And while sum of yous may spit, hiss, gwowl, hide, fight, bite, bawk, snowt, skweel, and whatevew els when is time tu go tu da V-E-T, meez tweats it like any uddew adventuwe. Meez knows, sum of yous feel meez betwayed yous, but weally it can be a good fing. Now da email didn’t say zackly what meez wus ‘posed tu talk ’bout, so dis is gunna be meez take on yeawly check ups. And fuw all meez furiends dats not kittys, meez not leavin’ yous out, but fuw da sake of time and space yous can substitute yous species in da spots whewe meez puts kitty/cat.
Fiwst let meez say dat when yous bwing a new kitty/cat intu yous home, ‘specially ifin yous alweady hav a kitty/cat (s) at home da fiwst place yous shuld take dem is tu da VET. Yous wanna purrtect evewpawdy and make suwe evewpawdy’s healffy. Find a VET yous like and dat kitty likes. Hopefully dey will be one in da same, and da office staff and techs will be good tu. Is good ifin yous can, tu make an appointment tu get tu know da VET and maybe touw his/her office afuw yous der on sum kind of emewgency. And speakin’ ’bout emewgencies, be suwe tu find out what da emewgency pawlicy is. Ifin yous wanna see yous VET in those times and him/hers don’t take calls aftew houws den yous need tu find anuddew VET or get tu know da emewgency clinic. Der awe lots of uddew fings tu considew when choosin’ da wight VET like du yous want a holistic appwoach, cat only (ifin ders any in yous awea), a full sewvice hospital, etc. but meez finks da most impawtant fing is: dus yous kitty like dem and dus da VET enjoy der job and like yous kitty.

Yous VET will hav opinions ’bout what vaccinations would be best fuw yous kitty based on what yous tell him/her ’bout kittys lifestyle. An indoow only kitty isn’t gunna be in as gweat a wisk as an outdoow kitty. So da indoow kitty may not need cewtain vaccinations. But yous and da #VET can discuss dis and make da wight decision fuw yous companion. And membew, yous hav a say so and an opinion. Ifin yous don’t know/unnewstand why yous VET is weccomendin’ sumfin’, ASK!! Now wees liv in one of da many States dat wequiwes da Rabies vaccination and it must be given by a licensed VET. Check wiff yous VET and da CDC tu see ifin yous State is on da list. Mommy finks one of da mostest impawtant questions is what kind of vaccinations awe bein’ givin’; live, modified, live, etc..
Uddew den vaccinations da yeawly check up is a time fuw yous VET tu giv yous kitty a good once ovew. Dis check kuld help tu catch diseases, illnesses or uddew issues eawly on. And evewpawdy knows dat when yous catch sumfin’ eawly yous stand a bettew chance of a cuwe or at least longew good quality of life. Purrventativ tests and tweatments can sumtimes be da gweatest gift yous can giv tu yous kitty. And ifin yous don’t unnewstand sumfin, ASK!!! Yous VET (ifin yous chose well) will be happy tu ‘splain fings tu yous and help yous unnewstand. Yous VET will be glad tu hav yous pawticipation in da well bein’ of yous kitty. And dey will be able tu go ovew options wiff yous and help yous decide on da bestest couwse of tweatment fuw yous and yous kitty.
Offen yous VET offews uddew sewvices as well. Don’t fuwget ’bout da flea tweatments and heawtworm tweatments, all pawt of purrventative medicine. It’s much easiew tu purrvent a disease den tu cuwe it. It’s also less stwessful on kitty. And maybe yous VET offews fings like gwoomin’ or deys hav twainin’ classes, or low cost sewvices. Welly, get tu know yous VET and makke yous yeawly check up a fun adventuwe and not da “dweaded visit”. Ya gave pawsum infermashun!! Mum haz bin goin to Dr Dave since she moved back here 18 yearz ago…me Aunti Mingflower da kitteh befur me adored Dr Dave n wuud lay in his armz…she trusted him 155 pur cent n Mingflower did not mind car ridez…she lubbed to travel.
Me iz not quite like Mingflower; oh who me kiddin?? me iz NUFFIN like her…me waz a hissy spittin kitteh when me ferst had to go to see Dr Dave, but he helped me so much wif me bad teefiez n made me bettur many yeerz ago…he n Dr Deb cured da Chronick Cystitis n we waz like “WOOHOO!!!” Den last July me got bery bery sick n me haz struggled wif IBD (Bowel Disease) n Pancreatitis eber since. Dr Dave haz werked long n hard to keep me here n he iz da Canadian “Jamez Herriot” of Vetz!!!!

Preventative medicine is so important. People think that a “Free dog” or “free kitten” is actually free, but factoring in the cost of proper veterinarian care is important, and goes a long way toward long-term wellness so you don’t have more urgent vet visits later.

What a good post my furend. Having a good vet is the most impawtent thing for a cat next to getting their forever home. I am so very lucky that Dad puts a lot of thought into our health and will go past what a lot of Peeps do in keeping us feeling great. Dad has been going to this vet for over 40 years. I think back then he did pet brontosaurous and all. Meow.
So this vet came to work for the original vet when he got out of school and then bought the business when the older vet retired. It is a full service vet with surgery and some emergency treatment available. The thing that Dad says is most impawtent is that the staff LISTEN. They hear what concerns you have and will suggest treatment that is inline with your beliefs. They also have a very reasonable fee structure even though we live in an upper middle class community. We also get a bit extra off since I have 6 brofurs and Dads sister, who is into doggie rescue has another 6 puppies. We do a lot of business and love the personal service.
Brofur Buddy Budd was just treated for a poopy problem and they worked with Dad to find the medicine that he could stick in a bit of ham. Buddy is now happy and healthy.

Meez so glad dat yous hav such a Pawsum VET. Wees get a little discount on account of da fact dat wees Service Cats. And ow VET wespects hims clients boff hooman and animal. Hims sez a healffy pet is da bestest pet but dat means dat hims dusn’t see dem but ’bout once a yeaw so hims welies on da ownews tu help hims by bein’ educated and givin’ hims good infuwmaton. Wees not been wiff hims neawly as long as yous daddy’s been wiff yous, but wees suwe hope tu be. and meez so glad dat Buddy bud is feelin’ bettew. Dat ham twick sounds purretty yummy. 🙂

Great post. Tubby doesn’t mind the vet except when he hurt his foot and they had to poke at it. He loves people. Hates the car ride. My other kitties don’t care for any of it.

Believe it or not, I really like our Vet, she is a nice lady and a cat only Vet. I have fun when I go there and I get to meet all kinds of kitties. Now, if we could eliminate that car ride thing!

Dezi we’ve been at the Vets so often that Mom thought we were moving in. Mom says when she adopted Annabelle this past December she didn’t realize it was gonna end up costing her another $300 to get her all vetted. But she had lost Abby and felt very strongly that a new cat should be totally vetted before being introduced to all of us, and she wanted all the blood tests run as a base line. So now we know Annabelle is totally healthy.
