin’ house stawted again. And OMC she learned there wasn’t anypawdy at da door, dat was FUNDER!!! But just in case she went on over to da door and opened it up just in time fur a flash of lightnin’ to light up hers face. It was comin’ wight at her. So she hurriedly closed da door and looked wound fur Lexi and me. We was there, wight behind her, but we was boff weady to run. MOL So wiff all dat goin’ on mommy told me we wuld write meez posty da next mownin’ (yesfurday). And then meownin’ came and mommy kuld barely get wound.

dw Dezi treetop00fr

But she purromised we wuld get me a posty written. After all we had a pawrt 2 to finish up. But there seemed no end in sight to all da funderin’ and lightnin’ and rain. But mommy purromissed and ifin you can get mommy to say “I purromise,” then you can bet it’ll happen lessen God or an act of God purrvents it. So mommy turned on da puter and we stawrted writin’. We don’t have to be connected to write meez posties, fank catness or we kuldn’t have got it dun. But while we was writin’ da stowrms reared their ugly head again. Da power started flickerin’ and so mommy pawlogized and shut it down. Me unnewstood, after all me wanted to hide stead of write and visit. MOL So, we will be postin’ pawrt 2 later but today we have a request posty we wanna write.

See there’s lots of kitties and udder anipals in da blogosphere dat be sick. So many dat me kuldn’t even begin to list ‘em all. So me won’t attempt too. But me will ask dat you purray fur all yous furiends. We recently lost a furiend dat we didn’t even know was sick, so sumtimes yous never know sumpawdy needs da purrayers. But ifin yous keep ‘em in yous purrayers every day it won’t matter. They’ll be covered. Now last night me got a email fwum meez handsum mancat Andy. Hims furmily is weally havin’ a ruff time wight now. Hims sisfur Cali had been actin’ a little diffewent; like she was in pain. Usin’ da floor stead of da pawdee box. So off to da VET they went. It scared Andy so much dat hims was hidin’ out UTB (unner da bed). See us kitties still have a little of da wild in us and when one of us is sick, we twy to distance ourselves fwum them. We may be purredators but we can also become purrey, and sick means weak to a kitty. Mommy sez she’s seen this happen way too many times. And of course in a house wiff more than 1 kitty when 1 goes sumwhere (specially da VET) and comes home, they don’t smell like us anymore and it sumtimes scares us. So Andy wanted no pawrt of hims sisfur yesfurday. But we also know dat da sick kitty only wants to be wiff his/her furmily and be luvved.

Meez handsum Andy
Meez handsum Andy

So anyways, to da VET Cali went. A few tests later and da bad news came. She has bone cancer in hers leg. On a hooman it wuld be da calf area, but weez kitties not have calves, so it’s just hers leg. Now Cali’s no yung kitty (12 years) so there be complications and only a few options fur tweatment. Da VET sent them home wiff 2 weeks worff of steroids to twy and ease hers pain. And told there’s 3 options fur tweatment. Da furst bein’ surgery to amputate da offendin’ limb. Again, she’s not a yung healffy kitty so this option kuld be very risky. Lots of tests wuld need to be purrfurmed to make sure she’s even a candidate fur goin’ unner da knife. Da second option is to twy and make hers comfy till da cancer eats her up and she goes to heaven. And da furd is to help her go on to heaven now. We don’t fink those awe very good choices, but dat’s what there is. So, ifin yous all wuldn’t mind sendin’ up a few extwa purrayers fur sweet Cali and Andy’s furmily we wuld purreciate it and we fur sure know they wuld too. Meez Andy not have a bloggy, but hims duz read mine. So ifin yous inclined to leave a good word or fawt, meez certain hims will see it and da furmily will be comfurted.

What’s In That Ham Baby Food

Hey y’all Lexi here again today. I really purreciate all your support an purrayers. This is the last of my Vet day posts. For the last three days we’ve been covering my latest appointment. We posted the link to my lab work Thursday and told ‘bout what happened at da VET; and yesfurday we told ‘bout what mommy and me did after we left da VET. We’ve been asked a lot of questions about just what is my diagnosis and what are we doin’ about it. So today we’re gonna cover all that. You’ve probably noticed the human speak, well we wanna make sure everyone can understand what we tell ya’ ‘bout my medicines and condition. So first, I do have kidney disease. My thyroid is okay and there’s no sugar in my urine, and the numbers from my tests confirm kidney disease. Although based on my latest lab work their does seem to be a small question as to whether it’s chronic or acute. What’s the difference you ask? There’s a few, but the most important difference is that acute can be cured and chronic can only be managed.

