Meowllo evewypawdy here we awe wiff anudder Blest Sunday posty. You might find this a bit odd, but today weez gunna focus on a purroduct we got fwum Chewy this mumff to weview. Weez gunna tell ya’ why we fink this mumffs offewin’ is a blessin’. As you know weez not been weviewin’ fur Chewy long, but weez been ordewin’ fwum them since purretty much da beginnin’ of da company. So we wuz fwilled when they chose us too weview fur ‘em. And so faw weez at least liked most of da purroducts weez twied. There’s been a foo ifin yous member dat one or da udder of us wuzn’t cwazy ‘bout, but hey yous can’t expect evewy cat to like evewyfin’, so dat’s bound to happen evewy once in a while. Mommy sez it’s rare to evew find a purroduct dat all cats like, and in ow house we can’t member da last purroduct dat weez boff went high flyin’ cwazy over sides nip. Till this mumff.

We got ow package fwum chewy.com and at da time we wuz boff nappin’, so mommy set iit down and went back to whatevew her wuz duin’. A foo hours passed and sis Lexi came up fwunt to let mommy know she wanted a tweat or sumfin’. Since she lost so much weight weez been getting’ a foo extwa tweats off and on fwu out da day, and so she wuz wantin’ sum. Mommy pulled out da Chewy.com package and opened it up and took out a bag of tweats. Well soon as me heard dat wumblin’ oof da package me wuz off da top of da cat twee and wight beside sissy. Mommy took a kupple fotos and then opened one of da packages. Oh da smell of divine goodness. Me stawted meowin’ and sissy stawted gwabbin’ at da package. Mommy laffed and sissy stawted meowin’. Mommy wuz takin’ faw too long. Finally she got da package of tweats open and poured a foo in hers hands and…Wow wuz they evew good. What were they you ask? Well let me just tell ya’. Da name of this pawsum goodness is Canidae Grain Free Pure taste wiff fwesh chicken.

Mommy kuldn’t believe hers eyes. We wuz boff scawffin’ ‘em down as quick as mommy kulld pour ‘em out. Actually quicker. They be little heart shaped crunchy kiblets. Now member sissy dusn’t have many teefies, but…

Yes sissy you did at dat. And so did me. Yous wight they awe delishus. Mommy’s even been puttin’ sum in sis Lexi’s noms to encourage her to eat mowe at meal times. Amazingly enuff weez boff give ‘em 4 paws up. So what do they have in ‘em and is it enuff fur mommy to like ‘em too? Ingredients awe: chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, peas, potatoes, chicken fat, lamb meal, natural flavor, menhaden fish meal and those mixed tocopherals. And Canidae’s development center and manufacturin’ facility be in Brownwood Texas, wight here in da USA and one state ovew fwum us. All in all mommy’s purretty happy wiff ‘em too. Indoors Or Out? The I’s Have It!

Meowllo evewypawdy, it’s finally Furiday. We be weally happy it’s da weekend. It’s been a long and busy week so weez lookin’ furward to sum west time this weekend. As you wecall it wuz mommy’s doctow pointment week and then cleanin’ day to get weady fur inspections. Then there wuz moppin’ after inspections cuz da exterminator came too. And then yesfurday da lawn cwu wuz here fur their furst visit of da season. So mommy sez she’s just kinda wunnin’ on autopilot. Now most of ya’ know dat meez not to fond of da lawn cwu and me wuns and hides. Mommy’s twied just ‘bout evewyfin’ to help me not be so skeered. Cuz it’s not just da lawn cwu, it’s also stowms and fireworks. Mommy’s been wantin’ to twy thise flower essences, they just haven’t been in da budget. So she finally found a cheap knock off and bought it. We actually got it at da end of last mumff. So when she saw da lawn cwu twuck today she fawt it wuz da purrfect oppurrtunity to give it a twy.

What’cha got there mommy?

