And while sum of yous may spit, hiss, gwowl, hide, fight, bite, bawk, snowt, skweel, and whatevew els when is time tu go tu da V-E-T, meez tweats it like any uddew adventuwe. Meez knows, sum of yous feel meez betwayed yous, but weally it can be a good fing. Now da email didn’t say zackly what meez wus ‘posed tu talk ’bout, so dis is gunna be meez take on yeawly check ups. And fuw all meez furiends dats not kittys, meez not leavin’ yous out, but fuw da sake of time and space yous can substitute yous species in da spots whewe meez puts kitty/cat.
Fiwst let meez say dat when yous bwing a new kitty/cat intu yous home, ‘specially ifin yous alweady hav a kitty/cat (s) at home da fiwst place yous shuld take dem is tu da VET. Yous wanna purrtect evewpawdy and make suwe evewpawdy’s healffy. Find a VET yous like and dat kitty likes. Hopefully dey will be one in da same, and da office staff and techs will be good tu. Is good ifin yous can, tu make an appointment tu get tu know da VET and maybe touw his/her office afuw yous der on sum kind of emewgency. And speakin’ ’bout emewgencies, be suwe tu find out what da emewgency pawlicy is. Ifin yous wanna see yous VET in those times and him/hers don’t take calls aftew houws den yous need tu find anuddew VET or get tu know da emewgency clinic. Der awe lots of uddew fings tu considew when choosin’ da wight VET like du yous want a holistic appwoach, cat only (ifin ders any in yous awea), a full sewvice hospital, etc. but meez finks da most impawtant fing is: dus yous kitty like dem and dus da VET enjoy der job and like yous kitty.

Yous VET will hav opinions ’bout what vaccinations would be best fuw yous kitty based on what yous tell him/her ’bout kittys lifestyle. An indoow only kitty isn’t gunna be in as gweat a wisk as an outdoow kitty. So da indoow kitty may not need cewtain vaccinations. But yous and da #VET can discuss dis and make da wight decision fuw yous companion. And membew, yous hav a say so and an opinion. Ifin yous don’t know/unnewstand why yous VET is weccomendin’ sumfin’, ASK!! Now wees liv in one of da many States dat wequiwes da Rabies vaccination and it must be given by a licensed VET. Check wiff yous VET and da CDC tu see ifin yous State is on da list. Mommy finks one of da mostest impawtant questions is what kind of vaccinations awe bein’ givin’; live, modified, live, etc..
Uddew den vaccinations da yeawly check up is a time fuw yous VET tu giv yous kitty a good once ovew. Dis check kuld help tu catch diseases, illnesses or uddew issues eawly on. And evewpawdy knows dat when yous catch sumfin’ eawly yous stand a bettew chance of a cuwe or at least longew good quality of life. Purrventativ tests and tweatments can sumtimes be da gweatest gift yous can giv tu yous kitty. And ifin yous don’t unnewstand sumfin, ASK!!! Yous VET (ifin yous chose well) will be happy tu ‘splain fings tu yous and help yous unnewstand. Yous VET will be glad tu hav yous pawticipation in da well bein’ of yous kitty. And dey will be able tu go ovew options wiff yous and help yous decide on da bestest couwse of tweatment fuw yous and yous kitty.
Offen yous VET offews uddew sewvices as well. Don’t fuwget ’bout da flea tweatments and heawtworm tweatments, all pawt of purrventative medicine. It’s much easiew tu purrvent a disease den tu cuwe it. It’s also less stwessful on kitty. And maybe yous VET offews fings like gwoomin’ or deys hav twainin’ classes, or low cost sewvices. Welly, get tu know yous VET and makke yous yeawly check up a fun adventuwe and not da “dweaded visit”. Dezi, we thoroughly enjoyed your talk about the vet. I hate to say this but you are right. Unfortunately, we need to see the vet at least once a year for checkups and our preventative shots. Now Kali goes to the vet a lot more than I do so she is more accustom to the vet. She is very nice but I still don’t want to be there. I will try to be quieter the next time we go. Thanks again Dezi. thanks for such an important post, Dezi. The yearly check up is essential to check our weight and to make sure that all systems go. Even the vaccinations and the treatments are important (even when I hate that they torture me with a needle), is better to be safe than sorry. We always hope once a year will be enough when we get our booster injections at the vets and rarely .need to go back. We are lucky that all the vets at our practice are ladies as we aren’t used to lots of men and Hannah in particular doesn’t like them at all. It must be something in her early days (they are both rescues).