 0dw Lexi getting luv

Now as most of you know the day doc diagnosed me he sold us a neutraceutical called Azodyl. It was expensive and mommy worried that she wouldn’t be able to afford it for long. Fanks to our wonderful furiends and awnties we were able to buy it for a few months. And then the day came that mommy had feared. We were out and she had no money to buy anymore. Of course as soon as we had gotten the news mommy started researching everything she could find and joined a very knowledgeable support group. During mommy’s research she had read about Astro’s products. So she contacted the creator, an M.D. and asked all kinds of questions. Still a little leary she staerted talking to the support group about them, and when we couldn’t afford my Azodyl mommy decided it was better to treat me with something than nothing. So she ordered the Astro’s Protein Powder because I lost so much weight, and Atro’s Nitrogen-Creatinine Scrub which takes the place of Azodyl. By this time some of our furiends had sent green papers and mommy could afford to buy them. As I said yesfurday most CRF diets are low in protein and phosphorous. And that’s great if you’re a doggy who could survive as a vegetarian. But when you’re a kitty what be an obligate carnivore, low protein isn’t the best idea. But as with most feline medicine the treatments for cats are based on those for dogs.

dw1537
This be da protein powder and da scrub.

As cats, we need the protein to stay healthy and maintain muscle mass and weight. And since CKD can cause us to lose weight we sure don’t need to cut back on anything positive. Recent studies have proved CKD kitties do better on a high quality protein and low phosphorous diet. But proteins make our liver work harder and that’s harder on our kidneys. So it’s almost a lose lose. But in comes the Astro’s Protein Powder. It’s designed to help animals gain and maintain lean muscle mass and promote cellular regeneration. It’s a white fish derived, amino acid concentrate that’s pre-digested so that it’s easily absorbed by the gut. Because it’s concentrated and high quality very little waste product is created, therefore the kidneys have less toxins to filter out. In other words, it’s easier on the kidneys. That’s great news for CKD and many other ailments as well. Although this product was created with CRF in mind, it can be given to any animal who needs to gain weight and/or maintain muscle mass. It costs $32.95 for a 120gm jar. Or a little over $10.00 a month because 1 jar lasts about 3 months.

 dw1540

Now to talk about the replacement product for the Azodyl, the Astro’s Nitrogen Creatinine Scrub. It’s designed to use the digestive tract to trap and excrete metabolic toxins, transforming it into a rudimentary third kidney. And unlike the Azodyl, it doesn’’t have to be refrigerated and can be given in food. Or in my case the tablespoon of ham baby food I get each meal. It can be made even more effective by adding it to yogurt, but it’s not necessary. And it costs $22.95 for a 120gm jar (ie: about 2-3 months supply). Mommy prayed it would work because $23.00 for 2-3 months as opposed to $80.00 a month is a huge difference. And we know you all get tired of helping us and we hate to be a burden on anyone. But purrhaps helping with a smaller amount might be less burdensome.

 dw1538

Now I’m also taking Renavast. That was something that mommy had come across in her research but was also told about by Brian and Cheri. It’s more amino acids and peptides, just different ones, and helps too maintain normal kidney function in CRF cats and dogs. All of these products by the way have no reported side effects as they are all natural and can be used for both cats and dogs. Consult your VET if you’re a bunny, piggy, etc. I’m also taking vitamin B-12 supplements for overall health. And the Regeneril that Truffles and Ms. Melissa shared with me. It’s purpose is to increase appetite and energy and help with joint pain. The Renavast is $27.00 for a 30 day supply, the B-12 is $10.00 for about a 6 month supply and I’m taking Organic Slippery Elm Bark at $8.00 for about a 6 month supply for the upset tummies and acid reduction. Mommy also ordered for $20.00 some D-mannose to give to me and even Dezi in the event of a urinary tract infection caused by e-coli. Again since this is all natural it can be given to any animal even as a preventative. What all this means as far as money goes is that for less than the price of the Azodyl we can buy all the medicines I need. Because even if I was still taking the Azodyl, I would still need everything other than the Astro’s Scrub.

As always if you have any questions please ask and if we can answer them we will. As for those of you who think our VETs are cheaper, they most probably are cheaper than what you’re paying, but remember, wages are less here too, so for us; especially mommy who be on Social Security, our VETs charge a lot. Our $200.00 bill is like your $2000.00 bill. Altho’ we just don’t understand why it is that VETs think they need to charge so much. Mommy had checked da wedder and saw dat we waz in fur flash floods and more tornadoes but not till da night time. So mommy got me in da stroller and got minez medz toogedder and we waz off. Leazt we fawt we waz. We turned outta our partmentz and ontoo da road only to be met wiff signs and blocks dat told mommy too be carefool cuz of floodin’. And dat da street was closed. So we had too tern rownd and much too mommyz chagrin da street waz closed dat way too. Fankfooly da road blocks was placed at da entrance of da drive at da hospital so mommy went round ‘em. There went our attempt to make it on time. Yep we wuz late agin’. Mommy and I sung songs all da way there. I’z getting’ purretty savvy too this “goin’ to da VET” ride and after da last fiasco I’z not in any hurry too repeat dat scenario so I’z waz a bit nervous. But we arrived and I’z recognized it waz Doc C’z office and not da torture chamber.