Me wuz hangin’ out on da top of da cat twee when mommy bwought over this bottle and a dwopper full of sumfin’. She stuck it up there and sed, “Open wide Dezi.” Yeah wight. Have you ever seen a cat just “open wide” wiffout sniffin’ whatevew be in their face furst? Me will tell ya’, No you haven’t, and neevew did me. Of course me did what any self wespectin’ kitty wuld do and stawted sniffin’. Me wusn’t so sure ‘bout dat dwopper full of whatevew. So no, me didn’t stick meez tung out and say ahhhh. So mommy put a foo dwops on meez paw furs and a little on meez side. Yep, yous guessed it, me stawted lickin’. and then da lawn cwu guys wuz on ow porch and me stawted wunnin’. Me finally weappeared 5 hours later and 20 minutes after da lawn cwu left. So weez guessin’ eevew da cheap knock off dusn’t work, or me didn’t get enuff of it to weally test it out. So guess what mommy will be duin’ da next time da lawn cwu shows up? weez’ll let ya’ know how it turns out. MOL

Me dusn’t know ’bout dat mommy. Why dusn’t sis Lexi twy it furst?

Now as you all know me joined up wiff da bloggn’ A to Z challenge this mumff and today’s letter is I. Me fawt dat wuz kinda a twicky one, but one word kep comin’ to meez mind and so me told mommy to look it up. So she typed in da search baw, Injuries in indoor only cats. As most of you know we be indoor only cats. Mommy has always believed it wuz faw safer fur us. Da only time we ever go outside is wiff mommy in ow stwoller, and usually wiff a hawness and leash just in case. Da only exception to this is when weez stwollin’ wound ow pawtment complex and fur occasional VET visits. We don’t always have to wear a hawness and leash duwin’ those times. Ow stwoller is quite secure, but mommy dusn’t like to take chances. And there’s a clip in da stwoller to attach da leash to, so it shuld be assumed dat even da manufacturers of stwollers feel dat there is a need fur additional safety measures.

We know a lot of you let your kitties go outside unsupervised and/or off leash. We fink da only kitty what belongs outside wiffout supervision is a Feral. And we gotta tell ya’ weez not weal cwazy ‘bout dat, but we know there’s a weason they be called Feral. We weally wanna talk ‘bout da dangers to us kitties out in this big old world. There awe diseases yous kitty can get/develop if exposed to da gweat outdoors. And sum of these be fatal. Among those awe: FeLV, FIV, FIP and URI’s. We can also get fleas, ticks, ear mites, ringworm and intestinal worms. And while these may not be fatal, they awe certainly not pleasant fur us or you. And then there be fings like cars, dogs, wild animals, poisons, and old fashioned animal cwuelty. There awe a lot of not so nice peeps out there hoo abuse kitties fur amusement, and just plain meanness.

And da twuff is dat weez been so domesticated dat weez not weally need to go outside. We do need a cat furiendly home wiff sumfin to scwatch on and lay on and play wiff. A pawdee box, high quality meaty noms and furesh water. You can even gwo us sum cool gwass to eat when ow tummies be upset. And you know weez not have much munny but even wiff a limited income mommy wuz able to cweate a funtastic kitty abode. Gwanted weez have a lot of new pawsum cat furniture and toys fanks to ow furiends here and on Facebook. But all yous kitty weally needs is to be kep safe and luvved. So weez hope yous give these fings a fawt da next time yous open da door fur kitty to go outside. Weez lost so many furiends to fings dat kulda been purrvented ifin only they had stayed inside da house. And weez just don’t wanna lose any mowe. Hairballs, All You Need To Know…

Meowllo evewypawdy, hope you awe havin’ da bestest of days. It’s H day here in da bloggin’ A to Z challenge, and well mommy is tired cuz hers just completely went blank. Did she furget ow name?  One of ow new favowit tweats? Or even one of da fings she weally hates…HAIRBALLS. Yep today weez gunna talk ‘bout hairballs. Now most of us wound here laff ‘bout ‘em and scheme ‘bout where to place them and ow hoomans do evewyfin’ in their power to stop ‘em, but awe they just a fact of life fur a cat? And is it healffy fur us to have them? And just why is it dat sum cats seem to have mowe of a purrawllem wiff ‘’em than udders? And…well let me quit askin’ questions and just get on wiff it and tell ya’ mowe ‘bout hairballs than you evew wanted to know.