Very informative sweetie. I have gone to the vet a few times in my short life and they weren’t bad. Only my spay when I got left alone. Mom said she agrees on finding a good vet. She dropped a vet once because Jasper wasn’t feeling well and the vet said if we come sit in the office and wait they MIGHT have an opening between patients plus Mom would have to pay an extra fee for a last minute visit. IF they even got to see the vet. That was Mom’s roommate’s vet. The practice had changed hands and doctors. So Mom called up her old vet and they took him right away. Never had problems with them. Much of veterinary care is ’emergency’ so it upset Mom with their approach on it. That was the second time they did something like that. The fiest was Mom’s roommate’s old dog. It was her time and she was in pain. They called them and they said they couldn’t see her! A dying dog in pain! They forced the issue and got her in but Mom said No More after the Jasper incident. Plus ALWAYS know about the emergency clinic for animals I couldn’t agree more!

Yep Winter wees hav a lot of VETs hewe dat awe just ’bout da munny tu and wees had a foo wun ins wiff dem fwum time tu time, but wees got a good one now. Wees glad yous got a good one tu. 🙂 Meez sowwy yous mommy had purrawlems, but meez glad all wowked out. Is a shame when VETs act like dat. And sumtimes da staff is bad. Wees had a VET once dat wus wunnewful but da staff wus bullys. 😦 So wees left and nevew went back. Wees wish all VETs and der staff wus in it fuw da animals.

A very good post Dezi…Forrest got his letter for his yearly check up this week..before we moved here (3hrs away from our last home) I rang all vets in the area..i went for the vets that had excellent hours ..emergency facilities..a lot of vets and tech nurses.modern attitudes to holistic treatments and also would treat livestock as we have pet sheep..clearly they were the right vets as they spoke to me for a long time on the phone so showed me they wee great for info! they do have grooming,training,behaviour specialists and are always happy to inform you of options,costs, and outcomes…within the first week of moving we had been there with Forrest who had renal issues which appeared juts before us moving and Dinnermintz who developed severe bleeding when she went for a wee wee..they were fantastic as they had all the pets details before we moved and our old vet a great vet also had sent them all the histories via computer. We see Dr Rayya and her online blog and Facebook page are wonderful and hugely popular! amazing how many overseas blog friends are astounded she is our vet! Our old vet was so wonderful and when we left we gave him a fobwatch with our gratitude expressed in engraving in the back..we love our vets and always rely on them.Hope your vet visit is all paws up 🙂 hugs Fozziemum xxx <3<3

When wees met Dr. C meez wus sick, but hims took da time tu show us wound and splain evewfin’ tu mommy and den hims actually tweated meez fuw da fwee. Now wees pay hims, but da fiwst time wus special, And hims wus in a huwwy tu go when wees got der. Hims didn’t wush us or nuffin’. Paws up fuw da gweat VETS. 🙂 And meez suwe hopes evewpawdy at yous place is duin’ good now. 🙂

Dr C sounds like a great vet Dezi:) and yes all are well..Dinnermintz is now on no dry kibble at all..not even the special vet one as she bleeds..Forrest is on mds and we monitor his renal function regularly and he survived a snake bite which makes him one lucky pooch! that was scary..Eastern Brown snake is the second deadliest land snake in the world..so with his good health checks being done it shows top condition makes a difference! You’re right Dezi….it may not always be a PLEASANT experience going to the vet but it’s a necessary one to keep us healthy and in good shape so we can be around for a long time to come. If we DO have a medical issue, that vet purrrson can give us medicine to take care of it and help our humans understand what’s wrong with us so we’re all on the same page. I may not like visiting him once a year but I know I NEED to!!! Sending good health vibes from me to you, Lexi and your Mom……..