 dw Lexi1513

We went in and course da furst fing they wandid too doo waz weigh me in. Youz wood fink I’z sum purrize fighter or sumfin’ da way theze peepz are ’bout dat weighin’ stuff. I’z lost more weight. Now afur youz go and git all beside youz self mommy sez datz not real surprizin’ sinz mozt of da mumff I’z didunt eat much. Itz not till da lazt week or so dat I’z bin eatin’ real good. So eeben doe mommy wazunt happy bout da 1/8ff of a pound I’z had lozt, she wazunt shocked and sed it waz okay, I’z wood be puttin’ it back on soon. (weez’ll tell ya’ why and ‘bout minez medsinz in anudder pozty. So I’z all weighed in and they took us too a room too wait fur doc. A kupple minitz passed and doc poked hiz head in and azked how mommy waz and ibin she wandid sumfin’ too drink cuz it waz gunna be a little bit afur himz gawdid too us. A cup of water fur me and a coffee fur mommy and we settled in fur da wait. We didunt wait too long and he came bustlin’ fru da door azkin’ what mommy wandid too doo tooday. Funny how different fings are now dat himz takin’ mommy seriouzly cuz herz wendid elzwhere when he woodunt coopurrate and doo da teztz mommy wandid da furzt time round.

 dw Lexi1511

Mommy showed himz all minez medsinz, cuz eeben doe himz signed off, he didunt know anyfing bout ‘em. Mommy had also took copiez of da explanations of them fur himz too keep and a flyer fur Tanya’s CRF website. And then she told him she wandid a T4 tezt and sinz dat meant takin’ blood then weez didunt wanna waste it cuz we wazunt dooin’ it agin fur a while; and weez wandid a full panel incloodin’ da chem panel. Himz didunt bat a eye and sed okay. And then himz azked ibin mommy wandid too doo a urinalysis, and she sed, yes, while weez dooin’ letz doo. So himz left da room too git da fur stealer and an assiztant too help. Mommy azked fur a blood purresure but da machine waz broke and da repairman hadunt come too fix it yet so no takin’ of minez blood pressure waz dun. Himz plugged in da fur stealer and then shaved up minez neck. And right here afur BlogPawz too. Kin youz believe it? I’z gunna habz too go too BlogPawz neck neckid. Hmmmmpht Himz stole minez blood and then stabbed me in da kidneyz too steal sum peepee fur teztin’ too. Fank catnezz himz much better than da torturerz frum lazt time. Himz hit da mark da furzt time on boff stealz, and then took them too da back fur teztin’. I’z waz da purrfect angel mommy sed. I’z didunt fight or growl or hiss or nuffin’. I’z kinda figger da nicer I’z am da quicker weez’ll be dun.

 dw Lexi fur stole

A few minitz later little helper girly azked ibin we kuld wait in da waitin’ room fur da teztz too finish and let anudder patient habz our room. I’z waz all fur dat, cuz I’z didunt want ‘em stealin’ anyfin’ elze. So weez went round fru da lab back out too da waitin’ room. While waitin’ a poor little doggy came in dat had taken on a big doggy so I’z tried too kumfurt him a bit. But alll himz wandid too doo waz whine and scream. No dignity let me tell ya’, dat doggy had no dignity. No self respektin’ cat wood ebber cry out like dat fur eberpawdy too hear. Bout a half hour later doc came out wiff paperz and went over them wiff mommy. Sum of minez nummerz surprized him, but minez T4 waz good. So I’z not have any thyroid purrawlemz. Dat meanz az long az I’z will eat, I’z shuld put da weight back on. Dat made mommy happy fur sure. He told mommy he hadunt had a chanz too purrocess da resultz so himz wood call us later abter ebberpawdy left fur da day too discuss ‘em. Well weez needed too go too wally world and git me sum Gerber ham and ham gravy baby food fur minez medsinz so mommy told him to call da next day and we waz off. Oh yeah I’z furgot, mommy had too pay afur we kuld leave, so $211.05 green paperz later and we waz off. I’z gunna stop fur today and weez’ll habz a part 2 fur this pozty next. Ibin youz can unnerstand and wanna read minez resultz, youz can doo dat here. Habz a pawsum day and…