APRIL-CALENDAR [2015]

Guess da first thing me should tell ya’ is why we kitties get hairballs in the furst place. Well you know all that groomin’ we do? Yep that’s where they come from. As anybody whose ever been licked by a kitty knows, we have a barbed like tongue and things like fur just kinda stick to it and then we swallow it. That’s why it’s not safe for us too play with things like string and threads and the like. We often can’t actually spit these things out and so down the hatch as they say, they go. As for the fur once swallowed it’s gotta come out, and there’s only 2 ways that’s gonna happen. For the purrpusses of this posty we will talk ‘but those hairballs that come back up thru the mouth.

Now here is where mommy kinda disagrees with the current thought processes of most. Most articles and Vets say that the long haired breeds tend to have more hairballs than the shorter haired kitties. Mommy sez pishaw to this. She’s had plenty of long haired cats and only a couple of short haired cats so maybe she might just know a thing or two about this subject. See, sis Lexi has far more hairballs than any long haired kitty mommy has ever had, me included. If we was to give you a ratio figure, sis Lexi would throw up a hairball 9 more times out of 10 than me would. Now we was actually asked a question once ‘bout these here hairballs. One of our dear Facebook friends started noticing her 2 year old cat convulsing and then vomiting out a mess and cryin’ ‘bout it. Mommy figured out he was having hairballs and told her what to do and voila, everything was under control again. She then told mommy he hadn’t ever done that before, so why was it now happening? Well it’s true, kittens don’t have hairballs. But once we get older and become great fur stylists, that’s when the fun begins. And by the way, our friend…he was a short haired tabby too.

Course callin’ it fun is a bit of a stretch, cuz it for sure ain’t no fun for us. We retch and sometimes meow some of the most pawful meows in our repertoire and gag and then finally…out comes the glob. Now most of these hairballs aren’t little balls at all, they’re more tube like, and that’s because they’ve got to pass thru’ the narrow esophagus in our throats. And altho’ these Hairballs are purrfectly normal they can also be dangerous. Dangerous you say, why is that? Well if your kitty is throwin’ up a hairball once or twice a week (in shedding season) most likely things are fine. But, if you notice your kitty retching and coughing and maybe crying and yet no hairball shows up; call your VET immediately!! It is possible that a hairball can become lodged in the esophagus, intestinal tract, or stomach. And if this happens this is a life or death emergency.

Symptoms to look for in a cat with an obstruction are:

  • Ongoing vomiting, retching, gagging or hacking without producing a hairball,  

  • Lethargy,  

  • Lack of appetite, 

  • Constipation,  

  • Diarrhea,  

If you observe any of those symptoms please call your vet immediately. Surgery may be needed to remove the offending hairball.

Hairballs are a natural part of your kitties life so there’s no cure for them. However there are ways to help minimize the amount of hairballs your cat has. The furst is Grooming. Most cats love to be groomed. Altho’ not all, and we have heard many of our long haired friends really put up a fight at grooming time. Mommy sez it’s never too late to teach a cat anything, but it is always easier to train them when they’re young. So don’t give up. And these days there are lots of “self groomers” on the market that your cat might enjoy. But Grooming serves a few purrpusses, it allows you to bond with your cat while getting rid of the loose fur that would either end up on your furniture as fur shed, or any place else as a slimy hairball. Be sure too use the appropriate grooming tool on your cat. There are a ton of them on the market, but you don’t want to use the wrong one. Most cats have a double coat, but there are those with only single coats and the “hairless” breeds. We won’t go into all the tools today because today is hairball day, but if you’re interested in learning about the differences in grooming tools an what’s right for who, let us know in the comments and we will cover that in a future post.

Another way to cut back on hairballs is a hairball formula food, treats, or treatment (malty as we call it). Again there are a number of these on the market. As for treatments, you can also use some of the common things around your house. A little pat of butter, olive oil, or vegetable/canola/corn oil can also be safely used to get the hairball moving in the right direction, and maybe save you from stepping into a wet slimy mess with your bare feet in the middle of the night. MOL Well, hope we’ve helped you a little in further understanding the cat’s Hairball. MOL
